I visited the clinic for the first time in July. I was attended to by the dental assistant Neicha who was lovely and attentive. However, Doctor K who later came to check on my teeth was very obviously uninterested in her patient, and condescending. She said since I haven't had cleaning in a dental clinic in more than a year (I did not have dental insurance but took very good care of my teeth), have weak gum and a cavity I should schedule to have 2 cleanings within 2 weeks and for filling. Upon hearing that I have a cavity, I asked where the cavity was to which she said mumbled something I couldn't hear. I wanted to ask for more information on exactly which tooth it was on, how serious it is but when I sat up and turn around, she was already GONE! While checking my teeth, she also made some unpleasant comment about my gum, alluding that it was because I didn't get my annual cleaning. Later, when speaking to the Patient Care Coordinator Chrissy about scheduling and prices, she was very demeaning. I stated a few concerns about my teeth in the form and so she went over the available procedures to address them. She recommended that I should get the occlusal guard. When I found out that it cost $700+, I expressed that since it is too expensive I will not get it. She started looking and speaking to me like she is very unimpressed and displeased with me. When I asked if there is any other procedure available for teeth-whitening besides the one she showed me, she replied that, "we only offer high quality procedure here. well, you can go for those cheap products that they have in the market but they are not effective ......" after which point I was so shocked to listen to what she said. I merely wanted to know if there were other options/ procedures than the one she mentioned. Throughout our interaction she made me feel like I was an irresponsible person who doesn't care about my teeth and she was being "nice" by pushing me to do teeth whitening, filling, and cleaning. I later found out that I never needed 2 cleanings in 2 weeks. However, that is not the worst yet. I went there because I thought the dental clinic was in-network in my dental plan, but not anymore. They kept the information from me when I asked if they accepted my dental plan. I ended up having to pay out of pocket for the services I had when I thought it was fully covered by my dental insurance. Before leaving, Chrissy even had the gut to give me their business cards and ask me to recommend their clinic to my friends and family. NO WAY! read more

I have been going to this practice for the past two years and every time that I go the service keeps getting better and better. It had been six years since I had gone to get a dental cleaning to start it off. So far I have received my every six month cleaning since then , professional whitening job, some cosmetic work on my front teeth where I had a gap. They also took me an on short notice and did a very thorough cleaning Just in time for my wedding. And I received many compliments about how white my teeth were, which I had never received in my life. And all the visits I have been very pleased with. The last time I went in they put ice packs on my eyes and paraffin wax On my hands with relaxing music while I got my teeth cleaned. Staff is always friendly and kind.for the first time in my life, I'm not afraid to go to the dentist and look forward to the cleaning every six months. read more

We were looking for a dentist for our grandson that could provide both excellent care and be sensitive to his fear of having dental work. Triangle Family Dental was suggested by a friends and I'm so grateful we found this amazing clinic. The staff at the clinic were responsive to all of our needs, the patient and anxious family members. We received clear information about the costs and offered various options for paying the bill. This was an awful dental experience. I can't say I like going to the dentist but this made my feelings even worse. After having my teeth x rayed in an extremely painful manner (literally teared up and I'm not that big of a wuss) the dentist decided I needed to get a cap replaced. The dental hygienist struggled but finally made the mold and temporary cap. When I had the procedure to cement and place the real cap, things got worse. They hygienist spend 10 minutes trying to fit it, finally it worked. When the dentist came in she didn't ask anything but jumped right in...not knowing about the fitting issue. When she added cement it wouldn't fit - obviously. She tried getting the excess cement out from between my teeth, looked at her watch and LEFT. The dentist LEFT as in, left the building in the middle of my appointment without saying anything to me. I had a second appointment because the hygienist that was trying to remove the cement tore up my cheek and lips. They did not remove all the cement and I still have trouble even getting floss though the tooth. I will not go back and would not recommend this place. read more

I had an extremely unsavory experience at Triangle Family Dental. Summary: DO NOT USE THIS DENTIST. I should begin by saying that I am a regular brusher/flosser, and have been told by my fiancé as well as other family members/friends that my habits are borderline OCD when it comes to good dental hygiene. Further, I never miss the opportunity for my dental insurance to cover a semi-annual cleaning. I'm new to the area, and recently went to Triangle Family Dental for my semi-annual cleaning. I was asked to arrive 30 minutes prior to my appointment to fill out new patient paperwork (which I did.) After this, my appointment ran approximately 2 hours: approximately 1 hour and 59 minutes of which was spent with the dental hygienist. Yes, you heard me, one hour and fifty nine minutes. And this was only because when I realized how long I had been sitting there, I lied and said I had a meeting and had to leave soon. She noted that that would not be enough time for an appointment and that I should have scheduled ahead for this. The dental hygienist (DH) spent the duration of the cleaning criticizing every single one of my dental hygiene habits, including but not limited to the following statements: 1) DH: "It seems you are not holding the brush correctly. You should be brushing at a 45 degree angle. From the looks of it you are probably approaching your teeth at a 90 degree angle." Whoops. 2) DH: "No, you are not flossing correctly - dentists never show people the correct way to floss - I'm going to teach you. Has any other dentist ever told you that your level of plaque is a cause for concern?" What? No...never in my life have I been criticized for my plaque...dentists usually say something like "looks good in there - floss more - cya in 6 months." (love you, dentists from my past.) 3) DH: "you have a huge chip in your tooth and need an overlay - oh, that costs roughly several hundred dollars (after insurance deductions.) No, we can't fix it with bonding" (I should note that I have had this chip for about 10 years and dentists have always fixed it with bonding for me (I've never had to pay anything out of pocket for it.) 4) DH: "Your teeth are too white - do you bleach" Me: "Yes, I have used crest white strips a few times throughout my life." DH: "Stop - You've ruined the enamel on your teeth." (OH SNAP) 5) (periodically throughout the appointment) DH: "Your plaque levels are really surprising me - I am going to recommend a periodontal wash with fluoride to see if we can fix the destruction caused by your poor brushing style." (I'd like to point out that when I checked out at the receptionist desk she noted nothing about a payment for the periodontal wash.) The DH finishes, and the dentist comes in with a grumpy look on her face. She doesn't introduce herself, and spends approximately 1 minute poking around my mouth. She identifies a cavity that must be fixed "IMMEDIATELY." She then leaves without so much as a smile or goodbye. At this point, I'm just flabbergasted. I've spent 2 hours of my life at this establishment. I stop at the receptionist desk on my way out where she calls me the wrong name not once, but two times. At this point I've pretty much had enough. I scheduled an appointment for a second opinion at another dentist in the area, and when I called Triangle Family Dental to have my x-rays sent over, they noted that they would have to charge me a fee to do this (and could not simply email them to the new office.) What? I have never heard this in my life (maybe I have been blessed with good dentists in the past...) Also, that bottle of periodontal wash I noted in point 5 above? $30. I've been going to Triangle Family Dental Spa for nearly 12 years for both routine visits and specialty visits (I.e. fillings, etc.). I've always received great treatment, and care. Everyone at Triangle has been great to interact with and have always made me feel at ease; regardless of the purpose of my visit. I have referred several friends to this office, and will continue to do so as they offer excellent quality care in a welcoming environment! read more

Love this practice. Love Dr. K's appraoch, honestly and kindness. She explained to me in simple language what is going on with my teeth and what needs to happen. She is very gentle; and the use of nitrous also helped. I have been going to her practice for the past 15 years and will not see any other dentist. My wife, twin sons, and I have been going to this dentist for many years. I started because I teach at the high school next door, but stayed due to friendly receptionists (Chrissy and Brenna), beautiful office (filled with orchids, nice furniture, art, sunny), fabulous dental hygienists (Vanessa is supremely talented, takes her job very seriously, and is kind), and Dr. K's efficient and knowledgeable manner. Both of our children like the toys, books, games, prizes, and nice staff and never complain about going to the dentist. One of our sons is on the autism spectrum and they've been great with him. I like the free paraffin hand treatments and lavender scented towels, too. I don't get why some people are such haters--I can't think of many dentists' offices as good as this one. read more

My family has used dentist Khodadoust's practice for about a decade. As a technician she is superb, but you need to be aware of her zeal for money. (1) If you have preexisting amalgam fillings, she will press you very hard to replace them despite that they are the preferred fillings of dental insurers and remain approved by the ADA. She has strong views about the danger of mercury they present. Remember that disturbing a perfectly serviceable filling presents risk, however carefully it is done, and keeping one may present a continuing risk. Get a second opinion before entering into an extensive program of replacement. This is a major revenue center of her practice, and your interests and her interests may not coincide. (2) She recommended three fillings on baby teeth, but our second opinion told us that two of the teeth only needed to be kept-an-eye-on, and the other dentist could not locate any damage to the third tooth. (3) She is a master in creating crowns that fit and are comfortable, but if she advises you that a crown needs to be replaced, you must get a second opinion to avoid a financial conflict of interest: The decision may not be as clear-cut as she would like you to believe. (4) This dentist has a collection of high-priced mouth-wash, electric tooth brushes, tooth-whitening machines, et cetera. She or her staff will push you hard to purchase them. Ask for the name of a model that is available in stores or on the internet, or to write a prescription. You will avoid unnecessary expenses, and may find that shopping elsewhere will be covered by your prescription plan. On the same topic, If you are told that you are grinding your teeth at night and need an expensive custom-made device, think twice before you sign-up for one: You will probably stop using it after a couple of nights, and you may not actually need one today in any case. (You may have damaged your teeth years ago, but are no longer a grinder.) In summary: This dentist is a first-rate practitioner, but her business model is much more aggressive than is customary in Western Massachusetts. Caveat emptor! read more

Do not trust this place! I am a student at Mount Holyoke college, and needed a dentist nearby. I normally go to my dentist in NY, who I have been going to for years and who I trust. I was reluctant to go to a new dentist, especially one I have never been to before, but believed that most dentists were honest people. I chose Triangle because why not? At first, the staff was extremely friendly and welcoming. I got a good vibe from this place, expecting fair service and transparency. First alarm bell: being offered expensive COSMETIC treatments that were not needed. I come from a poor black family, and already the dental insurance is staggering. Doctor K offered me a cosmetic gem to glue to one of my teeth as a fashion statement. She kept pushing it on me, telling me they're selling out like crazy. It was uncomfortable, when's the last time your dentist tried to sell you a fashion piece? It was so strange. I came for an annual cleaning, not to be upselled! I was told I had a few cavities, so in later appointments I got them filled. It was after the 3rd filling or so Dr. K told me I had a teeth grinding problem. Never in my entire life have I ever heard that. I was told I clench my teeth when I sleep and it is wearing down my teeth, FALSE. I was told I would need to order a "custom night guard" at which the extremely condescending Chrissy told me it would cost around $400 out of pocket!!! When I went back to NY over the weekend, I went to my trusted dentist. They said Triangle was blatantly upselling me. I will never go back again. Customer care Chrissy may seem nice at first, but she is very condescending and fake. You know when you interact with someone who immediately makes you feel uncomfortable and almost analyzed? That's how she makes me feel. The hygenist and other receptionists were very nice, but she gives me very bad vibes. read more

I would like to state right away that I'm reviewing a visit from about four years ago, can't quite remember the exact date. But it's that length of time that is causing me to write this. My experience here was horrible. My primary memory is of Dr. Khodadoust sweating heavily over me during the entire examination. She made a lot of negative comments about my breath and ended up recommending their mouthwash product that you could get with a prescription from a dentist for half the price. What really made me question the practice was when she told me that I had a few cavities that would need to be filled. That's when I decided to go elsewhere in Amherst. Three different dentist offices and four or so years later, I have yet to have a cavity. I don't trust places like this and maybe their practices have changed but there are at least two dentist offices in Amherst that I would highly recommend that I don't think there's a need to play russian roulette with this one. read more
