It teaches knife skills, safety, and you get to take your fresh fish home and cook a delicious meal with it. They also have a bar inside, of course it is New Orleans, and I got an espresso martini and it was quite good! So great fresh fish and cocktails! The fish class came with two large fish, you got to keep the knife, and learned skills. The lady monger demonstrated on her fish, and then watches you carefully, guiding you to ensure the best technique. There was about 4 people per cutting table and they also required use to wear apron and gloves. Don't feel intimidated because they are right there guiding, ensuring safety. It was a fun unique experience. Even if you know how to gut a fish, you may still learn something new! I have to come back and try some these fresh sandwiches or poboys. The charbroiled oysters again seemed to have been cooking for 3-4 times longer than they should have. They were rubber, flavorless and unappetizing to look at. They were pretty bad. - At least they were clean. I didn't get any shell. But I also didn't get any oyster in 1 of the 6 oysters served at $18. Then we got a Sausage Poboy. The sausage was decent, but the sandwich wasn't good. WHY WOULD YOU TOAST THE BREAD? NO ONE WANTS SAUSAGE BETWEEN TWO CROUTONS. This was actually my first real seafood boil experience, and it was my wife's first seafood boil as well, so we really did not know exactly what to expect. Thankfully, we had Jaden as our waitress, and she was amazing from beginning to end. Having someone willing to help you instead of making you feel like you should already know what you are doing makes a huge difference. We went with the all you can eat special, and when that food started hitting the table, we knew we had made the right decision. There was a ton of food with shrimp, snow crab, blue crab, sausage, corn, potatoes and everything covered in some seriously good seasoning. The seasoning was one of my favorite parts because it had plenty of flavor without taking away from the seafood itself. My favorite was definitely the shrimp. I could have kept eating those by themselves. They were seasoned perfectly, had great flavor, and were easily what I kept going back for. Then we tried the charbroiled oysters. My wife was impressed too, and that says a lot more than my opinion because she grew up eating oysters in New Zealand. If she says the oysters are good, I am listening! Another thing we really appreciated was that we never felt rushed. We sat there for around an hour and 15 minutes eating, cracking crab legs, trying everything, talking, and just enjoying ourselves. Nobody made us feel like they were waiting for us to leave. Jaden continued checking on us and making sure we had everything we needed throughout the meal. And yes, a seafood boil is messy. By the end of it, you know you have been eating! But that is part of the experience. You are cracking shells, dipping seafood, getting seasoning everywhere and enjoying every minute of it. Google said they were open, but when we got there, we found out they were closed and on vacation the week before the 4th of July. I'm not really mad about that but there was nothing on their social media about being closed or away that week. I called a couple of times on our drive over and no one answered but the locals we worked with said this place is hopping during dinner time, we just assumed it was really busy and they couldn't get to the phones. A little better communication would have been appreciated, especially in a city where tourism is such an important industry for them. I'm sure the locals who eat there all the time knew they would be closed that week, but us out of towners did not know. So I'll go right in the middle, three stars as I can't really judge them on their food. However I work in a customer facing field too, and communication with your customer base is key. Prices are cheaper if you pay with cash (they list the price with cash and the price if you are paying with card) so I'd say bring some cash. The crawfish were good as usual and were a nice size. Other things I've had in the past that I enjoyed were the crawfish fettuccini, shrimp poboy, fried fish plate, and potato salad. There is seating available inside but it's not a big place so a big group would probably need to get their food to go. Also this is a pretty popular place especially on Fridays so expect to wait in line or you can call and order your phone ahead of time (which I usually do).

Yelp has this listed more like a restaurant, and it's definitely not. It's where you go to buy the freshest uncooked seafood in the city and then take it home and make beautiful things happen with it. This company has 3 locations in S. Louisiana and each is basically a shipping facility that has a retail store in the front. Everything they carry is the freshest possible and they're happy to sell you a pound or a thousand pounds. The turtle meat, frog legs, and alligator tail are especially good. They also have literally every fish that can be found anywhere. The staff here are just so friendly and accommodating. If they're sold out of something that day, they'll be really nice and hold some of it for you from the next day's catch. If you're in a hurry (or just lazy), they'll even be super nice and boil the crawfish you buy. If you need cooking ideas, they'll always help you out. I've been coming here for as long as I can remember and I've never had a bad experience. Everything is the best quality, fresh, and everyone that works here is so pleasant. The place isn't fancy, but it's extremely clean. Prices aren't dirt cheap, but seafood prices never are. Definitely do your seafood shopping here. I can't possibly recommend Louisiana Seafood Exchange highly enough.
