Flew into the Lompoc Airport to try this restaurant. It was totally worth it! It's about a 7 min Uber trip as it's on the other side of town. I got the Chicken Fried Steak which is as good as it gets. The fresh "hot out of the oven" biscuits were awesome. My son got a burger and it was huge. Lean, high quality beef. He loved it and said the fries were hot and crispy. The coffee was excellent! We were in the Lompoc area during the holidays and looking for a Breakfast place to eat. My Girlfriend found American Host Restaurant on Yelp and decided to go and try them. Just a heads up guys, the restaurant has parking outside. They have parking in the back, but depending on the time of day, it could be a challenge in my opinion. There is also street parking outside as well. When we arrived, we were welcomed and waited for a bit to be seated. The host brought us over to our booth and handed us our menu. Our food arrived and it looked like it was prepared fresh and the portions were very generous in my opinion. The American Host Breakfast was good and I was satisfied with everything on the dish. My favorite was the Ham Steak; had flavor and nicely cooked. The only thing I noticed was the Blueberry Pancakes. I thought it might come with Blueberry Compote, to give it an extra flavor. Yes, the blueberries were in inside the pancakes, so it was ok. The gravy with the biscuits were good; rich and creamy. What I really noticed and stood out was the small US Flags on the dishes. I thought that was very cool and patriotic in my opinion. Our overall experience was good and we enjoyed our Breakfast. In my personal opinion, I would recommend American Host Restaurant, if you are in the Lompoc area or close by. Food: 4.25. Came by on a Thursday because a person mentioned their Thursday meatloaf special. I was greeted promptly when entering. Unless I'm mistaken, there is only indoor seating. Inside is comfortable. This is not a fancy place. I ordered the Thursday meatloaf special ($14.99) which comes with mashed potatoes and gravy, green beans and carrots, and a biscuit. Food was delivered timely and at the right temperature. Meatloaf portion was generous. I normally eat meatloaf with ketchup but this version with gravy was very good comfort food. Service was efficient but not necessarily friendly. Downside for this place is that they close early (1:30 pm weekdays, 2 pm on weekends). I want to come back to try some of their other menu items. Oh man what a great find today!! My wife and I travel to Lompoc/Buellton/Solvang area maybe 5-6 times a year. We typically go to another diner in Buellton only because we had never found this place. And trust me when I say American Host Restaurant did not disappoint. The staff greeted us upon arrival and our names on the list for breakfast. It was about 10-15 minutes before we were seated. According to our waitress Mackenzie they get really busy there, so be prepared to wait especially in the summer months she said. Mackenzie was so gracious and even had time chat us up for a bit. [[HIGHLIGHT]]It gets loud in here because of the crowds inside and out so don't expect a quiet service.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] But it's worth the wait and the noise lol. The food was good and made to order. My wife's scramble was fresh and filling it's 930pm now just now had dinner because we were still full from breakfast I'm not even kidding. We didn't have lunch lol. This spot was chosen recently by coworkers for a lunch out of the office. It was the perfect venue! The service was quick and our food came out promptly. They do have parking right in front, though the day we went they had just gotten re-paved, so I have no idea if it can be challenging to find a spot. I opted for the California Chicken Breast Sandwich, which was delicious! It's a lot of food, though, so I took the rest of mine to go. Our server easily split our meals up into different checks. OMG!!! Finally a real restaurant in Lompoc!!! I've been working in this city since 2015 and always felt held hostage to either eat at a fast food place or buy my own stuff from the supermarket - NOT TO MENTION there's never been a place I felt comfortable taking guests to. Well, that just ended today! I had probably the best omelet in my life. Service was outstanding too (thanks Makenzie!). Just check out the picture of my "garbage pale omelet with double hash browns extra crispy"!!! I asked for double hb because as a substitute for bread. It was a $2 upcharge... Food was f'ing perfect!!! I mean PERFECT!! With coffee, tip, and taxes the bill came to a few cents under $30 which for me feels about $5 high in comparison to my "other" favorite breakfast restaurant, but whatever - American Host must know there is zero competition in town. I might not pay that in a bigger city with true competition, but literally, there's no where else to get a descent meal in this entire town. Just goes to show you there still are intelligent, "customer first" orientated restaurants, management, and owners out there. Thank you American Host for a great experience. PLEASE DON'T CHANGE!!! They daylight was peeking in around 6 am. today. Still no sleep for me. Why, you ask?????? Thoughts of fresh hash and potatoes, biscuits with a creamy sausage gravy, and piping hot coffee consumed my brain. Luckily for me, the American Host restaurant opens at 7 am. I ordered a small breakfast plate. As you can see by the photo, it's large enough for two people. The eggs were fluffy. Chopped sausage and cheese were mingled with the eggs. Let's not forget the biscuits with sausage gravy. The gravy was thick, creamy, and had the right amount of pepper. Hashbrowns were crispy on the outside and steamy inside. I don't want to go leave without tasting everything! As I sip my coffee, I begin to think what a lucky girl I am. Many options, great service, clean, and close to home. Treat yourself. A group of girls were refused service today by an employee named Sugar. She came at them with verbal abused and told them they were funny if they thought they were going to eat there. This employee refused service because of her personal problems with her sibling. One of the girls was her sibling and because of her personal problems with her sister these girls were treated like crap by this employee and the manager apparently allowed this behavior. I wasn't aware that servers decide who can eat there and who can't. read more

American Host has been a Lompoc (yes, it's pronounced "Laam-poke") institution over the past 40 years...hence why it's filled with all Lompoc locals. Everyone knows everybody. While my partner and I were some of the "outsiders," we got chatting during the wait with a sweet older couple who told us that the large sign that says "Hi! Let's Eat!" was salvaged from Hi's restaurant (open until the late 1950's) on the corner of Oceano Avenue and E Street where there's a Starbucks now. Happy to see that American Host has taken the honor to maintain the sign. While American Host is nothing particularly fancy, and remains similar to any diner, the friendly people and large portions are what make it what it is. It's tough to miss but their theme is All American with US flags everrrrrrywhere--even on the benches outfront and on a toothpick with certain breakfast items. They truly offer everything under the sun for traditional American breakfast and lunch cuisines. If you come on the weekend, expect a wait. We enjoyed the classic Pork Chop Breakfast and the "Light Breakfast" (basically an Egg [Mc]Muffin). We loved that the meat is good quality and the eggs were cooked to perfection (scrambled while still fluffy). The coffee keeps coming and the staff remains efficient and friendly. The owner's daughter, Renee, is often the "Hostess with the Mostest" carrying a conversation with everyone who walks in the door. As their motto says: "It's Always Good!"
