We are from Georgia but our daughter is going to school in the area. Her car started shaking violently when she was driving and so she pulled into a parking lot and called me in Georgia to see if I knew what it was. From what she was describing to me it sounded like she was having transmission problems. Not what you want to hear when your daughter is 1000 miles away from you!! I ended up looking on line and came across American Transmission In Garden City. I called and spoke to Donny, who was absolutely a god send to talk to! I explained what she had told me and that she's going to school there and we're in Georgia. He said not to worry he'll take care of her. He had it towed to the shop and called with what he found. Long story short,,he called me everyday and gave me an update on what was happening. Put me right at ease! He got the car done and fixed for a price I was very happy with!! I have a 1972 Buick GS with a 400TH transmission that had failed and had several issues with it. Through Gail, Donnie and the rest of the staff at American Transmissions in Garden City, they were able to source the parts needed, rebuild the transmission better than when GM built it originally, and turn it around in much quicker time than I thought possible. I repeat DO NOT TAKE YOUR VEHICLE HERE. Took my truck in for transfer case replacement, had it for over 6 weeks. Got in back and brakes were all messed up, transfer case started leaking on the drive home and they said it was normal. Ended up bringing the truck there 4 times after for them to "fix" it and all they did was slapped JB weld on it after they over torqued and broke the bolt. Never fixed after paying thousands of dollars and clearly don't back their warranty. Keith the service writer is the most arrogant, lazy, unprofessional person I have ever dealt with. Would sit in the back office while people were waiting so he could finish his cigarette and yell across the room. DO NOT TRUST THESE PEOPLE! read more

Not pleased at all. I took my truck to this shop almost 4 years ago. I had my trans done and my rear end done 4 years later and not even 20,000 miles my trans is going out again. Too many excuses had been made and I have spent more that 3,000 at this shop and cannot drive my car. I will never deal with this company ever again or at least this location. So I have got my Blazer back now for about a week now. I had a transmission rebuilt and control arms fixed. I did some research before I even started fixing it. American Transmission kept coming up. I have heard from a few people about this shop and good experiences they have had. So I decided to take it here. I am glad I did. Not only where they very helpful and offering to come pick my vehicle up but they made sure I understood everything that needed to be fixed. They make sure I was kept up to date on the progress of my car and how long it would take. They took car of me. You know you always think transmissions shops are out to get you. This one will not. The prices were very reasonable, there is even a coupon online. The new management was professional and made sure I knew what I was getting into. The mechanics was awesome. Not only did they go that extra mile and fixed my exhaust leaked. He made sure that my car was back to 100% before giving it back to me. They showed me the old parts and how bad they were. They even told me what to look out for in the future. I have already told a few people about how good this place is. Definitely going back here if I need anything else done. A+ in my book. read more

Watch out for all the hidden charges. I ask for a quote to fix my transmission and when I decided to have the work done somewhere else they doubled the quote and held my car hostage until I paid it. I only gave them 1 star because you can't give them zero or negative stars. read more

Save your time and money and go elsewhere! 0 stars! We told American Transmissions in Garden City Michigan that we thought our engine was having issues. The guy told us to apply for their credit card, so we did. He said it would take a week and a half to get the engine and to have the car fixed. We called a few days later to ask exactly what was going on with the engine. He kept telling us the guy who does the engine work has 2 jobs he's not sure call back tomorrow. He never told us what was wrong after several attempts to find out. We drove by and our car was still in the same spot. They never looked at it. It was in an odd spot because it was pushed there. Over 2 weeks go by and I go up there to tell them it's costing us too much money to rent a car and that I'm getting it towed. I get a hard time from them because they say they have the engine, which it wasn't even the engine for the car. Finally they agree to let me take it and they lost the keys!! Took them 45 mins to find them bc they were labeled wrong! After all this trouble I think I'm done dealing with them but no.... THEY CHARGE THE CREDIT CARD THEY TOLD US TO APPLY FOR...$2500 TO BE EXACT They actually charged this once it was approved. No services were rendered. I am filing a police report and have already contacted the fraud department for the card. I don't think the actual owner is aware of what is going on. I met her the day I towed my car. The man in there however was the one who told us to sign up for the card and I don't know how he got the card information but I never gave it to him. PLEASE DO NOT take your business here. read more

My vehicles warranty company sent me to American Transmissions. Before the vehicle was towed into them I called, described the problem and was told it would be no problem for them. My vehicle was towed into them on 3/17/15 the vehicle was not ready to be picked up until 3/31/15. It took them 15 days to figure out and fix a fuel pump. My phone calls were rarely returned and when I would call them I was given "it'll be ready tomorrow" The work appears to be fine, however the length of time for it to be completed and the horrible customer service would keep me from returning or referring anyone to this shop. read more

"Great Price, Poor Service" I normally only leave 5 star feedback. when I left the shop after getting a rebuilt transmission. I couldn't help but realize my truck was making a really bad noise, so right away I called Donnie, he instructed me to put a few miles on it and come back in a few days prior to telling me to come back for a 10 check up. So gave it the "10 days or less check up". I thought everything was ok. I just changed out my front drive axle. When I was under my car I realized one of my transmission bolts was literally they just started to treaded it on, with 3/4" of thread not even totally threaded on where the transmission bolts to the motor and the opposite side they didn't even bother to put in the bolt, so I got to get one at the junk yard now. I have no idea what they look for or at if they missed it twice for my 10 day check up? When I took out my bolts to replace my front drive shaft a few bolts were tight, some were loose and they stripped a bolt head, which its a harden bolt, so it took hours to get it out. It was like they only did what bolts were convenient to reach in the lifted fixed position. I was going to get my yearly trans oil/ and filters changed there, but after seeing the poor quality as a mechanics work I'll go some place else. I hope this helps other people. thanks read more
