You literally cannot miss this Amoco sign, it's unbelievably huge! After passing many times I finally tried them out to top off my tank. The review is for fuel only as I never went inside. No issues processing my card and the pump worked flawlessly. Some minor debris in the area and a gentleman was sweeping it up. They offer washer and paper towels. A solid 4 star experience. This is listed as a landmark because this sign is freaking massive!!! read more

Be DAMNED all this talk of a foolish sign. Every 5 star rating this place has, is due to this sign. REALLY?? This place was attempting to sell to me a battery I did not need. I know because Triple A came to the station to replace it. The battery was tested, and found to be 100% fine. (If it requires a new battery it's still under warranty for 2 more years). If not for the fact the battery was under warranty, I would have been paying them for a battery I didn't require at all. I paid $506, (and change), for them to replace the alternator. When I informed them the battery was under warranty, and Triple A, would replace it free. They came up with an $80 charge for "something", they said needed to be replaced. In fact they failed to show me the replaced item, (or ask me if I wanted it replaced). It was simply on my bill when I came to pay. I have a feeling I was being swindled. I never would have selected this place for "service", on my car. However the location of this station suited my need, at the time. I could walk from the station, to St. Mary's hospital, where I needed to go, to see someone. I'd recommend looking elsewhere for "HONOST", service station, or Mechanic. If you are just mediocrely into big ole gas station signs, give it a miss. Did you make the trek to it and now have no where to go? 1) Go to the Cheshire Inn - several restaurants with different vibes 2) Go to Forest Park - get your outdoors on 3) watch a movie at the hi-pointe 4) travel up Clayton to Tropicana and get your bowl on 5) travel east on 40 to Macs local eats and get a burger and some red hot ripplet fries Actually ... maybe this big old gas station sign is just the start to an awesome day read more

Stopped by on a Saturday afternoon. The lot is small and hard to navigate. You have to hold the pump and it flows sooo slow.

It is exactly what it says it is. A gigantic Amoco sign. I read about this first when exploring Roadside America before a trip to Saint Louis. We didn't initially intend to stop here, but we were eating lunch around the block at Hi-Pointe Drive In and the fella needed gas. And surprise! Right around the corner is a BP at the foot of the Giant Amoco Sign. Gas is slightly more expensive than other places in town. But it is nearer to the highway and downtown and at a landmark spot, so it makes sense. If you are all about Roadside America or local flavor, you will probably end up here. If you don't much care, there is no reason to go out of your way to come here. Still, I like that kind of stuff. So I am glad we happened upon it! read more

STL Yelpers are something like awesome-sauce around here for making the "Giant Amoco Sign" a notable landmark. This is right up my review alley. But I must admit, I am a little shocked this "business" slipped through the cracks of the local Yelp constables screening process. If you're from St. Louis you've seen this sign displayed big as daylight at the intersection of Clayton Rd. & Skinker. Before there was BP there was Amoco and luckily this signage was not compromised. I love it, totally keeps the integrity of the Clayton/Forest Park neighborhood. I've been very nervous the past few weeks because the iconic Amoco sign was being painted over with white paint. Fortunately, all my worries were for naught! I'm honestly surprised that this sign is still here. A gas station still exists at the site but it's not an Amoco. It's a BP. There's not anything to do here except look at it while you drive by or while you're getting gas. It's just a sign. Afterall, they have museums dedicated to signs. You know when you're a little kid and you look forward to seeing something as you pass by in the backseat of the car? For me it was a neighborhood dog, a creek waterfall, and a business-fox billboard. However, some 30 years later, I still like to see certain things out of the window when I'm around them and that's where this insanely big Amoco sign comes in. As any online nostalgia list showing Squeez-Its and Crystal Clear Pepsi will prove, nostalgia is a powerful force that makes someone remember things better and cooler than they were. We had an Amoco up the street from us growing up, and then decades later they became BP, which became oil spills and Dick Cheney connections and, well, Amoco just seems way better. This sign also marks that I'm getting super close into STL when I come in and am staying near Clayton or The Loop. That's always a positive. It's also hilariously oversized. Definitely visisble from a mile down the interstate, it helped out of towners not miss my exit when I lived in U. City. G.A.S. became 300% more hilarious when the filling station below stopped being an Amoco. Yes, this sign is basically a geographical landmark and is perfect for giving directions to out-of-towners. Have you ever seen a bigger gas station sign? And it's vintage! Ain't no Amocos around here and aint nobody ever gettin' rid of it...I hope. Seriously though, it's pretty cool looking and you can even spot it form the highway. I grew up in a small town 45 minutes away from Saint Louis City. I remember passing the sign as a child and thinking "Here we are. We're in the city!" I knew I wanted to move to Saint Louis as soon as I was old enough and as a young child that sign was the landmark telling me I had arrived. I have been to St. Louis twice and both times I stayed off the exit with the Giant Amoco Sign. When I first saw it, I was mesmerized. Is Amoco still a thing? Do they have them in St. Louis? After further investigation, I found out that there is no Amoco. And in fact, it was hovering over a BP station. But through a BP being put in its place, this apparent local landmark managed to stay. As I rode in the car, I was sure to check in at this sign. It is fascinatingly large and colorful. And every time I saw it while riding in other people's cars/taxis, I knew I was close to my temporary home. Thank you Giant Amoco Sign. Drove to Amoco at 845am and asked the Auto Service Manager if one of the service repair "men" could add air to one tire. I realize this is a free service, therefore I always tip $20 for 2 mins of someone's time. The Auto Manager asked that I wait 10-15mins for a service repair person to arrive. Not sure why one of the two gentlemen already working on cars couldn't step out and assist??? Nevertheless it's 920am and I'm still waiting... read more

I have remembered this giant Amoco sign from when I was a kid. It is definitely a landmark here in St. Louis and one even visitors get a kick out of. I sometimes stop here for gas and to pick up lotto tickets and the attached gas station is not priced too high, as it's the only gas station in the area. It's also always clean and the staff behind the robbery proof glass are always nice. With that being said you can't walk in to a convenience store, you have to actually ask for what you want. But deal with it because it's on a small lot. read more

This sign holds a special place in my heart. This was my Uncle's gas station from the late 1940's/early 1950's until he retired in the late 1990's. Go inside the main office and they have pictures of the old "Red Crown Standard" sign that was once there. It is now run by his step daughter and her husband and will always be a proud monument to a man who was well loved by his peers, LC Stevenson. read more
