Took well over an hour to get 3 long rolls. And they were not busy. Two were OK. The salmon roll was mushy and had little flavor. The rolls were poorly made and at least half the pieces fell apart when we tried to eat them. The rice was not sushi quality. They don't seem to know what sushi is all about. The wait staff was nice but the chef, and I use that term generously, was busy talking instead of doing his job. It was a hot day but the A/C was up way too high. I've been going here since it's opened and think I just went for the last time. TWO rolls took over an hour. Staff sitting at the bar drinking (maybe they were off the clock) then hiding in the drink room to vape while customers are waiting for their food. Not a good look at all. The topper was being charged $1.50 to add lemon and jalapeño after waiting forever for the food! Used to be the best but has gone downhill for quite some time. Such a shame. This place is just going downhill. On average, it takes over an hour to get your sushi. Which may not be the case if the main sushi chef (also the owner) wasn't behind the sushi bar drinking the whole time. Servers are constantly running around doing damage control at their tables because people are waiting 60+ minutes for food and the owner is chatting it up with his buddies who sit at the sushi bar and they're all drinking together. The entree we ordered came out and half of it was missing. No one ever returned to the table to check on us so we just paid and left. The sushi rolls are what's killing this place though. You know it's bad when the only Asian couple in the restaurant sends their food back, gets up and walks out without paying. No joke. My son and I really saw this happen. As soon as our food arrived, we understood why. We ordered the Amerikan Combo which comes with 2 eggrolls, 4 gyoza, and 4 tempura shrimp...they were all store bought frozen junk, and they were disgusting. We also ordered the Fuji Mountain roll and the California Rainbow roll...both were inedible - the fish was of such poor quality, I feared getting sick from it. Whatever they use for their "wasabi" has an unnatural green color which is only surpassed by it's bizarre grainy texture. They use the funky pink ginger that I'm sure some people like but does not suit my pallet. The thing is, if they charged less for their food, I probably wouldn't be so critical of them - sort of a "you get what you pay for" sort of thing. But they charge legitimate "sushi" prices and the quality of food is terrible. The only thing good I can say about this place is that the people who worked there seem to be very friendly. I had heard nice things about this place so I'm not sure if the people who told me it was good have just never had good sushi and think this is good or if something has changed at the restaurant. The last several times I've been in this restaurant, the service has been horribly slow. We sat for over an hour on multiple occasions waiting for our food. The to go orders seem to be filled first, and the in house diners have to wait. The food is good and the staff is friendly, but we were so irritated by the time our food came, it spoiled the experience. This has happed at both lunch and dinner time. The last time we were in for lunch and the table next to us had to leave because they were on their lunch break and couldn't wait any longer. Was seated at a small table for two when the whole restaurant was empt. Ordering beer was really challenging server came back three time telling us they did not have that in stock. Food was just ok!!! Then a bus boy come by ask my husband if he could take a plater away my husband said yes, but he proceeded to clear the whole table. This is my favorite sushi spot!! All of the people that work there are so on it and very friendly. They make sure to greet you and say bye when you leave. The staff are all very attentive and working hard. That is a very rare trait these days. All of the rolls i have ordered have been delicious. They have a great lunch combo meal as well. The service was horrible the waiters were constantly on there cell phones not paying attention to any of the customers to the point that the sushi chef had to help us get our drinks. I've been having some bad luck ordering take out lately and from places that many people recommend. Unfortunately, Amerikan Ichi is one of those places. Got 3 different sushi rolls plus a side of takoyaki balls here recently. My boyfriend and I were so excited to get home to dig in, but after a few bites, we realized how horrible the sushi rolls were. Bland, non-fresh-tasting fish and other ingredients, sushi rice didn't have that authentic umami sushi rice flavor and consistency it should have - really the only decent part of our meal were the takoyaki balls. We should have just ordered 10 of those. So irritated places can be so inconsistent. Is it because of Covid? I mean..how hard is it to make sushi with fresh, quality ingredients?? Wow!! Just happened to be driving through on our way home from Tahoe and was going to check out the teriyaki joint that is in the same shopping center but they happened to be closed. We are so happy we ended up here! The hand rolls were stuffed full and delicious. The fire roll we subbed spicy tuna vs the spicy krab and it was huge and delicious. The tempura was the largest portion we have ever ordered. My only complaint was the sunomono salad was just a whole cucumber with the skin left on diagonally cut 1/4" thick with the smallest amount of marinade. I've never had a cucumber salad like that and sent it back. The waiter said there was a new chef and that could have been why...but I wouldn't order again. I guess they have an all you can eat for $30/person and had an extensive selection you can choose from and would love to try it! Nice thing there is a Starbucks in the same shopping center so you can grab some coffee before you get back on the road. (Trust me you will be so stuffed, you will need it to stay awake) read more

I went here when they first opened in the early afternoon, sat at the sushi bar, and told the sushi chef that I loved all types of sushi and let him make what he wished. What I received was a series of the most incredible nigiri I have ever experienced. It was gorgeous in appearance and spectacular in flavor. The flavor was layered and elegant. They know how to bring the heat which I absolutely love! The quality of the fish is superb and the professionalism of the sushi chef was exemplary. I think about how incredible the meal I had here was often and cannot wait to go back. First of all, I hate writing bad reviews. I only do it when I feel absolutely necessary. We just finished our lunch here this afternoon and unfortunately, it was no where near worth the $70 we spent there. We sat at the bar which was fine, the sushi chef was friendly and a big reason why I couldn't just give 2 stars... We ordered bento boxes, which I rarely do, but I'm glad I did because at least the teriyaki chicken and rice was edible. The gyoza were okay, but the salad had only a ponzu-like sauce which wasn't good, and the roll was gross. Sorry. I could only take 2 bites which is extremely rare for me since I'll even eat Safeway sushi. Lol. As soon as we stepped out I told my boyfriend "I don't think I'll EVER eat there again!"
