We came to Amigo's to watch game 3 of the NBA finals, which was maybe our first mistake. Coming from the south where Mexican food is a staple, this place... just isn't it. The food was very different than your typical "Mexican" food. Given, we are in Maui and I shouldn't put that expectation on them. I think they have the concepts down but execution is way, way off. The seasoning they used just isn't it. Chips and salsa were the best part of our meal. Beers were barely cold, cheese dip was thick and had no flavor. Service was also incredibly slow and just wasn't what we expected. Maybe it was just an off day. Either way, 3/5 and that's being generous. read more

I've finally found an authentic Mexican restaurant here in Kiehe! Salsa and chips are complimentary! I ordered a side of 3 Flautas (served with a scoop of guacamole and sour cream) and tasted just like my previous favorite in So Cal. Delicious!!! Service was exceptional! I removed 2 stars because after our dinner, we waited on the bench right outside the entrance of the restaurant for our hotel shuttle, and a young worker decided it was okay to blow rubbish and dust towards us. My husband told him to be considerate and stop. The worker said sorry but continued to blow the debris out way. We walked away a couple stores down. More than 12 years in, and Amigo's in Kihei is still one of my favourite hang-outs. We really look forward to returning to Maui & hitting Amigo's. Specifically the Kihei location, not the Kahului branch which was not nearly as good both in terms of food, service and ambience. As a white northern Canadian, I'm not a Mexican food connoisseur by any means, but I am a good cook and a foodie. I've eaten bad greasy Tex-Mex, I've eaten award-winning legit Mexican. Amigo's is a nice balance of the two. There are many servers here who have worked here for years, which says something IMO. As a mid-40s woman, I have great appreciation for highly experienced, no BS, to the point service. No sucking up or flaunting tits for tips. Even if one of these old birds misgenders my very obviously male companion due to his long hair (so uncommon on Maui /s), I like the style of no-nonsense service here. Love their homemade salsa. Stoked you can buy it and bring it home! So tasty. Chips & salsa refilled for free if you buy a drink, otherwise $2. Oh noes, better take out a loan!! Lengua... oh yes. Not as common as it should be in Mexican places, but always served here and always delicious. So many people we've brought to try it here and they are astonished at how tender and tasty it is. I unabashedly love Amigo's in Kihei and have never had a bad meal. Great deal for breakfast. I would agree that the margarita quality has suffered in recent years and is a better deal elsewhere. The pre-shredded Costco cheese is no surprise, this has been my standard experience elsewhere. But not once have I felt sick, disgusting or greased out by their food, which is usually the case for Tex-Mex. The refried beans and rice are actually edible here. Have noticed many Mexican workers eating here over the years, including today where a fella in a safety vest picked up a big flat of food for his workmates. Where I come from, if first gen people are eating at a restaurant from their ethnicity, it's a good sign. Don't change Amigo's! There's a reason you've survived COVID and Trump so far! read more

Happy Hour here is a must try! They have a good variety of drinks and appetizer specials to choose from. They gave complimentary chips and salsa that was muy bueno. We had the $3.99 tacos that was delicioso! Also ordered a side of enchilada (not on Happy Hour Menu) that was tasty. Everything was great and authentic. The margarita was perfect with our Appetizer Specials. Service was also Happy and friendly. We went on a Sunday afternoon and the place was comfortable with nice music playing indoors. Really wanted steak and eggs for breakfast, But was disappointed by the amount in size of the food for the cost we paid. On top of the amount, the taste was not it either. Don't eat breakfast here. We also got burritos for lunch because they had a special "all burritos $12.99" the day we went. The burritos were big and tasted good. Get the burritos. read more

We've been in Maui for about four days now and were craving Mexican food. Being on Maui, I know authentic Mexican food can be hard to find. I'm Mexican and born and raised in California, so I definitely know what authentic tastes like. After doing some research, we decided to try Amigos. We walked up and were nicely greeted and seated right away. Our waitress came over quickly, took our drink order, and brought chips and salsa to the table. Drinks arrived shortly after, and she took our order promptly. She did warn us the food might take a little longer, but to our surprise, everything came out fairly quickly. We ordered: Tilapia plate with rice and beans Carne asada plate with rice and beans Cheeseburger and fries The tilapia was really good super flavorful. Honestly, I normally wouldn't order tilapia back home, but being on the island, I figured it would be fresh, and it was. The rice was really good. The beans were about a 5/10 for me, but I understand we're on the island and things are different than back home. Tortillas were also about a 5/10 so-so, but again, expected for being off the mainland. The carne asada wasn't authentic ranchera meat; it was more like a steak-cut piece. Still, the flavor was good. Same rating on the beans 5/10 but the rice was solid. Service was great across the board. The food was good overall not the most authentic, but flavorful and satisfying. The ambiance felt like a classic Mexican restaurant: Spanish music playing (not too loud, which I love because you can actually talk at the table), TVs on with a game playing, and people at the bar having a great time cheering on their team. Very lively and friendly atmosphere. They also have outdoor patio seating, which is a plus. Overall, we enjoyed our experience. Good service, good flavors, and a fun ambiance. I oddly got the BEST homemade salsa of my ENTIRE LIFE in Hawaii (on Maui). There's a local Hawaii restaurant in Kihei called, Amigo's, which I assume is a transplanted Mexican family restaurant (yes, with an inappropriate apostrophe '). There was zero trace of watery-ness. The heat was perfect (medium to light). It was thick. The homemade chips were crisp, thick and salted perfectly. It wasn't pineapple salsa, which I do also like. First off -- would go back again and highly recommend. Really good Mexican food at the corner of the strip mall. Best enchiladas my husband's had on island. He's picky when it comes to enchiladas coming from California. I liked my asada platter, good flavors and portions. Overall, I think it's like a 8.2/10 and that's pretty good I would say. Amigo's Mexican Restaurant in Kihei is a great place to eat or drink. They have daily specials and their Chile Relleno are hand made daily. Their waitress are great, explaining the menu and they service to the customers. They just redid the entire decor, which is very nice. And there's plenty of parking. read more

Over the past 15 years I've tried this restaurant four times. Each time the service is great but the food isn't. Each time I go here I hope they changed their recipes, but no. One reviewer on Yelp said Amigos serves the best authentic Mexican food. Perhaps I do not know authentic Mexican food? One would expect it to be tasty and full of Mexican spices and flavors. We stopped here today for a quick. Lunch! It was around 1:30 and we were close by and saw that they were open and not that busy! Yay so let's go here. We walked in and we were greeted by the hostess she was friendly, so she took us inside to a table. Got out menus and she asked if we wanted chips and salsa we said yes! I think the first batch that they serve us complentary. We looked over the menu and new what we wanted. We got an order of the Quesbirria and another order of chicken tacos! Ohh and we ordered a strawberry margarita and of course a bud light! The food came out pretty quickly along with our drinks! The food tasted pretty darn good. The quesabirria which came with consume for dipping. Also the chicken tacos was a very generous serving of everything. The waitress was friendly she seemed shy but she was attentive. Some highs and some lows. Their quesadillas are extra cheesy the way they should be but there's barely any guacamole and sour cream offered on the side. Their house salsa and chips at the start are super yummy. Do not waste your time on the queso-- gross, not at all cheesy, and all you taste is the roux/butter/flour/thickener. The carnitas is decent though. I like that you can order your tacos crunchy or soft with any meat. We ordered: Grilled mahi mahi taco - Not bad. Al pastor crunchy taco - pretty good. Carnitas crunchy taco - off da hook (per our server). She's not lying. Carne Asada burrito plate - meh. It was ground beef not steak. Not sure if this was a mistake because there was also ground beef in the menu. Just ordered Cali burrito. The sweet lady said 10 min to make. Ok im cool with it, 2 min later she hands me the burrito. I took a 2 minutes drive to the condo, took 2 bites ( first one was somewhat warm and then I had to double check on the second, nope, I threw it away. Although it's not my favorite spot for Mexican food in general, they have really good breakfast specials which, if I remember correctly, are available until 11am at very reasonable prices, but many breakfast items are available all day. Love the biscuits and gravy! My main reason for coming back is the happy hour ceviche. I've paid twice the price at other places that weren't as generous with the avocado or shrimp. Chips and salsa are included as long as you are ordering something which is becoming a rare thing these days. There are a few TVs if sitting at the bar, you can watch live sports. Very casual diner, usually has music playing. Option to sit outside if you like. Happy hour is 3-6 and kama'aina all day! read more

Went for a day drinking lunch...lol...with a friend who is a regular here. Everyone greeted us when we were seated at a booth inside and the friendly service continued when the waitress came over to order our drinks, house margaritas on the rocks with salt. They quench your thirst beautifully with a limey taste. My friend recommended the all day breakfast menu and I chose huevos mexican, scrambled eggs with veg and serrano pepper, beans and rice. Muy bien! A party in your mouth with the spicy peppers and I added some salsa that was served with the chips to pep it up even more. The serving was big and I was full after eating half of it, so make sure you are hungry when you go. Great filling family food in a friendly atmosphere with strong cocktails. This is my first time trying this location out. My usual breakfast spot is at the beginning of Kihei. But I wanted to try someplace new. I was going to go to another place in the same mall but they were not open yet. We ended up eating here because we have never tried out this location. They have a decent breakfast selection as far as the menu goes and the prices are reasonable. I ordered the Mahaca with eggs , beans and rice. It also came with 3 tortillas. It was a nice change from the typical breakfast fare you get on the island. It was good and the portions were good size. For those wondering what Mahaca is. It is shredded beef almost like a roast then it's mixed in with eggs and onions and cooked up and the Spanish rice and beans were great. My girlfriend had The steak and eggs with potatoes and toast. The steak was done perfectly and had a very good taste, eggs were cooked well and the potatoes were very good. They had bell peppers and onions mixed in with the potatoes. Only thing was they only gave her one jelly for four pieces of toast. The service was ok. Food came out pretty quickly. I would definitely try them out again. The place was actually very nicely decorated for a strip mall location. So it is nice that someone puts some thought into it. read more

We arrived on a Monday early evening at 4:30. We read the sign and waited outside. Someone greeted us shortly, and we opted for outside seating on the warm evening. At least there was a nice breeze. Our waitress was helpful, and food came to our table quickly. My date ordered the plate with the chili relleno and chicken enchiladas. She said the relleno was very good and she's a bit of an expert on the subject. I had the enchiladas plate, one chicken, and one cheese. Both were good, and the beans and rice complimented. We also had their house margaritas, on the rocks, and basic lime flavor. They were good, too. Overall, we enjoyed our early evening here. read more

Dropped by for lunch today, 6/01/26, and I regret to say that the service was below average. I would understand if the restaurant was bustling, but it was Monday so there were only a handful of customers. After we were seated at a table for 5 with the menus and utensils, we sat there a good 15 -20 minutes before a server approached our table. Normally, water would be served immediately, which, in theory, made sense especially if you just came in from the sweltering heat. Another customer who came 10 minutes after us were served within minutes after they sat down. I got the attention of their server and asked for water. She nodded and briskly walked away. Finally, our server came and I immediately asked for water. Instead of apologizing for the delay, she abruptly responded "I know! I was about to ask you for your drink order." A good worker would have said "I'm sorry for the delay. I'll bring your waters immediately." I was, at this point, an unhappy camper. I felt contempt for her rude behavior. When it came time to order our meals, I was speechless at that moment and pointed to my choice on the menu. It was the second entry; but she thought it was the first. I corrected her and again, she showed her rudeness by saying "you pointed to the first one." I remained silent. Little did she realize the negative impression she had just made on the establishment. I rate this server a big fat ZERO. If I was the one paying for our meals, she would have garnered zero tip. She's fortunate she got 25% tip from my grandsons' dad. read more

I waited 20 minutes to be greeted by my server at my table, then I got my food and she never came back until 30 minutes later to ask if I wanted to box my food I felt rushed and that they didn't care at all there wasn't even a lot of people or else I would've understood, then I waited 25 minutes for her to grab my card. Horrible service. We arrived as a family of 9 and fully expected a wait due to our party size. However, it quickly became apparent that something was off. We watched multiple smaller parties of 3, 4, and 5 get seated ahead of us--even though we had been waiting patiently. We tried to be understanding, but it started to feel like our group was being overlooked, possibly due to our ethnicity. What made it worse was seeing a table clearly set and ready, yet we still weren't seated. After standing there for another 5 minutes and being told "one more minute" by the server, we had enough and decided to leave. I do not recommend this restaurant based on our experience. If you're in the area, I highly suggest trying Roasted Chiles in the same plaza instead--the service there is excellent and the food is absolutely delicious. read more

First time from Oahu! Once we got seated, as I was looking around there was a lot of termite or flies in the restaurant. One of the guys asked us if we want guacamole or salsa and came back with a bowl of chips filled with guacamole. We didn't know until later that it was an extra charge because he didn't mention about it gonna charge us! Once we got our food I got a birria taco plate which was good plus the rice but it was a little bland to me, I also got a horchata which was bomb and the customer service was good. This place just needs to be more cleaned and let customers know if you guys are gonna charge them for something. read more
