+ service was good, food was delicious - my husband commented this was a good steak tender and full of flavor. I had the California burger which was equally delicious. Our waitress was friendly and gave us plenty of time to look at the menu as it was our first time here. Would be back again.

Came here for a large party (over 20) and it was amazing!! I'm only going to comment on my meal (but everyone in the party ALL enjoyed their meal & service) so with that being said: we came here for a party of over 20 and our service was top notch! No one waited longer for their meal or appetizer and everyone got their drinks and dinner accordingly. I ordered the bacon wrapped shrimp (not pictured) and it was a perfectly balanced salty sweet mix with the pineapple/mango salsa. The special was a 6oz steak Oscar style w a crab cake and that was a show stopper!! The crab cake was AMAZING: perfectly fried and seasoned were it wasn't fishy and overly seasoned with crumbled so you can taste the crab and aioli - it is a MUST! My steak was cooked perfectly (medium) and seasoned so you got that delicious melt in your mouth steak. Our waitress & waiter was amazing for serving such a large group and they didn't make us feel rushed to order and checked up on us. Highlight of the night was the owners & staff signing a card on our new journey & bday celebration to give us a special touch for the night. I HIGHLY recommend for large party cause they definitely made sure we were taken care of and the food was top notch!

    Oscar Style Chilean Sea Bass

This is my second time coming to this restaurant. The first time was end of February, where I tried their Oscar style Chilean Sea Bass, their Philly Steak and Cheese soup with their house salad with homemade ranch dressing. The Chilean Sea Bass was cooked to perfection, the lump crab meat, chef's kiss! All paired superbly with a white wine. If that wasn't enough, I somehow made room for dessert. You have to try their Créme Brûlée Flight. It comes with vanilla, chocolate, strawberry and espresso! I came in ready to eat. The staff here are extremely welcoming, accommodating and friendly. Josh (at the bar) took care of me then and tonight. Tonight's menu consisted of an 8oz Filet, medium rare, Oscar style steak. It comes with asparagus. I ordered a premium side of Gouda Hashbrowns and loaded them with mozzarella, Monterey Jack cheese and bacon. A house salad of course, to keep my figure right and dessert. A strawberry cheesecake. Josh remembered me from February! Top tier service! I hope I don't make this a habit, I'll definitely be back!

    Steak lobster shrimp lunch special

We went to Filet for lunch and it was the best lunch experience I've had in a long time. They had a special for $24.99 steak, shrimp and lobster! It came with 2 sides. I got the mashed potatoes and side salad. It also came with a warm loaf of bread. My steak and lobster were delicious and cooked perfectly. The server was helpful and friendly. My friend had the chicken sandwich with bacon and it was also affordable and delicious. Definitely one of my favorite lunch spots now.

Excellent. Great service food was all perfect. Not over seasoned prime rib was rare. The mac & cheese was excellent. The bar area is beautiful. Lots of great seating. They really hit a home run.

I don't know how this place doesn't have 5 stars- my wife and I wanted a delicious, romantic dinner and that's just what we got! There's a $20 corkage fee so we ordered a bottle of tribute Pinot noir and it was actually pretty good. Our server, (Carrington) was awesome with a voice so smooth, you would want to order everything. My wife got the 12oz New York strip adding Oscar enhancement with 2 sides - Boursin mashed potatoes and bacon Mac n cheese( both delicious) I ordered the surf and turf pasta and my 2 sides were wedge salad and Philly steak and cheese soup (both also delicious). For dessert, we ordered the cheesecake sampler- Ferraro Rocher, crème brûlée, and strawberry This is a new favorite in the Ankeny area and I hope this review will encourage you to try Filet Steakhouse!

Sirloin shrimp and lobster. August special
    Amanda S.

Love the environment here. It's cozy , yet lively. Our server Katie was amazing. She made recommendations for both food and drink. The food was delicious! We both had the sirloin lobster and shrimp. Everything was cooked perfect and the signature drink was a perfect compliment. We are already planning our next date night here! We were asked if we were celebrating anything and when we told them 22 years of marriage we were present with an anniversary card signed by the staff before leaving! Talk about a personalized experience. Even the manager stopped by our table to check on things! The level of customer service was above and beyond. I can not wait to recommend this place to anyone looking for a special place.

There were about 30 people in our group . They had already ordered the table appetizers before I arrived consisting of The Deviled Eggs with bacon, Artichoke Spinach dip and Crab Rangoon dip. All were delicious even though a bit cold from sitting for a while before they got passed around. We had 2 servers that I didn't get names but both were very attentive and managed the group very well . Everyone's orders were taken efficiently, I got the Frutti Di Mare in a white sauce with the seafood bisque soup. The entire dish was delicious with the exception of the bread, it was rock hard, but I didn't need it anyway . The bisque soup came out too cool for my liking but the waitress had a new bowl served at the right temp and it was perfect. I would eat a whole vat of that. The meal was great, shrimp perfectly prepared and fresh and snappy, plenty of mussels and a large portion providing a take home amount that served as dinner the next night too. I also indulged in a key lime pie because if rave reviews. I was not disappointed. Overall the place is elegant and classy enough for a suit and tie but still casual enough for shorts and flip flops. It will make for a nice date spot for an anniversary dinner. By the way this review was not written or touched by AI.

I give this place 5 stars. It is an older steakhouse with an aged ambiance but their prices are decent and the service was great despite being quite busy. Environment was noisy, with only a few inches between tables. Bacon-wrapped scallops were grilled to perfection, but could have used some seasoning. My wife said her French onion soup was too salty. The hashbrowns were a joke -- unseasoned mashed potatoes in a mold that was browned on top. No hashbrown texture at all. My wife's sirloin steak was quite good. However, my $56 dry-aged 12-oz ribeye was a disappointment. I expected a melt-in-your-mouth experience. What I got was a somewhat dry piece of meat with very little marbling, but with a chunk of fat in the middle. Both steaks were poorly seasoned. Steaks should be prepared with a ample amount of salt and pepper. Adding it after the fact isn't the same.

The food outshined the service!…read more Ambiance: 4 stars Food: 5 stars Service: 2 stars Well, I came here with a friend for lunch. He loves the place and said the Gyros are fantastic. So I went with his recommendation. First impressions: The place is small and nicely located in the District at Prairie Trail in Ankeny. They have adequate seating and were only slightly busy when we arrived (I would say it was at half capacity the entire time we were there) We stood at the reception location for a while before we were 'greeted' and finally seated. We sat for quite a while before the guy with the headset to came back to take our orders. This was the weird part - he was fine, but he spoke so quietly we were not sure he was addressing us or talking to someone in his headset. Eventually we got our orders in, and we again waited. Some time later the water showed up, then after another pause the drinks we ordered were delivered, and sometime later the food showed up. He even remembered the dipping sauce which I thought I was going to have to ask for. We ate our entire meals without once being asked how things were, and eventually after the food was all gone, he came back to unceremoniously plop the bill on the table, and after another extended period he came back to process the payment. All-in-all the interaction with this guy was 'just weird'. (It was suggested that he might be the son of the owner...) He was doing his job but there was absolutely not any extra effort put in to make us feel welcome, and the total lack any real interaction was off-putting. The overall appearance of the place was nice and appeared clean, the decor was fresh and classy. However the bar area around the kitchen was very cluttered and looked like it was being used for overflow storage and it was a bit chaotic and had lots of clutter. Please forgive the fact that I forgot to take pictures of the delicious food. I got into conversation with my friend and just forgot! It was a very well made traditional Gyro with generous portions of meat, fresh hummus and a perfect portion of super fresh tzatziki sauce. I ordered fresh jalapeños and they got that right too! The side of fries were delicious as well, seasoned perfectly, crispy and fresh, and the garlic sauce...well did not lack for garlic! Wowza!! Overall I do recommend this place for the food! I will most likely return and I hope that the service will be a little better next time around.

That special occasion presented itself this week with our 38th Wedding Anniversary - so I made the decision to splurge for the night! While the rumors I had heard led me to believe that the restaurant was on the top floor of the building, it didn't take long to find the elevator access blocked. We then followed the signs to the location on the 2nd floor at the top of the stairs and on the East side. While the entrance from the building was a bit hidden (see pictures), once we stepped inside we immediately transitioned into a what would be expected of a high-end restaurant (see pictures). We started with a Troon (grapefruit vodka & grapefruit juice - see picture) and an 801 Special Martini (vodka, gin & blue cheese olives - see picture). The Troon was especially tasty and the martini was a bit strong for me, so I asked for some brine to 'dirty it up a bit' - which I liked. Following the delicious Table Bread (see picture), we ordered the Prime Beef Carpaccio (see picture) and Wedge Salad (see picture) - shared them both and would highly recommend both of them. While I kind of wanted to try all of the seafood on the menu, since this was a reknowned steakhouse, we decided to share the 30oz Porterhouse (see picture). While we ordinarily order medium rare, our server (Laura) advised us that their medium rare is cool in the middle, so we adjusted to medium along with the suggestion to precut it and were extremely pleased with the results (see plated picture). It was cooked to perfection, with the butter and mushrooms only enhancing each bite! Of course we couldn't leave without the capstone of the meal and neither of us had ever had a souffle, so we went with the Chocolate Souffle (see picture) - and OH, was it delicious!! As if it wasn't good enough by itself, it was also served with 3 different sauces to add (Chocolate, Vanilla & Berry Compote) - you will want to try it! Our experience was a great as it gets, with various staff members wishing us "Happy Anniversary" throughout the evening, a personalized Happy Anniversary menu and a complimentary dessert. The only thing I struggled with on a review like this is how to rate "Value" when the cost is more than double the high side of what we usually spend when we go out for dinner. For us and our budget...we just have to reserve our return trip for another very special occasion! If you found this review helpful, please show your appreciation with a Like or a Follow.
