Used American Moving and Storage to move my daughter from one apartment in Columbus to another a few miles away. I was a bit anxious about this as I was coordinating from Los Angeles and she was out of the country and not arriving in Columbus until the day before the move. They arrived on time, helped her pack up most of her stuff as she had done nothing, they were polite, professional, efficient and quick. The price was fair and came under what they quoted. During the phone conversation arranging for the service, they explained their process thoroughly and send me an emailed confirmation. They made me feel comfortable. I would 100% recommend this company and I am very appreciative of their efforts. ****Update*** I agree with Jeffrey's comments below. I forgot to mention that they gave me a detailed phone interview when I scheduled the move originally. These guys were fantastic! We moved the day after Thanksgiving and they showed up 10 minutes early and had our whole 3 bedroom place loaded up in an hour. They sent an extra man at no charge and came in under time and under budget, and were extremely friendly and careful with all of our furniture. We were using ABF u-Pack to move from California to Westerville and were in need of assistance getting the trailer unloaded. After much searching we took the chance to go with American Moving and Storage. Setting up move day with Jeff went quickly and he was knowledgeable about what we needed to have done. We scheduled for two movers and, even with ABF only able to give a window of arrival on the trailer, Jeff was willing to work with me on the arrival time. He followed up the day before the move and on the morning of the move too. When his team arrived (Henry and Tony) it was all business for them and they worked there asses off for us. I had two other friends assisting with the smaller items that did not require the experience of Tony and Henry. Tony and Henry worked well with all of us working together to get the job done. Even though we had some tricky turns on the stairs they were able to quickly figure out what needed to be done to get the furniture to the places it needed to be. In one case they had to go around to the back of the condo through the snow to get the couch inside. Not only did the move get done quickly but it was done with no damage to the house or the household goods. I highly recommend Jeff and his team for your move. We had this company move us last year. After the movers left my husbands narcotic pain medication came up missing. I searched the entire house, returned to our previous home, cleaned out our cars and the pills never turned up. The only people with access to the medication were my husband,myself and the movers. In addition there were other medications in the same basket, in the same location and those were undisturbed. This left my disabled husband in significant pain and withdrawals as these medications can not be easily replaced. read more

I selected this company based on Yelp reviews. Rather than asking for a flat rate estimate, I paid by the hour (I don't recommend this in hindsight- you pay for smoke breaks and rain delays). Two movers showed up early with a nice sized truck and reminded me that they accept gratuities before we started. They were pleasant and worked at a steady (if not quick) pace. I requested quotes from several companies. These guys quoted half the price of one of them, and the other never bothered to respond. When I called to schedule my move the gentleman who answered the phone was very nice and went through the inventory of my apartment room by room. These guys were AMAZING! They were actually EARLY! I lucked out because I was quoted for 2 guys but there were 3, but they didn't charge me for the 3rd one. They were terrific. I couldn't believe how quickly they emptied out my apartment, and I have a very heavy, brand new bedroom set. They were super careful with everything, covering my furniture and securing things in their truck. I bought a second floor condo, and they didn't fuss at all about having to haul all my furniture and boxes up the stairs. They asked me where I wanted everything, and put it all exactly where I asked. I had marked all the boxes so I would know where things were, and they actually put the boxes in the rooms I had written on them. I've moved many times over the years, and that is only the second time movers have done that. They took my furniture apart for me and set it all back up in my new home. The best part is the total charge was actually the LOWEST number they had quoted me when they gave me a price estimate. I have reviewed about a bad experience I encountered with another Columbus based moving company so I figured I should write about my good experience. After getting myself moved into my new house with just one friend, myself, a U-Haul and about 6 hours to do it in, when it came time to move my then girlfriend (now wife) to move into our house as well I wanted nothing to do with it. I called several different moving companies, about 4 others total, all seemed uninterested to work with our schedule and some had fees that if I hadn't asked about, I do not think they would have mentioned (i.e. stairs fee, etc..). When I called American not only was the guy friendly, he worked with my schedule and told me about all costs up front. (They do not have a stairs fee). The move went very well, the movers did a great job, nothing was damaged and everything was right on schedule. The customer service and quality of the move will have me come back to this moving company again the next time we do move. I highly recommend it. read more

I was just BLOWN AWAY by how awesome this company was-- BLOWN AWAY!! I honestly didn't know movers could be so amazing! The day I moved alternated between being INSANELY, freakishly hot and pouring rain but the two-man team, Lee and Brent, managed to be spectacularly good-natured and professional and lovely through it all. Seriously, Lee is like a moving ninja! I've never seen anything like it. He helped me take apart and box my TV and stand in moments flat, he was able to locate, disconnect (and then later reconnect) the water line on the fridge so it could be moved to allow the washer and dryer to be moved out of the basement in WAY less time than it had taken the maintenance guy sent by my landlord to do the same when I moved in, he could tear packing tape with his bare hands and box things up faster than I'd known was possible AND when we got to my storage unit, he "tetris"-ed the stuff I'd already put in there so that it took up 75% less space-- I think if necessary, he could have figured out a way to fit an entire second apartment full of stuff in there with room to spare. Overall, this moving company was just awesome and SO organized, professional and reliable that I couldn't recommend them more. Their quote was reasonable and accurate, they arrived for a noon start time at 11:59 a.m., they treated my super low-end craigslist and garage-sale furniture like it was priceless and irreplaceable and they were the bright spot in an otherwise thankless move. I've used movers for my last three moves, and these guys were probably the best. They moved me from an apartment to a house in just three hours, including transit time. They were fast, careful and courteous, and did a fantastic job setting everything up. I know they had to be tired as they had already done one move that day, but you would never have known it. I even asked them to take an additional break at one point, but they kept working (they only took one short break during the whole move, other than a brief interval to pet my neighbor's dog.) They even hauled an old couch to the dumpster for me. Their prices are extremely competitive too. Definitely call them when you are shopping for movers, as I don't think you can get anyone better for service or price. The whole experience was about as pleasant as moving can be. I'd definitely use them if I ever moved again (but you'll have to kill me to get me out of this house.) Also, be sure to have cash on hand to tip the movers. They deserve it. read more

Jeff was a great guy to work with- he was courteous and professional and even confirmed the move with me a few days prior. Dennis and his buddy showed up right on time, and moved me in a bionic sort of fashion. Unbelievably fast, zero damage. And the guys were fun and charming to boot! My experience with J., a customer service representative with American Moving & Storage, infuriated me enough to take the time to leave this message. I can't recall in recent memory ever having a telephone conversation with a company that essentially dissuaded me from doing business with them. I was taken aback by what appeared to be cockiness by his questioning me about packing my own boxes, even though they may have been relatively small in quantity. All I wanted to obtain was a quote for packing services, not find myself being questioned on whether or not I could pack the items myself. And, his questioning of the assistance with moving safes in the home is another story. Jeff Frank, the owner visited our apartment we were leaving, at my request. We have a couple of very large, valuable pieces of furniture and I wanted to ensure they would be able to safely move them. He provided a quick, accurate estimate and I signed immediately. The moving crew (Henry/Bell/Tony) rocked! Professional, quick, and great senses of humor which is good on a stressful moving day. Everything was moved correctly and without damage. They probably cost 10% or so more than the normal rank and file, but it more than pays for itself! I called for an estimate for a move from Columbus to Galion. I stated we wanted mainly to move some appliances, beds and a few large things that I can't do on my own due to my disability and my 70 year old mother who is moving with me is unable to help move this stuff. I was told they couldn't help me due to truck size. I know what I needed moved would fit in a 26 foot uhaul quite easily so it should have fit in their 26 foot box truck just as easily. I felt like this business did not want to be bothered helping me, so thanks anyway, but I will keep looking elsewhere for someone who does want my business. Very disappointing considering the rave reviews and mentions of them moving people from Columbus to Cleveland which is a much farther distance to travel than Galion. read more

These guys were buttoned up, organized, very careful with our items, extremely polite and professional, and busted their butts! we used american moving and storage for our move on april 10, 2010, and we had a great experience. they arrived on time and were prepared will all the equipment, etc. they needed to make our move as quick and convenient as possible. they wrapped the door frames with padding, wrapped our mirrors and glass tabletop with pads, and moved everything efficiently without scratching walls or breaking anything. our move was small--from a 1 bedroom apartment, and they were able to have everything in the truck within an hour from arriving at our door, and had everything in our new place within the next hour. overall, they were prompt, friendly, efficient, and reasonably priced. a great experience all around. read more

I could not imaging this move going any better. They had giving us a very comparable estimate but since we were just moving a few miles and had a pickup truck I decide to go with an hourly rate and just have them move the big stuff. They estimated it would take 10 hrs. The self described "Senior" crew (3 guys in their 50s) showed up right on time and got right to work. They never stopped moving and were getting it done so fast that we had them move about 50 boxes as well. 6.5 hrs later they were all done without any damage or any issues! read more

I was supposed to moved today. I had this company moved me twice and now they have new workers who told me to strip my bed and i was waiting to see if they was going to start taking my furniture out. I look outside they was in the truck and left. I called the manager he gave me a sorry excuse of why they couldn't move my furniture. I am not a fan of moving, so I don't do it very often and I have learned it's worth it to pay people to do it for me. We recently bought a home and had American Moving and Storage handle the move. They showed up promptly and did the job to a mostly satisfactory level. There were a couple of issues, including one mover being sick during the loading process, but they found someone to replace him to unload. Since they are paid by the hour, I did think this slowed them down a bit, but that was somewhat evened out with the unload. I may use them again in the future, but I'm hoping we don't have to move again...ever. read more

These guys moved me in February...in a snow storm. They actually had to drive to grove city, empty my storage unit and load it into their truck, drive everything to downtown and move it all into my 7th floor condo. They fit EVERY piece of furniture into the REGULAR sized elevator and did the job in under three hours. They were professional, amiable, and incredibly helpful from the moment I called to schedule my move until the moment that I called after the job was over because I lost my receipt (which I needed for reimbursement).
