I have had an extremely frustrating and unacceptable experience with American Water Resources. I have been without water since last Tuesday due to a leak at the curb. I pay for American Water Resources' water repair service and promptly filed a claim. A contractor came out last week to assess the issue. When I followed up a few days later, I was told my water would not be restored until December 31st, which is an unreasonable amount of time to be without basic service. After additional calls, American Water Resources sent a second contractor, who came out on Monday but provided no information at all about when repairs would actually take place. Since then, I have been bounced back and forth between customer service, the repair department, and the contractor, with each saying the problem is someone else's responsibility. No one has taken ownership or provided a clear timeline. This situation is especially concerning because I am elderly, have Muscular Sclerosis, and have tenants living in the building. My heat runs on a boiler system that requires water, so I have had to turn the heat down to conserve water and avoid losing heat entirely. This is a serious health and safety issue. Over the past two weeks, I have spoken only with customer service representatives. Despite repeated requests, I was never allowed to speak with a supervisor or manager. I was told multiple times that my case would be escalated, but nothing has changed. I pay for this repair coverage specifically to avoid situations like this, yet I have been left without water, without answers, and without support. My protection plan started at $16.99/month in September of 2021 for all three plans (sewer line, water line, & in home plumbing). The current rate we have been paying is $30.99/month. When we called to make a claim on a broken water drain pipe they denied the claim as they only cover blockages and not breaks on water drain lines. Their policy was created to only cover the least expensive pipe issues. When they sell you the plan, they make it sound like you are fully covered with any pipe issues. To contact the company to file a claim, you must speak with an outsourced employee from a different county. Living in CA, by law they were required to have me speak with someone in the U.S. The foreign employee has to email someone in the U.S. to return my call. Half of the time, I did not receive a call back. It was exhausting attempting to get ahold of the company the many times I needed to speak to them regarding my claim. They will not give you a direct phone number. They make you go through the call/email/wait for a call back process every time. Since my claim was denied, I am entitled to a refund of the $50 service fee I paid for the inspection. I once again have to contact them through the phone/email process and after multiple attempts, have not received a call back. It is hard to understand why a customer cannot have direct contact with an employee that can help, especially if you have an emergency plumbing situation that requires immediate attention. It has been two weeks and I still have not received the refund or spoken with anyone that can address the refund issue. This company and its policies are garbage and not worth the headache. We have been dealing with a water line issue and have been calling since March 4th.....one excuse after the other about getting their contractor scheduled. Then dealing with their assigned contractor is a whole other issue. Unanswered calls, no return calls and you never talk to the same person twice. And, sadly, only one or two of the 10 people I've spoken to on both sides that I could understand. I had a major water leak at my hose bib, lost 9k gallons of water. They couldn't even get someone out within 24 hours. They aporoved me to use my own plumber due to the inconvenience. Wow!! What a horrible company to deal with! Clear, consice English speaking representatives are very hard to come by. I have been paying about $50 per month for water line and sewage line protection. I made a call to them on 8/11/25. I was very specific on what I needed fixed, my pressure reduction valve. I was told my contracts cover leaks and breakes. Again, I told him (can't remember his name) the pressure relief valve was broken. I was told the that I needed to pay an additional $50 for the service person to be dispatched. WTF? After I paid the additional $50. Someone was in fact sent out, only to tell me that it was not covered. Seriously? If you are thinking of getting this sevice from American Water Supply, dont! If you do have it you may want to seriously consider canceling it, as your problem probably won't be covered for one reason or another. The story is actually much more involved, but im not sure what my limitations are. Is it possible to give a negative star? Sorry I can't, in good conscience give this company even one star. If I could give zero stars I would. DO NOT get sewer, plumbing or waterline insurance from this company. My husband and I signed up for their Water Line, Sewer Line and In-Home Plumbing Emergency Program in May 2024. We repeatedly asked them to email our policy with all the terms and conditions. They never sent it. Since May we have been unable to login to their website. Each time we ask about it they say they are having technical issues and their IT department is working to fix it. You can sign up no problem but you can't login to your account for 6 months. Now we have a plumbing issue with our heater. You can't contact them by phone because the recorded message says the hold time is 20 hours. We used chat to speak with an agent to file a claim. We sent pictures of the issue and they determined it was covered. They said they would dispatch a plumber and that our fee (or deductible) would be $50. We were told that IF the plumber determined that the issue was not covered, we would be refunded the $50. The plumber came out and told us our leak is not covered and further shocked us by saying this company repeatedly charges their customers $50 service fees fully knowing that that issue is not covered. They just scam you for $50 and don't fix the problem. Since we never received our policy we were not aware that they even charge to send a technician. When we reached out for a refund we were told that the claims agent who filed our claim gave us false information and that the $50 is non-refundable. They wanted to send a different plumber for a second opinion and charge us another $50. What a scam! We immediately canceled our policy and hope they don't charge our credit card next month for the monthly premium. If they do we'll have to dispute it. AWR (Encore Home Solutions?) is hard to reach and deal with. Their customer service (staffed in Brazil?) seem to be trained to speak slowly and waste time. The company they sent to fix the problem in PA, Hartmann & Sons are incompetent and dishonest. They failed to repair a leak in Feb 2025. When asked to fix the leak again, they demanded between $3k to $6k for excavation work. A different plumber was called in around Nov 2025. They found that the broken connector had not been repaired or replaced. Total Plumbing replaced the part and did not need to excavate any further. Kudos to Total Plumbing. read more

On February 4, 2026, filed a claim with AWR for my furnace. I am located in Maryland & the repair was assigned to Keepe Up Washington State (on the west coast).They assigned a local contractor who came out on February 6.. Once the diagnosis was received (took 3 days) , AWR agreed to cover the repair.The tech was scheduled to do the repair on February 13. I took off work & he didn't show up or call.I called Keepe & AWR for answers & nobody could get in touch with the technician.On February 17, I was told by Keepe that the part had not arrived & the tech couldn't do the installation. I called AWR & asked that a new technician be assigned & since we knew what the diagnosis was, to have him get the part & schedule installation Instead, Keepe assigned a different company who sent out a technician to rediagnose the problem.The new technician came up with a list of parts needed, totaling $1856.21 of which AWR declined to cover because the technician stated that the unit was more than 10 years old & was maintained insufficiently.I called AWR to speak with them about this & was told that they covered $2K of the repair & that this was the balance & that they only cover wear/tear items.I asked to speak with a supervisor& while waiting I called Keepe & was told that the total of the job was on the invoice, there wasn't an additional $2K, so this was a lie. The supervisor (Ali) couldn't tell me why the rep. lied, but stated that they were not covering the repair because of the notes regarding the age & insufficient maintenance.I told her that there was no stipulation about the age of the unit. I also stated that "insufficient maintenance" is a matter of opinion.The tech provided no pictures or specific details about what he meant by "insufficient maintenance", but AWR still refused to cover the repair. I contacted American Water to start a claim because my tub and sink were backing up. First of all, the ridiculous amount of questions they ask just to get some one out to your house. Like some else mentioned, it's someone from another country on the phone reading from a script and speaking very slowly. I feel like they have check boxes, if the customer says this, check this, then ask this, if they say this.... It's a freaking sham. Anyway, I discovered that I have the basic plan which only covers clogs, and leaks and blah, blah, blah.. But they wouldn't snake my tub because they said that I have a leak which is related to the fixtures. However, they could clearly see that the fixtures but they could see that the pipes were newly replaced. What does the on and off knobs faucet have to do with a clogged drain? The same thing goes for the kitchen sink. New fixtures, and new plumbing, but they can't work on the drain. This is a darn mess. I have a good mind to cancel the whole thing. If you think about it, $30.99 a month times 12 is almost $400. 00 bucks a year. I believe I can call Roto Rooter for less. They've only done extensive work on my home one time in 15 years. Do not purchase this insurance, you will not be happy with it. I filed a claim for a plumbing problem and it was a terrible experience. First there were many problems scheduling, and it took about a week for an initial visit just to evaluate the problem. Imagine if your sewer line was backed up and you couldn't flush your toilet for a week and if you called another plumber, you would have to pay for it yourself after shelling out for the insurance. Then I found out that they don't have any good contractors. Nobody wants to work with them. There were only two in my major metropolitan area and one declined the job repeatedly. The other was unqualified to perform the work. Then they say that they will find you another contractor. But they can't do that and they offer you a small reimbursement payment so you can find your own contractor. Now it's two weeks later and your problem is not fixed. The reimbursement check does not come for another month. Do yourself a favor and be self insured. I don't know how this company continues to operate. This is the worst experience I think I have ever had with a company. I am on the auto pay option for my monthly payments, and for some reason whenever the payments come out, it shows unpaid on my account. My water has been disconnected twice even though I have paid. The people I talk to you on the phone are always rude and the people that I talk to in person are the same. They always chalk it up to a problem with my bank but the payment goes through fine so it's obviously on their end. I have been checking my account leading up to my auto pay charge to make sure everything was correct And was told that no actions were needed and everything was fine. The rep upgraded my plan with the same current rate and I was told that I would get a refund in 30 days since I was paying the same period twice. I called them 4 times within 30 days and was told to wait for the refund. When I made the 5th phone call, I was told there was no refund. They scammed me for an extra month of payment and kept making me wait for a refund that was not going to be given so I got charged for another month again. If I knew they were dishonest, I would have never agreed to upgrade the plan. Who would want to pay twice for the same month? The rep from the 5th call offered me the refund but asked me to wait for one to two billing cycles again. They called and spoke with a representative and told her to not renew the warranty they had already paid for. AMW did renew and charge their bank account for a full year. I spent over an hour on the phone trying to get a refund and it still is not resolved. The customer service rep was polite, but had no ability to do anything - she had to send an internal email to request a refund and is unable to tell me when that email would even be answered. Trying to get copies of work done on my property from 2020 (selling property). They give me the run around....saying I never had coverage, to wrong phone numbers to call, or wrong emails to write. I've purchased this companies insurance for over a year now. They recently auto-renewed me with a new price which is more than 50% increase than my last year fee. And over the weekend, my home had a sewer clogging issue. So I called them on Sunday afternoon, however, the customer service told me the next level of service agent will call me for my request. On 6/10 7:40am, service agent called me, and created another level of request for service, promised me that the actual service contractor provider will call me, but estimated time to call is undefined. I waited and waited... nobody called me. My sewers are still clogged, without even an appointment for the actual fix; on 6/11 11:00am, I called the customer service again, they said to write email to service agent to push the case. Called them to find out they won't send someone out until Wednesday. I'm an elderly woman living alone with health issues. Its unacceptable to ho without bathroom use for 4 days, to not be able to wash dishes, take a shower or flush the toilet. Update 8/31/2022: Service was performed by Drain Doctors at 8 a.m. on 8/31. The owner confirmed that he received the claim at 4:58 p.m. When I was contacted by an employee at AWR, she was nearly screaming at me on the phone when I asked for clear guidance on what I should expect when opening a claim. Overall, if you have time and patience to deal with AWR, it is a worthwhile service. When things work with them, it is good. When things aren't good with AWR, you will spend a considerable amount of time working the phone. Document everything and don't get off the phone until you have confirmation that a contractor has been contacted. Here's the original post: We've had four claims with American Water Resources within 2.5 years. The first claim took four days to address a clogged main sewer line. While I understand that it can take time to get a contractor out, they are unable to effectively communicate, with different people providing conflicting info throughout the ordeal. The next two claims were handled quickly and without issue. I didn't give it much thought afterward, until I had to file another claim due to the same, repeat issue (clogged sewer line with tree roots). I opened a claim on 8/30 at 7:16 a.m. EST. I initiated a live chat with AWR at 1:16 p.m. EST to check on the status of the claim. The AWR rep told me to call the contractor. I called the contractor who quickly told me that they had not received the claim, that this often happens with AWR and to tell AWR that they are not a contracted contractor. I reached back out to AWR via live chat and shared this info. I was told three very different things: 1) The claim was sent to the contractor. 2) They were waiting for the claim to process. 3) There was a backlog of claims and I had to wait. I called AWR back and was told by the customer service representative that the claim had not been sent to contractor. While on the call with AWR, I added the contractor, Drain Doctors, to the conversation. The manager at Drain Doctors confirmed that nothing was received. The AWR claims specialist told me that the live chat person is in a separate group and that they had no idea why I was told to call Drain Doctors at 1:16 p.m. When things work well with AWR, they work well. Regretfully when things fail, you are left with little recourse. We will have to get a hotel for the evening since we are unable to run water in the house without the sewer backing up into the basement. AWR's terms and conditions don't provide guarantees for turnaround time and explicitly state that they have no liabilities for their failure. Here's the exact language from the contract: 27. What Liability Does AWR Have? Replacing seven electrical outlets. They did not do the work. My mother paid AWR for two policies for years-an interior electrical policy, and a policy on interior pipes. She never made a claim on either. She passed away earlier this year and I continued the policies because I thought they might be very helpful if needed. As it turns out seven electrical outlets have become so loose that plugs will not stay in them. I called to see if a repair was covered under my policy and was told it was, and that they would set up an appointment for a technician to come out for the repairs. I never spoke to a human being, all communication came in the form of text messages. You could not get a real person on the phone. Finally the day came and the technician came out. He said he could certainly fix the outlets, but he had to text pictures of the problem back to whoever,(he said he never talked to a human either) and they would tell him if he could go ahead with it. We waited quite a while and finally he said he wasn't going to keep me any longer, just to give him a call when I heard from AWR. The next day when I came home for lunch I had a message on my answering machine from AWR (at last a human voice!). What they said was that they did not consider the issue with the outlets a covered repair. They just said the outlets were old and they did not cover that. I immediately called the number back that was on my phone and canceled both my policies. My house is an older one, so I am assuming that if they wouldn't cover the outlets because they were old, they probably wouldn't cover anything and it was a total waste of money. What's sad, is that while I was setting up the service appointment in the beginning, they tried to sell me another policy on my HVAC system. I told them I wanted to see how this appointment went before signing up for that. Good thing I did! Then today I got a text message saying that they were going to cover the repair after all. The only problem was that they were going to pay $109 and the balance of over $600 was my responsibility. My advice to anyone considering a contract of any kind with this company is to run as fast and as far away from them as you can, because they are a complete scam. read more

I contacted American Water Resources 3 times to ask if it was acceptable for me to replace the water heater warranty in my home and be reimbursed for the replacement under my American Water Resources warranty contract. They said yes all 3 times and that the reimbursement would take about 2 weeks after the claim is filed. I filed a home warranty claim for my water heater on 9/21/2025 They never responded. I contacted them on 10/13/2025 and they said they never received the claim. I was told to resubmit the claim. After a lot of back and forward, the claim was approved on 10/21/2025. I have not received my reimbursement as of 11/10/2025 almost 2 months after I initially filed the claim. The last time I spoke to the American Water Resources, they told me the payment could take another 30 days. This is totally unacceptable. They had not heard anything from AWS and had planned to come to my home the next day. *STRIKE #2* 7/26, Friday: I call AWS at 9am to inquire about the reassignment. The rep tells me that they can't commit to timing for when a new plumber will be reassigned. "It can take weeks." I complain that this is different from what I was previously told and that I submitted the claim weeks before. The rep promises to call me back with a status update no later than 3:30pm that same day. *STRIKE #3* 7/29, Monday: I call AWS to say that I am still waiting for reassignment and ask to speak to a manager. The rep tells me that there is no escalation department on Mondays. I later find out this is a lie. *STRIKE* 8/5, Monday: I call ask to be transferred to the escalation department. They say ok and put me on hold. My total call time was 38mins before I was disconnected and not transferred to an escalation department. *STRIKE* 8/8: I call to complain and the rep says the reassignment never happened *STRIKE* and that it will be easier to just open a new claim. 8/9: The new plumber shows up, I am happy with his customer service. I don't know how this company is still in business. The only response customer service ever gives is somebody will call you in three days. Nobody calls in three days. Nobody knows anything. Everybody directs you to the Internet to submit something online that you never get a response from. I've been looking to start service at a home that I'm building and have called for two months at least three times a week to follow up. They don't give direct phone numbers to local offices. They say that the local office will call you back. No one does.I'd rather pay for a well than to hook up with American water. I can only imagine how difficult and frustrating it will be to have continuous service From them. Stay away from this?company!!! They are a complete scam. When you call them your call goes to a call center in another country with horrible background noise. You have to wait 15-20 minutes on hold each time you call and believe me you will have to call them multiple times. But don't take my word for it call their support number (866)618-3893 and see for yourself. By the way this is the number you have to call for every inquiry or service you may need from these scammers. I called them to have a plumber come out to my house, they tell me that since my home is in California, they need to "email" my local agent who will call me. They do not provide you with any kind of contact information for your local agent and you just have to take their word that someone will call you back. So just keep in mind calling their direct number does absolutely nothing. So I give them my phone number and wait for a call from my local agent who ever that is supposed to be. Well, guess what no one has called me. I have called this company back multiple times been on hold for a total time of 2 hours and each time I call I get the same response.your local agent will call you. This has been going on for 4 days and I have had NO ONE CALL ME BACK! I have asked to talk to a manager, been put on hold for 15 minutes then hung up on. I say again STAY AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY! They have been taking my money every year and have wasted hours of my time and still haven't gotten an agent who can help contact me! I am reporting this company to the Better Business Bureau as soon as I finish this review. I have reported them to the better businesses bureau and also reporting them to the FTC these scammers cannot be allowed to get away with stealing peoples money. I've been a paying customer of this company for over 3 years, enrolled in their IN-HOME PLUMBING PLUS PROGRAM, thinking I was covered for plumbing issues, but my recent experience has been a nightmare. I called for help with a simple bathtub clog, and during the visit, they broke a pipe -- and then told me the damage isn't covered, even though it happened during their service. Now I'm being told I need to pay over $5,000 to repair something they caused, and to make matters worse, water is leaking from the bathroom into my kitchen ceiling and all the way down to the basement. They refuse to take any responsibility. This company is a total scam -- their plumbing program is worthless, and their service has caused me more stress and expense than I ever expected. They've sent out two different third-party plumbing companies who were completely unprofessional and had no idea what they were doing.
