Easily 5 stars.. I've used these guys twice, I thought the first job was fairly strait forward (we knew within about 10 feet where the leak was). The second one was much more complicated, i.e. find a leak in large irrigation system. The tech who showed up was friendly, knowledgeable, practical, very very easy to work with. Took him about 45 minutes to find two separate leaks in my irrigation system. These guys aren't cheap, but they are very very good. read more

I had a water leak under a driveway concrete parking slab but I didn't know how close it was to the water meter box. Before I could contract to have the concrete saw cut I needed to know exactly where it was. American Leak Detection in Portland responded within a few days and located the leak, painting a blue dot above the leak. The charge was half the price my plumber wanted to charge. After the slab was saw cut and removed the leak was exposed. The location of the leak was spot on, directly over the leak, which was a cracked check valve connected to the water meter but just outside of the water meter box. I sent American Leak Detection a text message and informed them they were extremely accurate in identifying the location of the water leak. read more

This Portland branch is amazing! Rachel was super friendly, explained the leak detection process and was so helpful in scheduling. She even called me when there was a cancellation to see if she could have me seen earlier. Eric, the manager, arrived promptly at my scheduled appointment time. He reviewed my problem, talked me through the process and got right to work. Nobody likes springing a leak, especially near or in a swimming pool. It's never good and never inexpensive and always hard work. It's also often a long drawn out process with pretty good chances of finding more wrong than what appears at first glance. Their crew has been at this property where I've been working recently and working very hard. They really hustle and leave the job site clean and neat and safe. Their crew leader has great skills and also excellent communication skills and that helps those of us who know there's a leak but do not understand the finer details. Their management staff inside their home office spend all the time you need to understand those finer details. By next June or July our residents will be back to swimming in their pretty pool and staying happy due to the fine work provided by American Leak Detection. read more

American Leak Detection did a great job identifying the exact location of the leak and verified it was the sole location - everything else was solid. The leak was detected to within inches, leading to minimum demolition to effect the repair - and they were fast. They had all the equipment (thermal imaging, acoustic and visual tools) to find the leak and did a complete pressure test on the rest of the plumbing in the house. Price was reasonable. worked out great ! my time is important and I didnt want to spend it digging up my yard and jack hammering up the sidewalk (which we ended up doing anyway) but it could have been far worse, they found the leak and i spent my day digging and making repairs instead of trying to locate the leak. The only thing I would change is if they can find the leak under an hour maybe they could refund some of the cost back. It was $350 which is a lot but again it saved me time in the long run and the tech they sent out knew his job well. read more

These guys were great! We had an issue with our irrigation system not working so I called ALD and they were able to send someone out the same day that I called. Discovered water damage in our bedroom on the bathroom wall. They came out in October 2014 did not find the source of the damage. We paid $295 for no answers. The suggestions were if the carpet gets wet again to reseal the grout lines and wall and floor. We had a tile contractor come out and demo and redid the pan and tile floor and resealed all the grout lines, walls and floor. This last weekend we discovered the carpet wet again after using the shower for a month. I called American Leak Detection and was told they would send the tech out again but couldn't tell me if we would have to pay the continuation fee of $140 something an hour. The person I talked to told me she could talk to her office manager but that she would say the same thing and since its been more than 30 days they were doing more than they normally would. I would not recommend this company. read more

Great service, and I had an excellent service person. It's been a few weeks since my appointment, but I only have praise for this company and their rep. The first realization I had there was a water leak was my absolutely outrageous water bill that in no way could connect with the actual amount of water I was using (which is very little). The Water Bureau told me I needed to get a Leak Detection service, and the truth was, I had never heard of this before. I just assumed you called a plumber. Well it turns out the Leak Detector uses all sorts of interesting equipment and has to go where no man really cares to go (if necessary...and it was!) to figure out where the leak is. It took the better part of two hours for my service person to figure it out...turns out my plastic tubing to my fridge had been chewed on by hungry rats in my crawlspace...yuk. Now that he had located it, I was able to call a plumber to fix the leak...and replace the plastic tubing with copper...and voila, no more leak, and a water bill I can afford. The beauty of the leak detector is that you aren't turning your plumber into Sherlock Holmes...he knows right where to find the leak (which keeps the plumber's bill from escalating...). Overall, between the service and the separate plumber bill, I was out a bit under $500 out of pocket, but that actually was a lot less than it could have been (if for instance, it was an underground water pipe that had burst, or if the plumber had to figure out where the leak was, etc. etc.) Ironically, I also think this is the only company that offers this service in the Portland Metro area, so don't be alarmed if you have no one to compare them to...but you can rest assured you will be in good hands. My rep was friendly, efficient, and happy to discuss his service, methods and company with me, as well as answer any questions I had about the procedure. read more

We had a leak in the main water line, between our meter and the house. We didn't know where the leak was, or the path of the line to the house, but the leak was flooding my neighbors side yard. These guys were very professional and thorough. Once they found the leak, they gave us an estimate to repair it. We had a leak in our return pipe to our inground pool. They cut the concrete, repaired the pipe, back filled the hole and covered with fresh concrete. Cleaned up everything perfectly. These guys are the bomb! The American Leak Detection business I used is located in Eugene, Oregon, which is the closest to where I live in Roseburg. Everything from making an appointment over the phone, to meeting with their technician, was perfect. The woman who I spoke with to make an appointment was polite, pleasant, and extremely helpful. I had many questions, which she answered in detail. I had been told by a meter reader for my water association that my water usage had been unusually high when he came out for the monthly "read," and I was told that my meter was spinning when I was not using any water. I was advised by my water supplier to have a plumber come out, which I did. The plumber did very little in the way of an inspection, and told me it appeared that I had a leak in the main line that runs up from my road to my house (I live in a rural area and have a very long, steep asphalt driveway). I feared that I would end up having to spend a small fortune to have the leak not only located, but repaired. The plumber advised me to contact American Leak Detection to determine exactly where along the water line the leak existed. When the technician, Justin, came out to my house he spent a good deal of time doing this and that, such as shutting of various turnoff valves and checking outdoor irrigation, etc. He discovered that I did not have a leak in my main line, which is what I was told by the plumber I hired, but rather, I had water leaking from two zone valves in my backyard and another leak at a hose bib next to one of my outbuildings. Even though I had checked around prior to having American Leak Detection's visit, I failed to notice these problems. Because this company charges an additional amount of money for travel (I am 1-1/2 hours from their business), they were nice enough to split the cost to travel to Roseburg for the day between myself, a Taco Bell restaurant that needed their services, along with another resident near me. I am entirely pleased with this company and highly recommend their services. read more

The Oregon office is terrible. They incorrectly marked the leak location (they were off by more than 12 feet), and then claimed that this was an acceptable result because they do not guarantee their work. Full story: We were notified by our utility company of a suspected water leak, and we managed to isolate it to somewhere between our water meter and the line where water enters the house. We hired American Leak Detection to help us locate the leak. The technician ran helium gas through our line and found a location where he thought he detected some helium coming up from the ground. He poked a hole through the ground to "get a better reading" and when he still detected helium he declared victory and stopped looking. In reality, the leak was about 12 feet away and helium had just been traveling from the real leak along the the outside of the pipe/soil interface. Had he taken time to transverse the entire line or poke holes through the ground at multiple positions along the pipe to allow localized helium escape, he would have found the real leak. Instead, we wasted $700 paying plumber to dig up the yard and replace 5 feet of pipe where the technician said we had a leak only to find out at the end we hadn't resolved the leak at all. We called the American Leak Detection Oregon Office to request a refund since they hadn't actually located the leak. They refused saying that they do not guarantee the leak to be where they place their marker. What a waste of money - I wish I had known before scheduling an appointment that this company was not committed to performing the task for which I paid them read more
