Heard all about this place from fellow Bulldogs that I work with at UGA and I cannot say really anything good about this place. All bartenders were not interested in doing any service to customers except one female bartender/server that came by and had a great personality and was funny and personable. Had an empty beer glass with the person with me get picked up, with zero question whether he wanted another. All except female were too busy at the end of the bar having a conversation to get us anything. We finally were the only 2 in the bar at 7:45 PM on a Saturday night, and the fastest they moved was when we gave up and asked for the check. Definitely a fantastic NY Rangers bar with a huge following. The Rangers were on the road for their playoff game and you would have thought it was pregame for the Rangers at the Garden. Great vibes. American Whiskey, woohoo! I never knew there were so many bourbon and whiskeys in one venue. I swear they have like 28 different brands of Rye. The food is definitely slept on here - the panko crusted chicken tenders are probably the best I've had in NYC because they're extra extra extra crunchy. They totally perfected that crunch factor while keeping the meat piping hot and moist in my opinion. Idk what the dipping sauce was but it was super sweet and spicy and automatically comes with it. Get those tenders on top of their kale Caesar and order the specialty cocktail called "Strike Me Dead" and you are SET! I get this exact combination every time but need to deviate soon and try new things. There's also a huge upstairs "loft" area with another bar. Private parties probably? This place is a nice spot to meet up with people near-ish to Penn Station. The ambience is nice and you're pleasantly greeted at the front door. It's good for groups or just the two of you. Plenty of TVs playing that days sports and a good draft list. Why they didn't get 5-stars: Price: Be ready to pay a lot here. The value is not equal to the portion size and the food is OKAY. We were excited for the cheese curb bites, but they arrived slightly hot and not very crispy. This is a decent sized bar with upstairs space available for private parties. It's a sports bar, but has a bit of charm to it. I came for a group event. We reserved two tables opposite the bar. Servers were helpful and attentive. They accommodated individual tabs and bills for guests, which was very appreciated. Their sweet potato fries were perfectly airy and crispy. Definitely a hit with our group. I didn't try the sliders, but folks seemed to enjoy those as well. The mini grilled cheese sandwiches had a nice, slightly crunchy top layer. They provided carafes of water for easy refills. We over-ordered and they gave us plenty of to-go containers and bags so the food didn't go to waste. On a Tuesday, it was initially a bit crowded with pre-gamers for the Rangers game at nearby MSG, but it cleared out quickly around 7. Oh, the place is nice enough, a combination cowboy/sports bar but the protein puck stealthily disguised as a cheeseburger might have been extremely useful on the Rangers power play later in the evening. It's NYC so the overpay is not nearly as frustrating as waiting nearly an hour for any whiff of our order tied to a payment kiosk where gratuities start at an absolute 20%. I can't say much about this bar as I was here for a party in the upstairs private section. But what I will say is that there are many tvs in this bar, high ceilings and many tables to choose from. The downstairs bar is also big. When I walked in it was not crowded at all which is a bit strange as there was a Rangers game going on. Decided to meet a friend here prior to a Knicks game. It's in a great location for that and the staff was so kind. I arrived solo and it was tough to get seating, but the lady at front quickly cleaned out some chairs for me and my friend. Went here on Friday night BEFORE the Rangers game. I have to say pre-game and post-game here is like before and after pics when a girl does her makeup to impress. Pregame means it will not be crowded, there will be places to sit and you can place your order rather quickly and get service rather quickly and the music isn't too loud so you can hear your friends just fine when they speak. Post game crowd means the opposite of course ‍ Throughout the night the staff was nice and respectful. Stopped in w/o reservation at 4:30 on a Thursday for a farewell shindig with about 15 peeps. Enjoyed the cove areas that allow you to have a semi private area for larger groups. I have a few requirements for a whiskey bar. The selection is a pretty obvious first one. That will get me there at least once, maybe a few more times. But to get me back regularly, I like to see a bit more. That includes a comfortable and relaxing atmosphere, and a wait staff that can talk to you about things beyond just the facts about what you're currently drinking. Those are things that makes American Whiskey so appealing to me. Of the places in the area I've been so far (and admittedly, it's still a short but growing list), I wouldn't necessarily put it at the top in terms of size of inventory, or cost, but it's definitely on the podium in all categories, including fun, which I also consider a requirement - why go if you aren't enjoying yourself? I didn't sample any food here. I'm sure it's fine. That's not why I came here. I was able to chat with my server about what I did and didn't like about my pours that evening, as well as whiskey and beer experiences in Dutchess County, where I live. Then there's those stairs down to the rest rooms... I kind of felt like once I got down there, if there was a window to look out, I might see a #7 train going by. Don't have too many samples in you as you navigate down them. My first visit here was really satisfying. I predict more in the future when I'm back in Manhattan. read more

Decent little spot. The bartender we had was awesome. She let us taste their own Makers Mark blend before buying and made my wife a custom drink which she loved. I ended up having it as well as a neat whisky drink. For food, I got the Short Rib sandwich as recommended and while it was good, it was luke warm at best and not a good pairing of ingredients. It had a non-existent salsa verde that was essentially just a few onions and jalapeños & cilantro that just didn't pair with the meat. Not sure how any of that goes together to be honest. I ended up eating the short rib by itself but again, it was borderline cold. Not the best. The tater tots were bomb, as expected and the grilled cheese was also solid. Came into this midtown spot on a whim with a group of people. I was a bit apprehensive because NO ONE was in there, but then again it was a Sunday in the early afternoon hours. We walked in and were seated right away for obvious reasons, but I loved how they were equipped for large groups like ours (we were nine people). The decor was great, with wooden high top tables as well as wooden drink menus (some were falling apart though). Their whiskey and other spirit selection is great and their specialty cocktails were delicious. I got the "Nobbly Cobbler". It was not too sweet and somewhat refreshing. It did take a while to get our drinks and at first I was sympathetic because we were a very large group. But there really wasn't anyone else in the restaurant besides some people at the bar. The delicious cocktails made up for it. Instead of an entree I went with one of their shareable items, The trio of sliders. Each slider was different. One was venison with a cream sauce. This was my first time ever tying venison and I was afraid it might be too gamey. But it wasn't at all and it was my favorite out of the three. The second was a BBQ pulled pork slider. The BBQ sauce was delicious and I really enjoyed it. The third was a fried chicken thigh slider. This was my least favorite. Actually I didn't like it at all. I don't know if it just wasn't as good as the other two but I wasn't a fan. All three sliders came on three fluffy and buttery buns. They were amazing! We had one server for our whole table and he was great. He took our orders on an iPad which I'm always a big fan of because it means the restaurant's system is up to date. When I ordered my sliders he didn't see them on the menu but he did make it a point to go back and check to see if they did have them which they did. I was super appreciative. On the night I came everyone in the restaurant got a tragic news alert on their phones at the same time, many of us were crying and feeling openly emotional. Our waitress Carla (as well as the rest of the staff) went out of there way to be supportive and empathetic, and stopped to talk with anyone who needed it. Much love Carla! I ordered the smoked chicken wings with blue cheese sauce, the sauce on the side. I didn't expect the wings to also come coated in Buffalo Sauce, which while usually isn't my favorite their sauce does not use a lot of vinegar and they only use a light amount (so it's not dripping). The wings were big, juicy, and tender. The grilled cheese with basil, garlic and fontina comes on thick and crispy buttered sour dough bread and was my favorite item of the night, I enjoyed the delicate flavor of the fontina. Tater tots were crispy, and the fried cheese curds are a must. Served with marinara, they're like gooier mini mozzarella sticks. Maybe this was my favorite item. Maybe I'm not going to pick a favorite. Just get anything with cheese. Mezcal cocktails were on point. They have tons of outdoor seating where they play upbeat music on a speaker, and they're currently doing delivery and curbside pickup. read more
