This is a sushi restaurant that needs to be revisited over and over When I read some of the other YELP reviews, I was on the fence, but the pictures were very tempting, and that was enough to draw me in When we arrived, there were definitely a few people waiting for tables, but they graciously seated us immediately. Service is definitely slow, but it's clear that they are so incredibly busy and turning out fabulous food, the patient is definitely a virtue. Waiting a few extra minutes for a delectable dish is absolutely worth it. Diners tip: they have a pretty extensive menu, and part of that menu they offer 50% off rolls! They do not cheap out! We ordered two rolls to share thinking that we could always order more if needed. Two rolls was absolutely plenty for two people to share. We ordered the rainbow lobster roll from their special off the menu/menu The rainbow lobster roll is not only gorgeous to look at, but it is a phenomenal role. And, get this it's only $23! It's is loaded with the freshest fish. Salmon, Hamachi, tuna, ebi,lobster, and yummy sauces! It's absolutely delectable and my mouth waters. Just thinking about how delicious this roll is. Our other roll is the Hoss roll. Fried shrimp, cream cheese, crabmeat, lightly torched salmon, with avocado. This is the deliciousness that we all want out of a sushi roll. Both of these rolls were absolutely amazing! The Hoss roll is also loaded with fresh fish. The shrimps are a really nice size, and each bite was better than the last. This is really an amazing role, especially because this one being 50% off my expectations were so low, and my expectations were completely exceeded by the rolls and the restaurant. They have their own parking lot that is shared with businesses in the strip center, but there's plenty of free parking. I've been to Umi sushi several times for lunch as I work nearby. I recommend their lunch menu and their 50% off rolls menu. The fish is not of the highest or freshest quality, but it's a nice place to get lunch and affordable. You can order the food online and pay when you get there. They do take a while to make your order, at least 20-30 minutes so I would order online ahead of time. Here are some of the items I've tried: 1. Umi sushi roll - good, but there is too much sauces. Even as a sauce person, it was a little too much. Probably to mask the quality of the fish. $12.69 2. Angry tuna roll - my favorite out of everything I've tried. Not too much sauces, and you can pour soy sauce on it to give it a little more flavor. $11.65 3. VIP combo - comes with salmon and tuna nigiri, which were gigantic. Rainbow and one other roll. I can't remember the name but it's on the online menu. Very solid and can feed two people. Comes with a side and I got a miso soup. $18.95 Overall, it's a solid place to get lunch, but don't expect anything special or high quality fish. Sometimes, they do take longer than the time you set for pick up. One time I got a text message it was ready, but when I came, it was not and I had to wait an extra 10 minutes. read more

We arrived at 6:30 p.m., and our orders were taken immediately, but the first dishes didn't arrive for 40 minutes. The first sashimi followed 5 minutes later. The all-tuna sashimi was disappointing--just one variety of tuna that appeared to have been sliced from a frozen block. Several pieces still contained ice crystals and were virtually flavorless. The Pepper Fin, normally a beautifully presented dish, arrived looking like small piles of fish with scattered jalapeño slices. The presentation was very disappointing. Our next three sushi rolls took another 40plus minutes, but only two were ever served. Both looked hastily thrown onto the plate, although they were very tasty. After more than 1 hour and 45 minutes, our final roll never arrived. Overall, a very disappointing experience with few highlights. My previous visit earned this restaurant a glowing review, but after this experience, I can no longer recommend it. read more

My friend brought me here. Ever since then, this place became our go-to spot when we're in the area (we live 2 hours away). Staff is always delightful to see you and they try to seat you as soon as possible, as long as there's an available spot. We ordered volcano, OMG, Umi roll and a couple of more. I forgot the name. They always hit the spot! The only thing I would change is to lighten up on the sauces. I want to taste the fish but my tastebuds is drowning with the sauces... Back to inconsistency... I recently updated my review with 5 stars because dining at the sushi bar made for incredible rolls. Got takeout yesterday and the rolls were made messy and then packed sloppily. The taste was not nearly as good as they usually are. Not sure if it was the sushi rice, or the fish, but the rolls were definitely not up to par this time. Sometimes it is just me thinking something tastes off, but this time my husband totally agreed. I am guessing it is a different person making the rolls, but I really expect consistency. It's a bummer because I wasn't eating sushi last year so was revving up for going regularly this year. I really wanted to love this place, but it was a mixed experience. Service was very sparse -- I found myself wondering if they might have been short-staffed that day. The rolls were huge -- definitely generous on portion -- and the fish seemed fresh enough. Unfortunately, the rolls didn't hold together at all. The rice wasn't sticky and the only way I can describe it is that the rolls felt very moist, which just wasn't appealing to us. The restaurant itself was clean, but a bit worn around the edges. First time at Umi Sushi. Boy, were pleasantly surprised. Excellent service and the sushi was exquisitely prepared. We had the Volcano Roll. The preparation of the sushi took longer than the other sushi we ordered and cost a dollar more. But the actual preparation was amazing. We also ordered the Crazy Horse Roll. Three types of fish. You have to order this roll. Tasting the three different fish makes your day. So yummy. This roll deserves 6 stars. And, the rolls were 50% off! For Umi Sushi, I can say for its quality and food presentation, the price for this art is a steal! Umi Sushi had a LOT of sushi options at half price!In the end, we ordered the 3 item bentos (you get more for your buck compared to 2 items); for sushi we opted for ones we do not usually see: Orange Blossom, Hoss Roll and Chucky Roll. Also ordered green tea which was bottomless. The bento box has huge servings; you get 8 pieces of california rolls if selected! The sushi was fresh and tasty. I love the Orange Blossom which consists of crabmeat and salmon with no rice. Their green tea sure complimented the food. We were so full and yet still had some left overs to-go. I was surprised to see my tab, it sure was way less that what I expected for Japanese restaurant. Highly recommended Umi Sushi! It is now our go to place whether on our way or coming home from Tahoe. It's about half a mile from the 50 Freeway exits, but it is so worth it! It's just such a bummer that they are opened at 1pm on Saturdays (while they are open at 11am on other days) and closed in Sundays. We missed a few opps to stop by because of this. Random pick after coming from Tahoe. We weren't too hungry but getting there. We got there at the right time, though we waited about 20 min. We were the only ones waiting at the time. Many people kept coming in and out and the waitress had to explain that it would take 45 min to an hour. The restaurant is small, but it was packed. Nothing fancy. There were only 2 waitresses and 2 sushi bar chefs. Service was good though. They were pleasant and efficient. However, our orders didn't come out until 45 min later; and there were many who didn't get their food yet. By then I was starving. We ordered the king lobster, Cherry Blossom, Lion King Roll, Rainbow Roll...and a bunch I can't remember. 7 rolls for ~$90. There's half off menu but it's not really half off because they would say a roll is like $20 originally and then it would be $10. The rolls were huge though. I could only finish about a roll and a quarter. The quality is decent. The fish was fresh. My king losbster's tail was only a decoration. I'm assuming the fried stuff inside was the lobster. I'm not really a fan of deep fried stuff, just making me more full. Overall it seems like a good place. I'm not sure what else is in the area to compare. There appears to be a decent amount of indoor seating (none outside) and parking was easy since it's located in an outdoor shopping center. I went here because it was recommended by a fellow celiac as the best sushi. I was very impressed by the options available and the gluten-free menu was vast. We ordered takeout and my family got traditional rolls like the dragon etc. The hostess recommend that I get the King Salmon roll. Honestly I was so hungry by the time I got to eat I didn't even savour the meal. It took 90 mins to get our order after they said we can pick up in 45mins. I still managed to let my phone eat first. It was really beautiful. The restaurant is really small and it seemed packed. Overall this was a good sushi place with a great chef that was very personable and very attentive to the customers who were sitting at the sushi bar. The fish was fresh and was the rolls were a pretty good size and certainly filled me up. The chef served me good sizes of fish and a little more than I have seen at other restaurants which great to see and experience. The ambiance was nice and has a good local but upscale and quiet feel to it but causal enough to walk in and gym clothes and enjoy a quick sushi meal. But I stumbled to this little hide away as I was leaving Target with my kiddos . So we feasted, embarrassing as I must say I ordered 2 rolls. They are huge , mouth watering delicious. Yes, I ate them both. I couldn't help myself. Well so did the kids, not what I was expecting . Another family favorite. We had the garlic edamame, rainbow roll, another roll (I forgot the name), miso soup and nigiri. The nigiri and rolls were phenomenal! Hubs went there this week for take out and the quality wasn't quite the same but sushi take out is never as good as dine in, so I'm not sure. The price for the rolls are affordable, so I decided to order 3 rolls. I waited close to 30 mins until I got my food. - Shrimp tempura roll: good. Shrimp tempura was crunchy. The sauce was kinda overwhelming the sushi. - Spider roll: delicious! The big chunk of soft shell crab was crispy. But again, I wish they didn't put too much sauce on top. - Dragon roll: delicious! Generous avocado on top but the unagi was just small amount. Overall, good sushi rolls that are affordable. I wish they didn't slather the sauce on top of sushi as it was overpowering the roll itself. I will be back to try other rolls. read more

The food is good but the wait for pickup or dine in is sooooo loooooong. If you are not in a rush and want some decent Japanese food ... this is the place for you. Unfortunately since the pandemic, they have always taken quite awhile to get the food out of the kitchen. I called in an order for pickup on a weekday evening. I ordered a two item bento box. They said it will be ready in 30 minutes. So I showed up 34 minutes after I called. They said it will be a couple of more minutes. So I sit and wait and wait and wait. In total, it took 54 minutes to get my order from the time I called it in. Now I have to drive home to eat it. Not quite the 30 minute quote. It was double that time. As I sat in the lobby, I noticed the same cashier tell every call in order that it would be ready in 30 minutes. Oh boy! The saba shioyaki did not quite look or taste like true shioyaki. It did not have the crisp crunchy crust and salty taste. It was good grilled mackerel though, just not shioyake. The chicken katsu was good. The sauce tasted and looked watered down. Hmmm. I have ordered this previously and it tasted way better. The food was ok. The bento box comes with miso soup and salad. The salad is mainly iceberg lettuce with a few sad carrot shavings. read more
