The optometrist was fine, but I gave up on my effort to order new lenses from them. They were too inefficient for me to trust them when my expensive frames. A well or so ago, I selected a list of features for my lenses immediately after my optometrist appointment. The representative who helped me select them--I'll call her Sue, not her real name-- assured me that the record would be retained for when I came back. I wanted to check other options first. The second time I went, I found that Sue failed to record my selections so I went home to retrieve the printouts she gave me. That was the first failure that gave me pause. I brought the printouts the third time I went and had Jane (not her real name) prepare the paperwork for the lens to be replaced. She gave me a waiver to sign that was so sloppily photocopied that it cut off the right side of the page. I couldn't make sense of one of the sentences. They didn't have a master copy that they could make a correct photocopy from. That was the second failure that gave me pause. I lost confidence in their ability to handle my frames with care so I cancelled my plans to have them replace my lenses. I'll try a different company. read more

Had a 9:30 appointment yesterday arrived at 9:08. Pre-test exam was done and Dr arrived at 9:50. I had to leave for work, so I rescheduled for today. I came in and the same girl who rescheduled me for today I told her I was hear yesterday but didn't get to see the doctor has me start all over again. Not to mention I arrive on time at 10:20 and still have yet to be call at 11am. I go ask the receptionist if I'm being seen today and she said I didn't know you were here yesterday. My mouth was to vicious to respond. I will definitely not be back here. Though 2.5 years ago when I first came they seemed to be productive and orderly. I will definitely find out where my insurance will lead just can't SEE coming here again. read more

I hate to be the Karen here but, the first representation that you get from a local practice that is open to the public is the receptionist . As a staff member who works in healthcare, my experience here was not pleasant which is pretty unfortunate because I have been going to America's best contacts and Eye glasses for years. The receptionist doesn't greet you when you walk in , she's very nonchalant in energy and unclear in giving information and instructions . Also the staff here is very loud and unprofessional. I'm human so I understand that's it's completely normal for people to want to interact with each other but some things just shouldn't be said in front of paying customers in the greeting area . Surprise , surprise the actual eye doctor here whom I can admit is very knowledgeable is also mean. She was nice today , but it's not often you catch her in a good mood so that's great . In short, the whole vibe of this place is just a disorganized hot mess . I'm not really sure why it's still called "America's Best ", the only "best" you'll get here are the prices. You won't get the best here as far as professionalism is concerned. My only pleasant experience here today was Emily , the ophthalmic medical technician. She was very kind, clear and professional. As a black woman , It's disappointing that I'm writing a poor review about a staff who is majority black . I gave it 2 stars because at least I was able to get my contacts the same day . Also if your GPS takes you to the 7/11 or Sunoco Gas station when trying to get here set your destination to the ALDI on Annapolis Road . Thank me later ! read more

I've been buying eye glasses from America's Best for a few years now and I've even recommended them to my close friends and family. My insurance is through Kaiser but I like the frames and price point at America's Best so I typically go there to get eye examinations, frames, and lenses. After my most recent visit to pick up new frames and lenses I noticed my vision was worse with the glasses and told them so immediately. They told me that it was fine and my eyes just needed time to adjust to the new prescription lenses; they said I should wait 7 days and return if I still had issues. I am a bus driver so my vision is my livelihood and like most of us, I just can't afford to ignore issues with my eyes so when the issue continued I went back to America's Best and spoke with the manager, Shelita. She assured me that the prescription was correct and my eyes just needed more time to adjust to the new lenses. I was told that the glasses were filled correctly and matched the prescription from my eye exam so it wasn't the glasses. The side effects continued and I thought maybe it was something else so I went back to my primary doctor and we started exploring the possibility of some other issue; I spent so much time and money going back and forth to the doctor to determine why I was continuing to get headaches and gave blurry vision. Never did I imagine that my eye examination at Americ's Best had been performed incorrectly and the prescription they gave was way off in comparison to what I actually needed, however, my doctor thought to have me get another eye examination but at Kaiser this time, and the results were staunchly different from America's Best's examination. She told me that if I'd been wearing that prescription it was definitely the reason for my headaches and blurry vision. She also told me that when I receive new glasses they should work immediately and there's no reason my eyes should need to adjust as I had been told at America's Best. She also provided me with the results of my last eye examination at Kaiser (in 2021) since they were pretty much the same as the eye exam they'd just performed to ensure that my vision had not dramatically changed since my last visit to America's Best. At this point I went back to America's Best and requested that they fix the prescription and advised them that I knew it was wrong and had gotten a second opinion. Shelita responded very rudely to my request, she did not listen to my concerns and spoke over me as I was telling her about my experience with the glasses and eye examination. She then informed me that it was still not their mistake even when faced with documentation from my physician that clearly indicated the prescription was wrong. She refused to replace both pairs and insisted that it was not their mistake but she could replace one as a courtesy. I am very disappointed in the service I received at America's Best in Hyattsville, especially from their manager Shelita. As a manager I would think she'd be more inclined to fix the mistake the first time around and not so worried about the fact that they made one. Their mistake could have cost me my job, I've had to take off work to go to the doctor for these eye appointments and the headaches they caused and to be met with such contempt when I'm only asking them to fix their mistake was so disheartening. I spent over $500.00 on the frames and lenses I purchased there. Since I'd used them before with no issue and I spent so much money I really wanted to give them an opportunity to fix their mistake. Instead I was met with a nasty attitude and an unwillingness to correct their mistake. I am so disappointed in the service I received here that I had to write a review, I typically let this kind of thing go but people should know not to go here for eye exams. I have not had issues in the past but this is too egregious to ignore or make light of it by giving any more stars than this. read more

My exam with Dr. Branch was good. The remainder of my time there was not. I arrived at 10:05a for a 10:10a appointment. (I had filled out all requested information online in advance.) I was asked to wait in a waiting area in the back with a handful of other people. As I was walking back to that waiting area, one of the front-area workers told me that I would need a mask in the waiting area. I didn't put up a fuss, but America's Best's website is very clear about their COVID-19 guidelines and no masks should have been required per the guidelines on the website. (Maryland was in a "Low" community level at the time of my visit and America's Best's website says that masks are required only when community level is "High": https://www.americasbest.com/health-statement.) I don't mind at all if businesses want to mandate masks, but they absolutely must be transparent and consistent with any guidelines they choose to implement. I was not called for my pre-tests until 10:40a, a full 30 minutes after my appointment time. And I was not seen by the doctor until 11:15a. The portion of my visit spent with the doctor lasted less than 15 minutes, which included some pleasant small talk. So if the office were running efficiently, I could have been in and out in 15 minutes. Instead, it took over 80 minutes. I'd like to return to receive care from Dr. Branch, but I don't think I can return to this location unless I book the first appointment of the day. I am so happy with the service, care and, professionalism from my recent visits to Americas best!! The front office staff showed great customer service. Dr.Branch and Dr. Rice gave excellent care, they broke everything down in laymens terms and made sure that I understood every detail of action. Both of their personalities are so welcoming, and relateable. I was initially disappointed when I went for my follow up appointment, that Dr. Branch wasn't there ( Happy Birrhday Dr. Branch!!!),but I was shortly assuaged by Dr. Rice's warm and welcoming disposition. I have learned so much from them aside from my eye care. A great reading app Libby ( I haven't stopped reading since Dr. Branch told me about it ), to a recomendation for my mothers cataracts from Dr. Rice. Worst glasses I have ever owned. I have glasses that are 10 years old that aren't scratched like the two pairs I got from America's best 8 months ago. very shady company, called told them my insurance and they stated they excepted that insurance. Then day of my appointment after eye exam and ordering glasses (2hrs. Later) they say they don't except my insuranc. UNLESS YOU HAVE TIME & MONEY TO WASTE GO SOMEWHERE ELSE. I had problems with new glasses i called and verified my daughter could bring them in due to my disabilty she got there and they refused to take them. I called and told my story 2 times put back on hold for 20 minutes. I called back asked for mgr took my number to call me back. No call back I spent over 300 with insurance and cant get anyone on phone to help me next step is calling my insurance company my employer by the way and small claims court. read more

Just left America's Best Contacts and Eyeglasses in Lanham and I was not pleased. The appointment was for my son who has been having trouble seeing things closely. The pre exam went smoothly, the young woman who performed it was very sweet and professional, but the doctor himself is a different story. VERY rude when I asked him for his advice and even spoke to me in a condescending tone. He referred us to a pediatric ophthalmologist, which is fine but then says to get the glasses although he can't quite pinpoint what's wrong and tells me "wait if I want to" when I asked if we should wait on the glasses until after the appointment there. The staff here are really rude to one another. The doctor yells at the receptionist and they don't seem to have a good working relationship. I noticed this both my first and second visit. The front staff is either not letting the doctors in the back know what's going on or the doctors are just unprofessional..or both! I'm sitting in the back waiting to be seen. My appointment was at 4:45pm and it's now after 5. They are telling customers they "can't find" their charts. This place is a joke. I'm back because my prescription isn't working out. The initial exam was so fast that I wondered then if he'd done it right. I think it's safer for me to get a refund and go somewhere else. I would not recommend coming here unless you are just purchasing contacts with a prescription from somewhere else. These people dont care about your time. I haven't heard one apology from any staff for the long delay yet (at this point) There's more... After sitting in the back for over an hour and witnessing 2 people that arrived after me go in for eye exams, I inquired. The receptionist, Rony said my file wasn't ever taken to the back. WHAT!! He's the person that I check in with and he's The person that should have taken my file. How dare he act like it wasn't him!! I asked for the manager and demanded a refund. I do not want to do business with this company. The manager said she was coming. After 15 minutes, i was helped by Deanne instead who by the way was very helpful and nice both the first time I came as well as this time. Another great staff is Helene. Like I said, some of the staff is very helpful but unfortunately the business as a whole needs teamwork training, a better communication system and professional doctors. I'll try somewhere else. Worst experience at an eye doctor thus far. The eye doctor had a smug demeanor. It took 3 weeks to get my daughter's glasses, then they gave my daughter glasses she could not see out of. The lab messed up the prescription order. IF my daughter was not old enough to say she could not see she would have just been wearing the wrong prescription all year. Being someone that work in Customer Service, it's quite disheartening giving this review. Needed to replace my hardware and contacts in August 2016 thus I scheduled an appointment at this location. Went in and had the most impersonal and clinical examination in history. The Eye doctor was done in less than 2 minutes and he send you off. I was told my trial contacts and hardware would be ready in 2 weeks. When I went in to pick up both items only the glasses was ready. Told to expect a call when the contacts is ready. The months of September, October and November went by and I get no call. Called them in December 5th and the lady told me they forgot to order my contacts but that she is placing an order for them ASAP. Picked them up on December 21. Went in for my follow up appointment on 29th and after waiting for two hours was told my file was missing. How ridiculous can it be that a new client of less than 6 months have her file missing and no one seem to have an answer. This is the worst eye service I have ever had. Moving my business after 8 years to LensCrafters or others. read more

The staff is very nice and you can tell they are trying to get things done, but nonetheless my experience has been horrible. I had my contacts ordered from there a week ago. Now they don't know if they are they're are not because they have to check with the inventory manger or something like that. On the phone they say that an eye exam cost $80 but they add an extra $15 dollars to that if you want to check your eyes to see if it has any eye related diseases. (Something any optician would do). So the eye exam bill actually comes out to $94. Instead of the advertised $80. And they still haven't called me to tell me my contacts are in, if I ordered them myself the process would have been a lot smoother. How does it sound when they say they don't know if your contacts were in or not and you paid $160 for them? Finally, the eye doctor is not that friendly! read more

I am a bit hesitant to leave 4 stars based on all the poor reviews!! However, I went last week to order my son's frames. I was happy with the selection--you get what you pay for!! This is not the place for designer frames. sorry Coach and Ray-Ban are not designer! This is what I call "Union Frames Galore!!" lol The service was good, not excellent, but the woman who helped us was friendly enough, remember we're in a strip mall in Lanham, not Madison Avenue. I liked how while you're trying on a whole bunch of frames no one bothers you or is breathing on top of you for a commission. I can't speak on the Dr, because we already had a rx, and just came in for frames. However, I would say management should get rid of rude staff. I am diabetic and need a special eye exam, so I won't go see Dr Rude. I already have a pair of Tom Ford's back at home, so this is always where I would come for the 2nd pair, the pair you wear to the amusement park, or to just bum around in. I liked how they still had all options such as polycarbonate, anti glare, and transitions. I am nervous to pick up my son's frames because I read in several reviews that they put in an incorrect rx!! However we will see. I go later to pick them up. So if you already have an rx in your hand, and don't want to spend a lot, or just need a spare set, I say give this place a shot!! read more

Had to return glasses because prescription wasn't right. Got them back still not right. Exam done by smug doctor that doesn't listen. Called manager and she apologized and scheduled and exam with a different doctor. I take off work and there are no notes in the system about my issues. The receptionist asks me how I was gonna pay and then takes my chart to the preliminary exam area which puts me behind four people. I sit there for 45 mins and just decide that this is too much and I just get my $400 back. I'll go spend my money where they are more professional. Had they taken care of me properly and not continue to inconvenience me I would not have gotten a refund. read more

I feel bad about giving a bad review to this place because the staff there is VERY NICE and they tried VERY hard. The problem is the primary eye doctor. I have never had a more deficient eye exam than I had here. It took about 2 minutes and I was shocked when he said he was done. It is true, he had me read about two lines of text and said that was it. He is also chronically late and sits in the location ignoring customers. Super bad attitude. My glasses were as deficient as the exam so the staff tried to remake them a second time. The second time, they were still terrible so they have a second eye doctor who comes in only on Mondays redo the exam. This second eye doctor was much, much better and after 5 visits and 3 tries on the glasses they got it right. Seriously, I was practically in tears by the fourth visit and they tried very hard to make it right. But the eye doctor is the worst ever and unfortunately, his exam is the basis of the glasses you get. Maybe he is following corporate policy on giving minimal exams but if so, corporate needs to review their standards. Or ask for the eye doctor who comes in one day a week on Mondays. He knows his stuff. EDIT: America's Best made a huge effort to contact me and make my experience better with them after my review. I can't really change my original experience that I had but I greatly appreciate the level of customer service that took place after the fact. I upgraded my rating from one star to three. I couldn't find the exact location on yelp but this America's Best is located on 9337 Annapolis Rd, Lanham in the Enterprize Shopping Plaza. I rarely go online and write reviews but the customer service I received at this location in this day and age was superb! From the time I walked into the store till the time I picked my glasses up, I saw nothing but smiles and attention. I got exactly what I needed and wanted from my glasses and for a fraction of the price from any other optical places. Do NOT go to this location. I used to go to the Takoma Park location for about 5 or 6 years and I absolutely loved the doctor there but unfortunately she left the company. Anyway, I went to the lanham location and the doctor was the most rude man I have ever come into contact with at any doctors office. My initial exam was just uncomfortable (he wasn't very talkative, didn't smile, etc.) I wrote it off to me being over sensitive but when I came back for my follow up exam he was so rude and we were basically yelling at each other in the office. Two of the female employees apologized to me and one of them said "is the doctor being rude again?" So obviously this is not an isolated incident. I don't understand how that man has a job. I will never go to another Americas Best again based on the treatment I got at this location. Everyone was so anti, and unfriendly. I didn't feel welcomed I walked in to associates talking. The doctor that took care of me I couldn't even tell you what his name was because he called my name in the waiting area and immediately walked off before I could even get up. I got in the room and he proceeded to get the eye exam going. No hello my name is.... or anything! I walked in the room at 11:29 and walked out at 11:35 with no explanation of how my eyes looked no suggestions on contacts or anything I was just told my sight was bad and to go sit until you are called. This was by far the worse experience EVER. I'm definitely going to schedule an appointment somewhere else to get my test done again even if it means paying. read more
