STL Yelpers are something like awesome-sauce around here for making the "Giant Amoco Sign" a notable landmark. This is right up my review alley. But I must admit, I am a little shocked this "business" slipped through the cracks of the local Yelp constables screening process. If you're from St. Louis you've seen this sign displayed big as daylight at the intersection of Clayton Rd. & Skinker. Before there was BP there was Amoco and luckily this signage was not compromised. I love it, totally keeps the integrity of the Clayton/Forest Park neighborhood. If you're a visitor and you find interest in billboards & impressive signs...give it a whirl. It's worth the photo opt for sure. ~Christy

It is exactly what it says it is. A gigantic Amoco sign. I read about this first when exploring Roadside America before a trip to Saint Louis. We didn't initially intend to stop here, but we were eating lunch around the block at Hi-Pointe Drive In and the fella needed gas. And surprise! Right around the corner is a BP at the foot of the Giant Amoco Sign. Gas is slightly more expensive than other places in town. But it is nearer to the highway and downtown and at a landmark spot, so it makes sense. If you are all about Roadside America or local flavor, you will probably end up here. If you don't much care, there is no reason to go out of your way to come here. Still, I like that kind of stuff. So I am glad we happened upon it!

I've been very nervous the past few weeks because the iconic Amoco sign was being painted over with white paint. Fortunately, all my worries were for naught! Rather than being taken down, the sign was simply being updated because the gas station is no longer a BP - it's once again finally an Amoco station! I finally feel at peace again now that I don't have to worry about this national landmark being removed.

Stopped by on a Saturday afternoon. The lot is small and hard to navigate. You have to hold the pump and it flows sooo slow.

Only pure greatness such as this can overcome corporate mergers. They should down trees to ensure its visibility.

It's a giant Amoco sign. Sort of an eye sore really but it's achieved icon status for being the biggest amoco sign in the world.

Surreal, driving from Clayton towards St. Louis, this sign is amazing. Just a step back in time.

Unfortunately the tram rides to the top were sold out, but we'll catch them next time. Highly recommend for a quick, educational stop! -- update -- My wife and I were in St. Louis and decided we had to do the Gateway Arch at least once. We tried getting tickets the day before and it was completely sold out, but we got lucky and snagged spots for the next morning. Totally worth the wait! The view from the top is absolutely stunning. You can see for miles across the Mississippi River and the city skyline -- it's one of those "wow" moments that makes the whole trip worthwhile. The architecture and engineering behind it are impressive too. That said, be ready for a cozy ride. The tram pods only fit about 5 people and it's very tight in there. You'll get to know your neighbors pretty well for those few minutes! If you're even a little claustrophobic or afraid of heights, this might not be for you. But if you're okay with both, it's a must-do experience. Highly recommend doing it at least once. We loved it and left with some great photos and memories. Just book your tickets in advance!
