I arrived at the at American Smog at 6:20pm. The gentlemen who was smogging a car asked me if I needed my car smogged? I replied yes I do. He then told me that it was after 6:00 o'clock and he didn't accept cars after 6:00pm. I told him that there isn't anything that says he doesn't take cars after 6:00 on his website. His response was it clearly states that. What it actually says is it is recommended that you come before 6:00. When I brought this to his attention, his response was well what if I don't have any cars at 6:00 to smog? Say What? So if I had come after 6:00 and he didn't have any cars he would have seen me? But since he had one car it was screw you. It takes a lot for me to post a negative review. It hurts businesses and I don't do it often when I receive bad service. This young man did not want to work 1 minute passed 7:00 and did not care that I had just gotten off from work and found the one smog center that claimed it stayed open until 7:00. Visited this shop for the first time to smog my Mini Cooper after finding it on Google. On first impression, the shop is clean and well kept. They are even thoughtful enough to have toys for younger children in the lobby area to keep them occupied during your smog which any parent will tell you is a true life-saver. Neil was amazingly professional and friendly before, during and after my test. Moments after pulling up, he addressed me directly to let me know an approximate wait time (even while busy smoging another car), as well as how many cars were before me. Normally at other shops, you're simply ignored until you walk into the lobby. During my visual inspection he discovered something that needed fixing and instead of charging me to come back for a re-test, he was kind enough to not only let me know about it but also give me instructions on how to fix it easily. Mind you, Neil had no idea if I would actually return to give his shop the business after fixing which means that would be money out of his pocket and livelihood. This shows incredible integrity not only as a shop but a person in general. He isn't out to take your money and make a "quick buck", he really understands what it means to build customer trust with true customer service. We love taking our cars here. If you ever need your car to get a smog take it here. Fast friendly service and the owner is very knowledgeable in vehicles. He is in a hidden building behind the Alan Whitt Park. Nice cooled waiting area and there is kid stuff to play with and a TV to watch the news while you wait. There are magazines and cell phone signal is pretty good. When you come here it's clean and relaxing not too much clutter and when he completes he will give you his feedback and things to consider but it's all friendly recommendations. These guys are great! When most of us go to get any type of maintenance done on our cars, we tend to think "how are these guys going to try and $#%^ me today?". These guys are completely honest and will try to get you in and out the door quickly and without issue. They ran the OBDII on my truck and noticed it was indicating several issues but the check engine light didn't come on. They noted that the light was either disconnected or burnt out. This was an automatic fail before even putting it on the rollers. The guys didn't charge me and when I came back and fixed the lights and reset the codes, went through the "pre-test" again. They could have easily just taken the keys from me, found the light issue and failed me and charged me. However, knowing it was a quick fix and they would likely get my business in the future, they made an investment in building a relationship with their customer that will pay off when I tell everyone I know to go to their shop. These folks give cars smog checks. That's all, nothing else. They do it super-fast ("Hi M'am, I'll be with you in eight minutes!) and have *great* prices. I had seen a coupon on the web for $29.95, but my printer is out...they were going to honor it. However, when the gentleman was about to run the check, he did a quick diagnostic first, and told me that my car wouldn't pass smog. He explained why, what steps I should think about taking in going to a mechanic, and what I should do before returning to him for my smog certificate. He was *SO* honest--he knew it wouldn't pass the test, so he told me not to bother. "Put that $30 to your repairs, M'am!" And I'm doing just that. I'll be seeing you guys again in a month! read more

Been coming here for around 5 years and finally got around to giving them a review. always enjoyed their fast, friendly service and the very reasonable prices. But the last visit deserves higher praise. We brought my girlfriends son's 98 Civic in and was informed that it failed. But they didn't charge for the test. Instead they offered suggestions on what might have caused it. Took the car to my mechanic and relayed what American Smog told us. The following week returned and it passed. Again they only charged for a single test and certificate. Saved us $30 and for that we are grateful. read more

My time is valuable. I chose this business because it states that it's hours start at 7:30AM. That is a good business strategy, because many people need to get to work early in the morning. The guy that owns the Grand Sport was very friendly and competent, but he was late. A business's hours are advertised and the employees are payed based on their business hours. They have comfy chairs and plenty of publications to read if your cell phone is dead. No coffee so bring your own ya freeloader! I been going to this company for the past decade and never regretted it. They are professional, fast, and a great price ($40). You hear a lot about supporting small businesses, well this is a family small business. The owner does keep his shop small to keep his prices low. He is a cool family man.
