My rating is a 3.5 star . We made a group reservation about a week in advance for manicures and pedicures. When we arrived we were able to sit almost immediately. They have a wide variety of polishes but more traditional colors. They started with a pedicure. I haven't had my nails done in years and it seemed like a very quick service. I remember in the past they would give you more of a massage experience along with the treatment, but it was very quick. They did put lotion on my legs but it wasn't the same experience I have had in the past. I selected the shellac polish, which lasts longer than the a regular polish but it is also more expensive $39. I choose an accent color for my ring finger. My technician wasn't very friendly and barely spoke to me. She also nicked my thumb a little bit during the cuticle trim. Overall I probably won't be back anytime soon, but it was an okay experience. Total cost without tip was $71. read more

My most favorite thing about this place is the ability to book online. Absolutely love this! I've been to many nail places in the Highlands, and this is currently my favorite. It's in a large space with nice decor. They have a parking lot in the back (with lots of parking spaces for this area of town). They have a check-in device where you can enter your phone number to let them know you have arrived. The only downside is the device is at the front counter; so if another customer is checking out, you have to wait for them to finish before you can use the check-in device. I highly recommend Thi (pronounced like the letter T). She is very good at her job. She is detailed-oriented, kind, polite, focused, conscientious, and efficient with time. If you are super chatty, she may not be right for you. If you prefer to have someone focus on your nails and get the job done well, then book an appointment with Thi. My constructive feedback would be regarding some of the cleanliness. They could use someone specifically dedicated to cleaning. The other employees appear to be too busy to keep up with cleaning. The protective plastic barriers are great for reducing the spread of viruses, but they have lots of spots. And when you are sitting in the waiting area, you can see areas under cabinets that need cleaning (see picture). The nail tools they use are all clean, that's not an issue at all. They just need some general housekeeping. The 5 stars show that I recommend American Nails. If you are looking for a place to get your nails done in the Highlands, check it out. Came to get manicures and pedicures for my sister in laws wedding. Realized when I got home there is a brush hair between the paint layers. Frustrated as we had appts Saturday at 5, won't be able to make it back there within 15 mins before 6:45 and they aren't open Sunday. Coming back Monday morning is pointless. I went to American Nails for a Hot Stone Spa Pedicure with my boyfriend! This nail spa is so pretty inside. I their massage chairs are very comfortable and the tubs remind me of the inside of a beautiful shell--very unique! This salon is extremely clean and tidy. They used new products during our pedicure and even lined the tub to make sure there is no cross contamination from other customers. Further, there was a splash guard between myself and my technician. I appreciate that the salon takes steps to protect their workers and customers this way. The smell inside the salon is divine! There is no strong nail polish smell --even when I my toes were being painted I could only smell the wonderful orange-y spa scent in the air. So relaxing! I opted for gel and it came out exactly as I asked. My boyfriend did not opt to get a color on his toes but they did ask him if he wanted color. I appreciate that they gave him the option so much! I have been coming to this salon for years and it remains the very best nail salon I have ever visited across several states!! The things that set this salon apart are MAJOR. This salon always provides consistent service. The technicians are never pushy and all treat you like their favorite customers. They are patient when you are picking out your nail color and will even help pull the shades you are interested in. They have a floor to ceiling selection of top brand nail polish, BTW! They are not pushy and don't try to upsell you on every little thing. They do not talk over you to their colleagues, instead they engage you in conversation and treat you like an individual. Felt very deceived coming in here. I came here because my normal place was too busy. They said they charge $32 for a gel powder full in. That's all I got. Very basic set. As my nails were actively being painted she said it's $3 dollars more for length. My nails are what I consider very short. Maybe a centimeter over my finger. Then I go to pay and my total is $55 dollars. When I asked for an explanation they said it was $8 dollars more for gel. Still should have only been $43 dollars and I paid in cash. Starters, she did a good job. I asked for a $25 dollar regular fill. She said I could do $42 gel fill and I said no thanks. She still brought over the gel polish after trimming my nails. I said no thanks I'll take the $25 polish and she said oh I charge $6 for taking gel off, $5 for trim and $5 for shape and said it would be $42 for a REGULAR FILL. I said okay then how much for gel and she RAISED it to $52! She thinks we are stupid. She NEVER told me about any up charge throughout the process. I feel ripped off. I would've just gotten gel. Went to the Bardstown Rd location. This is a really nice salon! The only reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 is the spa pedicures my friend and I purchased felt very rushed. I was hoping for a more relaxing experience. There weren't a lot of patrons that morning so I'm not sure what the hurry might have been. OK let's just get it out there - I'm a big, burly, beardy guy. And I like to get my toes did sometimes. It's a cool experience to have someone massage and trim and exfoliate and whatever the hell else they do that, as a guy, I don't know the words for. And yeah, I do get the nails painted. The wait usually isn't very long, and you can make appointments. The nail techs have always been friendly, efficient, gentle and experts at making my digits look and feel great. In fact, it's about time for a return trip to get my dewclaws filed. read more

I had my first gel manicure at American Nails last week. I really enjoy the salon itself. It's a large space, that's well decorated, with a great spa feel. The salon seems very clean and well kept, which I have noticed many other salons don't seem to care so much about. I did not have a pedicure, but I am looking forward to going back to have one there in the future, because the chairs look very relaxing and I watched a pedicure being done during my manicure and it seemed very thorough and enjoyable. The staff in the salon were very nice to me, attentive, and quick to greet me and get my manicure started, so I have no complaints there. The reason for my low-star review is because I was not extremely happy with the manicure itself. Initially I asked for a specific paint job on my nails and they told me they could not do it, because it was too difficult and would not turn out well. (It was a maroon/burgundy color with a clear triangle at the cuticle.) I was fine with that. If you can't do it you can't do it. I went with a simpler design, maroon/burgundy with a gold glitter accent nail on the ring finger of each hand. My manicure started well. The technician seemed knowledgeable and thorough in prepping my hands and her tools. However, throughout the manicure process she did not push back my cuticles well or cut the cuticles and skin around my nail beds well. I don't feel like she really removed the excess cuticle and callouses around the nail at all. Also, my hands were never soaked during the process, just left with cuticle remover on the nail in a heating glove for a moment. I was also not happy with the finished paint job I received. When I manicure my nails at home I am very thorough. I make sure to push back my cuticles, cut them, and paint all the way to the edges of my nail bed. I have uploaded photos of the paint job I received four (4) days ago. My nails have not grown out within that time period, it's just that they were never painted fully. I don't feel like the technician was rushing, because the salon was fairly empty while I was there. Every other person in the salon was being helped, no one was waiting. Again, this was my first experience with American Nails. And I feel like the technician may have been too careful because we were using a darker paint color. I plan to give them another shot with my usual French tip gel manicure in the future, and as I mentioned above I'd like to go in for a pedicure as well. Hopefully at that time I'll be able to update my review to a better experience. read more

I really enjoyed my visit to this salon. I went on a saturday (bad idea) with no appointment. I did end up sitting for about 30 minutes before I was taken back to the pedicure area. They had a large selection for colors to choose from. The lady was quick/efficient and didn't seem to cut corners on making me feel relaxed. After my pedicure I had a manicure, she did a wonderful job on my fingers. Both treatments stayed on without chippinf for at least 2 weeks (my fingers always chip quickly). It can be pricey-so beware. Just ask for the regular mani/pedi if you are looking for prices you are used too. If you want something above an beyond I think the special pedi's started around $43.00. They do have a private lot for parking-a very small sign points you to it, you will most likely drive by it if you are new to the area. Not open on sundays :( read more

I went in to American Nails on Bardstown Road on October 26, 2015. I have been going there since they opened. I went there to receive a great manicure and pedicure since I have been working really hard lately... needed a spa treatment! That was the LAST thing I got was a relaxing pedicure! I was sitting in the massage chair everything was going fine until the technician started with the razor on my right foot. She sliced a huge chunk of skin off the side of my right foot big toe! I started bleeding profusely! She ran to get band aids and put some weird green liquid on there to try to stop the bleeding but the cut was VERY deep. I asked for Neo and she ran to the front and got the Neosporin cream from the owner. The owner NEVER bothered to come back there and look at the cut on my foot or even ask me about it. She just kept sitting there watching a movie on her iPad she kept hidden in the drawer with her earphones plugged in her ears. In the mean time we keep trying to get the bleeding to stop! Took 4 - 5 bandaids wrapped very tightly. SO this was not a very relaxing experience. And in the end they took $10.00 off my bill but still charged me for the services. My foot has been throbbing and looks terrible! I have had to keep bandaids on it and am hoping I don't get an infection! To make matters worst... as I was leaving the technician and the owner were arguing at the front desk in their native language while she was holding up my receipt. It was clear that the owner was not happy about the $10.00 off that I was given. It's clear they are ONLY concerned with money and not the well being of their customers. Otherwise the owner would have at least accessed the situation by looking at my foot. I also don't appreciate them speaking in their native language in front of me! It's very rude! I asked them if there was a problem and they just looked up at me and said "no." This is not a good business practice and very unprofessional on the part of the owner. read more

They did not even begin my friends nails until mine were basically finished. My friend said to them that she was going to leave because it took so long and she had work. they insisted she got them done and removed another lady from her chair to fit her in. If you are not going to read the following paragraph I will sum it up here, just in case. Save your money and go literally anywhere else. Literally, anywhere. Okay, now that the jist is over, please allow me to break it down further. My friend and I had a scheduled appointment at 12:45. After we got there 10 minutes early my friend was seated right away. I was taken to another table where the nail tech looked at my nails, and told me to soak them in acetone to take the previous nails off. After she put both of my hands in the acetone, she left a started doing another ladies nails that was in line behind me. Fast forward 30 minutes. My nails are still soaking, so actually, fast forward 43 minutes instead. At this point no one has helped me STILL and my fingers begin to burn. I asked the nail tech if she could pause on her other client and take the nails off because my fingers were starting to hurt. She came over and barely wiped my nails and told me i had to soak them for longer. So I did. So now we are at the 55 minute mark of me soaking my fingers. No one has seen me yet even though my appointment was made over an hour ago. When someone FINALLY took a look at my nails they had me soak them in acetone AGAIN. Because after the pain for the first time, I had to take them out, and because no one was there.... suprise??? The nails became firm again. So I had to soak them again.... for another 10 minutes. My fingers were on fire at this point, and extremely dry. They wanted to do it for even longer, so that's when finally I said no and asked her to keep filing them down, because like the feeling in my fingers, my patience was gone. So she finally starts my nails and that's where the review really begins. The nails are lumpy, poorly shaped, and my friend's nails are so crooked it's not even funny. (the nail tech then proceeded to tell my friends her fingers are what were crooked, not the nails) ((news to her)). We literally had to file them ourselves, and honestly they should consider hiring us because they didn't even look presentable until then. So after all of this I was thinking "well, for this terrible service I guess it's a good thing it's only 31 dollars". I was wrong. Because after being at the salon for two and a half hours, we were finally ready to leave and never come back. But imagine. my. suprise. when she rung it up to a TOTAL OF 67 DOLLARS. ????????? When I asked about it she told me it was six dollars to remove the nails, 15 for gel, and extra for the design and time it took to complete them. THEY HAD THE AUDACITY TO CHARGE ME FOR CAUSING ME PAIN FOR OVER AN HOUR. If you have ever**** and I mean ****ever**** had your nails done you should know that acetone takes about 20 minutes of direct pressure to take any nails off, maybe 30 tops. And truly, I wouldn't be upset about the gel upcharge, but the nail tech didn't EVEN TELL ME it would cost extra!! She just charged me an extra 15 dollars without my knowledge.... And the EXTRA 20 DOLLAR DESIGN?!?!? you may ask?????? A french tip. And it's comedy because they are still horrible. They list their pricing at 30 dollars, but even with the upcharge no one should pay more then 20 for these sets. No one should honestly CHARGE more than 20 dollars for those horrible nails, because it also comes caked with extra atrocious customer service. So if you are in Louisville and looking to get your nails done, well this place shouldn't even be on your list, but if SOMEHOW it did make it???? Put it dead last. read more

American Nails did a good job on my nails. But the reason I gave it one star is because two nail technicians cursed me out in Vietnamese in front of my face. They said I took too long to select a paint color and then called me repeatedly the Vietnamese word for "dumbass." In Vietnamese, that is a very harsh word. They thought I did not know Vietnamese. So when I confronted them, they looked ashamed but didn't apologize. I believe this type of customer treatment is unacceptable. And I am horrified and disappointed that they abused their language ability to demean a customer. I hope this was an isolated incident, but I will neither return nor recommend its services. read more

I was torn between trying this place and the place in Mid-City Mall since I live in the neighborhood. I usually go to a spot across from Tafel Motor and they always do a great job and have great prices. I walk in and the woman at the front counter could not have been more put off. I am a new customer, and the first impression was not inviting. AT ALL. I pick out my color. Now, the place seems really clean and a mix of open, modern (love the light fixture and all the natural light) meets really bad 80's Miami Vice. A woman was walking up pre-occupied with cutting or filing her nails, barely looked up at me and pointed over to pedicure area. She filled up the tub, I slipped into the chair. I didn't want to just plop my feet in the tub because I didn't know if she was ready for me to do so...since she never looked at me or said a word. Then she seemed so annoyed and told me to put my feet in the water. Alrighty then. The water was super scalding hot. She didn't ask... The pedicure was subpar, at best. I have some paint splotches above my nails. She didn't even exfoliate the bottom of my feet. I couldn't have been more disappointed. I had walked 7 miles the day before, and run quite a bit. All I wanted was, at least, an average foot scrub. I don't often treat myself as I usually just do it at home. The whole time I was cursing myself for not going to the joint in St. Matthews that has always been super friendly and give amazing pedicures. She got up when done pointed over for me to go and sit under the toe dryer. I sat with no dryer on, as she disappeared. She came back up turned it on, took her money and disappeared again. Not sure why this place isn't rated higher. I visited this salon with my mother back in June for a wedding I attended in the area. It was a Saturday and it wasn't too crowded. From the moment I walked in to the moment I left, I could tell that quality and service rank as top ideals here. First, I am immediately enamored with the chandelier. Can you say OMG? It's just gawjus dahling!!! They have spared no expense on atmosphere. The color scheme, light fixtures, and art all say "stop here and get your nails done you sexy goddess". And after a long, hard work week, I can say we certainly did need to feel like goddesses. Yes please! They had spaces for us immediately, 2 massage chairs, and we were only held up by our preoccupation with the extensive options in nail color. Rows and rows of nail polish line several walls as well as a middle display counter with gels, shellacs, and specialty brands. Not only did they have OPI (I only use OPI for my manicures and pedicures) but they had a special OPI that has a luxe shine and lasts even longer. Even though there was a hefty upcharge for that, I figured I deserve it. The goddess treatment continued for my mother and I during our spa pedicure and manicure. Our nail techs were extremely friendly, conversational, and asked us a lot of questions. I enjoyed their presence. And the spa pedicure had the right amount of perks to make you feel like you're treating yourself. The products all smelled so amazing and left my skin feeling soft. The only thing better than the service was the actual work on my goddess hands and feet. Two thumbs up. This place reminded me so much of something I'd experience at home. This is the first nail salon I've been to in Louisville that has a legitimate spa-like atmosphere, with service to match. There is a very large selection of OPI and Essie nailpolish to choose from before you sit in one of the wonderfully comfortable pedicure chairs. You can choose from a selection of scented lotions - coconut is my favorite. I've been here a few times now, and have had great experiences even they were pre-Derby busy. Before I went on a 10 day trip to Trinidad & Tobago, I had my nails done here and they still looked decent after a solid week. Stopped in for a pedicure with my Mom on a weekday evening and we were able to get seats immediately. Staff was friendly and did a good job on our nails. They up-sold us on the wax treatment--a strange experience--putting your feet into plastic bags of hot wax, but the results were super soft feet. I enjoyed the massage chair and chatting with my Mom. Nail salons are a lot like a doctors office when you really think about it. You expect quick, professional, and tidy services for a price that won't flaberghast you or your wallet. There is a large pedicure chair area in the back half of the establishment that has about 20 cozy, massaging, chairs that would be ideal for a wedding party having their nails done together. I inquired about this party-idea to my stylist and she informed me that people often-times used these for this purpose and brought champagne with them to clink glasses and celebrate the occasion. There are also a large number (more than 20+) manicure styling booths and a wall-full of fresh seasonal colors. I have found that in the past the better colors get picked over quickly and this salon keeps up with what is of the fashion at the time. The manicure consists of: shellac removal (the high-concentrated acetone I believe is covered by a damp cloth and is warmed to improve removal without scrubbing); between hands the manicurist will gently file the remaining shellac off of the nail and re-soak; next is the manicure itself complete with dead cuticle removal and a step that involves putting your hands in a plastic bag covering with moisturizers and then placing heated gloves over them; afterward you wash and the color-fixing begins (as well as a light hand massage)! My manicure takes about 30-40 minutes and I have never had to wait for a seat here. There is ample LOT PARKING (on Bardstown/Baxter) so it is awesome to get to relax after work since street parking is forbidden during this time on this road. My total dollar bill: $40 (including tip). The stylist is somewhat talkative and efficient. I will return. read more
