Good food, but poor service. Didn't come to refill water. The staff did not check on us after we received our meals. Never again will I go here. Service has gone down every single time I went. But this last time I went was the worst. Sat down, a young boy gave us menus, water & chips. Than that was it, we were ready to order and the two waitresses just passed back and forth back and forth checking on other tables CLEARLY seeing that we were ready! Walked right out after going up to one of the waitresses and asking her if they give service cause we definitely weren't getting any. I would have given Amigo's three stars if it wasn't for the horrible service. I'm giving it two stars because I might order take out if a was craving nachos or some street tacos. We got seated and it took more than five minutes for anyone to acknowledge us. Maybe after 10 minutes or so our waitress came over to see if we were ready. We hadn't even been given a menu yet so of course we weren't ready. No menus and no water in 10 minutes of being seated now that's pretty bad. They have a salsa bar that has about four different salsas. They were all pretty good. I love pickled carrots, onions and jalapenos and there's were excellent. Probably the highlight of the meal lol. I ordered a bottled coke cause I only like Mexican coke since it doesn't have high fructose corn syrup in it. The waitress brings me a fountain coke. So that wasn't cool. I ordered the carne asada nachos. They were pretty tasty and filling. The guacamole was gross though. Not fresh at all. Most likely store bought. I also ordered the al pastor taco. It was flavorful but the meat was way too fatty. They didn't trim it at all. I honestly couldn't tell if there was more chunks of meat or chunks of fat. Mark L. put it best, Amigo's does offer the best Mexican food on the island. The wife and I eat at Amigo's at least once every few weeks (there are three other locations, one in Kihei, another in Lahaina, and a trailer at the Wailuku Banyan Tree) and all of them are strong. Up front, I grew up in the Bay Area so I am serious about my Mexican food, especially when it comes to carnitas and Amigo's has never disappointed. The aforementioned wife is an enormous fan of their tortilla soup and I will concur that it is pretty darn tasty (just not tasty enough to lay off their carnitas). I can honestly say I don't recall ever getting stale chips from Amigo's but that's not to say it's never happened. If you're here and craving pretty darn good Mexican food at reasonable prices this is the only game in town. read more

Horrible service! We got there and were told we had to wait (understandable). We did then we ordered drinks at the bar and the waitress told us we had to grab them at the fridge ourselves. And then while waiting at the bar a gentlemen who works there came and told us to sit at this table or else someone else was going to take it. When we got to the table, we saw a lady and a child already sitting there. The man proceeded to tell us to sit anyways. We did and felt so uncomfortable intruding on this family's meal. Then another party came and was sat down immediately while we sat at a table with another family waiting. When they sat us they never apologized, asked if we wanted any more drinks or anything else for that matter. The food was bland and lacked presentation. I will never eat there again. read more

We flew into Maui and immediately got off the plane and I was craving Mexican. I found this place on yelp and it had some decent reviews so we decided to go. My husband ordered the enchiladas and I had a chicken burrito. I got mine as the "wet" option which is covered in enchilada sauce. The food was out in minutes after we ordered. Their chips are mediocre but their salsa bar was absolutely on point. My husband liked his enchiladas enough but I was not entirely impressed with my burrito. The enchilada sauce lacked flavor but I was pleased with how much cilantro they use. I love cilantro and fresh herbs. I would go back again if I was ever in Maui read more

Great service. Everyone is nice and the machaca plate is delicious and will keep you full for days. The staff was really nice and even made our leftovers into burritos so that we could take them as meals (yes, there was that much left over) on our road to hana trip. Ok sat down chips and water immediately brought to table. No salsa? Waitress came explained it is self service. Thought the gentleman who brought chips would have mentioned. Salsa is kinda has the burnt taste to it and spicy which I do not mind either. Atmosphere is quaint with seating for about 40 customers, small bar up front sits 4. Staff seems like they are working all the time lots of movement, seems clean although can not see kitchen. Tried to order Pacifico told they were out so ordered a Dos eq.(on draft) plus!!! Food came out and was Luke warm, would have helped if it was piping hot. The quality was just ok, the staff was great. Let's get the kitchen up to par and I think you can get to 4 stars. Might want to add a little water to the beans make sure they are boiling hot same with the encilada sauce it would make a huge difference. Came here a few nights ago after ziplining at Haleakala. We walked into the restaurant and the waitress saw us but never chose to acknowledge us. We didn't know whether we sat ourselves or waited for a hostess or waitress. We waited by the door for at least 5-10 minutes before the waitress came over. We ordered drinks and she came over with chips. There was a buffet style salsa bar and the salsa was very spicy. But the waitress was no where to be found with our drinks. When she finally did show, we ordered our food as well. The food came out quick, which was the only positive. There wasn't much flavor and I wasn't impressed. When it came time to pay the bill, the waitress sat behind the bar. I had to walk up to the bar so I could pay the bill and get out of there. Went with Ohana to Amigos downtown as we don't have a good Mexican restaurant upcountry . Food is pretty good, lots of variety, but really bad service. The waitress kept coming back to us to take our order as we couldn't decide, but after that besides bringing our food to us never saw her at our table tell we asked other waitress for our bill!! Pedro who is co-owner came over to fill our water as he had walked by and we had to stop him to ask, he filled our sons then left water on our table so I guess we could fill the rest of the table?? My happy place! Best authentic Mexican food on Maui with frosty beers to wash it down!

Typically, when you walk into a restaurant, you expect to get waited on within 10-15 mins of being seated, or sooner (for at least drink orders). I was sat with my 3 children and waited at least 20+ mins before a server came to our table. Once approached, he apologized for the delay and thanked us for being patient. I advised I understood as it seemed a busy night. He said there was a new system and they were behind based on the fact many were having trouble with it. Having waited so long I placed the food order along with drinks (water). After seeing 5 tables come in after us, order their meals, get served their food, pay & leave...about an hour of waiting had passed. He had not returned to our table ONCE, not even to refill the waters ordered. Another customer took notice of what was going on and advised the bar of the fact that we had been waiting (also mentioned the fact that I am pregnant-9 mths so I am "obviously" pregnant) to get their attention. A few mins later a different server came to our table and asked what we had ordered. I repeated the order and she went to check on it in the kitchen, didn't see her again afterwards. Not long after that, ANOTHER waitress came to our table to confirm our ticket order (was completely wrong-belonged to another table or was made up). She then advised she was going to "retake" our order and go in the kitchen to confirm they had it??? I advised because of the fact they'd never done anything with my order in the first place...I was going to leave instead because of the bad service. She looked at me, said she was sorry and started to clear the table before I could even stand up. Aside from the fact that I had been in the place for over an hour and half, with chips and water...I was dumbfounded by the non concern in the matter. I told her I couldn't believe how easily this passed by them all and asked to speak with the manager. She pointed to THE ORIGINAL MALE SERVER who came to our table ONCE!!! When I found out it was him, the owner, I felt disappointed in his way of running business. I could not believe as the business owner himself (his name is Pedro) he knew all that was going on from the beginning and took no concern in addressing the matter with his kitchen staff, or even coming to the table to offer his sincere apology for the mix-up!! To my surprise, when I told him how I felt and that I could not believe my family was treated by the owner in that matter after showing all the understanding to their busy night...he blamed it on his 2 other servers (made something up with them doing something to the order??) and his kitchen staff. He was taking no fault in the matter even though he was the one who took the initial order??? I have never written a review for any business but felt obligated to do so here because no other family should be treated in such an unsatisfactory manner by a business, let alone...the owner himself!! I can't rate the food since it never made to our table...but this, without doubt, was the WORST SERVICE ever! If I could give 0 stars...I would! read more
