Amoroso's Pizzeria is an Italian restaurant located in the Old Avon Village plaza. It is in the former Hot Heaven location; it's right by the gazebo and oversized rocking chair. The building is cute, it looks like an old house. The liquor store is right in the same building. There were plenty of parking spots when I went. My family and I ordered takeout from there. Ordering online and picking up was seamless. We had their 6 pc house wings; I really enjoyed those, it was sweet and tangy. I am assuming it's a mix of BBQ and buffalo. We also had the small sweet and smokey pizza; this pizza had shredded mozzarella, bacon, fig jam, and ricotta cheese. We really enjoyed it; the sweetness from the fig jam and salty from the cheese and bacon, were a match made in heaven. There were so many other pizzas on their menu I wanted to try. Inside was cozy, it appears you can dine in also. The service and employees were friendly. I will definitely order from them again! read more

I've been here now enough times to make a judgment: this place is good. REALLY GOOD. now a caveat, it's not my favorite pizza around. But that's a personal preference because we have some amazing New Haven style pizza in town and this is not that. But it is still excellent pizza with a bit of a sweet crust. Generous toppings too. I recently got the spicy pig and it was delicious. But where this place goes above and beyond is the extra stuff. The "Utica" greens are addictive with escarole and other garlic, cherry peppers, prosciutto and cheese. So good. And the gnocchi is some the best around with melt in your mouth nuggets. We tried the trio and there's not much better than gnocchi with some vodka sauce. They're friendly and the prices are reasonable. A great addition to town. read more

Open for just a few months, Amorosa's Pizzeria took over the location of the former tenant, Hot Heaven Pizza. The Amoroso's Yelp site seems to have taken over the old Hot Heaven listing, so obviously ignore most of the old reviews (one goes back to 2009). Amorosa's has nothing to do with Hot Heaven. It has new ownership, new decor, and a new menu. We visited them for lunch yesterday, and spent some time chatting with the new owner, Jonathan. He was so welcoming and friendly, it was no act, we are 1,000% positive he is always this nice. Jonathan tweaked the old Hot Heaven menu, added some pasta dishes, kicked up the sauces, and the result is a very sweet and welcoming restaurant with pizzas, sandwiches, entrees, and more. His design team did a nice job refurbishing the space, we noticed it immediately when the lobby greeted us with a wood map of Italy and an olive tree! Jonathan told us pizzas make up a big part of his Friday and Saturday business, and when you look at Amorosa's menu you can see why. How about a Tri Color Pizza with mozzarella cheese, basil pesto, vodka sauce, and marinara sauce? How about some unusual ingredients like stracciatella and gorgonzola cheeses, hot honey, nduja (spicy sausage), baked potatoes and more? Sandwiches, pastas, stuffed breads, wings, and salads round out their deep menu. Yesterday's lunch special was a reduced price on their sandwiches, so that's where I went. I chose a Grilled Salmon Sandwich ($11.00) with a nice pan seared salmon filer topped with roasted red peppers, arugula, and lemon basil aioli with a side of French fries. My bread choice was between a sub roll, wrap, house made focaccia, Italian roll and gluten free bread. I went with the focaccia, and it was excellent, as was the generous portion of moist and perfectly cooked salmon. I have to give a shout out to the French fries too, because they were great. My wife went into the pasta menu and chose an order of Baked Ziti Ala Siciliana ($18.50) with Ricotta Cheese, melted mozzarella cheese, homemade sauce and a pretty large house salad. She had a choice of four pastas and went with Penne. It was very good, and the portion was large enough that some of it came home with us. It was nice to see a salad included with the entree, that seems to be happening less and less out there. We very much enjoyed meeting Jonathan and his adorable daughter who set our table and brought our water glasses. Next time we visit it will be for pizza time, and frankly, we can't wait. read more

I've been traveling around the East Coast trying all the different pizza around and I always find myself wanting to come back here. I was scrolling Facebook and saw a photo of a delicious pizza advertising $12 large pizzas on Tuesday and Wednesdays. We ordered at 7:50pm totally not realizing they closed in 10 minutes. We got there it pick up at 8:20 and we were greeted with a big smile and handed the most delicious pizza. Appreciated them staying open for us. The crust is so flavorful. Slice is sturdy yet soft and not too greasy. I can't wait to keep exploring more of the menu! read more

I've been seeing a lot of amazing reviews for Amoroso's and finally made it there! The online order system was a bit glitchy, but ultimately they were able to sort it out. We tried their specialty pizza Festivus which has a wonderful mix of pesto, chicken, and peppers. The crust was just the right balance of crispy and chewy. I don't like leaving critical reviews but I hope that the owner takes this as constructive and considers improving the quality of the pizza. We usually get our pizza from Little City Pizza but on Saturday the wait was over two hours for a couple of pizzas. We heard some good things about Amoroso's so we decided to give it a try. Though the owner was very nice and made us want to continue to do business there, the quality of the pizza was not good. It was very undercooked and the crust was very doughy. The crust also had a weird sweet taste to it similar to a biscuit. There was too much sauce and the cheese and toppings were floating on top of it. We prefer thin, crispy new haven style pizza. This pizza is not that. We will continue to get our pizza at Little City and will plan ahead next time. read more

YUP. Knew this place was going to be good as soon as I stepped in. New Comfy little spot and smelled great. Went with my wife and shared the meatballs and a large pizza. Meatballs were great. Fat focaccias to dip in the sauce. The pizza was HUGE. Waitress said we could order half and half if two of the specialty pizzas. She was very nice. Giving 4 stars because I ordered delivery and didn't travel to the restaurant. I was a long time customer of Hot Heaven and decided to give Amoroso's a try due to convenience. We ordered the penne alla vodka with chicken (for 2), chicken pesto sandwich, mozzarella sticks, fries and a kids meal. Every single item was amazing and arrived HOT with steam. The side salad served with the pasta was especially impressive, it was so colorful and fresh with nutrient dense veggies (not typical iceberg and red cabbage). The focaccia was soft and again...still warm. It was a real italian meal, from taste. I am excited to order again and try the pizza and wings. read more

I grew up in the New Haven area and I'm here to say to not sleep on Amoroso's pizzas! The dough is so flavorful and has a nice chew to it. The truffle shuffle is a unique combination of flavors that leaves any truffle-lover wanting more. If you are like me and put truffle oil even on popcorn, this pie is for you. read more

Stopped by here on a whim and I'm so glad we did! Very fresh food. The focaccia bread was a nice starter and I reserved a few pieces to dip in the meatball sauce. They have a couple flavors of wings and we opted for the "house" sauce which was such a unique flavor. I usually get a traditional buffalo but I went out on a limb and was pleasantly surprised. We saw about 20 pizzas go out the door while we were there so we just had to try one! The owner told us about his latest creation which he let his customers on Facebook name and it was out of this world! The people next to us saw ours and ordered one for themselves. Do not sleep on this place. It's a very charming restaurant and the staff are amazing. There are some negative reviews on Yelp recently but believe me when I tell you they will do their very best to make your experience a pleasant one. Amoroso has the most thoughtful, original specialty pies. The Sweet and Smokey had generous dollops of fig and the balance of sweet and savory was excellent. The truffle shuffle was also delish. I am a frequent toasted ravioli eater and these were all excellent. Nice, full and crispy. We keep ordering different things to try and haven't been disappointed in salad or pasta either. The service is also thoughtful as a new business, engaging customers to really understand what they're looking for. Give it a try if you haven't already. read more

This would be our first and also our last time eat here. The pizza was good, the pasta rigatoni was a little salty but still OK. The one thing make us give 1 star review is the service (waitress). When we place the order, we have to re-confirm at the end that it would be 2 pizzas, 1 pasta as the young waitress was pretty rude and seems annoying taking our order, she kept asking "What". Then only 1 pizza came out, we thought the second one was in the making. After a while, the waitress came back to check and we said we ordered 2 pizzas. Then the waitress just said "I didn't hear that", no apologize, and it sounds like it was our fault. When waitress served us the dishes, it was like the dishes got throw at us. We ended up cancel the second pizza. I haven't seen any review regarding the service, so we might be just one of the unlucky one that got treated badly. Would it be because we are Asian? I was hoping to like this place as it was our first time ordering from here. I ordered on line and specifically asked for no red sauce on my vegetable pizza but it was covered with red sauce and my husband ordered a large special and it WAS NOT CUT INTO SLICES! JUST one big unsliced pizza. To bad I didn't open the boxes before I left there with the order but I trusted that they knew how to make pizza and take orders correctly. This is a little gem to the area. The old Hot Heaven was great. But the new owner has 'kicked it up a notch' with quality and choices. Let's be clear here. Pizza is VERY subjective. We tend to like all styles and Amorosos is damn good. I would suggest asking for your pizza well done to give it that Pepe's flair if you like slightly charred crust. As for other items on the menu? The new owner had brought in some of his family favorites and the vodka sauce parm grinders are out of this world. The pasta dishes featured perfect El'dente pasta and once again, delicious sauces to complement. All in all a great menu for a small restaurant. I would say we have eaten here about 10 times since it becoming Amorosa's and when you factor in its BYOB, ( though they have a great, small reasonable wine and beer list) and very reasonable prices compared to other restaurants in the area..You would be foolish not to give it a try. The small intimate setting inside is charming and I guarantee you. You will end up talking to other guests as you enjoy your food. They also completely remodeled the inside making for a great, intimate dinning experience. BRAVO! read more
