We had our kitchen remodel done in July 2023, sometime in January 2024 (6 months after the job completion) our quartz countertop developed a crack on the corner. I pinged Kyle and Abel right away regarding warranty from the countertop manufacturer. I was only sent a single reply that they will forward to the manufacturer and radio silence since. I have emailed and texted several times with no response. I now realize I'm on my own in a 6 month old kitchen with a cracked countertop with no help from the company who installed it, nor will they help me go to bat with the manufacturer of where they got the countertop. They provided me with no details of where the countertop came from, so I can not research warranty on my own. At first, I was happy with how quickly they finished the kitchen, but just know that there will be zero after support (which I now realize after reading more reviews) Kyle comes across as a smooth talking used car salesman, and I fell for it. read more

Lowering the review since we were left on our own after less than one year of finishing the project and we are finding cracks on cabinets and cracks on grouts. It looks like some of the cabinets installed were not the manufactured cabinets that we initially paid for. We made multiple attempts to contact them but received no call back. Their warranty seems limited to after work is done, your on your own. The workmanship warranty they talk about is completely false. I even called their office directly but receptionist was, what's the word, spaced out if that's even the right word. I called her about 3 times and it was the same experience all the time. She was not interested in my message and I wasn't even sure if she was writing my information down since she asked multiple times for my name and phone number. Like I said, spaced out or zoned out. After multiple attempts, I decided to watch YouTube and took care some of the issues myself. It's okay to have issues later on and I don't expect them to be responsible after a few years but not within the first year after installation. read more

My review is an average of two services that I deem extremely important when providing services. Quality of workmanship and time to complete= 4 stars. The quality and craftsmanship are great. Our remodel was completely custom and the team was outstanding in helping us realize our vision. Although there were several choices from floor, backsplash, etc., they are somewhat limited based on the target completion date and the extent of customization. Costing process= 5 stars. What's in the contract won't change. It's all inclusive which makes the process way less stressful. Warranty/repair follow-up= 1 star. The remodel comes with a warranty but good luck trying to get repairs done. I made several calls and emails and the customer service is HORRENDOUS. You're pretty much forgotten and in your own once the job is done. read more

I would highly recommend American Kitchen company.  They did great work and delivered the project on budget and was eager to finish on schedule. The crew installed custom doors and windows; renovated our entire kitchen; stopped our wood floors from squeaking and fixed random electrical issues. Point is, they handled everything without any major issues. The crew also cared a lot about the quality of work, even correcting a variety of issues which were not there responsibility without hesitation or charge.    In addition to the quality of work, Kyle and Abel were above and beyond attentive. First and foremost, I would highly recommend AKC without hesitation or reservation for anyone looking to remodel their kitchen (we already have a friend who hired them on our recommendation). Their dedication to doing things right is beyond what I expected or could ask for from a contractor. Did the project go a few weeks past the "projected" date? Yes... but a significant amount of that was due to circumstances out of their control, or because they were willing to re-work aspects of the work that did not initially meet our expectations. For example, they ran into electrical issues in our ceiling that were not originally scoped as a part of the project. Rather than asking for a change order, or making things difficult, they simply took care of what needed to be done. When the tiler made a major mistake, Able immediately acknowledged the issue, dealt with the tiler and sent someone to remove the work that was done and had it done correctly, again adding at least 2 days of work to the job. The lead on the project also had a family emergency and had to leave in the middle of the remodel, this through things for a loop with scheduling (which again was out of their control), this also made communication a bit difficult because we no longer had a day to day point of contact. But after sharing our concerns about continuity and communication Kyle and Able made things right. Everyone who came to work on the kitchen did their best to respect our home and keep the house as clean and dust-free as possible. This made living through the renovation much easier than we imagined. Sam, the designer, was also great to work with at the beginning of the project. I am very particular, and knew exactly what I wanted and just needed someone to execute my vision and she let me do that, and helped with the ins and outs of layout, cabinet spacing and sizing that I wasn't entirely certain on. Kyle is super personable and will call you back immediately when you reach out to him, he is very dedicated to the business and his clients. Able has a acute attention to detail that rivals mine, which earned my trust very quickly. So even though the process wasn't as perfect as it could be, the end result is. I hired AKC to basically remodel my entire house but they have fallen short in completing the task. They initially started with remodeling my dining room, living room and two bathrooms (also to paint interior of my house). They did not start the work on the kitchen. I initially paid them $30k to start and finish the work in my dining room, living room and two bathrooms, and paint interior. The work was started in the beginning of April and has not been completed despite their initial promise that my bathrooms would be done by the time I moved into my house (mid-May). It is now July and I'm still living out of boxes in my bedroom b/c they have not completed the work there. My bathroom is incomplete with no vanity installed. There are water stains on my baseboards from a leak that has gone unaddressed. The quality overall is bad. I have made repeated requests of my contractor Jason to finish the work I already paid him to do and he's been giving me the run around. I also spoke to Kyle about all this and sent him a clear and detailed email re the issues and I have not heard back. Bottom line, I am on the verge of seeking a legal remedy for their lack of professionalism and incomplete & unsatisfactory work, not to mention creating an unsafe living environment for my 5 year old son and I. We had some significant water damage, mainly in our kitchen but in other parts of the house as well. Instead of simply making repairs, we decided to make an investment in the house by rebuilding the kitchen and touching up some other areas. I looked on Yelp and found two local contractors, one of which was AKC, and had them provide independent estimates based on design and aesthetic concepts my husband and I came up with. Kyle & Abel came to the house, listened to what we wanted, and made suggestions on how we could achieve our goals. They estimate was the higher of the two, but we chose him because we felt really comfortable with him and the work they have done. During our consultation, he demonstrated expertise and didn't try to sell us on something we didn't want or need. Kyle knew we wanted to get this done quickly, and told us he would need 3-4 weeks from start to finish. Keep in mind this was a full kitchen renovation (new floor, new cabinets, new counter tops, new layout for plumbing and electrical). Everyone we talked to said there's no way they could make good on that promise, but his crew worked their asses off and finished before the end of the fourth week. The results are awesome. We have a beautiful new kitchen that was completed within the budget we agreed on, and will certainly add value to our home. All of our water damage in other areas of the house were repaired, and even replaced/rebuilt all of our banisters and railings to bring them up to code and give us a fresh new look. If you're looking for a remodel, AKC and his crew will not disappoint. They definitely exceeded our expectations. One bit of advice, though. Contractor payment schedules have a customer paying at a lot of milestones along the way. While paying smaller amounts as you go may make you feel comfortable, I suggest paying larger amounts up front, and making fewer payments along the way. In most cases, your money is being used specifically for your project. If you're slow to pay at the milestones, your project will move slowly as well. We paid AKC 50% up front, then 40% about half way through, then the final 10% upon completion. This definitely contributed to getting us back in the house quickly. As a renovation customer, this was our second home in doing a major renovation. I have prior experience with a contractor whose workers were subpar and I had to live with their errors in our last home and didn't want them to come back.  When we set out to do another major reno in our Lafayette home, finish work and timeline was extremely important to me. This is where AKC comes in and provided skilled tradesmen, beautiful finished work and a true guarantee of the work provided.   Juan & Alonzo were the leading tradesmen on our job. Their skills and knowledge continued to impress me. As a team they worked diligently on all new electrical throughout our home, ran our gas line, moved walls, rebuilt a new load bearing wall, completed two full bathroom remodels, redid our kitchen humbly with the highest knowledge and skillset and blew me away.  AKC also was responsible for tiling multiple floors, fireplaces, retexturing walls, permit acquisition and sign off, lighting in multiple rooms, you name it, they did it in our home. I think a big factor to consider when choosing a contractor to do business with is the transparency of price. Never once were we asked for more money. Did we as clients add on items ? Yes and that came with a fee, naturally. Yes a plumbing leak under the home was discovered and cost more but that is representative of normal unknowns. However the contract we signed and committed to was our true price. They never said "oh by the way the electrical took longer so we need to charge more." I Respect how thorough their bid was.  Now that I think of it the guys also installed all of the new LVP flooring in our entire house, new baseboards throughout, new trim etc. I really enjoyed Juan & Alonzo and so did our family. My kids loved to look for them, ask questions and the guys were very kid friendly. Normal issues and stress were present running out of materials here or there, some miscommunication etc but that happens. The important thing to consider is an accurate bid, a realistic timeline and the guarantee of work. We did have a few things that needed some adjusting after the job was completed and AKC got us on the schedule asap to make it right. I just completed a full kitchen renovation with American Kitchen Company and I was very impressed throughout the process. Our renovation was a complicated project, as it involved removing load bearing walls, adding support beams to the house's framing, and relocating a significant amount of plumbing and HVAC that services other areas of the house. My positive experiences with American Kitchen company was largely due to the people I worked with there. You will have a designer and a Forman assigned to your project. I highly recommend John as the designer and Andres as the Forman. They were a solid team that coordinated every step of the project and they have extensive experiences. The success of the project was highly dependent on them. John was in charge of helping us design the kitchen and then coordinating the various stages of construction with the Forman. He was very knowledgeable about everything and was helpful in recommending design features. We met with him often to discuss the project and he came out to our house several times to take measurements, meet with our architect, and check in on the progress of the construction. The crew were masters at their craft. We encountered a few unknown hurdles through the project, which we successfully navigated largely due to the Formans recommendations and expertise. The quality of this contractor's work exceeded our expectations and he was able to complete the project within the promised time frame of 6-8 weeks. We were concerned about dust and he built a temporary wall to contain the dust, which went above and beyond in my opinion. He cleaned up every day and left our house spotless. They completed the kitchen as close to perfection as you can get! American Kitchen company came recommended to me by a co-worker who had similar positive experiences with them. In terms of price, they weren't the cheapest but they were also not the most expensive. Their prices were competitive with other quotes we received. We chose them mostly on our comfort level with the people mentioned above, and we were glad we did. We did have a few very minor issues with the cabinets, which were damaged in shipment. They replaced them with no questions asked. Kitchen renovations will be one of the more stressful experiences you can have as a homeowner. All in all, our project wasn't stressful and proceeded as close to perfection as you can get. These positive experiences are what compelled me to write this review. We selected American Kitchen Company to do our kitchen and additional work for a few reasons. We were an insurance claim, so as I've learned it does change the speed of the job. As with other reviews I do have to say, they do operate like those contractors you hear about. They come a day, off a day, or work a few, then don't show for a few, but They have a lot going on, I would guess growing pains. However with that said they ALWAYS came when they said and always let us know when they would not be out. So we just resigned ourselves to flow with the process, and not stress to much over it. They were very easy to work with while things were moving forward. They heard any concerns and did take care of. Between Daniel and Sam they worked out the kinks and made a real nice design for us. I seriously suggest not rushing through the design process, and really have a concept of what you want when meeting. Also know the choices of counter tops and edges if that is real important to you. They use pre fab counters. If you really want custom counters like picking your own slab and have it fabricated discus that first!!! Stone Seems can be very important or specialty edges. Once we worked through the details and the work had been finished we LOVE our kitchen. Just remember in construction things don't always flow the way you expect, so just relax with the process, know and understand that up front. You will be happy in the end.!! They guarantee it!! The Company really did work with us to make it all come together. We never did meet the actual contractor, but can not give Elias enough credit for seeing our job through, and he really helped exceed our expectations!! The cabinet quality is awesome, The soft close and Lazy Susan's are wonderful. We met one of the owners, Kyle, who was very personable and was always very positive. We have had an excellent remodeling experience with American Kitchen Company. The work included a completely new kitchen, tearing back everything to the studs, a full bathroom remodel and the expansion and remodel of the bathroom for the master bath. In addition, AKC removed old paneling in the family room adjacent to the kitchen, replaced it with drywall and molding and added new canned lighting. All in all, it's a substantial amount of work in our 1960's ranch house. Before hiring AKC we had obtained bids from four other companies. One from a high-end remodeling company in the East Bay, a second with a full set of plans drawn up by a contractor (who was then unable to hire the help he needed to do the work), a second bid on those plans from another established remodeling contractor and finally a bid from a friend of a friend. AKC's bid was not the lowest we received but it was far and away the most benefit to the house for the money. If you haven't remodeled an old house before (1960 was actually 60 years ago!) it's hard to imagine all the things that might need upgrading. AKC handled everything that arose without delay and without additional charges. We began working with Alejandra as our designer. She was very helpful in providing 3D renderings that let us better see what was being done. In addition, she spent considerable time helping us with things like picking tile, backsplashes, sinks, fixtures and the like. It's an enormous amount of time consuming work and we've been delighted with her help. The most impressive way in which AKC is different from many contractors and service providers we've had in the past is that they actually show up when they say they will. The day before our job was to start I told my wife, "they're contractors. There's no way they'll be here tomorrow ready to work. We have lots of time to finish emptying the kitchen and moving the furniture." But instead, the next day at 8:00 am as promised, the entire crew arrived along with Kyle and Able, the two owners. Since we weren't ready, they all just pitched in and helped pack the kitchen. Pretty much every promised date after that was also on time. Our project supervisor was Elias. He and the other workers have been very pleasant which is important as we continued living in the house while they were doing the work. Since there are only two bathrooms, they agreed to remodel them one at a time so we could continue living in the house. That proved to be incredibly important. They started the work on January 6th and finished the kitchen and first bathroom on March 8th, which turned out to be two days before Contra Costa county shut everything down for the Corona Virus. So we had to postpone the master bath addition until the Summer. That work is now complete as well and is as nice as the kitchen and other bathroom. We had a fabulous kitchen remodel experience from March 2019 to mid May 2019 with American Kitchen company. We found them on Yelp and Daniel met with us before the project began to review the design we had created by another designer. They suggested some changes and discussed the general process. After this we felt comfortable signing a contract. The highlights of the remodel: 1- On day 1 we were provided with a rough schedule for the entire project (10 weeks). The project was completed on time and on budget. 2- They knew we were going to be gone for spring break so intentionally scheduled the smelly floor refinishing during that time. 3- We loved all the workers and felt like they did a great job. 4- Communication was excellent. Elias our Forman pretty much sent weekly texts regarding the work that was to be done. If we ever had questions/issues, Elias and Daniel were always very timely and incredibly responsive to us before, during and after the project. 5- The quality of the workmanship and materials of the cabinetry, flooring, countertops, and tiling was all excellent. 6 - Follow-up and customer service has been excellent, even after the remodel was complete and in many instance above and beyond. Three examples: 1- We originally had chosen a 3-bin garbage hardware that ended up causing misalignment of the garbage drawer with the other cabinets. Elias noticed this, determined it was not acceptable and built a new garbage drawer that is sturdier and aligns correctly. 2- We had an issue with some electrical outlets shorting 3 months after the project was complete. We contacted American Kitchen who immediately put us in touch with the electrician who fixed the problem the next day. (And the problem was not a workmanship issue.) 3- We were considering different pulls for our drawers after the remodel, sent an email to Daniel asking him about this and he responded with some ideas for different pulls that would fit better. Totally above and beyond what the email requested. We have no doubts, that if we ever have issues in the future, that we can work with them to have it resolved. 7 - All people working at our house were polite, timely and cleaned up after their day's work. 8- Elias stresses out about staying on schedule and making sure everything is done, so you don't have to! After the project was complete, we were trying to come up with something that went wrong or was a big issue and could not come up with anything. I am sharing my experience so you can make an informed decision if this company is reputable or not. Demo started 2 1/2 months after the scheduled start date. The renovation was scheduled to take 4-6 weeks but took 5 months. For 4 months, we did not have a working kitchen or bathroom and our house was a construction zone. It took 5 months because there were weeks when the crew did not show up and many times they only sent out 1 or 2 workers. Calls to the AKC office about the delays were never returned. There was no incentive on the part of AKC in completing the renovation since 95% of the contract was paid in the first 6 weeks The kitchen design by John had 3 major incorrect measurements that resulted in a loss of symmetry of the cabinets, cabinet height, cabinet widths and fronts. After demo day John washed his hands and said everything had to go through the foreman. The hand off from designer to the foreman created a number of problems. The foreman did not show up on demo day for the hand off as scheduled, and the crew at the time of the hand off did not communicate any of the requirements and changes to the foreman or other crew members. This resulted in a number of issues. John said the crew would not need any storage space. This was incorrect. Crew stored equipment, tools and supplies in the dining room, living room, guest bedroom, rear deck, front deck, garage, under the house and driveway. John indicated garbage would be picked up regularly and no less than weekly. Garbage was in the driveway for over 3 weeks at a time and I had to constantly remind the foreman to have a trash pickup. AKC even put trash in front of the neighbors house John indicated the crew would install a lock box to enter the house while we were away. In the first 5 weeks, the key passed around to each other and they subsequently lost it. The key was never found and we had to replace the front door lock and deadbolt with no reimbursement . A lock box was installed after 3 1/2 months. The shower tile was miscalculated and I had to buy another box. The Arizona Tile warehouse man warned me that tile comes in batches and if you get tile from a different lot the shade of color, size and thickness would be different. He was right. The foreman and most of the crew did not speak English and a crew member had to interpret. This provided some challenges for the changes that frequently occur during a renovation. It also showed up during the city inspections. The city inspector had to return 4 times to sign off on the final inspection. Only the bare minimum of the dining room and living room wood floors were protected early in the renovation even though there was equipment, tools and supplies placed on them, as well as crew walking on bare wooden floors. The fit and finish of the kitchen cabinetry and bathroom floor and shower tile work was just OK. Multiple people worked on the shower tile and the grout has multiple shades of white and one area is a sand color. Poor fit and finish around the bathroom shower inset and window. A one square inch of cabinetry has 4 exposed nail holes which I asked several times to fix and just gave up on. Screws (1") are sticking out of the bottom of cabinets. The under cabinet light over the island sometimes does not turn on due to a faulty connection. The electrical in the kitchen is a major problem. Every time we use an appliance and the refrigerator comes on, the circuit breaker shuts off. This happens 1 -2 times a day. The electrical to the kitchen was the last item completed and the foreman said to call him if there were any issues and they would correct them under their warranty program. Multiple calls and texts to the foreman but no response. The refrigerator was moved to the living room for the renovation. When we were out of town, AKC shut off the power to the living room resulting in throwing out most of the food. Did not get a call back from AKC on this problem or any reimbursement In the last three weeks of the job, crew members either got Covid-19 or needed to be quarantined. Wearing masks during the pandemic mostly did not happen. This last tissue is a major one. We returned the back splash tile because we had told John we had selected it but not to order it since we wanted to use the quartz slabs as back splash, which we eventually did. We paid for all the materials on day 1 of the demo including the back splash tile. The foreman said we would get the credit on our final invoice. We did not. I called the foreman and calls and emails to AKC were not returned. However, in less than 17 days after the invoice was due and no calls from AKC, they turned over the invoice to a collection agency.  Including an overcharge on the bathroom floor tile and the returned backsplash the amount due me is over $1,000. I have yet to receive a return call from Kyle.  However, there is one thing you can rely on is a passive aggressive response from him on Yelp. read more

I recently hired American kitchen company to do my kitchen remodel. I really liked the process of meeting with their design team, and coming up with a new layout of my kitchen to give it more functionality, and making it a lot more modern with all the beautiful materials they have available. Being able to see it all unfold during the process was amazing. Its not easy living through a remodel but Ricardo our foreman made it as smooth as possible for us, he made sure we had a temporary area set up with our fridge and table, etc over the 6 week process. Everyone in the office was also very helpful when ever i called with questions or concerns. My kitchen went from being very outdated where i didnt want to host any events, to always hosting the family parties and holidays. Thank you so much for my new kitchen! It's been about two years since we had our remodel done and I have since had two plumbers out to my home who said that the people who installed the plumbing had absolutely no idea what they were doing, cut corners, used incorrect parts, used incorrect tools, bent things so they had too much pressure build up and also put pipes in, in such a way that left them unserviceable. Today I had a plumber come in and re-do all the plumbing American Kitchen put in. He showed me all the things that were done wrong by American Kitchen's team and it was really shocking to me. Also, when jobs were not proceeding and workers failed to show up, instead of being apologetic, Kyle got a bit hostile and demanded payment for work that was supposed to be done but still was not. The whole job ran months over the original completion date. On a positive note, we were very happy with John Davis who helped us with design. read more

I called this morning and spoke to a gentleman and explained what we wanted done and he explained what he could do. He said he would have Alejandro call me back in 10 minutes. Over 2 hours later no one had called me so I called again and spoke to the same person. I asked for the address and he said he could explain what they do. I told him I talked to him earlier and that someone was suppose to call me back in 10 minutes. He said nothing. I told him I wanted to get this project done and he offered absolute NO help as far as someone calling me back or even apologizing for no one getting back to me. This is our first time doing remodeling, so the anxiety of finding the right contractor is high. You hear so many horror stories with contractors not following through with their job. We found AKC through Home Advisor app. Just be ware, you will get spammed by 10+ contractors and Kyle was one of them. We interviewed him and Abel along with 2 other companies, but we felt most comfortable with AKC because Kyle and Abel came to our house with the highest professionalism. Kyle is kind of awkward given he's an overweight Canadian, but we really enjoyed his sales pitch. He gave us an initial quote which was the highest out of all three, but AKC had the portfolio to back it up. He is very reasonable and will work with you. He was able to give us a discount. Kyle also employees all of his guys except for the flooring and shower glass guys, so you can trust that the guys will show up. You have to understand, once they demo your house, you are at the mercy of the contractor. It's worth it to pay a little more for reliability and quality. Job Overview: We remodeled the kitchen, master bathroom, master closet, and hardwood flooring for the first floor. Cost: $100k-$150k. We were on the upper end of that. You need to pay for your own hardware such as cabinet pulls, vanity faucets, towel bars, etc. Make sure you are clear on that with Kyle before signing your contract. Some contractors will cover hardware up to certain cost per hardware. Choices and flexibility: For cabinets, counter top, and shower glass, AKC uses a set vendor to speed up time and reduce cost. You can find your own custom cabinet choice but that will increase cost. For tile, they use Arizona Tile which has a great selection. You can pretty much pick anything you want. When you are deciding on pricing with Kyle and Abel, make sure you know what you want. If you want tiles all the way up to the ceiling, it may be extra cost. If you want cabinets all the way to the top and you have high ceiling, like us, it will cost more. Make you you establish that up front. Kyle is very reasonable on pricing. Communication: You will be given Kyle's cellphone, and you can literally reach him anytime of the day. Abel knows more about the daily and weekly workflow such as where each worker is assigned to, so you will be contacting him a lot. He's also very accessible. Kyle also uses a part-time interior designer who will provide you with guidance and pick out material. That's something not every contractor will offer. It was very helpful. You will also get to know some of the workers really well. They even gave me their cellphone numbers to work out the details. Timing: We started around mid Feb, and Kyle and Abel originally quoted us that they will finish on 05/08. They said "we always finish on time." Today is 07/06, we finally finished everything. So as you can tell, we are significantly late. I could knock off 1 or half a star, but I think given the scale of our job and the detail involved, missing the deadline is expected. There was someone there working almost everyday, so it's not like they were slacking off. We had a place to stay, so moving back isn't a huge deal. Also we wanted quality foremost over anything else. Quality: AKC prides themselves in quality. I can say the cabinets and tiles were done exceptionally well. Look at the kitchen pictures I posted. It's gorgeous. The tile work is nearly flawless. I'll let the pictures do the talking. Summary: AKC is a highly reliable and trustworthy contractor. Remodeling is such a stressful event for most families, peace of mind is very important. You know with Kyle and Abel, they will address your every issue, even at 10pm and Sunday mornings. They work extremely hard and never seem frustrated even when there are hiccups. read more
