The patio drew us in. It felt so inviting and at the time we went, no one else was there. We ordered a salad, a couple pizzas and some wings. The people at the counter were friendly- but the experience itself was odd. You walk in to what feels like the back of the restaurant and order at the counter. Then they bring your food to you. When we arrived we were given menus with a bunch of blue X's through it- indicating they were out of many things. There were a few stray cats running around that kept us all entertained. We even took some back to our place. They have an outside patio with outdoor summer lights. Meat lovers pizza it's very good but what I really liked were the wings with the two different sauces on them Hoisin sauce and smoked mango. The wings are very crisp also with great tasting sauce. OMG what an awesome place to eat pizza. You order at the counter the pizza that you want and your drinks. You get a number and they will take your food to your table. We ordered a personal pizza and a Custom Made Pizza with Cauliflower Crust since we eat gluten free. That crust was out of this world, you would have never guessed that it was cauliflower. I don't recall the name of the Asst Manager but it was a lady that went above and beyond to correct a mistake with one of our pizzas. Quality of the food was high end. Brick oven Pizzas. And the ambiance emanates a fun, hip, particularly with the recalcitrant messaging along the signage (my favorite is "All I want is pizza and abs"). The pizza can be customized with an astounding degree of specificity...everything from the crust to the sauce to the amount of cheese. And the toppings of course. I came here to pickup a pizza after a hike. We got the pepperoni rolls, Mac bites, and a pepperoni pizza. Since I just picked up a pizza, I can't speak much to the service, but I can say that those Mac bites were amazing! You get 4 in an order, but I could have eaten 10. The pepperoni rolls also knocked it out of the park! I like that the sauce was on the side for dipping. Their sauce is pretty sweet, so I appreciated that I could sauce the bites myself. Their Mac bites and pepperoni rolls were 5/5! The pizza itself left something to be desired. It was a lot of crust, and the crust wasn't my favorite. I am a crust lover, but it wasn't for me. Our crust was pretty dark, so it's possible it was overcooked. It didn't taste burnt, but it didn't have much flavor at all and was tough. I wish the crust was made out of the same dough used in the Mac bites. The middle of the pizza was good though! I'd come back here again and get 7 orders of Mac bites and pep rolls. read more

"My friends" was said about 100 times and according to him everything on the menu was the best or absolutely delicious. Bread sticks were hard, sauce, eh, just ok. Cesar salad isnt Cesar. Its home made poppyseed dressing that is nothing like cesar. Pizzas look incredible but lack any real flavor. Chicken bacon ranch was creamy, but just bland. Meat lovers was loaded, but again lacked seasoning. The hoisin tenders were the best thing we had. The sodas on tap were flat. There is no alcohol here, but instead, kombucha on tap. I was happy to see that black rock pizza had vegan options. I got the veggie pizza with vegan cheese and I loved everything about it except the cheese. Part of me wishes I had just omitted it completely because vegan cheese can be notoriously rubbery. Unfortunately this cheese texture wasn't very good, but I still enjoyed the pizza. I was hemming and hawing about getting a pizza- BRP had good reviews but I couldn't decide what to get- anyway I went ahead and drove down- parking in the back. Walked in at 6 on a Friday night. No wait- sun had not set yet so I think I beat the rush. The gal working the register was super nice and gave me a great recommendation. Normally I do a Hawaiian but she suggested the Local Boy- Kalua pork, ham, bacon mushroom and smoked mozzarella. It was ready within 20 and off I went. Holy hell it was DELICIOUS!!! Super generous with the toppings without being too much. Great flavor combo. And there's something on the crust that was a pleasant surprise. It costs me additional carbs because it was so yummy instead of tossing the edges I ate them! Worth the glucose spike!!!! I was expecting a touristy type trap if a pizza place but this place rocks! Wow, what a welcome addition to Kihei. We ordered pickup from here a few times during our recent visit. I would love to come sit down at their patio next time, it nice and light and bright. Our food was ready right when promised. We went with a few pizzas, pizza rolls, and a salad. The salad was fresh and crispy. I was a bit skeptical of the pizza rolls, but man oh man they ended up being a favorite. If you love crispy cheese bits these are for you. After making the decision to have a pizza night while vacationing in paradise, we had to make the decision where to order the pizza. As always, I turned to Yelp for some help! Black Rock came in at the top of the list. I called to place my order for pick up and was put on hold for a pretty lengthy period of time. That's okay, though, since we're on island time here. A good sign, they're busy taking orders... I ordered a one topping personal sized pizza with pineapple for our six year old. The pineapple was freaking amazing! Not canned, or even mainland fresh, it was fresh Maui gold pineapple! The rest of us shared a large half Maui Waui and half Classic Combo. I subbed bacon for ham on the Maui Waui side, which worked great. I love that they include pepperoni and red onion on the this offering, and most importantly that same pineapple I just described. The combo was your basic combo, good stuff. Crust was good, sauce and cheese were a little on the light side, but overall the pizza was very good. The interior cashier and pick-up area is interesting. Their website makes mention of the industrial feel, and let me just confirm, they hit the nail on the head. Since I was picking up pizza for takeaway, I didn't make my way onto the patio eating area, but it's not on the beach and the place is kind of situated in a parking lot. I think we made the right choice to take our pizza back to the resort. There's nothing to keep me away from a future visit to Black Rock, but I may give some of the other parlours a try before I return. read more
