I don't live in New Orleans but visits quiet a bit. My niece who lives there took us there because to the marinated crabs. Those crabs make you want to slap someone. They run out fast so go early. Our stop was straight from the airport to get them. The sauce is so flavorful. They need to sell it by the jar. The pasta salad is very good also. This is another item goes really fast get it right away. Service is the best always greets you with a smile. I love the sign that says No service to you while on the cell phone. Right, do one thing at a time. How are you going to place an order talking on the phone. This place other customers to deal with. Ambiance, this is small no place to sit, standing room only. Currently my favorite place for a shrimp poboy. I love that their bread is nice and soft, not too crumbly. The shrimp are fried to perfection and seasoned well. They offer a number of seafood options, as will as some fresh seafood options. The service is always nice and friendly. I like to call my order ahead of time to avoid the wait. The area isn't that big and can become crowded depending on the number of people. Located in Gentilly on Mirabeau and St. Anthony, it has been a staple in the area for decades. Prices were doubled from the menu I saw online. My husband got a trio plate I got 1/2 n 1/2 catfish shrimp. Can get equal/ better quality at a bodega or comer store for better value per dollar. Crabby thing was good but not very pretty. No eat in option. No inclination on the part of the employees to provide customer service. They are a fish market too. Likely wouldn't return. Came out from Kenner area, breads spectacular, roast beef was great, havnt been here in a long time, price is never an issue, but when you pay 17 for a 10 inch roast beef you hope to get a hefty portion of ROAST BEEF, but I felt like the portion was under portioned. My first "authentic" Po'Boy experience in New Orleans. I had a shrimp po'boy and to be honest, it was underwhelming. I think my expectations may have been too high. I wanted more flavor; it was just fried shrimp inside of delicious, soft french bread. The remoulade had flavor but there wasn't much nor was it evenly distributed across the sandwich. My favorite, local, neighborhood spot for the best, authentic nola seafood. They always have the best, FRESH seafood to choose from - love their boiled crabs, fresh shrimp for my Nola dishes. The best hands down boiled crawfish during the season (in my opinion ) - you can taste all the spices and ingredients. When you can get them you should try their marinated crab claws. First let me say that I am on a diet and have not eaten all day. So really anything would've tasted good to me ar this point .I got off of work and wanted to treat myself with a Zimmer's Poboy which I've had many times always very good today. They told me it would be a 20 minute wait. I arrived a few minutes early. About 15 minutes after I called and ordered. The shrimp were so old dark you could tell they had been sitting there for a very long time. Why tell me to come in 20 minutes when you were gonna serve old shrimp anyway so disappointing I think this has ruined Zimmers for me forever. read more

I rounded up to 3 stars from 2.5, for sentimental reasons. I hadn't been here for a few years, and previously loved the food, but today I paid $17.95 for a very small and very mediocre shrimp po-boy. Starting from the outside, they don't use real po-boy bread anymore -- it was more like what they might sell as po-boy bread in Atlanta or something. With sesame seeds on top. The shrimp had a decent flavor, but they were overcooked and except for a few strays, THE SHRIMP WERE ONE LAYER THICK. By far the skimpiest po-boy I've ever had, and I'm a 7th Ward born-and-raised New Orleanian of a certain age. What happened? I know prices have gone up for everyone, but there's no way I'll buy another sandwich here. Sad and disappointing. read more

This is a very small neighborhood place where you order at the counter and take it to go. Parking lot on the side and in front of the restaurant. The staff was very friendly. I was quite surprised by the prices - just as high as anywhere else in New Orleans. We had the shrimp poboy, crab cake poboy, and roast beef poboy. The crab cake poboy was all stuffing and no crab. The fried shrimp were chewy and not fresh/crisp. The roast beef poboy was good. The bread didn't taste fresh and had sesame seeds on it (and they are literally next to a bread bakery). I used to love this place when we first tried it. However, the fried oyster poboy I got during my most recent trip still had pieces of oyster shells in it! I was very disappointed when I took a bite and almost chipped a tooth! The cooks at this place need to do a better job in extracting the oysters from their shells or else it may end up a lawsuit! Other than that incident, the rest of my poboy was okay. It seemed a little dry than normal; it needed more remoulade. Also, after having Parkway's poboys, I am no longer a fan of the bread that Zimmers' uses. It didn't have that nice crunch I longed for. Overall, this place is not bad if you're going for the size of the poboy, but they've jacked up their prices and now I don't think it's worth going to anymore. read more

I discovered this neighborhood gem from a story in the online edition of the Times Picayune newspaper. Todd Price wrote how Charleen and Craig Zimmer have run the shop since 1980 and how it is hugely popular among locals. The shop is known for its fried crab poboys and for its boiled crafwish, so we ordered a couple of the poboys, outfitted with bread from the John Gendusa around the corner, the company that provided the bread for the original New Orleans poboys. Both the sandwiches and the crawfish were excellent. The staff was friendly despite the crowd of customers that came into the takeout shop. read more

The food and atmosphere at the Vault Restaurant was amazing I recommend that everyone try this restaurant. I read some reviews and decided to come on down for a shrimp po boy. I walked in and placed an order for a regular shrimp po boy. I got it dressed with ketchup and hot sauce and no mayo. Total was about $6.00 and I got a Coke out of the vending machine. The po boy was decent sized. About a 6 incher. They use Gendusas bread which is a bakery located right around the corner. Its a seeded loaf and it was pretty decent. They use large shrimp and coat them in a thin batter. The taste was ok. I thought that I would absolutely love po boys but I am coming to find out that they are just ok. There is nowhere to eat in the place so I ate on the trunk of my car across the street.
