The pepperoni pizza was good & probably slightly more cost effective than getting a small pizza $10 vs 16. As you can see, it was PLENTY for 1 person where a small might have been equal to 3 slices & I would have had some to take home. The crust was thin; not quite NY style thin, but it was very good. It was crispy, not too doughy & strong enough to hold the toppings. (Not like Pepes where it is so hard you can cut up the inside of your mouth). My guests split the pizza & although they both complimented the crust, I felt like they thought something was missing. it was ok, but it made us reminiss about the pizza place we used to go to when we were in college that was AMAZING, so definately not 5 stars. This year Harry's won best pizza. Being the pizza connoisseur I am I had to give it a try. We ordered a only sauce pizza and Roasted Red Peppers and Onions as well Both were perfectly cooked. Harry's Bishops Corner has been on my bucket list for a while and my daughter and I were in the area, so we decided to check them out. As we entered the establishment, we were seated right away and are order was taken right away. We ordered a large pizza with Pepperoni and the pizza was okay. As soon as the pizza came out, there was a pool of oil in the middle of the pizza. As we picked up the pizza, it was very floppy. The sauce was okay but the crust was very crispy. The flavors of the Pizza were good but it was just oily. The customer service was great as the waitress came to are table to check on us often. I just tried this pizza and a meatball grinder last night. It was the worst pizza I ever had! It was soggy and tasteless. The grinder was small and the meatballs were terrible. There was hardly any cheese on the grinder and the meatballs were small. They have a nerve charging their prices! I also ordered a piece of pistachio cake or so that's what it said on menu. But what I received was a small slice of pistachio PIE! If I knew it was just a pie with pistachio pudding, I would never have tried it. Needless to say that I won't be going back. read more

Ordered a large cheese pizza on Sunday. I ordered on Harry's website but the order was somehow taken over by Door Dash. Despite being an hour late, I was happy to receive a text from our driver Isabel, that she had just delivered our pizza. Went to the door to find no food delivery order. I called the number provided. No answer. I texted. After a long wait, she replied that she had left the food on the outdoor tables. We don't have outdoor tables. Isabel then ghosted me leaving me with no food, a tab for a paid meal, delivery and tip. When I called Harry's the young lady referred me to third party company in Old Saybrook (not Door Dash) that wasn't answering my calls. If you are accepting food orders on your website and offering delivery, you should take ownership of all aspects of the transaction. I was thrown to a third party to beg for a refund for food never delivered by an incompetent driver. I re-ordered the pizza, drove to Harry's and paid (again) for the pizza just in time to watch the end of the Patriots game. If you're ordering delivered meals from Harry's, DO NOT do so on their website. Use a food delivery app only as you have no recourse in the event of a service failure. Harry's sticks their head in the sand for failed transactions made on their website . This is not made clear to customers. They are subcontracting delivery service to an Old Saybrook company, then unable to issue refunds when there are failures. read more

This year, I'm re-evaluating Hartford County restaurants that I've long considered top tier in their category. This weekend, that brought me to Harry's Bishop Corner ("HBC") for the first time in a long time. I think HBC's pizza still holds up against others in the Hartford County Top Tier. Although I have long admired HBC, it's never been a primary pizza place for me. But that's really a matter of geography. I live about 20 minutes from HBC, and I like several nearby places that are more convenient. If HBC was within 10 minutes, it would be my go to place. HBC makes a Neapolitan style thin crust. It's chewy and has some char on the bottom, but the char doesn't seem like a philosophical mission statement like it is for New Haven style. For toppings, I went with one of my personal fav combos -- Bacon, Caramelized Onions and Sundried Tomato. The crust was thin, appropriately chewy, and still up to the job of supporting the toppings. I'm not sure if it was the sauce, or the combination of the sauce with the sundried tomatoes, but I really loved the sweet tomato notes in each bite. The bacon added a bit of fat, salt and meatiness. The cheese was right on as well. I've had several great pizzas this year, but I can't say any of them were better than this pizza. All of the different components worked really well together. It was a takeout order, the woman at the front desk didn't know what was on the order I had to remind her. She gets half my order and then realizes there were two desserts on the order. She leaves my food on the counter to get cold to get the desserts. This isn't that bad considering she comes back with the two desserts and they are frozen solid, yes frozen to the point that it was impossible to eat. But before I tried eating that the pizza I ordered which was the Buffalo chicken pizza was greasy as can be, giving up on it after 2 slices most of the ingredients weren't spread throughout, instead they were clumped in massive piles. If pizza making is an art this was the work of a 5 year old drawing stick figures. I'm finally done with Harry's. Over the years since Harry's first opened on Farmington Avenue the business has had several owners. All have promised to keep Harry's original recipes. All have failed to duplicate the amazing originals, though their products have mostly been acceptable. The latest owner at Bishop's Corner, however, has done the worst job, not only in failing to retain the recipes but in producing a consistent product. One time it's ok, another it's not. I've been going here for 25 years. The last two times I've been here have been very disappointing. One time we had horrific service, with messed up orders and very long waits. The most recent time was indifferent service and 1/3 of our food order sub-par. The salad dressing for the house salad is not as good as it used to be, and one of the pizzas was a very soggy, tasteless mess. We even asked if they could do anything about it but they refused (granted, four slices were gone but we were a party of 4 who all tasted a slice). Unpopular opinion, but having lived in CT for almost all of my 38 years of life, I've never been impressed or in any way understood the hype around CT Pizza. (New Haven, I'm talking to you) Most of it is burnt (not charred, let's call it what it is) and so unappetizing. Harry's is by far the best pizza I've had in CT. They don't skimp on the toppings, delicious sauce, just the right amount of crisp on the crust, and so flavorful. Since the new owner (I say new, but he's probably been there a few years now) came on board they've had some really great combinations for specialty pies, including a roasted corn (which was DELICIOUS) and a butternut squash that is next on my list to try. Harry's is by far my favorite restaurant for pizza in the Hartford area. They have an extensive menu of pizza, sandwiches, salads, and appetizers, but what makes them really stand out (in addition to delicious pizza) is that they make delicious gluten-free pizza -- which is very hard to find. Any of their specialty, Neopolitan, and seasonal pies can be made on a gluten-free crust. Their website has an entire section on their gluten-free offerings, which is very detailed. When ordering from Harry's, I never have to worry about cross-contamination, which is a huge win. Some of my favorites include Margherita, Alla Romana, and Bianco. The online ordering system through their website makes things super easy and gives you so many options to customize your pizza. Plus, it gives you an estimated pickup time which, in my experience, has always been accurate. Highly recommend! 5 stars all around. read more

Meatball grinder was the best I had in years. The bread was totally fresh. The meatballs were very tasty.

Didn't want to brave the crowds and wanted a good lunch so went to Harry's Pizza. Ordered a large arugula and prosciutto with asiago cheese to go. It was ready on time and delicious and hot. The mound of greens made up for not having a salad while the combination of the meat and cheese ruled! It is the nicest place around and makes having a real good meal so easy. read more

There's a lot of competition for pizza in these parts. And what was great a while ago, may just be quite good now. Such is the case with HBC. It's not bad. In fact I dare say that if it were in Vermont or upstate NY, it could challenge anyone for best pizza. But around these parts there's stiff competition. Here, service had a little attitude. The toppings not quite as plentiful and a crust that was a bit chewier than most. The sauce too isn't quite as rapture worthy. They're still just doing takeout and it's online ordering was pretty easy thankfully. All in all, it just didn't match up to my absolute favorites around here. We have been getting HBC for years, their pizza has always been a family favorite. However, I ordered for the first time the chicken parm "grinder" and it was honestly the worst chicken parm hoagie I've ever had. I am hugely disappointed by HBC. First, the bread is way too soft and not toasted, so it crumbles apart and can't hold the weight of the chicken parm in it. Also, why does this have peppers?? A true chicken parm hoagie does NOT have peppers of any kind. Mine came with red and green peppers, it was so weird. I also had an entire garlic clove in it... The chicken was barely breaded, some pieces not at all and there was no visible mozz cheese. Only redeeming quality about it was the sauce. 0/10 would not recommend this grinder! Their pizza is great though so this 2/5 rating is purely based on the worst chicken parm grinder I've ever had. read more

One slice and a half salad was exactly what I needed. Their salads are great because they actually have vegetables on them. Oh and don't leave without their tomato basil house dressing. I ordered a small cheese pizza and Caesar salad for takeout around 4pm on Sunday afternoon. They said it would be ready in 20 minutes and sure enough it was! It was a challenging car ride home because the pizza smelled so good:) Pizza was great -- reminded me of a New York slice (albeit smaller as a small cheese is more like 1.5 NY slices!). The Caesar salad dressing was the standout!! Oh wow -- I may have to ask my folks to buy some and ship it to me back in California so I have it in my fridge. Quality of ingredients has gone downhill fast since new ownership, while prices have risen. "Meatball" topping is now just some meat-esque topping. I have NEVER had a smooth, on-time pick up at Harry's. Order was late again (based on what they told me). I ordered two full size Philly steak grinders and both were below par. Tried Harry's Bishops Corner Pizza last night on my personal Yelp COVID-19 take-out tour. Harry's came up and we ordered two pizzas. One pizza we got ricotta with a basil pesto and a another with tomato and onion. They were AMAZING. The crust was perfectly crunchy to support the extra toppings. Great tasting sauce and cheese and fresh toppings. The tomatoes with the onions baked so well in the oven, it made the most delicious combo. We will be back! We ordered a couple of Hawaiian pies for home; one large regular crust, the other Gluten Free crust. Both were delicious. Sadly the regular crust was soggy and required the Bronx Flip method to prevent slippage from the crust. What's the "Bronx Flip," honestly, I just coined the term to impress & appease you savvy readers. It's like the fold method, but instead of a length wise fold of the triangular wedge, the wedge is folded from the point upward to the crust.
