We loved it here. It's absolutely gorgeous. We came for 4th of July weekend and it was packed, but the day after it emptied out and was very peaceful. We will absolutely come stay again. It IS pricey, but they have free hot showers and very nice staff, I found the price to be worth what we paid. Note: whoever does the marketing for this place, PLEASE consider losing the AI posts...it's really off putting and you have a beautiful location. Pay a content creator to get you some high-quality posts...heck, you can even use my pictures if you want. Just quit with the AI. We booked a wedding tour while we were staying. Our tour was nice, but it really left us wanting more. If you are considering this spot as a venue, it will be a lot of work. They do not feel ready to support a full scale wedding. That being said, if you do not need a kitchen/caterer and you are big into DIY, then it might work for you. We were not shown the lower priced venue option, and our guide made us feel like it wasn't worth it anyway, so we feel that option should be removed from the brochure.

    Sunrise by the river

We planned a large group camp trip to American River Resort and our tween/teen girls ground had a BLAST bonding by the river. Gorgeous sunrise & sunset. Easy access to the river. CLEAN bathrooms and showers. Great tents on the platforms. The cots are not the most comfy, but they worked. I'd definitely recommend this place to other campers looking for a safe and family friendly environment.

Stayed here for 2 days and the experience was amazing. The raft guides were wonderful and the sites were huge. Amazing camp, staff, and rafting.

My boyfriend and I stayed two nights in the platform tent cabins and had such a nice vacation. we were literally a 30 second walk from the river! the cots provided were surprisingly comfy and the deck had a great view of the river. while we could've lounged around the river all day, we had a great time exploring coloma. try to go on a living history day, there are a lot of knowledgeable locals to chat with! also check out Troublemakers beer garden down the road... really fun space to listen to music and sip on some brews.

Nice resort along the American river. Many options for accomodations, from walk-in tent camping or canvas tent structures and cabins along the rivers edge, to tent and Rv hook ups in the hills above. They also have group camping areas near the river. The restrooms are clean and well maintained. There's a catch & release fishing pond and a swimming pool and a swimming hole on the river. They have a convenient store with many basic supplies and snacks and even offer river rafting trips. It does get very popular and loud on the weekends. The groups next to us were quite noisy until late night but we stayed on until Monday and the weekdays are peaceful with beautiful views of the stars at night. I recommend this place especially off season and on weekdays unless you like crowds and loud music.

Excellent tent camping location, spot #14 in front the rapid 'troublemaker'. Choose from cabins, safari tents, or byoTent. Tent sites have hard ground may be difficult to hammer your spikes. Also extremely dusty, no grass. fyi- tent sites do not allow vehicles. Can be far to park. Minimal showers, also a bit of a walk. Nice cold pool available. Campsites have plenty of large trees shade.

It's only about an hour away and just a short drive from Placerville, making it an easy escape into nature. We stayed in South Fork Cabin J, one of the resort's select pet-friendly cabins, and absolutely loved it. It was the perfect blend of camping and glamping with a fully equipped kitchenette including a stovetop, microwave, sink, toaster, dishes, and utensils, plus a private bathroom with a shower, two A/C units, and a spacious living area to relax after a day outside. My Goldendoodle, Bailey, had the best time exploring the property and curiously checking out the river. We loved relaxing in the Adirondack chairs along the water, and there was plenty of open green space along with giant chess, Connect Four, and cornhole. I also appreciated the multiple dog waste stations conveniently located throughout the resort. Check-in was incredibly easy since we arrived after 5 p.m. Our paperwork was waiting on the corkboard at the front gate, and we received our gate code by email the day before arrival. The staff were wonderful, especially Joey, the Reservations Manager, who took the time to recommend local activities, resort amenities, and nearby historical sites. The resort also has beautiful riverfront cabins and campsites, a cute camp store stocked with souvenirs, firewood, and forgotten essentials, plus a unique one-year rebooking policy that lets you reserve the same accommodation for the following year if you fall in love with your stay. We also highly recommend grabbing a coffee and a bite to eat at Argonaut Café. Overall, Coloma Resort is a beautiful, peaceful destination whether you're looking to camp, stay in a cozy cabin, or enjoy a dog-friendly weekend in nature. We can't wait to come back!

From the moment we stepped onsite for our initial tour, EarthTrek was the immediate and obvious top choice for us. The grounds and facilities are very well kept and it's obvious that the family takes a lot of pride in the way they care for the site. There are so many areas for guests to explore and enjoy - many of our guests raved to us about the beautiful, serene venue. The river provides such a soothing backdrop and the whole site feels very private and secluded. We really loved that our guests could book overnight camping, and we also opted for the breakfast burrito option on Sunday morning, which was a big hit and a really delicious, bountiful spread. Laura, who was our primary point of contact, is a dream to work with - just genuinely one of the nicest people I've ever come across, and so accommodating and responsive (which is exactly what you hope for when you're planning a wedding). Our wedding was very DIY and decor-forward, and Laura was so great about scheduling site visits with us so we could plan and take measurements. I could go on and on, but basically: EarthTrek is incredible and I highly recommend working with them at their beautiful venue.

THEREFORE, I searched ALL the YELP! photos I posted: I found a few photos dated 1/5/2019 as PROOF I did write my reviews for both locations. Disappointingly, ALL my photos AND reviews for James Marshall's Monument and Coloma State Park event MYSTERIOUSLY DISAPPEARED AFTER 2019! UNHAPPY! Anyway, in June 2022, I attended a Military Funeral I personally arranged at James Marshall's Monument for my deceased Army friend who passed away plus, instrumentally preventing his family from spending an egregious, heinous sum for funeral expenses, i.e., I contacted the Coloma State Park's Head Supervisor Ranger on my friend's family's behalf. Blessed, the Head Park Ranger Supervisor contacted my friend's family a couple days later who only had to pay $75.00 for reserving James Marshall's Monument location for my friend's Military funeral! The location presided a PRIVATE, dignified, Military funeral which involved the US Army Color Guards who fired off a 21-Gun Salute for my deceased Army friend, ample parking provided for all attending the Military Funeral, conveniently located picnic tables for food/libations setup, and more importantly, an easy, short stroll to James Marshall's Monument where the 21-Gun Salute was presided. My friend's family were so grateful to Coloma State Park's Head Park Ranger Supervisor for allowing presiding a Military funeral which was quite a distance from the Coloma State Park's American River parking lot. Reiterating, reserving the James Marshall's Monument location for my friend's family and all who attended my friend's Military Funeral, it was so PRIVATE, awesome, easy, uncomplicated set up due to the picnic tables for the food and libations were conveniently adjacent to the clean restrooms, and overall, a gorgeous, tranquil, serene, appropriate location presiding a somber, dignified, Military funeral. Finally, presiding a Military Funeral at James Marshall's Monument for my friend's family will always be remembered and revered. Best of all, all who attended my friend's Military funeral have ALL returned exploring James Marshall's Monument--again, James Marshall's log cabin, checking the construction updates for both St. John's Catholic Church and Emmanuel Church, Sutter's Mill, gold panning the American River, sent snail mail from the Coloma Post Office, ate at my friend, Noah's Argonaut Cafe, and hiked all the trails, too! BTW: Since I'm 100% Service-Connected Vietnam Veteran possessing a Veteran's Distinguished Park Pass, reserving James Marshall's Monument would be NO FEE for me!
