What a wild night we had on Friday last! American Flatbread was the perfect place to spend a summer evening with friends in downtown Burlington. The weather was perfect and the vibes at American Flatbread were the cherry on top. Our quartet ordered two large flatbreads: the meat special (BBQ pulled pork with red onions & jalapeños) and the Revolution (caramelized onions & mushrooms with a red sauce). These paired perfectly with the Citizen Ciders & the house brews we ordered. The Revolution is my personal favorite, but it was a real treat getting one fresh from their oven (their precooked & frozen ones are good, but nothing beats freshly made flatbread). My roommate, who had never been to Vermont before, was a fan of their meat special as she has a love for jalapeños that is unmatched. We all commented on just how incredible the flatbread itself (minus the toppings) is and how we'd all gladly eat just the flatbread. It's a real testament to American Flatbread--any pizza or flatbread place, really--when you walk away loving the crust as much as the whole dish itself. The magic begins with the gluten structure as well as the texture & flavor. The crust should, in my opinion, be just as good paired with toppings as it is on its own. So much flavor, so many pictures taken, laughs shared with friends, and we all left with a nice little buzz. I was very impressed with the outdoor seating they had set up in front of & next to the restaurant itself. The tables were well spaced out, our server made us feel right at home, and the hum of conversations filled the air with a feeling that I did not think I would see again for a long time; akin to the sun coming out after the storm that was covid. Unbelievable experience with unique pizza combinations and delicious, local beers from Zero Gravity. It was a delight to enjoy my dinner in this chic and dim restaurant with the mild noise from other parties. Hands down, my favorite part of this meal was that I was able to order one half of two different pizzas I wanted! I had a small pizza, half veggie special and half of the Medicine Wheel (basically a plain cheese pizza). The small size is perfect for two people; I stuffed myself and still had a bit of leftovers by myself. The veggie special was very autumn-esque (butternut squash puree, red onions, arugula, ricotta, and a cranberry balsamic glaze) and was absolutely phenomenal. The amount of toppings were proportional, and there was great texture with each bite so it didn't feel like I was eating a giant mush of soft foods. The Medicine Wheel had more herbs than I expected which really stepped up what would have been a plain cheese pizza. If you're a sauce-lover, you will finish this pizza in maybe three seconds; the sauce is sweet and plenty and wonderful. I have dreamed about going back to this restaurant, and I really hope I am in Burlington (or Vermont!) again to do so. read more

Yummy dinner at American flatbread! I was lucky enough to stop in during restaurant week as well. I had the special which was a salad, eggplant meatballs in a super spicy/tangy sauce and followed it up with their Vermont sausage pizza that was just absolutely great. Dinner was some kind of Italian pudding or something I forget the name of but it was really tasty! I loved this place, the pizza ovens were awesome and it was intimate and yet large enough for a good amount of people. The pizzas were cooked perfectly with a great toasty bottom and just the right amount of toppings and sauce. Staff were very friendly and helpful and we got all our food quickly and without any issues. I've eaten here a couple times this month - both times, it was so good. Each time, I shared a salad and a pizza. The salads are full of all the great, delicious things, and well dressed. The pizzas are SO good. Last night, we had great service, and the restaurant is super-cute and welcoming. My son enjoyed going to look at where they make the beer, and listening to the live music. I had a wonderful Friday lunch here. I was encouraged to go by the many reviews on here and AF didn't disappoint. I went on a very chilly day and immediately enjoyed the cozy vibe. They have a fireplace and it was the perfect ambiance to warm you up on a cold winters day. I sat at the bar and Peter working the bar was great and gave me great suggestions. There's so many wonderful things to choose from but the special was very unique. I am not into beer but if you are, you will appreciate lots of beers on tap. I suggest eating it HOT right out of the box when you pick it up, because when we got home (10 min drive), it was room temperature (still tasty!) I'm giving 4 stars only because of the salad- it was okay but underwhelming. The mixed greens were very large and not chopped at all, filling up the entire container with a small amount of carrot shavings and a sprinkle of the seaweed and seeds on top. It felt like buying a mixed greens container from the supermarket and eating it out of the box. Don't get me wrong- I still enjoyed this salad. I want to preface this review by stating that I had come several years ago, on the basis of the many excellent reviews this establishment had. Unfortunately, the food was a major let down at that particular time. The flatbread tasted overly burnt and dry. Overall, I was disappointed. Despite this encounter, I thought that may've been an isolated event and decided to give American Flatbread another try! I'm writing this review based on my most recent visit. Let's begin with the food. You'll have several options to choose from, and we opted for the half and half, large size. I believe this is a good option for those wanting to try out the different types of flatbreads. We ended up getting 1/2 Revolution and 1/2 New Vermont Sausage. I must say, the flatbread was tasty and crisp, the toppings were fresh. Word of advice, unless you really feel the need to order soup or salad, I would skip these. They're okay, nothing special. The real reason why you come here is for the flatbread, and this time, it was wonderful. The beer (I had the Little Wolf) along with flatbread made this an excellent pairing. Service was prompt and accurate. They refilled our waters in a timely manner and routinely checked in to see if everything was on point. We came on a Friday night, so there was an expectation for there to be a wait. We were quoted a wait time of possibly 30 minutes, we were actually seated in roughly 15 minutes for two people. Lastly, the ambiance suits this type of restaurant. There's a bar right at the entrance serving local brews from Zero Gravity. Inside, there's plenty of seating for dining. Overall, I'd probably pay a visit back when I'm in town again. The flatbread along with some refreshing beer make for a chill night after a day of snowboarding. read more

American Flatbread is phenomenal. My fiance and I came here twice during a 4-night trip to Burlington, once for lunch and once for dinner. Walking into the restaurant, there's a sign saying to stay off your phone, which is a nice reminder to enjoy the company you're with, and stay off your phone (more challenging than I'd like to admit). When we came for lunch, we were seated immediately, which is apparently a rarity (more to come on that!). The draught beers constantly rotate, and the cool thing about American Flatbread is that you can get small glasses to sample a few (like tasting size glasses) and not commit to one 12 oz pour. That makes it a lot of fun to keep rotating through that beer list. For the life of me, I cannot remember what beers we ordered, but they were absolutely delicious (we ordered 2 rounds during lunch). The inside of the restaurant is open to view the making of all pizzas, as well as the wood burning stove, which is really cool, to sit and just anticipate your pizza being cooked. We ordered two small pizzas (not to share - pizza is NOT a sharing food). I ordered the Roasted Tomato Salsa pizza, which comes with roasted tomatoes, garlic, black beans, jalapenos, organic corn, and cilantro. Oh my god, it was phenomenal, and left me so thankful that our hotel had a fridge, because while I do not share pizza, I couldn't finish the entire small by myself (also, I do think I gave the fiance a slice, so I'm not a total pizza Grinch). My fiance ordered the "Power to the People," which is a buffalo chicken pizza with buffalo sauce/blue cheese, and he was thrilled (he can't share pizza, as I do not eat meat, so he kind of wins all around). The slices themselves are cut unevenly, which is also a unique feature. On Saturday night, we were starving at 5 PM and figured we'd head over the Flatbread again for more pizza and beers. Our thought was, "It's 5 PM, who eats that early on a Saturday night?" The answer is, everyone, because we did have to wait for a table for two. It was absolutely insane how packed this place was so early on a weekend, and it just got busier (when we ended up leaving, the wait time was at 2+ hours). This time around, we switched up our orders again, with fiance ordered the Pepperoni & Peppers, and me ordering the Medicine Wheels. Again, we were thrilled with our orders and again, tried small glasses of different beers from our first visit. Service this time was nothing to complain about, but nothing to rave about either, but the food is so good that we didn't even mind. All in all, this place is absolutely awesome, Delicious food, awesome drinks, and a place that reminds you to drop the phone and enjoy the people you're there with, which is a refreshing change of pace. read more

parking around here is by better on the street, we did not find any private parking and that was fine cause we found parking fairly quickly. this place has an outside sitting area where they have some live music but the inside is super pretty and spacious. the decor is rustic and the staff pretty friendly, however the server was a bit slow to come and take our drink orders as well as to check on us after the first round was served. MEAD- I ordered a mead that they have cause finding a honey mead being served in a restaurant is pretty rare, but I was not super pleased with their mead, it was super sour not at all what I am used to as far as mead. VEGETABLE SOUP- it was an ok soup cup but not impressive, they only serve a soup of the day so there are not that many options to choose from. MEDICINE WHEEL/PUNCTUATED EQUILIBRIUM - our pizza was half and half. we were pretty pleased with both, we got the larger pizza and it was more than enough for 2 ppl. if you are not super eater do not go for the large pizza unless you are a sort of body builder. size of the pizza is pretty large. the overall for me was good. the pizza was tasty and the atmosphere was pleasing. worth to visit this pizzeria. read more

We loved our Friday lunch at American Flatbread! It was a warm(er) December Friday and we wanted to eat outside rather than just do takeout. We were the only people there for the majority of our meal. The team turned on one of the outdoor fire pits and also brought and standing Hester near us. The fire pit provided a lot of warmth even with a few cool breezes. We ordered the Punctuated Equilibrium and the Revolution - but added jalapeños. Punctuated Equilibrium was divine - the perfect combination of flavors. We added jalapeños to the Revolution and felt like that addition really made the flatbread. Wow! What a great find!!! Thank you fellow Yelpers! We came looking for another restaurant but opted for here instead. So glad we did! Great ambiance. When you walk in, the lighting is dim and looks like the bar is a popular and a cool spot to be. There is an amazing giant butterfly painting on the back wall. Truly mesmerizing! The same artist also painted the mural outside on the side of their brick building. We were thankful, so thankful, we beat the rush. A few minutes after we were seated, there was a 45min-1 hour wait. Luckily we just beat the rush and got seated immediately with a great view of their amazing wood fire pizza oven. Ordered the Medicine Wheel and the veggie special that day was Veggie chili and continued to watch in amazement as pizzas were hand thrown thin and made to order. Both our pizzas were fantastic! Very simple, but so full of flavor! Even the chili which sounded like it would be a huge mess...was actually very well crafted and very tasty. The beer selection is vast and I'm sure amazing. We only tried the English Summer (I think that's the name). So good!!! Also had the Paper Plane cocktail...just what I needed. The only let down was the salad they had on special. It was a basic salad with strawberry balsamic dressing which sounded really good but was not. The only stand out was the goat cheese. I should have built my own and chose a different dressing. Next time. And yes, there WILL be a next time. This place was so good I actually bought tshirts and caps (yes, plural) as a reminder that I'm not too far from heaven. Ok, and let's not forget the staff. Management doesn't seem to forget because there are sentimental reminders in several places. There's a sign in the open kitchen, on their menu, I think it's even on their storefront. Hostess was very nice. Our waitress gave us fantastic suggestions (except the salad). Food arrived promptly. I just remembered that they have the cutest wooden toy pizza sets that they let families with children play with to keep them busy. Myself and my boyfriend went for a dinner. We are new to town visiting for holidays. The reception lady took us to a desk and we noticed nobody cared to light the candle. I gave them the benefit of doubt that they forgot considering every other desk had a candle lit and not being we are Indians. But nobody cared. I wouldn't visit again. Learn your manners folks. This is not cool. As for food we had half n half cheese and herb and equilibrium and it was okay. Just couldn't taste the goat cheese. I love goat cheese but it just didn't click on this one.
