One of the worst storefronts I've ever been to. Parking is super cramped and it feels like I'm driving through a homeless encampment or something with old cars that look like they have been parked there for years just rotting away in the parking lot. And that's before I even get inside. Once I do get inside the person who helped me wants to tell me that I'm wrong about being able to purchase 9 mm due to the fact that I'm under the age of 21 stating that it is handgun ammo. I don't know about other people, but I've never heard of a such thing as handgun ammo. It's for an SP5 which is a long-gun. Furthermore tells me that I can't buy .556 ammo either, because I'm not a California resident. I am on military pcs orders here and I'm legally classified as a resident. I am very familiar with the FFL's right to decline service to anybody but don't say random untrue things in an attempt to disguise the fact that you have no idea how the law works. Nevertheless the guy was nice about it, I just decided to take my business elsewhere and support people who care about other people's rights. Also, had he just looked it up in any way shape or form he would have realized he was wrong instantaneously. As a business owner, I would be frustrated with a counter employee who made my company lose out on $400. read more

1st guy was Incompetent with mag laws. So he turned to the 2nd guy. 2nd guy completely blew me off. Said to me "How many mags do you need? I'm not even going to look up pricing unless you're going to order at least 5 mags. It's not worth it paying shipping for 1 mag." The poor ratings here do not reflect my experience with Ammo Depot at all, and I feel so positive about Ammo Depot I wanted to stick up for them. Apparently they didn't handle the COVID rush well and I can't speak to that, but my recent interactions with them have been nothing but helpful, professional, personable, and patient; without a hint of attitude, condescension, or disrespect. I bought my first pistol from them and used them to transfer a shotgun I bought online. I did pay MSRP for the pistol, but it was a hard to find CZ 75 SP-01 and I felt lucky to get it in CA at that price. As the FFL for my shotgun transfer they were very proactive, reaching out to the online retailer to ensure they had all their correct FFL paper work on file, confirmed the Mossberg 590 was in stock and shipping, then were in touch with me within an hour of delivery. Yes, it is a small shop (when I took my FSC test I blocked half of their gun counter) and with only two registers plus necessary paperwork it takes a while to rotate customers through. But they have always answered the phone when I call, and quoted me ammo prices over the phone as well. Some of their prices are great, some of them are not, and that's for me as the customer to decide which are which. But like I don't hate on expensive restaurants that charge more than I am willing to pay for lobster, I think it is unfair to leave 1 star reviews if their prices on an item aren't as cheap as I want. TL;DR: Nothing bad to say. Always friendly, patient, respectful, and helpful. I feel lucky to have found them and I always start my search for whatever I need here read more

Called 5-6 times to see if they had the ammo I wanted. Nobody ever answered. Went in person. Waited in line for 45 minutes. Got to the counter. Out of stock. No signs, nothing telling people what they are out of to avoid wasting their time in line. Guy that helped me couldn't be less sympathetic. He also said when they are busy, they don't answer the phone. Why have a phone then?!? Horrible business practices. Zero customer service. First time we went was to buy a gun. One of the employees came out and took names and phone numbers to call us back since their parking lot is so full. A woman with two small boys said, "I'm just here to buy a gift for my husband. I have these two with me and don't think I can wait. I really don't want to go to another store." At that point the guy told her if she wanted to go to another store to do so and refused to take her name or number. Second time was to pick up the gun. The owner came out and began yelling at customers that they were blocking the entrance to a neighboring business. He then berates them and tells them if they can't figure how not to block a business, they were too stupid to own a gun. We picked up the gun, since it was paid for, but declined to purchase any ammo from them. We finally got the gun. Got it home and the damned thing was defective. I have bought ammo and one gun from them in the past, and they were always patient and not like your typical "I'm a gun salesman, so you're stupid" like you get from so many other arrogant salesmen. So I called tonite looking for my dros number, because I kept getting denied for ammo since I recently moved, and apparently now that flags you somehow in our wonderfully tolerant state of California. The guy on the phone was so nice and helped me navigate the cfars.ca.gov website to update my info and patiently helped me figure out the process so that hopefully I can feed my guns again! Haven't been there since Covid19 started so this refers back to then. Been there many times and bought many things. Pretty good times for the most part. It's better when they are not busy and have time to interact. No issues with the crew there. It was busy on a particular visit, at the time there was a rush on guns, a few people line up at the door, things can get sorta weird. It seems like they start running the place like the soup nazi did in Seinfeld "you have 5 minutes to make a purchase decision", said in an authoritarian tone. It wasn't directed at me, but it was directed to a first time gun purchaser by the owner. Ammo prices used to be some of the lowest in town. I guess that no longer applies. Came back with low ball offer, which she declined and asked for the guns back. They tried to return 1 empty gun case in box. Acted like they didn't know it. Well I finally purchased a weapon I've been waiting to get for some time now. I guess the current climate pushed me to the purchase as I originally came just to buy some ammo. I think under different circumstances the store would not have been so busy but my first visit I waited over an hour and then today when I came to pick up the weapon I waited over two hours. The staff working each time were super patient and helpful with what I was looking for. I can imagine how frustrating it might be right now with the long lines but trust me when I say this is a great place to check out if you need ammo or a weapon. What a rip-off. They are selling 500 rounds of Blazer Brass 9mm for $329 when you can buy 1000 rounds of the exact product from Target Sports USA for $367. That's the reason why you now drive by this business and no longer see a line of customer's waiting outside to get into the door. Being in the Sacramento area frequently, I thought I would seek out an independent ammo retailer as I am sick of the big box stores. Ammo Depot was close to my appointment for the day, so I stopped in despite seeing some less than stellar reviews here on Yelp. I was so pleased with my whole experience at the store. The guys behind the counter were friendly, helpful and couldn't have been nicer. In fact, customer ahead of me was a guy that could have received a lot of attitude in other ammo stores for being a certain "type" shall I say, but not here. The staff was super respectful and friendly to him as well. Professional all the way. He told me it was illegal for him to sell me any ammunition because I told him it was for my husband.
