I attended a pizza dinner party, with George's pizza as the guest star. That was convenient for me because I've heard that George's is one of the better places in the Greater Hartford area for Greek style pizza. I tried slices of (1) Cheese, (2) Pepperoni, (3) Hamburger and Mushroom, and (4) Sausage and Peppers. For me, the pizzas were above average, but not up there with my absolute favorite CT Greek style places. Strengths included the cheese and pepperoni. The sauce was above average and a bit spicier than some. The crust was about average. The mushrooms seemed like jarred or canned. I would order pizza from George's if I was in the area. An in presuming gem of Unionville since 1978. Our first visit, on the way in we couldn't believe the number of customers walking out with take-out. Why not sit down, enjoy and relax. Well joke was on me. Inside a regular patron, with the same packaging was leaving one of their comfy booths. With a smile I inquired and the fine gentleman said, "These are my leftovers." Then he jokingly dared me to clear my plate - DOH. We sat, ordered beverages, and plowed into the very tempting menu. Full of Appetizers, House Specials, Burgers, Pizzas, Seafood, fan favorite Italian dishes, etc etc!!! Drinks and a large basket of rolls arrived. We ordered seafood linguine with soup and Gnocchi with a salad. Yup. This was definitely a good olde fashioned homestyle restaurant where "more is better". After a few minutes of a steady pace indulging, we paused, took a breath and moments later the waitress swung by and offered a dessert menu and containers for our leftovers with big smile. I've had the Chicken parm dinners, the Spaghetti and meatballs dinner, a couple of their salads and my wife has had their eggplant and baked ziti. Everything was great. It's OK. Typical Greek pizza you can find all over the area. Very Max like of the Bristol area. We went in one day for lunch and it's an older crowd. Really older crowd. We had a pizza and half a grinder. Would say average at best. Wouldn't rush back. Servers seemed ancient and very disinterested unless you were a regular (probably ordering the tuna special). Places like George's totally have nostalgic vibes for me because my dad loved greek style pizza. They serve the pizza two ways: traditional Greek style or NY style. We opted for the NY style because of the thinner crust. I also asked for the pizza to be cooked well done. The pizza was tasty and executed very well. My only gripe, as it relates to my personal preference, is that the sauce is a little sweet, but that is normally the case for Greek pizza. The Wings were also good. The bar area is fun and has TVs...I recommend sitting in there for a different feel than a pizza restaurant. Service was great!!! We quickly had a table on a Friday night. Service was excellent, with appetizer and drinks brought quickly. We got the Mediterranean platter, which had 2 kinds of hummus, tzatziki and baba ganoush. Here's my advice: go on a nice day and sit on the patio! What a lovely little spot. Very unassuming and comfortable. We found this spot after biking and rollerblading on the Farmington Linear Trail and it was perfect. Our server was attentive, kind, and fun. The food was absolutely delicious and really ample portions. And the Corona Lights were ice cold! My husband got the greek salad and asked if they could top it with tuna. They obliged and it was all delicious. I had a special; it was a salad with egg and avocado topped with salmon. It was so fresh. Our son had a sausage, egg, and cheese sub with a side of sweet potato fries. His sub was so good that he inhaled it before I got to take a photo! The sweet potato fries were zesty with the perfect level of crispy-ness. We don't live close by, but trust me, we will be making the trip back to George's. read more

Ate lunch at George's Pizza & Restaurant with a friend last weekend. Was my 1st time eating at this establishment, but my friend lives in the area and has eaten there many times (my wife had also eaten at George's in the past). Owners and staff were very friendly & welcoming when we entered. I ordered a meatball grinder, and my friend had a turkey club sandwich with fries. We also shared a potato skins appetizer. Everything hit the spot, food was very good. It's often hard to find a decent meatball when dining out, but I was liking how George's prepared theirs. Also, the portions were HUGE -- I noticed a nearby table with nachos, the plate was overflowing. My wife called when we were eating and asked me to bring a Chef's salad home for her. That Chef's salad felt like a bowling ball, it was seriously loaded. My wife loved her salad, it was baby green mixture, with a ton of meat on top (she couldn't finish it all, so I helped her out). Needless to say, we have every intention of getting back to George's Pizza & Restaurant in the near future. It's a solid 4 Star Rating, IMO. read more

My family (group of 8 in total) was looking for a place to eat late after an event, and nothing was open after 9 PM in the area except George's. Overall, great food with huge portions; we covered so much of the menu: pizza, stuffed peppers, Mediterranean platter, meatball parmigiana... among other items. In fairness, it's Connecticut and you can likely find better pizza and Italian food at other places around town, but it was still great overall! It's hard to write a review for a place that has been apart of your childhood. I did want to say a few things about my most recent visit with my hubs and 2 nuggets. The server was so friendly and engaging with our 3 year old. We really appreciated that. The pizza is greek style which means it's bread-ier and a little thicker than the thin crust of New-Haven-style. Also they cut the pizza in squares. A medium was enough for 2 adults. The souse has a nice sweetness that I expect from San Marzano tomatoes. Also the cheese has that nice chewiness. My only constructive criticism is that my chicken gyro needed seasoning. My family is a little late to the party finding this gem in the center of Unionville. We now have gone on multiple occasions and tried many different items on their menu and have never been disappointed. The service no matter how busy it is always has been personable and fabulous. Come hungry and expect to take home leftovers because the portions are huge and the owners do not cut corners. We were an online for Halloween night: one pizza and 5 salads. We showed up to a lobby full of guests who were waiting on their order. There were a lot of angry people who ordered online a couple hours before for the order to be ready their arrival time. This included us, we showed up at arrival time and was told our pizza was being put in the oven as we speak. It was about 30 minutes later, and the front hostess was writing down, "stolen pizzas" on a sheet paper which included our pizza. She went to the chefs in the back and said there's a list of pizzas that need to be fired. I overheard somebody saying that they were doing them right then and there. That's when I asked for a refund on the pizza. I was told the pizza was in the oven and then I heard that from the kitchen. I kindly asked the lady upfront if I can get a refund on the pizza since I already had everything else on my order. She seemed very distraught, trying to find a manager. A manager kindly helped me get my refund. Overall, I think they should have shut off their online orders and stopped their phone orders. I was standing in the lobby.. they were taking phone orders and telling them that was going to be 30 minutes while everybody was waiting over 45 minutes to an hour for their food. There were several people, including myself, who were a little annoyed that they were telling people that. The items that we ordered that we actually got to consume were delicious. Classic, comfortable, family-owned Italian & Greek restaurant. Their chef is part of the family and classically trained. After grinding out a football or hockey game, or a rough day at UCONN hospital, George's is absolutely the place to pick you up. Or to have a great night, semi-formal and fun. Excellent food, good vibes, easy-going atmosphere. Their eggplant rollatini is excellent. Stuffed peppers are some of the best I've had at a restaurant. Meatballs are huge, and have a nice balance of beef and flavor. Pretty much anything Italian on their menu is top-shelf. Plenty of cheese but not thick and greasy, excellent sauces, excellent pasta, excellent veal, chicken and steak. Their burgers are outstanding too, coming in at a half-pound easily, and heavy with toppings (if you go Western, you'll get about 10 strips of crispy bacon). Double-fried or curly fries--both epic. The pizza is very good. Closer to Greek style than the typical New Haven style you'll find in Connecticut. Really hits the spot on those winter nights after sweating on the ice or working outside. A nice wine and beer list as you'd expect. Attentive, friendly staff. A gaggle of bubbly teenagers are generally bussing and managing the registers. Everyone is warm and friendly. Good vibes all-around. They also have a bar and lounge. Impressive selection of drinks. The Penicillin they made me was one of the best I've had. Happy Hour offers buffet-style wings and Italian stuffed breads. Their bourbon wings are crispy, sweet but with an edge. It's a popular spot, but you can usually get a booth within 20 minutes. Good takeout. And a variety of desserts including Tiramisu. Just a well-executed, classic, comfortable, Italian dinner spot. It's cozy, it's warm, everything on the menu is delicious.
