I went here to use the bathroom, and to justify the use of the bathroom I took advantage of the happy hour special, which was 6 buck mojitos. I had one and it was nicely appointed with a stick of sugar cane and an appropriate pour of non house rum. It felt like Bacardi, but I didn't ask. The servers were nice. I have been to this place twice now. The first time went it was a weekend day and there was not a wait This last time was a weekday same deal no wait. This time I sat at the bar. The restaurant is not a very big place. It is kinda small has an extra room in back for seating. The food was great both times. I forgot to take pics of the entrée and only got pictures of the appetizer. So I will review the appetizer which I had was calamari. I will say it was a tad bit undercooked. If you're looking for a little ray of Cuban sunshine in Manhattan (specifically Harlem) then I'd definitely recommend checking out Amor Cubano! We were looking for a place to meet some friends and decided to try it out. We made reservations for Sunday evening which I'd recommend doing, it for pretty busy in the front since they had a live band. We sat in the quieter back area, which was great for chatting with our friends. We had the most friendly waiter who always checked on us with a warm smile on his face. We started out with some of the plantain chips that they bring complimentary to the table as well as a pitcher of red sangria and croquetas de jamon. The pitcher is a good way to go if the whole table wants a drink since we got about 2 glasses each (for 4 people) for $39, as opposed to one glass for $9. For my meal I got the Cubano sandwich and some maduros (sweet plantains). I'm mildly obsessed with sweet plantains so I could have eaten the whole plate by myself but I nicely shared them with the table. The Cubano sandwich was overall pretty good, but my husband and I both agreed that the meat was a tad on the dry side. My friend and I were in the neighborhood on a rainy Monday, starving from being outside all day. We happened upon Amor Cubano and were excited to try their lunch special, which includes an appetizer and entree. At around 2pm Monday we were the only patrons there. We were promptly greeted by the hostess/server/bartender(?). My friend and I ordered the same thing: ropa vieja. I'm a stickler for ropa vieja (it shouldn't be too sweet and should be tender yet savory and delicious). Before it came out, though, we had the empanada as the appetizer. It was baked (I prefer fried) but was delicious. I highly recommend, especially with the mayo ketchup it's served with. The ropa vieja is the real deal. For a lunch special, it seemed like a full entree size and came with white rice and black beans. It was HUGE. I was stuffed but it was totally worth it. Okay, hear me out. Mw and boyfriend didn't know where to go until we found this gem. Upon entering, the restaurant already struck a vibe that's welcoming and warm. The host is kind enough not to make us wait for a table and they immediately sat us on the middle, where we can see the performers up close. We ordered their selection of mojitos which is the drink is just right with both flavor and alcohol strength, its amazing! We ordered our appetizer; Croquettes with ham - divine flavor that just melts in your mouth like butter. The entree we ordered is really good too, the meat is well seasoned and flavored, and the rice is rich with aroma. All in all, the entire experience was magical. If I could give zero or negative satrs I would. I gave this place 2 chances. The food is terrible. Both times over cooked. I got charged $13 for half chorizo that was cold and so over cooked that was hard rock. I only got half of a piece of bread. They taped the fork to the paper bag handed to me by the delivery driver. My cuban friend says it's a great cuban place and wants to bring his father here for his birthday - doesn't that tell you this is as authentic as it gets? The decor and atmosphere is very nice with friendly service. Didn't think I was in Harlem at all. The food was nicely displayed and the taste of the food was even better. We ordered the tamel and yucca rellenos for appetizers; arroz con pollo and ropa vieja for entrees. All of the dishes are very tasty. I wasn't crazy about the sause for the rellenos (garlicky creamy drizzled over) but the relleno itself was great. I tend to complain about everything being too salty but the arroz con pollo was great! The ropa vieja was very tender served in a cute plantain chip bowl. The best part is the live band. What a lovely place! This is definitely a gem in the neighborhood. It was quiet when I arrived. Plenty of tables to sit at. We were greeted immediately by the hostess and sat right away. She was so sweet and attentive the entire time. We started with a passion fruit and guava mojitos. They we're well made. Refreshing yet strong. For appetizers we had camarones al ajillo and yuca rellena. Both delicious!!! The rellena had the same texture as if it was made with potatoes and the meat inside was very well seasoned. My only wish was that there was more meat inside, but still a great starter. Shrimp was cooked perfectly and the garlic sauce was great. The garlic wasn't too strong. For our meals we had the vaca frita and palomilla. Both excellent dishes. They both come with white rice and black beans and a lot of onions, which is great for an onion lover like me! We ended with the flan and tres leches, which were very enjoyable. I would've liked the tres leches to be more soaked in milk, but that is just my preference. We ordered from this restaurant as we've done it before and we don't understand what happens. We know we're in the middle of a pandemic but that's not an excuse for such a terrible food. The breaded steak was petrified and didn't tasted fresh, the white rice which is usually yumi was dry and reheated and the order of maduros-plantain were overcooked and for that price not worth ordering. I ordered the shrimp filled tostones and they came out cold, the shrimp was cut into small pieces and the plátano was hard. As if it was made and just left there for some time until they served me. The ceviche on the other hand was good BUT the plátano chips they serve them with were stale. These are also the chips they serve as soon as you seat with some kind of cilantro sauce that's really good but matched with stale chips it becomes okay at best. The lechón was super greasy, the rice it's served with was okay and the yuca has absolutely no flavor. I had meticulously studied the photos other yelpers had posted, and knew before entering I wanted to try the Paella and Ropa Vieja. Every time I come here I love it even more. A few Thursdays ago we came just for drinks. The restaurant wasn't crowded at all, in fact it was about less than1/4 full. There was live music. This lady put on a show as if it were a full house. She had a lot of energy and really got us going. She was also very personable and got everyone involved in her performance. I also loved that the small band consisted of only women. GIRL POWER! The waitstaff is always so freindly and sweet. The girls are great. They're always smiling and so accommodating. When you go, and you know you will because my review is so great, please tip very well. I tried a new dish last week and I can't believe it has taken me so long to try it. I'm committed to trying everything on the menu. I don't remember the name but it's ground beef with onions, olives, and raisins. They even added a fried egg on top.
