The American Leak Detection company is expensive and incapable for pool leak detection. Two weeks ago, I paid $495 dollars for them to come to detect my pool leak. They did find one leak under the skimmer and hired contract fixed that. However, the pool is still leaking. I asked them to come back to detect again. They agreed but with hourly fee of $225. This time they come and confirmed the leak they found was fixed. But they can't find the source of current leak now. So I paid them $720 for finding a leak and not all leaks. Excellent customer service at the hands of John Lynn, their EVP!! I had Scott from ALD come out to detect a leak in my water main. Due to some unknown reason, the process of injecting air pressure & helium caused a blockage in my water main and there almost no usable water flow inside the house. After a couple of failed attempts to clear the blockage, I reached out to John, asking for help. He is just amazing! He claimed full responsibility upfront of the issue and at no point tried to wash his hands off it. He said before we came out, you had water, afterwards you don't. So we're responsible and we'll cover any costs to fix it. Since the only plausible solution was a new water main line, John agreed to reimburse me for that. I didn't have to once bug him to get that money. He was super pro-active & prompt & kept me updated throughout in getting me the reimbursement (which wasn't a small amount). *Customer service review.* I requested service via their website two different days and no response. Called and when they finally answered, they were able to set an appointment for later in the week, great. Day of appointment no one shows up. I called to see what happened and the person stated my appointment was for the next day. I indicated that I had an email confirmation with the correct date I scheduled and she stated that I must have misunderstood the date as it was for the next day. I assume they rescheduled me without notice, which would be fine if that was communicated to me earlier or in this matter at all. The person I spoke with had attitude and blamed me for getting the date wrong, which is an insane way to run a business. The fact that they didn't respond via their webpage and the attitude when speaking with them confirmed they would not be a great business to deal with. Especially if after inspection follow up is required. I found a SJ local inspector that did a great job and I'd recommend (see other reviews). I understand how negative reviews may hurt business but this business needs to know their staff is hurting them. read more

I was not happy with this service. It was very expensive and not worth it. The technician spent hardly any amount of time investigating. He used a moisture meter, which I could have done myself by buying one on Amazon (which I did). He did not inspect the roof or run plumbing tests or provide any meaningful advice or conclusions. Since I bought my house 5 years ago, I always have to patch around the skimmer with putty to stop huge water loss. I contacted American Leak Detection to find out if there is any other leak elsewhere and what I can do about the skimmer. In less than an hour, I had all my questions answered and get a solution to my problems. American Leak Detection is a family business. I called Shelley, the owner's wife, on the phone to ask questions and schedule appointments. She is very polite, efficient, and a very nice person to talk to. Bill the owner came to check the pool thoroughly for leaks and explained what the previous owner had done to the skimmer and why it constantly has problems. He also pointed out a mystery hole in my pool and tried to find its connection. I didn't care about this hole because it was not leaking. Bill told me that it could be an overflow hole connected to a wrong place like the bottom of my house. I appreciate this extra piece of information very much and will definitely watch for this hole during the raining season. I had pleasant conversations with Bill and learned quite a few things when he was checking leaks. Naturally I asked if he can rebuild the skimmer. He told me he can refer me to someone else or he can help in a week or two but not right away. I never felt the pressure to buy extra service from him or his wife. About the price, they have the best leak detection quote. I am thankful to have such great professional service with an affordable fee. I am looking forward to seeing Bill again for the skimmer rebuild and will update my review then. 10/30/2019 - UPDATE for the skimmer rebuild: In his last visit, Bill explained to me that because my skimmer was embedded in a huge concrete block, the weight of the concrete pulled the skimmer away from the pool and created big cracks in the tunnel. Today he came to drilled open the concrete and sure enough the skimmer was totally surrounded by it! It amazed me that he could guess what the previous owner did by just observing the appearance and location of the cracks. Bill spent hours to drill and remove the old stuff and put new pipes and a new skimmer in. It was all hard work but he did it very efficiently. We had, what the 1st technician diagnosed, as a 'massive leak' underground. His equipment couldn't detect where it was, so they had to send in the 'big guns'. Do NOT call this company! Following the "detection" of the problem leak with was located at the water meter. The technician left the site without calling us to discuss the situation and talk about needed repairs and having him complete the job. Our Tenant informed us he had left and said there was leak in the pipe. We had to call the office to inquire as to location of the leak and our next steps. We also had to request our written report be sent to us in order to assess further steps and costs. The office personnel informed us it would be two to three days before we would receive the written report. In the meantime, water is overflowing in the water meter due to a 3/4" PVC pipe leak! After telling me on the telephone they do not complete the work, but only detect the leak, they included an estimate of costs for the work they would be completing???? After reviewing the estimate and calling the office to inquire when they could complete the needed work, they informed me their technician was from Fresno and would be going back so they would not after all be able to complete the job. They also put the incorrect address on the invoice and when talking to the office staff, I very nicely requested they correct it and resend to me so I can submit to the City for reimbursement. From reading the past posts, I can see that several customers were unhappy with the outcome after spending $495.00. Try spending $850.00 and then to be treated like crap when you call to ask questions about the service rendered. I was told by the receptionist as well as Ivan that I would receive a report of the findings within three days. I received the report nine days later. I called the office and spoke with a wannabe CEO named Grant. Grant boasted about how well the company has done since him taking over and "cleaning house." I asked Grant if Ivan checked for any and all leaks in my pool. Grant told me Ivan did not dive into the pool due to the pool being dirty and not at 70 degrees. I told Grant that as Ivan indicated in the report, my pool was clean and in good condition (as well as pictures). As I begin asking more questions, Grant replied "you are just looking for something and you have an attitude." This guy did not look at the report, was unprofessional and told me I had an attitude. I only called to learn more about the report I paid for. Due to the way I was talked to and treated, I went with another company (blue splash) to repair my pool. The good thing is Ivan pinpointed two leaks that most companies probably would not have located. We have a long cement slab falling back and lifting up on top of the return jets. We called American leak detection to check the issue. Javier called with ETA for our scheduled appointment. He started by checking the return jets piping as it looked like there was obviously a leak but to our surprise no leak! Then he moved on to check our entire piping system just to make sure as we seemed to lose more water than we should have. He didn't find any leaks, which we are very happy to hear. Our pool system is quite old and a crack was patched up between the pool and the skimmer. He couldn't test that area but he explained to us how to test it ourselves (takes a couple of days) and to call him again if we find anything or have any questions. I am an extremely unhappy customer, and felt I was robbed---paying $445 for nothing. I contacted American Leak Detection earlier, and Robert was sent to my house to find a leak in my radiant floor. Clearly, he didn't have much experience on radiant floor system, and spent a lot of time on phone with the owner, Jim for troubleshooting. In the end, he just suggested us to give up on the radiant floor, and left. For those work, they billed me $445 for two hours, and I felt I was robbed---paying $445 for nothing. I called and emailed them multiple times, and finally the owner, Jim agreed to come again. Jim and Robert finally were able to pressurize the radiant floor system with water, and then told me that the pressure wasn't dropping, and left. I emailed and called them again, my contractor pressurized the system, and it did drop from 20psi to 5psi within a week, and I told them we need to do a helium test. They just response to me that there is NO leak, and if there is a leak, it will be very small and negligible. If we still insist to find it, it will cost us at least thousands of dollars. Then we called another radiant leak detection company, Anderson Radiant Heating, they're able to find a big leak as the attachment in just ONE hour using helium, and they event help me to repaired it and checked no more leak again! All within 2.5hrs. I feel really bad that spending so much with American Leak Detection for nothing, and they just refused to help me further. As good as a contractor gets! Called about losing water at a rapid rate after having our pool refinished. They came out right away. Checked every system on the pool to be sure they were not leaking. Found the leak, gave me a quote and returned to fix the leak with a 10 minute arrival window. This leak was not an easy fix. They dug up the concrete with a jack hammer and remover pavers. When I came to inspect I could not tell they had been there. No dust, No dirt, every paver back in place and all systems running! On time and under budget.. We booked with the pool division of American leak. They have local companies, so I am not sure we used the SJ office. They charged us to come out and find our leak, and we also hired them to fix it. They were on the site for two days and did the work we contracted them to do. However, they messed up our billing, and charged the wrong credit card. When their error was pointed out, they did not do the customer service to fix their error, but instead told us to figure it out among ourselves as they wanted to avoid the credit card fees the company would incur to refund us, and recharge the correct card. This is rather ironic, because before they started the job, they would not start without their filled out paperwork with the authorized credit card on it. My pool has cracks in the pool and a water leak above the pool. Inspector said there was no leaking in the pipes. The repairs are very expensive so I contacted 5 different pool repair places who all came out and said there were leaking pipes. I called American Leak Detection to relay what the repair people told me and today either the local owner/manager in San Jose called me and said there is no way his inspectors were wrong and he wants the names, numbers and licenses of every repair person who went out there. OMG I can't believe this company....... They came out on 11/22/16 to advise me where my main water line ran for it burst and I could not find the break. Jim sent his guys out and they detected the line and pointed it out to me along with promising to send me a written report that night, in which I never received. I had my plumbers and laborers here thanksgiving eve for it was an emergency and we needed water. My guys ran a new line to find out American did not identify the line correctly. I called Jim advising him we had no water in our back home as he advised me to call his office and he would be on it Monday morning. I called and did what he asked to find out he claims? His secratary never gave him the message, he did know I had the emergency coming directly from me. I then again called him Monday night when I found out his secratary never gave him the message. Once again he asked me to call his office and he would be out Tuesday morning. So I called again and left a message, I received a call this morning from his secratary as she stated Jim would call me soon. Once again, I never received a call from him all day so I called him this evening and he lied to me as he said he called me several times as I never received a call from him along with him stating he sent a service truck to my house and they waited for a long time with no response. I have video cameras thru out my property and no truck ever came to my house today... He is a real piece of work and shall be dealt with accordingly. We have a swimming pool and we notice a severe leak a few weeks ago. We thought it must be a broken pipe underground, so I called American Leak Detection for a service. Bill came last week, he checked everything and found a couple of cracks. He patched the cracks for us without extra charge. While I did a bucket testing after the fix, I found the leaking was much better than before but still noticeable. I called the company and Bill agreed to come back to re-check the issue the next business day. When he came for the second time, he found that it was the same crack causing the leak. He patched it again. Since then, there was no leaking anymore. We greatly appreciate their service and appreciate that they treat their customer with a great care. Shelly was very polite on the phone and Bill was very experienced and professional. They did not charge for the re-check and re-patch. We paid $395 for the detection service. We are very pleased that we did not need to make extra effort for the fix because it had been taken care of during the detection check.
