The sliced strip steak was perfectly done on a chimichurri base. The small lamb chops were also perfect. Other dishes were equally outstanding. After we paid and called for the car to be brought (handy valet parking!), my wife was complimenting the server for her great work. My wife for mentioned it was my birthday and the service made it special. Little did we know. The server said "wait here", disappeared for a couple of minutes, and returned with two small desserts. What truly made the evening memorable was the service. After we had paid and called for our car (the valet parking is a great convenience), my wife mentioned to our server that it was my birthday and complimented her on the wonderful service. To our surprise, she returned a few minutes later with two complimentary desserts beautifully presented on a "Happy Birthday" plate. After a poor experience at The Capital Grille on Christmas Eve, we decided to give it another try for Easter brunch. This went considerably better and our server, Kevin, was excellent and attentive without being annoying. He received a generous tip. The presentation of the food from the seared tuna to the filet mignon and lobster frittata were all excellent and well worth the trip. Our salads were uniformly, fresh and delicious! What a night we had sitting at the bar. Service was over the top. Bartender was sharp, witty and also great at making suggestions. Had the jumbo lump crab cocktail. Comes with house made cocktail sauce with fresh shaved horseradish on top to mix in and then a spicy mustard sauce as well. I just love the crab meat with no sauce. Such a delightful flavor. Next had a soup and salad deal with New England clam chowder along with a Ceasar salad. Very large portions on the soup and salad. Should have just ordered one because they were both so large. My wife and I went here for Mother's Day dinner before going to the Bushnell theater. The food and service were both excellent. I loved my filet mignon medallions and my wife loved her seared scallops. The cocktails were very interesting as well. We both appreciated the cozy interior and ample parking. Other than the staff providing a dessert to recognize a special occasion, I have basically nothing positive to say about our experience. And this is our third less than positive experience here. The beets in the beet salad were sparse but also spongy and tasteless. And covered up by so much arugula that wasn't even mentioned on the menu that they almost couldn't be found. The scallops in the entree were thin and not substantial at all-so disappointing especially in light of the cost of the dish. The asparagus risotto in that dish was also disappointing as it was undercooked, soupy and included so many other ingredients it was distracting. The people in the booth behind us were so loud we couldn't hear each other speak. And multiple staff members were engaging with this table and making it worse for the entire time. I don't know why there is even a dress code statement on the website as we witnessed so many complete and accepted violations of it. If you're looking for an elevated experience that even comes close to being worth the expense, this is NOT it. read more

This is my third time coming to capital grille and I have heard great things and everyone loves coming here . And even the UCONN huskies have a tradition to dine here as well ! The ambiance is pleasant and quiet, dim romantic lighting perfect for a date night . And the staff is amazing every time, they are always very attentive and pleasant . However every time I have came I've never been blown away or excited by the food . The house bread they offer a few different options which is nice but they don't taste fresh and is served with just basic butter. The house salad is okay, ingredients were fresh however it was served with Parmesan vinaigrette but I couldn't really taste the parmesan . For the entree, I got the filet mignon with a side of mashed potatoes and creamed spinach. The mashed potatoes were absolutely amazing ... LoVEd the soft creamy potatos ( my favourite ) , however the creamed spinach was terrible ( definitely would not recommend) The filet ( I prefer my steak more cooked) so I asked for medium however it was served rare ( basically raw ) .. and when they tried to fix it. .. it was still under cooked medium rare at best .. so that was a little upsetting . But if you like to ur steak rare or medium rare this is the place for you :) I also got the try the chicken risotto entree and that was amazing the risotto was cooked perfectly and so flavourful , the chicken was moist flavourful as well . I had a late lunch/early dinner at Capital Grille with my executive assistants on a chilly February evening. We were able to valet with no qualms and got seated right away. We've been to Capital Grille several times but it was usually for an event, and not a regular dinner. This was during my Daniel fast so I was very limited on what I could eat. The waitress was able to talk to the chef and they made me a vegan inspired medley. There was tofu, veggies and brown rice. Not only was an exception made for me, but it also tasted really good. We came here for lunch today. The food was good, our server was charming, but one thing left me perplexed: they brought a basket of bread to our table, and a plate with a large square of butter. The butter was hard as a rock, and we were not given bread plates. This location is one of the bigger ones I've been to and it was beautiful. The food was great. I came with a large group and we all ordered apps, entrees and the dessert was on the house! We had shrimp cocktail, French onion soup, crab cakes and crab lump cocktail for starters. For entree, we did the lamb chops, Chilean sea bass, salmon, and scallops with lobster risotto. This has always been one of my favorite restaurants, which made yesterday's experience even more disappointing. I took my sister there to celebrate Mother's Day and Nurse Week, and unfortunately the food was not good at all. Everything we ordered was extremely bland and lacked flavor. So first, let me just say our waitress anastina was amazing. She started our dinner off with a cute presentation of dirty martinis which were so yum! Now let's discuss the actual restaurant. We sat in the bar area which had an ok ambiance, I felt the music was lower than the dinning area which for a bar space was strange. We also ordered steaks and the sea bass, again ..just good. I personally didn't try the steak but my family said they enjoyed it. My sea bass was clearly fresh but some of the asparagus pieces were over cooked and it was supposed to be paired with shiitake mushrooms but there was only one on the plate which I thought was odd. I was surprised that the entrees were placed on our table before the "sharable dishes" too. When it comes to a pricier restaurant I really do notice details and feel like my dining experience should be above average in comparison to others. Ohh our first Capital Grille experience was nothing short of amazing. The food was delightful and solid. The steak was perfect. The only critiques IMO: the calamari could've used some sort of dipping sauce and the lobster tail seemed slightly overcooked but still tasty. It is quite pricey as well. But the cocktails were fabulous! Very balanced or spirit forward just how I like them. Where the 5 star experience stands out is the service and atmosphere m. This place is huge and therefore tables are well spaced. Our server, Jordan, made this birthday experience for my husband such a fun and memorable night. Everything was so amazing, I don't even know where to begin... convenient valet, the hostess greeted us and we were sat at a lovely booth in the back. We had literally the most phenomenal waitress ever Liz. She made the dining experience so memorable for all of us from start to finish. I couldn't taste any alcohol; I'm not sure if that was a good or bad thing. For my entrée, I got a New York strip with blue cheese butter, creamed spinach, and mashed potatoes. The sides were great. My steak was overcooked making it very hard to chew. My friends enjoyed their meals. One had a T-bone steak and the other a filet mignon. I also enjoyed the dessert, but it was just regular. In conclusion I won't be knocking anyone down to get back to this restaurant. P.S. The valet sucked. It was raining cats and dogs. What a fantastic evening we had on Saturday night. Our server Mo was so great and quite attentive. Right when you walk in there's a level of class here you don't find anymore. Waiters have on jackets. Patrons were dressed nice - which unfortunately you don't see too much anymore. They have wine lockers right by the door and they explained the whole process to us. I ordered a cup of the lobster bisque which Mo told me wasn't on the menu but is amazing. Had chunks of lobster on top. He offered fresh pepper to put on top which was nice. I'm not a steak person and sick of salmon and didn't want sea bass nor do I like ahi tuna so I asked if there were any specials and he said "we have a South African lobster tail" so I got that. Never had a South African lobster tail. If you aren't a steak person you don't have that many options but there are a few. I knew going in they don't provide sides at this restaurant for I've been to the bar and looked at the menu before so my entree was the lobster tail and that's it. Had a wedge of lemon and butter to dip but don't expect sides with your meal. The lobster tail was large so I definitely had enough food. I wanted to try the Au Gratin potatoes for a side. A bit too cheesy/rich for me but pretty nice flavor. After dinner Mo gave us warm towels and squeezed fresh lemon on them. That was SO NICE. Also brought us complimentary dessert and the cheesecake with the crystallized topping was unreal. Also flourless chocolate cake. A bit dry but was complimentary so can't complain. They also stamped their logo in chocolate which was so cool. After dinner we went to the bar and had a couple glasses of Robert Hall Merlot which I made a note of in my phone it was so good. From the moment we walked in, we were greeted with smiles, and just the walk to our table - through the elegant, warm atmosphere - felt like stress therapy. Classy without being stuffy. Nice classy restaurant with amazing food. My coworkers and I came here just to order some appetizers and I was blown away. We ordered their cheesecake, lobster Mac and cheese, oysters, and crab cakes. Everything was delicious! I was impressed by the cheesecake and loved how it was made to look like crème brûlée. Also their bread baskets was pretty good as well, I like how they give you a variety of breads in the basket. The restaurant has a great ambiance and the employees were fast, friendly, and attentive.
