Stopped by on a Monday night as my wife wanted to try the all you can eat Fried Chicken. We got there at 5:00 and the place was pretty empty so we got seated right away. The place is a little more upscale than many of the places I tend to frequent and although I was still in my business casual work clothes my wife was just wearing jeans and a t-shirt and she kind of looked out of place. In the future if I return I would want to make sure to be dressed a little more formal. Unfortunately I had started my diet by so I got to miss out on the fried chicken however I did order the full wedge salad and for rabbit food, it was pretty darn good. It had smoked blue cheese crumbles and a very nice home made ranch dressing with bacon and I was very pleased. My wife said the fried chicken was phenomenal and it was some of the most moist and flavorful fried chicken she had ever had. I'll have to give it a shot sometime. Prices were reasonable for what we ordered although some of the items on their menu can be kind of pricey. One thing I noticed is that they keep the place pretty dark inside. Since it was after daylight saving time ended it was dark when we got there and they keep the overhead lights very dim with candles and each table. I had a hard time reading the menu it was so dark. Otherwise though I liked the atmosphere. You could tell it was a place where downtown professionals gathered after getting off of work as there were a few people sitting in the bar area still wearing suits and dresses. Parking was kind of a pain. It's mostly street parking although the lot directly to their west allows parking for them after 5:00pm. Before 5:00 it is a private company lot that will tow your car without permit. Overall, I liked what they offered. I will have to try them again when I am not trying to watch what I eat. read more

You had me at "endless mimosas". We went here for their Bombshell Brunch on Saturday, based off of great recommendations. I would definitely recommend a reservation (available online), because walk ins had about an hour wait and we were seated immediately. For brunch lovers like myself, Americana has everything you could want: mimosa bar, Bloody Mary bar, grilled cheese station, crepe bar, mashed potato bar, & an endless amount of breakfast meats, eggs, breads, fruits, etc. For myself, I did the brunch combo for $30 which includes the food buffets and the endless mimosas. I think, considering the price of cocktails at most places, this was a good value. I didn't give this 5 stars as the food didn't blow me away. We decided on a whim to make a stop at Americana before a show at Hoyt Sherman. I used the open table app to make a reservation, because we knew we would be cutting it close on time. When we arrived we were greeted immediately, name was given and we were shown to our table. It was a Sunday evening, not packed but certainly bustling. Our server was attentive and helpful when asked about menu items. Our food came out in an appropriate amount of time, I enjoyed the filet and it was prepared a perfect medium. I've gone to Americana for brunch and Champagne Thursdays a few times now and it's a great option for special occasions. The food is always great and worth the pricing. It's definitely one of the more expensive brunch buffets in the area but again worth it for special occasions. The tack on $10 bottomless mimosas/bloody Mary bar is a steal! Sometimes I wish they would serve you the drinks already made/mixed but understand it's because brunch is so busy. But I would suggest having more bartenders/drink runners during brunch time either way. And serve those drinks already mixed. Because in the end you are spending close to $38 with tax included and tipping around 18% on top of that if you come in with a group ( which is the case most of the time), I would like to have more service for that amount of cost. The online reservation feature through yelp is the bomb! Love it! What's been an ongoing issue for me is the lack of service at the host stand. Every time I go in ( even with making reservations in advance), I end up standing there and waiting up to 10 minutes ( yesterday this happened to me), for someone to finally walk over to the host stand and ask me if I've been helped. This partially defeats the purpose of reserving a table in advance. Seating is wonderful! It's comfy and classy. Plus even with how crowded it gets and with music playing I could still hear my friends and feel like we had an intimate atmosphere at our table. Always make a reservation! The Americana staff was amazing and had a bottle of champagne ready as well as a glass of blue moon set out in remembrance for a recently lost loved one. Went for New Year's Eve--Usually service at Americana is slow, but last night, they were slow and clueless. We were served other meals, other appetizers, different sides, everything. It took over 30 minutes just to get a beer. Of course, because we waited nearly an hour to get food orders in, the special was sold out. The food that was served was good, the drinks were fine, but it was very clear that our table of 8 was not a priority to anyone there. Several large parties got their orders and drinks much before we got ours, despite ordering before they even arrived. I doubt that I will go back to Americana. Came in for lunch today for our second time while down for Thanksgiving. Lots of dirty tables in view and we had to wait as the host cleaned one to accommodate us. My thought was short staffed for Black Friday. Now to the good news, food was great. My son had the Mac & Cheese and I got a taste, and I wish I hadn't because it was yummy! It was our last night in Des Moines and we wanted to try some Iowa beef before leaving. I had the ribeye steak, medium rare, and my wife had the fillet mignon also cooked medium rare. Both were outstanding - cooked exactly as we like and with a great flavor. We finished our meal by sharing a key lime pie dessert that was nearly the best we have ever had. The wait staff were very friendly and competent. The ambiance inside and the sculpture garden across the street were very complementary. I come here very often and my favorite things about this place is the consistency of good service and amazing food. Recently, I stopped here with large group of coworkers (14) and they happily accommodated our group. And I am pleased to report we have no errors on anyone's food and everyone was very happy with the meal. I ordered the Seared Scallops, which were cooked perfectly. (I have not found a better place in town to order scallops from.) They come with this tomato marmalade which is just delicious, I wish they would sell by the jar. It also comes with their amazing chive and cheddar mash. For cocktails, I usually have one of the seasonal specials and two glasses of Strawberry Bitch. Taste as good as the name is amusing. Great restaurant introduced to us by our daughter and her boyfriend - they live in downtown Des Moines and are great at finding the "hot spots" to try. The ginger beer mules are very tasty- I tried one of their newer flavors- I think it was raspberry? I just asked the server to surprise me and then forgot to ask her which flavor it was. They had a lot of cool mules on their drink menu. My 24 year old had a flavored Bellini and loved it. I had never seen so many Bellini choices! The salmon is amazing! The menu featured steak and burgers plus some fancy appetizers. They also had a good variety of salad options. I had the spinach and strawberry salad which was very good and filling. Visited from out of town and received a lot of recommendations to try this place. The location is amazing!! Before and after dinner we took a walk through the sculpture park. We came on a Friday, which is their Champagne Friday's. Half off bottles of champagne and $4 champagne cocktails. We took advantage of both and enjoyed everything! We were eager to try appetizers and shareable plates, so we did not order any entrees. All the shareable plates were fantastic, I've attached photos of our favorites though. We loved the Thai tacos, crab Rangoon dip, spinach salad, lamb skewers, and seared ahi tuna. There was 4 of us, so for a few of the shareable plates we ordered 2 of each. Stopped by here after dinner because we heard that they serve some decent drinks. They have a pretty big cocktail menu with many different choices and they all sounded great. I ended up choosing the Cardamom Crush and I was pleasantly surprised by how much it actually tasted like cardamom. It was light and refreshing and just the right amount of sweet. We also tried the strawberry one and it was fantastic. Would definitely come back here for drinks in the future, especially because they are so reasonably priced- at around $10 for such unique, beautiful drink creations. I didn't order any food because we had just eaten somewhere else but from what I saw on the other tables, the food looked great and I would go back just to try it. The inside of the restaurant was a little dark even though we were seated right near a big window, but I guess that's the ambiance they were trying to create. I am rewriting my review for Americana since it's been almost two years since my last visit here, and we just experienced their brunch this weekend. The brunch is spendy, but well worth it. The food is great, the spread is pretty impressive, and the mimosa/bloody mary bar is such a cool idea. Below are some of the standouts from our visit. Mashed Potato Bar: Um, yum. How did they know mashed potatoes were my favorite? With toppings like BBQ pork to bacon, cheese sauce to sweet corn sauce, and many MANY items in between, everyone gets their ideal mashed potatoes, and I sure know I did! French Toast Sticks: Crispy and bready in the best ways ever. I missed them my first time through the line and I sure didn't miss them the second time! Mac and Cheese: Hardy and cheesy and everything I love. And the cheese sauce it leaves behind on your plate is the perfect dipping sauce for the chicken tenders! COOKIES: These look like simple cookies, but sometimes the best things come in uncomplicated circles. My favorite was what I believe to be a molasses or ginger cookie (they aren't labeled). It hit every note of sweet and spicy and I want a whole box delivered by Santa come December. I highly recommend getting a group of friends together and sitting down for a fabulous brunch here.
