Warning: DO NOT HIRE this company for any home improvement work. The owner, Gable Payne, presents himself as licensed and advertises as such. His CONTRACTOR LICENSE WAS REVOKED in February 2025 but his contract paperwork as of June 2025 still had his license number on it. His company asked for more money than agreed and was very late on the agreed timeline. We were initially interested in a kitchen remodel prior to the pandemic, but for a number of reasons decided to hold off. By the time we inquired with Gable from UHC in March of 2022, prices for materials and labor had risen and expected wait time for appliances had increased. We decided to begin with one of the full bathrooms upstairs, and were pleased with how quickly they were able to accomplish the project. We felt Gable had a trusted crew and proceeded with the master bath prior to beginning the kitchen. The master bathroom was a complete demo, down to the studs, and it was finalized down to the smallest detail, to our complete satisfaction. Our kitchen was somewhat complicated, as most of the plumbing/electrical/heating had been placed in a false, drop-down ceiling that we planned to remove. Justin spent a few days making sure this (now unnoticed) project was completed properly, and the outcome is beyond what I had hoped for. The kitchen is void of windows, and was previously dark and closed off, but the new layout brings in more light and an open floor plan. To say I am happy with UHC's completed work is an understatement. I don't want to leave my house because I am in love with it that much! I recommend Gable and his company to everyone I can. If you are on the fence about remodel, especially because of rising costs, I can ensure that the quality of work provided is well worth the investment and pays off. Highly recommend UHC!! read more

I have to give UHC construction 5 stars. This was my first time hiring someone to do a home remodel. I elected to have my master bath ( which is actually smaller than the second bathroom) done first. I met with several contractors that took a look around and took weeks to get an estimate back to me. One of my co-workers referred Gable at UHC. After calling Gable he quickly scheduled a site visit. Gable was the only contractor who after seeing our bathroom, sat down and provided me a detailed estimate on site. He also provided suggestions to make the tiny bathroom feel bigger since I didn't want to expand the bathroom. Some of his suggestions were making a recessed vanity, raising the plumbing on the shower ( perfect for my 6'5 fiance), and adding a barn door to the bathroom entrance. When it came time to the project, Gable had his employee Justin do the remodel. Justin was amazing. He was extremely professional, hard working and super detailed. Justin communicated with me every step of the way which put me at ease. Any question I had, he was able to answer it and provide suggestions. At the end of the project, I was so impressed with the work that I decided I should do my second bathroom. I felt comfortable knowing I picked a good company that I trusted and that was fair in price. They worked in a timely fashion where it felt it was done in no time. I've been on the fence since last summer over whether I'm going to file an official complaint with the Contractor's State License Board against this company. The good news is I ended up with a beautiful kitchen, but with a lot of CSLB regulations broken during the process. When I signed the contract, I was introduced to two employees (one to help with designing the kitchen, one to help choosing materials), neither of which was still employed by the company a few months later when we started planning the project. So I basically designed the kitchen myself with the help of Jimmy at Prosource. The owner demanded an initial payment four months before work was started (which is illegal), asked for the second installment about one day after work began (I had to create a schedule of milestones for when I would pay), charged my credit card (and put me over my credit limit) without my consent for the third installment, etc. I had to cancel my credit card to ensure he wouldn't charge the card again before I agreed the project was complete. The saving grace was the subcontractor who did the actual work was amazing. UHC was obviously undercapitalized and therefore needed payments before they were due and without paying the subcontractors in a timely manner. I was quite worried that the company was going to run out of money and be unable to finish the job. Not worth the stress of dealing with UHC! read more

These guys are the worst, do not consider them! I hired UHC to install new Kitchen counter tops and new floors. Instead of putting 6 inch counter backsplashes, they installed 4 inch backsplashes. They replaced the kitchen floors with hardwood. Instead of removing the old baseboards prior to installing the floors, they slipped the wood floors up to the old floor moldings and nailed quarter round on top of the old baseboards to "hide" their shotty work. I also hired UHC to repaint all the walls and six months later the paint is now peeling off. To top it off, they replaced two large bedroom windows. Living in a senior community where guidelines are required, they installed the cheapest possible windows that not only didn't meet code, but were not installed properly and didn't meet inspection--They had to jack ass is come over who knew nothing about window installation and there was no flashing to keep the rains out during the winter. We had to pay for brand new windows and had to take them to court to reclaim expenses. These people should not be in business. Unless you want to spend time in court with these people, do not hire them!!!!!! read more

I signed a contract in December, 2020 for the remodel of both of our showers. I also gave Gabe a check for $5,000 for the purchase of materials. Gabe told us to pick out our material from Ordaz Marble in Concord, CA and the work would start at the end of January. There was no further communication from UHC and Gabe did not return my phone calls. I finally found a direct phone number and got in touch with them in March, 2021. After many excuses they came and confirmed the measurements again and demoed the first shower on April 8th. The material was not ordered until May 4th and the shower was not completed until the June 9th. The second shower was demoed and they were supposed to start the remodel the following week. The work was not started and I kept leaving messages asking for progress. All I kept getting was excuses from UHC on why the work was not started. They kept telling me it was the fabricators fault and that they should have picked up the material to finish the job. After 6 weeks of waiting I contacted Ordaz Marble and discovered that the material was never ordered by UHC. All the material should have been ordered when I gave them $5,000 in December to pay for materials. I canceled the remainder of the contract and will have another company complete the work. I hired Cash to build my 2 BD / 2 BA ADU from the ground up and what a pleasure it was to have his team deliver. Prior to deciding to go with Cash, I spoke with several other General Contractors in my area and while there were some interesting bids, none of them quite get it the way Cash does. As a third-generation builder, Cash's instincts are second to none and he goes out of his way to make you happy. The thing about construction projects and remodels is they never go exactly according to plan. Because of that, it's much more important to pick the right partner as opposed to getting caught up in the minutiae. While Cash is an impressive salesman and is happy to work with you to make sure you feel completely comfortable on a contract, a handshake from him really means something. Over the course of the 9 months that I worked with Cash, his team was so patient with us and educated us along the way, even when we had concerns over supply shortages and other wait times. By the way, since meeting cash I have referred him to my father-in-law, my neighbor, my good friend and even people I have met on social media and the consensus from everyone has been that Cash will make you happy. Gable, When we first met you stated that you would paint the front and the garage wall. You did say that the stucco wouldn't be a perfect match but that you would paint the garage wall so it would blend. I assumed that meant that you would paint the whole wall not just 2 or so feet. You did come back to repaint the front of the house when I sent you picture and respond quickly to the text. In the text you said you were out of town but would but would set it up on Thursday. I never heard from you on Thursday so I believe I called you and you wouldn't give me a specific date or time you just said sometime the following week which did happen and thankfully the tenant was home. As far as electrical issues go, I can't really speak much to that but when I went to pay the electrician tenant told me they were running equipment and he lost power and he said he hadn't had any problems with the outlet. Also, you did get an electrician out there and it actually was the same day, not the next day which I appreciated since the tenant works from home. Never heard anything about a truck load of dirt being removed. Your subcontractor did tell me that he was going to have to dig some dirt away from the foundation so he could do the wall properly. Unsure as to what wall was painted for free and I didn't ask for anything for free. I did ask if the blind was going to be hung but when you responded as you did I decided not to use your service for hanging of the blind. Rossario , your subcontractor told me the whole livingroom would be painted so it matched and I still believe if you texture 3/4 of wall it should go to the corner so it will blend but what the heck do I know about construction. You saying that I had to get the tile delivered for $75 from the supplier and I didn't want to pay for it is not true. It was laminte flooring not tile. We had discussion about this the first day. I ordered the flooring and paid for it. I asked if you could pick it up. You asked where and I said by the airport. Oakland? was your response and I said no Livermore. You said sure. I spoke to Andrew several times over the weeks and kept asking him to pick it up so it could acclimate. I knew the laying of the floor was coming up and was tired of asking for it to be picked up so I picked it up. As I was driving to pick up the floor, Andrew called and asked for the name of the flooring store so he could pick it up. I told him I was already on the way and asked if maybe the guys could help me bring it in, so I think you might be confusing jobs. You didn't pick up the floor. Andrew did a great job in getting the window so quick and I am thankful that the job was completed timely even though I think the communication was lacking. Job was delayed 2 times in the beginning because plumbing issue on the previous job. I understand things happen but that is an example of my communication frustrations. I was not called about these delays. I called Andrew before to see if we were still on schedule. When it was going to be delayed a third time you changed contractors so it could be which I appreciated. I have no problem with the quality of the work but I do have issues with some of the details and what was said would be done. I was communication mostly through the person I thought was the project manager. Maybe that was my error and I should have been going through you or Angel. read more

The foreman came to the site 2 days before. The night before he couldn't start due to sickness. A few days after that United Home Constructors no longer wanted the job. In 2019 Gable came over to our pleasant hill house and sat down with us to review our plans for a brand new remodeled kitchen, new bathroom and new floors. He was able to work with our budget and build exactly what we wanted. He has great connections with other vendors for appliances, materials, floors and much more. He was able to introduce us to the right ppl and we were off to the races. Ryan came in and did most of the work with a smile on his face every day. His attention to detail was bar none as well. They even finished all of the projects within their estimated timeline... how good is that?! Fast forward to 2020, we are now moving and we called Gable as soon as we went into contract with another house. Not only did he show up to see the new place within a day but he's now squeezing us in to his already packed schedule so we can do some house work prior to moving in. UHC assisted us with installation of a brand new air conditioner (HVAC) in our home. We have a 9 month old and his room is the hottest in the house, so I was pretty nervous going into the spring and summer Martinez heat waves with our air conditioner constantly breaking down. Bobby, the HVAC specialist was prompt, friendly, courteous and professional. He was also very knowledgeable and reliable. UHC owner, Gable, came to our home personally on two occasions, including to simply check in on the job and our satisfaction with the work! He was incredibly responsive throughout the process. Also, UHC was reasonably priced (we got a second quote) and the work has been excellent. UHC does everything and does it well. They also assisted with a master bath remodel for my parents in the Oakland hills after a leaky sink destroyed it. We contacted UHC in June of 2020 for several projects in our home. The experience we had with Gable and his company did not leave us with the intent to ever use them again. To begin with, Gable was very eager to have us sign the contract and we were told our project would begin in a few weeks and take a few weeks to complete. A few weeks turned into months as we signed the first week of June and work didn't begin until September. We know it was during Covid times but communication was one of their weak points. The lack of organization from the Mgt was apparent throughout the project as was the poor communization. We were told we would receive updates every Monday and that never happened. I could go on and on about everything that did not go well but will say that the quality of work that was done and the contractors who came to our home were all great. They were all professional and knew what they were doing. None wore gloves as claimed in the Covid safe practices and most of them wore masks all of the time. Gable never reached out during the project to see how things were going and we only heard from him when he wanted the next payment. The end results are great but the stress of working with this company was not worth it. read more
