Judi came to give us an estimate to replace a bunch of old windows in our home at Dillon Beach. We took our time signing the contract, but eventually we were very pleased with the installation, and the windows look and work great, I think they are Simonton. After a year or so, which included some very heavy rains, we noticed some leaking around the top of one of the windows. We assumed there had been a problem with the installation, so we reached out to AWS. Apparently Judi has retired, and Kyle, her grandson (?) now runs the company. They sent a crew out, climbed up the ladders, pulled off some shingles, and discovered it wasn't a problem with their installation. The original home builders had put the copper flashing on top of the plywood sheathing, not under it. So the leak wasn't their fault, it was a preexisting condition. They replaced the flashing, and installed some additional waterproofing material and caulking, to get us through until we can have a contractor come and fix the root of the problem. Needless to say we felt bad their crew had to come all the way out, and ended up doing work on our house which was outside their original scope. We offered to pay them, but Kyle refused, and insisted he was happy to help us out, even though he wasn't obligated to do it. All in all we had a great experience dealing with them, and next time we need new windows we won't hesitate to call Kyle. read more

We ordered Simonton Windows from Judi Brandi multiple times over the past 20 years and were really happy with our customer service & installation. 4 months ago, we reached out for an estimate for one kitchen window that hadn't been previously replaced and to order replacement screens for our windows. We've contacted them dozens of times via email and phone over the past 4 months and the service has been appalling. They only answer 1 of 3 questions asked. We still don't have an estimate for one window and they can't confirm if they've ordered our screens. We have another company coming tomorrow to give us an estimate. Apparently they got bought out and the new owners are terrible. Stay away!!! read more

We spent about $12k at American Window Systems on new windows and a sliding glass door for our home. That's a lot of money, so naturally I thought when there was a problem with the sliding glass door they installed that it would be no big deal to get the problem addressed and resolved. Nope. BIG DRAMA. BIG BIG DRAMA. It took over two months to even get someone to come over and look at the door, and getting them there took several phone calls and a letter to the owners. In fact it was the owners who finally came out. Now Check This Out The owners of American Window Systems are in there 70's. They were super angry that I wouldn't shut up and go away until they fixed the problem with the door. They seriously acted as if I had spit on them or something, because I wouldn't go along with them when they continually blew us off and gave us the run around. It was nuts! I was actually out of town when they came out, so my boyfriend met with them. He is actually really personable and quiet so we figured this was probably going to be a simple meeting to finally resolve the problem. The owner and his wife were combative and really condescending towards my boyfriend saying things like "Tell your 'friend' this and your 'friend' that," referring to me, because we own the home together but we're not married. I guess to people of their generation pointing out that two people are living in what they consider to be sin somehow justifies bad business practices and general douchebaggery on their part. Anyway they pushed it to the point that my quiet & polite boyfriend shuffled these two old farts out of our house. So what was problem? We needed a new handle for our sliding glass door. We had our sliding glass door replaced with another glass company in San Rafael last year. This year we asked for a quote for all our windows and boy were they expensive! We were referred to AWS and as it turns out, they've done quite a few houses in our neighborhood. Overall they did a pretty good job. - Unlike the other glass company, they knew that our home was grandfathered into the city's fire code for height restrictions. That saved us a ton of money. A ton! - Our windows look great from the outside and inside. In fact, our bathrooms now look bigger because of these windows. Who knew something like this could make such a difference? - Our rep has been in business forever. In fact she carried a photo album with homes they've done...I mean a real album with paper pictures that came from a film camera. Thought that was cute. - Our rep was responsive. Questions about quotes? She walked us through. Concerns about installation? She called me immediately back. That's good old school service right there. Did I mention she delivers on what she promises? They're not perfect but these aren't show stoppers. - The quote was confusing. It's already hard enough to process what goes into an intricate quote and we started losing confidence when the rep made some errors and forgetting to include costs. Once we worked everything out, the price was still reasonable and we were ok. - They did an ok job in patching the interior wall when they installed a larger master window. Could've been better but not a show stopper. We'll just need to sand down the bumps when we repaint the room again. - They broke one of the vertical blinds in our living room and didn't say anything about it (or forgot to). Now the blinds won't meet in the middle to shut all the way. At least it wasn't one of the middle blinds. - They left more dust than expected. Maybe we were spoiled by Moore Heating and Air Conditioning in Petaluma (see review) because we could've practically eaten off the floor after those guys left. Not so much with AWS. The positives outweigh the negatives and we'll definitely call these folks again when the time comes. read more

I am so pleased with our windows and patio door. We replaced 19 windows and 1 patio door in our 2 story home. AWS was fantastic from start to finish. The longest wait was waiting for our windows to be built. Kyle was wonderful to work with, and was able to see what we wanted and work with us. We changed the style of a lot of our windows, and he was patient with our multiple changes prior to signing the contract. The installers were fast, polite, cleaned up after themselves , and super friendly. I'm pretty sure my husband distracted them by talking to them, but they were very outgoing. They installed our windows in two days, the first day being the hottest day of the year. We were all hot and miserable, but they didn't complain once. I've already recommended this company to my neighbors, and will continue to do so. What a huge difference new windows have made in our house. Five stars all the way. read more

I decided to write this review because I think about how much I love our windows almost every day....and we've had them for 8 years! We got windows throughout our entire house from these guys back in 2006. They still look brand new. In fact, people ask us regularly if we got new windows. They feel very high quality. Once they were installed, we no longer had issues with our house becoming a hot box in the summer. They flip out for easy cleaning and have child proof options. Recently, one of our windows had water damage in-between the panes. I called them and they came out with no issue and replaced it with no charge. Added bonus: every person we've come into contact with through this company has been completely pleasant and helpful. Wish I could give them an extra credit star! :) read more

These guys are AMAZING!!!!! We had 10 windows and 2 large sliding glass doors replaced by American Windows. The rep, Judy, made sure that the measurements for the replacement windows were accurate and had installers come out to verify the measurements. Each day the installers were in our home, they were very professional and made sure all was tidy when they left. Now for the amazing part - when the local building inspector came by to sign off on the permit, he was impressed with the quality of the job since some of the windows were 2 stories high. Also, all of our single pane windows were replaced with double pane and we could notice the difference in temperature immediately - no more drafts. We had all our windows replaced in 2006 with double paned, double hung window. American Windows showed up with enough workers, all necessary equipment and completed the job in one day. they were very professional, with a minimum of disturbance to the wood trim as well as the landscaping. Buyer beware! Very difficult to work with. Unprofessional install team and cannot get an install date for when they can come replace our windows under warranty. I have been waiting for weeks for anyone from AWS to call me back to only get the run around! Now they said they feel uncomfortable installing the windows because I am upset with their quality of work. Now I am left with glass manufactured from AWS but no installer. What a horrible company!!! I spent over 80 thousand dollars on windows and doors and in the end the company said we cannot deliver your windows and doors without an additional cost. They then said that with cost, we would have to unload the windows and doors ourselves? I have never had any product delivered in which I had to go off load the items. I was referred to American window systems by a neighbor who was really pleased with their work. I went down to their showroom the same day to look at the products they had to offer. I was greeted immediately. They showed me several displays and were very knowledgeable about their products. I requested a quote and they were able to come out the same day! They quoted me for 10 windows and a sliding glass door. After receiving my quote I was pleasantly surprised as it was much more reasonable than previous quotes I had received. On installation day the workers were right on time. They started by placing drop cloths in Front of each window. With three workers they were able to remove all existing windows and replace them with new vinyl Simonton retro fits in 5 hours! The work was done in a very professional manner and I couldn't be more pleased with the outcome. I would definitely recommend this company and I would use them again in the future! read more

She was very knowledgeable & pleasant to work with. I needed every window in my house replaced as I had very old single glaze windows. Soon after her colleague came out to take final measurements. Soon after that a crew came out & replaced all the windows which included a large sliding glass door which actually had to be special ordered. They were professional & fast. Everything looks great & operates perfectly. On top of that they did it for 1/3 the price I had been quoted by another building contractor. I had a great experience with American Window. Our large window had the balance fall out (which causes the window to open but will not close. I called American Window and was expecting them to come out and charge me for a service call, instead the owner talked to me over the phone about how to fix it myself. I was still having difficulty, so he sent a wonderful person to help me out (still at no charge). I was so impressed because it seems that these days you have to pay $200 just for service people to ring your doorbell, much less do any work. Also, the amazing thing was Judy (the person who came out to help me) told me that my brand of windows has a lifetime guarantee (which I didn't know), and gave me the number of the manufacturer, so that the window could be completely repaired free of charge. We have been doing business with AWS of Napa since we bought our home in 1993, when soon after we replaced all our windows with double panes. In 2008 we did a major remodel, adding more windows and two French sliding doors. When damage was done to two windows during this remodel, they replaced the windows with no cost to us...this exceeded our expectations! i been dealing with this company since middle of 2000. i give them almost $10,000 business. got windows for 2 condos. i order only one window now. have hell of a time getting installation date. beside the attitude i got from there office. very very unprofessional people answering the phone. never ever will do business with them this company get to big to serve regular people. please please if you ever deal with them read the contract carefully. i did write a positive review for this company on 11/19/2009 but this company has changed to very worse in customer service area. basically you spend 1000,s of dollars and get disrespected by this company read more

What can we say about American Window Systems? Remarkable! AWS was recommended through co-workers and we couldn't be happier with the way things turned out. Steve Javorina came out, measured the windows and quickly sent us a quote. The installation of windows and a sliding glass door was scheduled at our convenience and installed in two days. The installation crew was professional, friendly and cleaned up the area before they left. It took a while to write this review because we were waiting for a significant rain to see if a previous leak was fixed with the new installation (it didn't), if you happen to live in the bay area you know we haven't had many of those. We also asked for a replacement screen as our cat damaged it and it was mailed to us within days. The windows themselves have surprised us in that they not only block out some sunlight but also noise, it is much quieter in the house. The furnace/ac seem to run far more efficiently also. We highly recommend American Window Systems to everyone for replacement windows. read more

I had a mid-century home on the hills with great views of the Valley. Converted an old window to a sliding glass door in order to access a Juliette balcony at the front of the house. The rep came out an said that because of the non-standard size we had to go with a custom Jeld-wen door. I also wanted a retractable (and hidden) screen which he said would be after market but installed as soon as the custom doors were installed. After I placed my order ($20k for one door) I never heard from my rep again. Luckily I had the email he sent for the contract so after 8 weeks I would just cc everyone on his email distro. He never responded but the office staff was superb!! I received intermittent responses about my install and finally the day came. Door was installed and gorgeous! But...screen door missing. Wouldn't have been a problem had the rep followed up in my original request for the invisible screens as promised. Instead it took longer to have one screen installed than it took for the entire order for the custom door. While all of this was going on we put the house on the market and had to deal with questions on the missing screen. I ended up following up with AMS more than they did with me. In fact it took so long to get the correct screen the new owners met the the installer... For the record, once I told AMS I needed it fixed or they would lose my future business in the new house...the sales rep called me! To recap...office staff wonderful. Everything else not so much. AMS also took zero accountability and said they were the middle-men to a place in Sacramento that deals with Jeld-wen. I paid $20k to deal with the people who deal with the people who deal with Jeld-wen. read more

We have used AWS on several occasions to replace a few windows at a time over the last 10 years. Each time we have gotten prompt service, the owners themselves come to give the estimate and the installers have been speedy, efficient and tidy. Our most recent experience was what has prompted me to write a review. Our sliding glass door & screen were not rolling correctly, they were installed in 2004. We tried to replace the wheels ourselves in the screen door, to no avail, so my husband took the whole door to their shop to get help. He was told that our Simonton door had a LIFETIME guarantee on the wheels and they would order a whole new screen door and replace both the wheels & the track on the glass door for FREE! We were delighted! Less than a week later, "young Mike" the owner's grandson was at our house with a new screen door, wheels & track for the glass door & zip-zip they were installed & both are rolling like brand new - oh that's right they ARE brand new!! I'm so happy! Roberta (the owner) called the next day to see how the installation went and of course we told her EXCELLENT! I would recommend calling Roberta any time for new windows. We are happy with all of our replacements and the service we have received from AWS. I cannot believe the bad review by J.F. I'm very happy with the work and the customer service we received. The installers were very professional and clean. They needed to do the install over 2 days and cleaned up everything as if they hadn't been to the house. Our sales person, David, was really fantastic. He found the same window brand that the previous owners had started to replace, so we didn't have to try to match them or work with different colors. lWe had a problem with the wrong handles ordered, and he had some made for us, came back and replaced them. Later, some stripping came off of the window. I called and they had the manufacturer call me within a day. The windows are great quality and I'm very pleased with their work. read more
