The best dentist have encountered in my long life is Dr. Bagdasarov at Amherst Dental Group. He repaired my wife's badly chipped incisor so well that I couldn't see the difference between the repair material and the original tooth. I have asked many staff members there who their dentist is and each has said Bagdasarov. He's the best kind of perfectionist. read more

First, the positive: My dental hygienist was great. There wasn't much that needed to be done, but, for what there was, she did it quickly and without any pain whatsoever. Yay! The not so positive: 1) Must make an appointment months in advance. If you have to get an exam and a cleaning done, they will try to schedule you on two separate days for these, because everybody loves taking extra time off work; and once they do schedule them on the same day, your two appointments are still likely to be at least an hour separate, so bring something interesting to read while you waste your time in their waiting room. 2) Will not allow you to schedule a cleaning without first undergoing a "full exam", even if you can't get x-rays and even though their own dentist concedes that without the x-rays the "exam" is basically useless. Said dentist will want you to come in and get it all done again when you can get x-rays, like your insurance company is going to love/pay for that. 3) If you can't get x-rays, they's a chance they're going to call you (multiple times!) while you are at work and demand to that you share private medical information with them, while you are at work, so that they can decide if you have a "good enough" reason to not get x-rays. 4) If your male spouse also goes here, be prepared for them to treat you like his dependent/chattel, including: them putting him down as your "responsible party" ie parent/guardian, even if you have your own job and separate insurance; condescendingly explaining to you what a consent form is, because they assume you must have made a mistake when you did not agree to let your husband access all of your medical information; co-mingling your billing with your husband, even though you have separate insurance; addressing your bill/procedure summary to your husband, even though he is not present and you did not consent to share your medical info with him. Fun! 5) Intake paperwork also asks for weird personal info they don't need, like your employer and SSN. Identity theft is no joke, kids, there's no reason to be spreading this around just for curiosity's sake! 6) Be prepared for weird, condescending questions about your medical history, like extended questioning on if you're "sure" you have a serious, near-fatal allergy to something, and whether you've "tried" something in the same family -- just to find out whether or not that will kill you, I guess? You know, for curiosity's sake. 7) If you don't floss, even if you have no dental problems and your teeth/gums are in near-perfect condition and even though there's no scientific evidence to support the idea that there's any benefit to home-flossing, prepare yourself for an extended lecture on how you NEED to floss, which is likely to include your dentist trying to shove his hands into your mouth to show you HOW to floss, as though perhaps you, a grown-ass adult, haven't been doing it all of this time simply because it's such a difficult and intimidating task. 8) Strong air freshener in the waiting room. I thought we'd all agreed, as a society, that this was rude to people with allergies and chemical sensitivities? read more

I have been going here for over 10 years. Loved my hygienist Kelly but that being said, It has been one mistake after another from a botched crown ( that I had to pay out of pocket 9 years later to replace ) to a small front tooth chip that left me with a now crooked looking front tooth. When a filling needed to be replaced my " dentist " cracked the tooth while drilling. It was the most painful thing I have experienced even with Novocaine. I was then told the tooth would have to be extracted as I could no longer chew on that side, I waited almost a year to get a second opinion from a local dentist and I'm glad I did! He said the crack was right there on the X-ray Amherst Dental took, it only needed a new filling. Long story short, they are nice but look around, I don't think this is a knowledgeable dental practice. read more

I've been going here, seeing Shari Weldon, for a few years now. I have cleanings every six months but only see her once a year. I chose Amherst Dental because of its convenient location (right by a bus stop on Main Street), and that's the main reason I've stayed. I've had a couple fillings done and they're not the best I've had, though the total number is hard to have good statistics on. Often the feel is rough and the bite uneven, and I've had to go back to have Dr. Weldon regrind or polish them. I don't think it's entirely that I'm too picky, as I've had my share of fillings done elsewhere in the past, and never remember having a problem like this before. Appointments must be made far in advance for anything other than the preventive checkups. If a cavity is found at a checkup, you might have to wait a month or two before getting it filled. For checkups and general experience, they're not bad but certainly not above average in any way. For my personal experience with Weldon's fillings, I'd say below average. I've continued with them due to inertia and hassle of transferring xrays and records to another place, and the fact that I haven't had any good recommendations of any other nearby dentists. read more

Went here based on the yelp reviews. They were spot on. Had a cleaning and a checkup at first and was very impressed with how cordial and genuinely happy all the staff were. Turns out i needed filling and scheduled for the following week. Went back for fillings a week later with Dr Bagdasarov. I don't know exactly, but he has the perfect mix of compassion and no nonsense professionalism. I really got the feeling that he was just really really good at what he does. Concentrates at what he does but doesnt seem to over concentrate, which makes me nervous. Everything he did seemed very calculated and deliberate, which was reassuring and calming. I really liked him. It was a very relaxing environment considering, no one wants to get fillings. When i got there the receptionist actually recognized me from the week before and greeted me by name. Very good. The 5 stars they routinely get are well earned. read more

Dr. van der Velden and crew are funny, down-to-Earth and generally awesome -- I can't imagine a better dental experience.

My 2 daughters have been going to this practice for a few years now, and we have had nothing but great experiences. Everyone is very sweet and helpful. The hygienists have a really good manner with kids and the office seems efficient and well run, no mess-ups. read more

Watch Out!! I recently asked to return to this office as a new patient since we now have dental insurance accepted here and we had been patients for many years. Isabelle, the office coordinator would not sanction our return because I had a disagreement with her, the details I cannot even remember. The dentists and hygienists are very professional and courteous, however, Isabelle is a tyrant who abuses her position and is very unprofessional!! read more

As usual, I had a good visit with Amherst Dental. I'm glad I arrived a few minutes early, since my hygienist, Kelly Pope, was ready for me ahead of time. My cleaning, and a checkup by Dr. Shari Weldon, both went quickly and efficiently, as did scheduling appointments for an impression and installation of a new crown for a dental implant. I've been a patient there for over a decade, and I've been happy the whole time, both for routine care and for a couple of chipped and broken teeth (darn olive pits). read more

Since Jeffrey's passing a few years ago I now see Dr. Fred Perry who is terrific. All the staff there are exceptional, and my hygienist Debbie is superb. I love Amherst Dental. read more
