    Yelp! Elite event!
    Lauren D.

I came to the Dean last night for a Yelp Elite event. The atmosphere was fun, the staff was very friendly, and the beverages and small bites they served were quite good! They had a menu of fun cocktails. Unfortunately, their espresso drink machine kept breaking, but it did not take away from their Blackberry Bramble cocktail!! For food, I got to try the Buffalo cauliflower, chicken tacos(3), fried Mac n cheese bites, their sliders(2), and their chicken quesadillas. They were all sooo good!! One adjustment I would make is that if you're handing out food, please also have napkins on hand to give out - don't make us go to the bar to get them! (Fighting your way to a crowded bar with messy hands can end poorly!) I would definitely come back! Thank you to the Yelp Elite hosts for treating us to this lovely bar!

This place is actually pretty great. I usually avoid time square, but I might find myself popping back here for a drink. The drinks are strong but good. They taste flavorful. You can tell they put actual effort into making the drinks and don't just mix juices. They crush berries, pay attention to detail... I really enjoyed all the drinks I tried. They're also aptly named. I was drinking this drink and it really made me feel like it was summertime and I was lounging in a folding chair by the pool. Then I realized the drink was called poolside and I was like OHHHH!! Lol the berry one was my favorite drink though. Very well done. The location is nice. Good decor. A nice vibe. I also enjoyed the food. Skewers we're yummy. I'm not a fan of vegetables posing as meat but I can tell that vegetarians would like the cauliflower wings. Really good experience.

The decorations were the best part of this experience. The drinks were delish but superrrr sweet making me wonder how much alcohol was actually in them. I had the poolside (vodka, fresh mint) and the blueberry bramble (gin, blueberry, syrup). Like I said, both delicious but overly sweet. The food was subpar. The meatballs were definitely the best. The buffalo cauliflower was good so I had a few of them. However, the Mac n cheese balls and the tacos were bad -- I couldn't finish either of them. Bumping music though!! Good location for work HH. Don't think I'd come back unless work was paying or it was a free event.

3.5/5 The Dean is an extraordinary American bar located in the heart of Midtown Manhattan. I was invited as part of a special Yelp Elite event - a Halloween themed party with an amazing selection of appetizers & cocktails. The bar was nicely decorated with a "Fortune favors the brave" sign made of flowers and has an elegant dim lit feel overall. The first thing to notice is the enticing little Espresso martini machine, which just fills out delightful glasses of the classic cocktail like cold brew. Definitely order this without worrying about the caffeine hour. The other cocktails I tried - Brambleberry gin, Bourbon mash and Poolside were below average. Low on booze or flavor, but high on sweetness and tartness. Don't bother trying. The appetizers are quite tasty, especially the chicken skewers, buffalo cauliflower, meatballs, tacos and the pizza. The meat is tender, juicy and flavorful. Pizza has this nice stretchy cheese which hits the spot. The fried mac & cheese looked delicious but tasted rather bland & unimpressive. Definitely visit the Dean for it's delightful appetizers, not so much for the cocktails - stick to your favorite classics.

Came to The Dean for a Halloween event with Yelp. Such a fun spot. It's such an open space, with dark wood, so it still has a warm feeling to it. For cocktails, we got to pick between 5 different options. I stuck with the Poolside, a vodka mint, lime and cucumber drink. It was a little sweet but I enjoyed it, my friends got a Blackberry Bramble, which they said was also good, also sweet. After two of the Poolsides, I was actually able to get it as a vodka soda (it was Kettle One Cucumber) instead of using the pre-made mint lime mix, loved it! They showcased a few different food options at the party from the menu. If you come here, I highly suggest the Bourbon Meatballs!!! Omg whatever sauce is on these was amazing, I could have had 15 myself. I also really enjoyed the Mac and Cheese Squares, they were really big and super cheesy. Good options I could skip were the Chicken Skewers, I wasn't a fan of the mustard sauce, and the Chicken Tacos, those were a bit dry with a even dryer tortilla.

Comfortable room and reasonable Happy Hour prices. The cocktail menu is limited and the drinks are basic. The small plates are average, the Mac & Cheese Bites were the best of the group that we ordered. We asked for our plates to be brought at different times, and suggested that the kitchen could sequence the plates to accommodate their flow. All of the plates were brought together (by two servers). Sigh. Review your check, a 15% "included gratuity" was added to our check.

I don't know what happened! But I want to think that the fryers broke at the Brunch'd AF event Sat. 6/17. The Event started over an hour late! Not enough bathrooms! What was the deal with the fryers?? I saw staff carrying in oil by the gallon to fry cat fish to later find out that Chef Jeff was frying fish between 2 pans for well over 100 people. On Juneteenth Weekend! I knew when he posted the venue as "The Dean", I knew it wasn't going to work but still wanted to support Chef Jeff so I went and stayed the whole time! I was there for well over an hour drinking Rum Punch with no food! I was so FADED! I had to ask for water to try and cut the buzz. So it was a 2pm event that doesn't start until 3:30pm. Then all that's available is rum punch! No chips, NOTHIN! Did not get food until 4:30pm. My friend had her food delivered to the table in a to go plate at 4:45pm... Then the event was closed at 5:30pm. And the next Brunch event started even LATER! Also, someone fainted in line while waiting to get it! FDNY had to respond! I can't speak for their normal restaurant service... But for private events... Hell No! Food was good but it took FOREVER!

Okay, so this place was pretty. They had a 90s brunch that i was invited to. The venue was soo nice! But the food left a lot to be desired. This is a clear case of go for the vibe, not the food. The Rasta pasta was spicy, but the noodles were over cooked, the chicken was rough and stringy. The red velvet waffles were dry, and the wings were wingettes that had sooo much fat on them, it was barely edible. The drink menu was limited to rum punch, which tasted like juice. We sent back the drinks 3 times, or a mimosa. The dj was just okay. It was a 90s brunch, but no 90s music was played. Again, love the venue. If i do come back, maybe for a happy hour or something if the drinks are half price . But, I'll pass on the food. See pics below

We went to this bar to see the match of the French team for the soccer world cup. The bar was full, with several screens to watch the game. The place was pretty cool and quite big, but unfortunately there were not enough waiters at the bar to serve everyone, so there was a lot of waiting, I even had to wait almost 20 minutes to get a beer. Too bad there was no draught beer for a pub either. I can't judge other drinks or when there are less people, because this was a special case and I think this bar is very nice in normal conditions. Despite that, I had a great time and there was a great atmosphere inside the bar.

This bar is alright. It's cute and spacious and there are booths and places to dance but it is not fun when it's crowded. I'd maybe come here on a lowkey weekday or maybe Thursday for chill vibes. Went around the holidays and it was so hard to get a drink and our entire group felt very ignored by the bartenders no matter what area we were in. Also the drinks were pretty watered down/ had minimal liquor which was unfortunate due to the pricing and wait time to get them. We were ordering a couple shots at once at one point since it took so long to be served. I understand it was crowded & could be overwhelming but there wasn't much hospitality. Of course, NYC bar pricing is killer so it was kinda expected but still not great. I will say there was cute holiday decor and some specials going on. We didn't bother trying to order any bar bites due to them running out of ingredients and taking a long time to attend to everyone. At one point in the night, their credit card reader stopped working. They were telling people it was cash only AFTER they ordered (and they had known about it for awhile -- I witnessed it all lol). While it's a good rule of thumb to have cash on hand, the business should inform customers that their CC reader isn't working and they'll only be able to accept cash, esp. on a busy weekend in NYC. We were lucky to have some cash on hand but that was disappointing for people around us who were waiting for as long as us who didn't. We waited there for hours, and it probably took about 50 minutes to get a single drink order in. Probably wouldn't plan to come here again but if I was in the area and it wasn't crowded, I'd stop by and give The Dean another chance.

Very spacious and nice atmosphere. Food is meh, mainly because of my own preference. I had the buffalo cauliflower, margherita flat bread, and tequila dijon glazed chicken skewer. Cauliflower was not cooked just right as you can feel the crunch. However, I'm not a big fan of buffalo sauce so it would be great if there are other options. The chicken skewer was my least favorite as the sauce was a little bitter for me. Flatbread is pretty normal.

Came for an event and it was okay overall. The atmosphere and the theming was pretty nice. The drink service was a little slow but the drinks themselves were pretty good. The cucumber and mint cocktail in particular was very refreshing and much better than I thought. I only got to try a chicken skewer after about an hour and a half though ( a tad dry too but good flavor) so I wish the food service was a little quicker.

Not only did they accommodate it without hesitation, they helped decorate and present it beautifully you would have thought it had been baked that same day. It was such a touching moment for us, and they handled it with care and enthusiasm. As for the food: incredible. The steak tartare was perfectly balanced and beautifully prepared. The tuna was fresh and vibrant. And the Beef Wellington... honestly one of the best I've had in New York City. Perfectly cooked, rich, elegant, and absolutely worthy of a celebration dinner. The atmosphere strikes the perfect balance: romantic, warm, refined but relaxed. It felt special without being stiff. If you're looking for a place to celebrate something meaningful, this is it. FRIED CHICKEN & JOHNNY CAKES - 18 I wanted a mix of sweet and savory, so this option seemed like a good one. Each order came with two strips of fried chicken tenders placed on top of two large cornmeal pancakes, each bigger than my face. The fried chicken was heavily-breaded (perhaps a bit too much), with white chicken meat underneath that varied between juicy and dry The pancakes themselves were pretty forgettable, and I wasn't a big fan of the lemon ricotta or chili-spiced syrup on the side. Most of our group found their entrees pretty underwhelming. Additionally, service was really slow, and the kitchen forgot an order. Personally, I wouldn't return, especially with so many other great options within two minutes walk away. Edit: Owner pointed out that their chicken is not breaded. What I meant is that the chicken is heavily-battered. Sorry!

Probably the worst food I've had in manhattan to date. We got the shaved steak sandwich which was awful. The steak was somehow raw (we asked for medium well) and rubbery and overly chewy all at the same time. Also tasted like it was seasoned with a pinch of salt and nothing else. The caesar salad was abysmal. They make their own dressing which is usually a good thing but that was not the case here. The dressing tasted like anything but caesar. We told the waitress and asked for new entrees because we couldn't even take another bit of either. We chose chicken tenders and a burger because we figured you can't mess that up. Well.... The burger was also pretty terrible and the chicken tenders tasted of old oil. Now one would think if food isn't their strong suit, maybe they make up for it in their drinks. WRONG. Moscow Mule was not in a copper cup. Instead it was out of a plastic cup made to look like copper. It also tasted like flavored water. The only reason I'm giving 2 stars is because the waitresses gave us new food (also bad) and we're apologetic but it's not their fault.
