Horrible. Been going here on and off for about the past year and a half. At first it was a great experience and great food. Around the third time we went the food was still good but a day after we had visited this establishment, my husband noticed that there was a suspicious PayPal charge to his account. We normally use cash when we go out, rarely do we pay with a card, so it wasn't hard to narrow down the possible places that could have scammed the card. Nevertheless we were craving Italian again, and said screw it we will try them again, hopefully that person isn't working there anymore. BIG MISTAKE!!! Food was subpar, customer service was horrible. The waitress acted as if it was in inconvenience to serve us. The only time the waitress showed any sort of emotion was when she saw the tip and smiled and said thanks. Not one to complain much we didn't stay long, didn't do any returns to kitchen, paid the check and left. Once home I happened to look at the receipt and noticed that the waitress did a split check on me and my husband ( without asking) and then i noticed there there was also a surcharge for using a card and and a different amount if cash was paid. I was curious about this because we had never seen this at this establishment before, so I called and asked to speak to a manager and ironically it was the same person who served us. I was given attitude over the phone and told it was common sense that they always split the checks and that everyone knows that there is an up charge for using a card vs cash and they don't state that because everyone knows. Long story short don't go here, don't waste your time not worth an attitude, sketchy fraud activity and subpar food. read more

If your Bussiness has no parking and people must wait to cross the street, make sure you post on your web site that you will be closed the 4th of July weekend. As it is we even took the time to look up on google and when your page said "Open today till 10 pm" we go park across street and walk over with grand parents to find a small sign tucked away in a corner (not visible from the street) "we are closed". Listen... hands down Amici's is one of my favorite places to dine in Suffolk. It's funny because my favorite restaurant that used to be in Richmond, VA (Carytown) was called Amici aka "Friends" in Italian and lie and behold I received the friendliest service today. Decided to check this place out on a Friday. We assumed it would have a long wait---when we checked in to the small restaurant they had said 20 mins. Apparently we got there when everyone was starting to wrap up because we ended up getting a seat in less than 10 mins. Everything on the tables and menu looked delicious but we settled on splitting the hot bacon spinach salad and got the 10" New "Yawka" and Clambake brick oven pizza. Service was great and very friendly. Establishment was clean and smelled wonderful. Food came out very quickly. Salad was very fresh and dressing could have used a bit more bacon flavor. Also, the croutons were bit too oily for my taste. Our pizzas came as soon as we were finished with our salads. The dough is delicious, no yeast flavor and had a nice chew. The red sauce was sweet and acidic; went very well with the dough. Beyond the base of dough cheese and sauce---my only complaint would be the toppings for the Clambake were a bit sparse or it wasn't distributed well. I had 2 slices of the clambake and there was not a single piece of clam. So no clam flavor---just a cheesy pizza. Husband said he had a few clams on his slices but he agreed that it was a bit sparse. The New Yawka had thin crisp meatball rounds. It was good and I would order it again but it isn't the pizza that draws me back. Just ate there tonight and the food was great and our waitress was attentive and friendly. Meatballs with bruschetta appetizer were delicious and filling! Pizza was wonderful, crust wasn't too crisp or chewy and the sauce didn't give me heartburn the rest of the day. Shrimp and grits were really tasty and huge portions meant we came home with a little bit of everything. Restaurant had great ambiance- not too formal or stuffy, and the women's bathroom was spotlessly clean (with a little seating area). I was in Suffolk for an event and afterward we were starving, so were trying to find a place to grab a bite to eat. Nearly everywhere was closed around 8:30-9:00 on a week night! We walked around until we found Amici's - they were still open, but barely. We managed to squeak in and order. The interior is dark and reminds me of a kind of old-school speakeasy. They had a pretty broad range menu of Italian fare. My friends and I went for pizzas and pasta and decided to share. The margharita pizza was delicious! And huge - I ended up taking leftovers home and they reheat well in the oven. We also tried the magic mushroom, and that glaze was the bomb! Amici's is the best pizza restaurant in all of Suffolk. And it's only issue is that it's hidden so far away from North Suffolk (its downtown). They should open a second location in Harbourview. The crust is great, and they have a good variety of other than your normal run of the mill toppings. Definitely worth a visit! read more

I went tonight for an early dinner with friends. I will say I've never had a rude server here, but this nee girl who was in her early 20's was our server, and she was the WORST. She left a sour taste in all our mouths. I normally have gotten the breadsticks, a pitcher of sangria, and a salad of sorts. Tonight after we waited forever for our server to come take our order, she had an attitude- I asked her if they had any side salads (meaning a smaller version of a dinner salad that they have listed), and she literally did a circle with her pointer finger while pointing at the menu. I repeated the question, thinking she didn't understand it, and she said to look at the salads (rude). I ordered the breadsticks, and they were fried. I've never had their breadsticks fried before- they've always been cooked like a pizza, but without the cheese & sauce on top of it. Tonight my breadsticks came FRIED. Why? They were disgusting, hard, and very greasy. I was so disappointed, as I've had them fried at the Portsmouth location (I thought it was only a Portsmouth thing). I asked the server if it was possible to have them not fried, and she said, "No. That's how they always come." She had a bad attitude the whole time. One of my friends got the shrimp Alfredo, and liked it. Another friend got the regular Alfredo, and said it was mediocre. My last friend got the seafood pizza, and she liked it, although the server with the attitude slammed it on the table on top of her napkin & silverware. Just rude overall. I asked the server how long she had been working there, because she seemed to know everything, and she said 1.5 years. I then told her (after I was over her ugly 'tude) that I've never had the breadsticks come out fried at this location, and she again said "Well, that's how they always come." She then left our table, and very loudly asked the owner of the breadsticks have always been fried. I didn't catch what the owner said, but she was so rude & the customer service level was very poor. I felt like the owner could've popped over to see what the problem was, but he just let her rant. I'm so disappointed, because this is a place we enjoy going whenever we're in the area, but I will no longer be coming here. If I could give 0 stars, I would. Food is mediocre, at best, and the service is bad. What a shame. Update: I went again tonight, because a friend and I were craving sangria, and we had Stacy- she is redeeming grace here. Stacy treats you good, is so personable, and her customer service is something that should be taught to the young server we had the previous night. We had our yearly, company Christmas lunch here and WOW it was amazing!! Everyone from the owners' to the wait staff are incredibly nice and accommodating. All of the food came out in great time. The cheese curds are AMAZING!! I had the shrimp alfredo and there was enough to save for dinner too. Let me tell you, I am from the deep south and a girl loves her sweet tea. Not only was it really good but she left a pitcher at the table for us. All in all, we had such a great time here. The ambiance is smooth and relaxed. The pizza looked phenomenal too.. Our last visit was about three years ago. We decided to go somewhere different and picked here. I had the 14" BLT pizza and the wife had manicotti. Both were excellent! The place filled up with people waiting by the time we finished. Not bad for a Wednesday night in downtown Suffolk! I hope to return before three years. OMG! If you're in the Suffolk and in the mood for Italian, Amici's is the place. My friend invited me here for dinner. For the look of the place, I knew I was in for some good food! For a starter we ordered the Mozzarella Sticks (ABSOLUTELY HEAVENLY) and the Caprese Bites . Both were great. The homemade marinara for the mozzarella sticks was to completely die for! Literally, the best marinara I've had in a very long time. I ordered the B.L.T. 10" Pizza. So, amazing. The pizza was cheesy and loaded with bacon and spinach. I completely loved the pizza and dipped it in Amici's ranch! My friend ordered the Chicken Rosemary 10" pizza. This pizza was really good as well; however, I was not a huge fan (it was still good). Great Italian cuisine in the heart of downtown Suffolk! They have a delightful mix of pizza, sandwiches, and pastas on the menu along with a fine wine and beer menu. The restaurant has a nice family atmosphere, not too formal and not casual- it's a great place to meet for a work lunch, grab a drink with friends, or go out to dinner with the family or your significant other! My recommendations- the buffalo chicken pizza, the steak and cheese, the dirty chips and the chicken parmigiana are all phenomenal. If it's dinner time, make sure to ask to see the lunch menu! During our exile to Suffolk, escaping the NC Outer Banks during Hurricane Matthew, we had already eaten at Santa Fe Grill twice. The place we wanted to go for pizza was closed due to flooding, so we found Amici's. This was another happy find. The three of us consumed a large Italian Sausage with black olives and mushrooms. The pizza is billed as New York style, so has kind of a medium thick crust. It was well baked and not soggy. The sausage was bulk style, well flavored with plenty of fennel which we all like. The ingredients were spread close enough to the edge. My only minor complaint was the use of canned mushrooms. The cheese was not heavy, but was enough and was of good, rubbery quality. The sauce was good, herby and not sweet, as you sometimes find. For not knowing where to go we considered ourselves lucky to hit a decent place. Solid 3-1/2 stars, if not a little better. If in Suffolk, escaping another hurricane, I would certainly have a pizza here. read more

First time here. I didn't even know it existed until recently. Love the atmosphere inside--feels very cozy. It was on the cool side today with the a/c, but it was such a beautiful day we sat outside. A bit noisy when big trucks go by, but otherwise very pleasant. Our waitress was nice and took good care of us. We each had a half salad, shared the bruschetta (I wasn't a big fan, but that wasn't their fault. It was different than I was expecting.), and a small Magic Mushrooms pizza. Hands-down the best pizza crust ever! Pizzas tend to have a hard end crust but this was so soft and airy! To die for. The flavor of the pizza itself was wonderful too. Amici's is a great hidden gem just a block off Main Street in Downtown Suffolk. We happened upon this by chance one evening and it looked interesting from the street so we gave it a try. OMG, the food there is to die for!! I love their Italian dishes, pasta & pizza, bring it on! And their fried calamari appetizer is cooked to perfection.
