Delicious!!!!! Absolutely loved the bento boxes! Soooo yummy! Loved the Hawaiian chicken, miso soup, salad, rice, lily roll and gyoza! Such a great value and variety! My fiance loved his as well with the Godzilla roll. The young lady was so sweet, nice and friendly and she did an amazing job but she got super busy and I think it would have been helpful for her to have another server to help. Everything about this place was a joke, and it's honestly unbelievable that it's still open. The staff were completely unprofessional, rude, and disorganized. We were served by four different people who had no clue what the others were doing, which made the whole visit chaotic and confusing. Now that I've read other reviews, I wouldn't be surprised if some staff were drinking on the job. They were hanging out behind the sushi bar, behaving inappropriately, and openly flirting with the sushi chef. No one working there was Japanese, and the food was nowhere near authentic. In fact, it was downright disgusting. It was also dirty--the staff clearly did not follow basic hygiene or cleaning rules. No one was wearing gloves while handling food, and the entire prep area behind the bar looked neglected and unsanitary. It honestly made me question whether anything we ate was safe. It took 45 minutes to get a simple miso soup because they had run out and were scrambling to make more. The menu is full of strange, strict rules--yet somehow the table next to us got special treatment and was served items that were "not available" to us. Obvious favoritism. In the end, we wasted $70 on garbage food, bad attitudes, a filthy environment, and one of the most unpleasant dining experiences I've had in a long time. I will never be back. And frankly, unless they make some serious changes, I don't see this place staying open much longer. read more

First, they are not cheap at all. Second, they have sushi chef on wheels along with one attending waitress. At first, she said if we ordered things NOT sushi, then it only takes 15 mins for the chef to cook. Sushi would be a 45-50 minutes wait. Your posted hours said you would open at 12 noon, but when I got there, the note on the door said closed until 4:30. This is not the first time this has happened. I love American Ichi! I've been eating here at least once a month for over 15 years. The Mexican-Japanese fusion wasn't something I would have gone looking for on my own,especially not in Placerville,but it works beautifully. My personal favorites are the Tom, Typhoon, and Macho rolls. Just a word of warning: if you ask for extra spicy, the chefs can (and will) go beyond the menu's heat rating if you push them! read more

We used to come here all the time until a few years ago on Father's Day. I think we waited over an hour and a half for our food and there was only two other tables with customers at that time. We decided to try it again tonight and it was very disappointed! It was a Wednesday night and it was 55 minute wait for takeout. My husband went to pick it up, he said there wasn't very many customers not sure why it was a 55 minute wait. I ordered the Sakura and it wasn't even made correctly. It was really dry! There were 2 tables sat with 2 people at each table. It took a while just to order and then an hour to get our food. The sushi rolls we ordered were not as they were described or we had in the past. Furthermore, they didn't bring our child's food and then said it wasn't on the ticket even though I order was read back to us prior to submitting it to the chefs. When they brought his order of chicken and rice, it was fried rice with chicken cut up in it. Barely any chicken and very small. No refills while we were there and the wait staff huddled around the front counter for social time the entire time we were there. The waitress then brought the bill knowing dinner was a disaster and asked if we were going to tip. This actually set off people at tables beside us who looked at my wife and mouthed WTF. There were only our party and another couple seated & a person in the bar as customers. I heard the other party inquired on how much long her their order is going to take. So the server asked the sushi chef, and he replied something like "this is not fast food, it hasn't even been 30 minutes". And when they were done eating and asked for a box, the chef then said that they should have eaten in McDonalds or Burger King across the street. I've never seen nor experienced this kind of rudeness from a restaurant staff. It was shocking and disappointing. Although we did not personally experience the bad service, I felt bad for the other customer, but they remained polite and respectful despite the chef's attitude. When I told the staff it was not what we ordered, they stated "oh we're out of that". That's fine. But tell me when I order it, not when you bring it out to me an hour and a half after I order it. One of the rolls I ordered was supposed to have avocado and crab in the center. They were out of avocado so they substituted it with lettuce, and didn't tell me. Tried to order hot sake, they were out. Tried to order Sapporo, they were out. Ordered a sashimi platter with Salmon, when the platter came out there was zero salmon and it was replaced with something else, like I wasn't supposed to notice... when I asked the server, she had to go ask the chef, who advised that they were... you guessed it.. "out". Bathrooms had urine all over the seat, toilet paper all over the ground. I feel bad for the servers. It's not their fault. I've never left a restaurant without leaving a tip.
