Food: Carnea Asada would make any Mexican shamed to serve it. They literally killed the steak and the onions/tomato side looked it was cut with a butcher knife Drinks: my margarita had a hair in it at the very middle, so I asked to remove it Service: then we had a manager coming to our table convincing us that "he can't say if the hair didn't get into it in when I was drinking it". Ambiance: we tried to attract some attention from other waiters passing by with no success - looks like the owners and the personnel does not care at all about what they're doing here

1/26/26 I was on Maui visiting a friend and was meeting another friend for my Birthday lunch so I followed her lead and went her recommendation. What a great location! A cantina style place with outside dining right across from the beach! You can't lose with a spot like this. Location! Location! Location! The service was stellar! Our server was on top of it! When I got the Chips and Salsa the Salsa was very flavorless. I asked for something spicier and was told it would be an extra charge.....disappointing! The Cadillac Margarita was more like a Yugo Margarita.....not impressive at all! I tasted no Grand Marnier whatsoever! The food was pretty good I had the Monterey Chicken with Rice and Beans and it was tasty and tender but lacked seasoning. I even asked for extra spicy and it was still rather bland. All in all it was a decent experience but could have been much more flavorful!

January 17th, 2026 Saturday 10:45 am .. you grab your silverware and seat yourself. Had to wait Kaha made it worth the wait! She helped and managed us well. Now off to Costco for a food for the next 2 1/2 weeks! Such a great feeling!

Fred'sssssssss! So happy to have found a Fred's in Hawaii!! Same chain as the one in So Cal (previously in HB and still in old town San Diego) Great sit down Mexican food, yummy salsas, huge menu for food and drinks, taco Tuesday specials and a great view. Erika was a great server super friendly and attentive. Parking in the lot is tight, but worth the trouble. Highly recommend stopping in if you are in the area!

Fred's is our go to place for breakfast and evening snack. Their loco moco and fried rice smothered in gravy is delicious. They serve Maui coffee and the service is always good. If you can get an outside table for two on the patio, the ocean view is spectacular. If you are lucky you can see whales or watch a sunset or both. Their carne asada nachos with black beans is a great afternoon snack or evening meal. Prices are in line for Maui and with South Kihei road currently closed in front of Fred's , there is no traffic noise. The food is so good, I keep forgetting to take a picture of it.

Fred's is such a fun atmosphere. Open air seating with a great menu of all the American Mexican favorites, and great service every time. The kalua pork enchilada was a little dry, but highly recommend Fred's for anyone looking for a great meal and experience in Kihei.

    MEXICALI SKILLET
    Robert C.

was the first customer in for breakfast. Seating is as fast as you walk, because it is self seating. A sign tells you to grab a menu and silverware and find a table. I had the MEXICALI SKILLET (3 Eggs scrambled, Portuguese sausage, jalapeños green chiles, tomatoes, onions, potatoes & cheese. served with flour tortillas, chips & salsa ). I add an order of their house Habanero Salsa; not overly hot, but very flavorful. I always try to get a table overlooking Kihei Rd. Great food, great service and great views.

    Pulled Chicken Enchiladas, meh.

The place is a bit 'divey' but the open view of the ocean across Kihei Rd and Kamaole Park II is pretty nice. The food? Not so much. We had lunch here; a Pescado Taco Plate with a substitute salad in place of rice and beans for her, and a large Guacamole as a side for our chips and salsa. She said it was ok. I tried the pulled Chicken Enchiladas, meh. We had Iced Tea and Coke for our drinks. Come here just for the view. Our waiter was Pu'ali, a nice guy and he provided good service.

    Hawaiian pancakes

Fantastic food! We had the Hawaiian pancakes and the Portuguese sausage. With the guava mimosa. Highly recommend

Love the atmosphere here. It's always a must when we visit Mau'i. The chips and salsa are a great starter. Plenty of menu items to choose from. If you're lucky, you might even catch a whale breaching.

    Kalua pork and pescado taco

I was craving a taco on a Tuesday and this place seemed to check all the boxes. I really wanted to like this place, but there are definitely opportunities to improve. Since I was dining solo I opted to sit at the bar. The people around were very friendly but it was very difficult to get the server, Diego's attention. I placed my order, margarita, one kulla pork and one pescado taco plus chips and salsa. Had to ask twice for the chips and salsa and once the food came out, had to try multiple times to flag him down for silverware and napkins. The margarita was decent, the kalua pork was too salty but the pescado was solid. I'm hoping it was just an off night.

We came here for breakfast. Cute and fun place. Service was friendly. I got the Breakfast Skins and a mimosa, and my bf got the Loco Moco and Biscuits and Gravy. Everything was yummy. We enjoyed our breakfast outside on a wonderful sunny morning with a beautiful view.

Head over to Roasted Chiles if you want healthier Mexican flare on Maui!…read more Parents and I were craving some legit Mexican food so I told them we should go to Roasted Chiles since it's been awhile & it hit the spot. We ordered a basket of Chips and Salsa with a Side of Queso and annihilated that throughout the meal. I got myself a Zero Proof Guavalajara (Guava Margarita) and Mom got the $5 Margarita Special. Our waitress Geo was so friendly and checked up on us quite frequently & recommended the Drink Special to my mom. She also mentioned since it's Tuesday, they had $5 Taco Specials! They were full house inside so we enjoyed our meal outside which was nice to enjoy more relaxing vibes. Dad got the Pescado (Fish) Taco Plate which was Opakapaka and he annihilated 2 out of the 3. There was a chipotle crema on top and he said the Fish was nice and crispy since it was battered with tempura. Mom and I got enchiladas, she got Mineras (Vegetable option) & I got the Picadillo (Ground Beef with potatoes) enchiladas. It's definitely a good portion with 3 enchiladas with lettuce, radish slices, crema on top and a side of Rice with corn and carrots throughout and Creamy Pinto Beans! To finish our meal, we scored the last slice of the Strawberry Vanilla Tres Leches Cake! Perfectly soaked with the three milks, a little dash of strawberry jam on top and light strawberry whipped cream topping and filling. Geo said the last piece was the largest! Thanks to Geo and the staff at Roasted Chiles for making our dinner a delicious experience!

I'll still support the place, but to really love supporting them even more, I have some friendly recommendations. I love the char on the meat, the salsas are great and were given to me cold (great sign! As unbelievable as it may seem, this simple step is missed in a lot of places!), the beans and rice with the sasoun like abuela used to make- chef's kiss! and even better than Ono tacos in Kahului in my opinion, and their beans and rice are pretty fly). The pollo and asada, one day has more flavor than the next. Some days, no salt at all. So if you bring a guest, just pack some limes and salt just in case, so they'll believe you when you say this place is awesome. Problem solved. Additionally, the comment about the fatty inedible bits of steak- yes, I have experienced it also, that is an anomaly that the chef should be able to catch. That's not ok and will turn a lot of people off from the food, please quality control or let the butcher know so you guys are getting value. Sometimes I know those fatty cartridge chunks can contribute to flavor because of the oils, but that can be done in a separate process and removed before plating with that primo asada. First visit I loved the carne asada tacos. Quality is very hard to find here on Maui, and once you find it, consistency even harder, but I really like this place so I'm coming back and bringing more folks. The marinade and seasoning was on point that first time. The second time, the beans and rice had wayyy more flavor than the chicken and the steak, just being real. I look forward to trying more. I bring guests here and they say the same things. I'm a huge fan of Mexican food, and I know food can be hard work, just iron out your processes so they're firme every time, make sure everyone working follows the SOP (Standard Operating Procedure) and people will remember it for sure, the potential for even more greatness is definitely there, no one else is making tacos like this! just needs attention to detail. Also.. not to end on a bad note, but I've gotta say it- you -always- should provide or offer silverware to customers, and napkins. That's only proper form. The service and kindness of the young man taking orders is impeccable, he is kind and personable to people and you can tell he was raised with respect , has dignity and kindness for others. Well done! This is rare also and people notice. What a good bruddah! Thank you so much for your hard work and efforts. I live with constant pain. I don't always wanna cook, shop, marinate, and all the steps it takes to make an epic meal, unless I'm cooking for a lot of people I love. I can tell you're spreading the love with your food, I hope my honesty isn't harsh, I really want everyone to eat well and I want businesses to do amazingly. Gracias!

Specifically the Kihei location, not the Kahului branch which was not nearly as good both in terms of food, service and ambience. As a white northern Canadian, I'm not a Mexican food connoisseur by any means, but I am a good cook and a foodie. I've eaten bad greasy Tex-Mex, I've eaten award-winning legit Mexican. Amigo's is a nice balance of the two. There are many servers here who have worked here for years, which says something IMO. As a mid-40s woman, I have great appreciation for highly experienced, no BS, to the point service. No sucking up or flaunting tits for tips. Even if one of these old birds misgenders my very obviously male companion due to his long hair (so uncommon on Maui /s), I like the style of no-nonsense service here. Love their homemade salsa. Stoked you can buy it and bring it home! So tasty. Chips & salsa refilled for free if you buy a drink, otherwise $2. Oh noes, better take out a loan!! Lengua... oh yes. Not as common as it should be in Mexican places, but always served here and always delicious. So many people we've brought to try it here and they are astonished at how tender and tasty it is. I unabashedly love Amigo's in Kihei and have never had a bad meal. Great deal for breakfast. I would agree that the margarita quality has suffered in recent years and is a better deal elsewhere. The pre-shredded Costco cheese is no surprise, this has been my standard experience elsewhere. But not once have I felt sick, disgusting or greased out by their food, which is usually the case for Tex-Mex. The refried beans and rice are actually edible here. Have noticed many Mexican workers eating here over the years, including today where a fella in a safety vest picked up a big flat of food for his workmates. Where I come from, if first gen people are eating at a restaurant from their ethnicity, it's a good sign. Don't change Amigo's! There's a reason you've survived COVID and Trump so far!

I wasn't sure what to expect with these Hawaiian tacos (I've had some bad tofu tacos elsewhere) but these were amazing!! I tried to take notes to see if I could recreate these at home! My guesses: The tofu is fried and maybe in a chipotle sauce. With tomato onion jalapeño cilantro lime salsa, topped with the cabbage slaw (coconut milk, mayo, sugar, lemon, ginger), diced tomato and then with a mango salsa that has cilantro/lime, cheese in a white corn tortilla. Just delicious! My husband's fish tacos looked exactly the safe except had fish instead of tofu. The order comes as two tacos. Looking forward to returning! It's in a plaza so plenty of parking.
