In the past, and everything was satisfactory until I encountered a problem during my most recent interaction. The confusion surrounding a roof inspection for a home I'm considering purchasing led to a breakdown in communication. This miscommunication resulted in unexpected charges and conflicting information about the roof's condition, creating unnecessary confusion and frustration. I needed an inspection on the roof for a home I was looking to purchase. I called and set the appointment and provided the details. The morning of the inspection I gave the same information to the roof inspection via the phone. A few days later during the negotiations, I needed an inspection report form Amos. I texted the inspector that came out and he said if I wanted an inspection report it would cost $300. So, I called the main number, and I was informed that they do not conduct roofing inspections until I purchase the home. I went back to the inspector, a couple of times, and requested for a manager's contact information, but it was all met with silence. read more

I needed my gutters and 4 windows replaced and set up an appointment for a quote. The gentleman that came out was nice and thorough in taking measurements and explaining every detail of the pricing. They installed the gutters first and then the windows. Both crews were respectful, efficient and did a great job! I received 2 follow up calls to make sure I was happy with the work and someone came out to verify everything was done as well. I didn't have to start paying until the month after the job was complete and I said it was to my satisfaction. And for that little personal touch they sent me flowers thanking me for my business. The Summary: We signed a contract with the company and made a 50% cash deposit for the job; over a month later, we were told the company could no longer do the job for the pre-arranged contract cost and that the lowest they could do it for was 3x the original quoted price. ---------------- The Long Story: We got quotes from a few different companies to repair, scrape, and paint the trim on our house. Amos Exteriors came in with a quote that was about the same as a few other companies. Tyler from Amos (who is no longer with the company) came out to our house multiple times to answer questions and discuss the cost of our job. We signed the contract with Amos on February 6 for the pre-arranged price to have the job done when the weather got nicer. Imagine our surprise when, after many unanswered messages to Tyler, we found out when we called Amos ONE MONTH LATER that Tyler no longer worked with the company. No one from the company reached out to let us know that this happened. Oh, and by the way, the price we were quoted (and signed a contract for AND made a deposit for) was too low and the best they could do for us was a price 3x the cost. At 3x the original quote, that makes them the most expensive quote BY FAR. The other highest quote came in around half the cost of this new quote. When asked, our new rep, Matt, couldn't explain how Tyler would have gotten such a "low" quote. Instead of the company taking any of the responsibility for the contract that was signed by one of their employees, Matt pushed all blame off on Tyler. An honest company would have, in good conscience, honored a previously-signed contract. The only positive with Amos is that they refunded us our deposit when we asked. I feel like that's a pretty low bar to meet. I let them know that I would be writing a review about my experiences, but they didn't seem bothered. I use reviews to make decisions on companies often, which is why I think it's important for others to know about this experience. I usually don't respond to door knockers but we sorely needed to get rotting wood around our home's exterior replaced and painted. The gal walking our neighborhood 7 Apr said Amos could do anything (we wanted our patio rebuilt as well) so she gave me a 13 Apr appointment for an estimate and said they could call to confirm that in 2 days. They didn't call, so I did and they set an appointment for 15 Apr. No big deal. The rep was prompt. He said said they won't do serious carpentry like the patio, would replace the garage pedestrian door, and was insistent the gutters will have to be replaced; that it was too difficult to remove them without damaging them. I asked that each project component (gutters, paint, etc) be itemized on the estimate. He left a vmail 20 Apr that he was waiting on painter's input. After no further word, I called on 1 May but had to leave a vmail. That went unanswered so I emailed his and other company email addresses on 6 May asking them to call me -- and got a prompt reply from the office that someone would call that day. 11 May I emailed again pointing out no one had called. Two hours later the estimator sent an email with a proposal that apparently he created that day. It had very little detail in its 40 words; no quantity of boards, gutter lengths or anything.. just a total of 38000$ to replace and paint trim, 4900$ for gutters and 4000$ to replace garage door with new steel. I replied asking for more detail but was shocked about the amounts and communications, so I posted this saga to Nextdoor, where I had over 30 neighbors agreeing their estimate pricing was excessive and the communications bad. It feels like they really didn't want the work for some reason, which if true I would have respected being told that rather than having a stiff priced document thrown at me. In these days contractors are busy, but simple business etiquette and respect should not go out the window as it apparently has with Amos. read more

Amos replaced our roof approximately 2-3 years ago. Right after started to notice distinct sound of water dripping down behind fireplace (pretty loud0. Asked Amos to come out and check out. They went up on roof and put caulk around chimney pipe. They advised would only make 1 trip. Anything after that we would have to pay for. Their fix did not work so had chimney company come out. They did same thing for which we paid approximately $200. Still didn't fix it. Water started to leak down to basement. Had 3rd company come out and the found roofing tiles that were inappropriately installed as well as wood that had been damaged likely as a result of scraping off previous tiles. They repaired with new wood, caulk and new shingles. Now no problem. Total cost to have repaired around $600. Would not rely upon Amos for any service after the sale. This problem did not exist before roof was replaced so obviously an installation problem on Amos' part. Dripping/leaking noise was so loud could be tape recorded. Watch out!! This company was unprofessional from the start . They sent two salesmen to our house to sell patio doors. They trashed other reputable companies trying to get our business. When the actual person that was going to do the work cam, he said he couldn't do it . Another guy comes to "clean up" what he could, trash mouths the salesmen and told us he would bring our $2400 down payment personally to us in two weeks right after work as our house was on his way home. Friday came and wen, no call or money. I called everyday, being promised a call from some one. Finally, I get a hold of a woman and she informs me on Wednesday "We only do checks on Friday thank you Michelle" and hung up. DON'T DO BUSINESS WITH THEM! read more

Disclaimer, I'm unable to rate the handiwork this company does but wanted to bring up some red flags. We requested a quote for exterior trim replacement and possibly exterior painting. Received a call back within 24-48 hours. They don't do exterior painting but do replace trim. However instead of coming out to look at the home to provide us with a quote, they suggested that we hire a handyman to quote us how much the trim replacement would cost first and if it was more than $1000 then they would come out to quote the home. The rationale was due to the project possibly not meeting contract warranty minimum. I dunno. If a contractor company doesn't even take time to look at what the project actually entails and give the excuse of not being financially worth it to do for them... what conclusion do we get to? Find another contractor with integrity. (And yes our project was quoted by others well over their warranty minimum. Eyeroll) read more

Hail damage in March 2021. They got the roof done in a month. However, I found about a dozen nails left in my driveway and a half of a grocery bag of metal in my yard (nails, razor, beer bottle cap, tool bits). After 8 months, I can not get an answer on siding after repeat requests for information. We don't like to write negative reviews but Amos Exteriors is probably the worst company we've ever had to deal with. The salesmen will promise you the moon, which we expected, that's what salesmen do. However, once we signed the contract and they had money, we had an incredibly difficult time getting anyone to return our texts, phone calls or emails. In addition, they were months later doing the actual work than they had promised. They also damaged some of our property and were verbally abusive when we tried to get it resolved. The only reason they were given two stars instead of none, is that the actual workmen on the job, tried very hard to do things right. These men have a tough job, as there aren't enough of them and are an Osha violation away from being hurt because they're on very high ladders without proper safety precautions taken. read more

I called for an estimate on some minor roof repair and gutter replacement. Mainly because I don't have the time to do it myself. First of all, he wanted to put a new roof on my house which I did not need. Secondly, he said that I needed more repair than I know that I need. I have been around construction for a long time and I know what I need and what I don't need. He quoted me $5800 for a job that should not come close to that. I have decided to do it myself. I priced the materials. They are less than $300.00 ( minus gutters). I can have the gutters installed for $1000.00. ( easy job). This is not an insurance job so this is out-of- pocket. No Communication:  Silence, even when specifically requested. Around August 17th a request for an estimate was submitted to Amos, for siding on a ranch home. Took a couple of weeks to solidify a date/time for the estimate.  Then an additional week + for the estimate to actually appear in written form.  Was briefly notified of an approximate time of delivery of service between 4-6 weeks from time of estimate for completion of work.  Then, that date changed to 6-8 weeks, (which would have been November - early December 2021).  Even into December, there was no invoice delivered as requested, to see that the products were ordered for this project.  The house was full defaced and ready for the new Hardie Board siding.  Amos was not.  Increased heating costs over Winter months were paid, since there was air coming through the front door/opening in front of defaced house. December 9th, 2021, was the last communication from Amos, only because there were messages left of the status of the project. The 6-8 weeks passed and now into the now 8 months of no completion of the project. (March 2022). On March 19th, 2022, reached out to Amos again to obtain an update.  Nothing was known.  Then, all of a sudden the Hardie Board order magically appeared.  Now because there was a complaint and request for a refund and speak to the owner Rob Amos, it is a rush to complete the project.  The purpose for this complaint; no call from Owner, No refunded monies, and no further calls past March 22nd to rectify this project.  Company cannot be trusted.  No communication since December 9th, 2021. Resolution:  full refund so may hire another company and complete my house project.  A company that is willing to complete even a smaller project.  Most of all that will communicate with a customer. Update: May 7th still no resolution and my home is still defaced. And they removed my 1st review added last month. read more

Had gutters replace and the install was done very poorly, it took 4 return trips and 3 months to correct the issues.

We had serious damage from a weather event in April, 2017 that required exterior repairs. The folks at Amos are very nice people, and they did take care of the many issues we had. That said, it was a long process with issues with repairs, that were eventually completed in October, 2017. Damage to our deck, poor fit and finish, lost window measurements, repairs and painting/repairs in the wrong sequence, windows that were different size to those that needed replacing, etc. The roof is ok looking, not as nice as our old roof. Once we got the correct window, it looked good. The down spouts were awesome, with no issues, and look great. They did take a lot of steps to take care of the issues, which was appreciated. read more

If I could rate no stars I would. A tornado went through my neighborhood in May of 2019 and the work on my home was not completed until May of 2020!! ONE YEAR LATER!!! I lived with mold in my house for close to 10 months. The siding doesn't match. I was told one price for the brick to be fixed in the front of my house and then was sent a text that is was actually $390 more!! I was told upfront they would put tarp on my house where the siding had come off- this was never done! I wouldn't recommend this company to anyone. Had storm damage and Amos did a great job working with our Insurance company getting it straightened out. It took better than 6 months. The roofing job went okay, but after that it was straight down hill. The person who did the take-offs for the fascia boards didn't take into account cuts, so there was not enough material to finish. It was on a Saturday and no supervisor ever showed up. The workers found a way to make it happen but it looks terrible. Then the gutter crew came...after 5 weeks. meanwhile, after every rainfall, we had water in our basement because the roof was running the water straight to the foundation. The person in charge of the guttering division didn't know where his crews were or what they were doing at any time that I talked with him. He told me this was a very difficult job due to the height and how close the houses were (downtown Indianapolis). I told him my neighbor had their gutters replaced and the guys went up on ladders and he basically called me a liar. After another week of waiting I talked to him again and asked him when we were going to complete the job. He said to me "If you can find someone to do it, go ahead." I called the project manager at Amos and told him I was going to find someone and whatever their cost was, it was going to be deducted from Amos cost. The next day, a crew was out and the work was completed. Nobody ever checked to see if we were happy. Nobody ever did a walk around with us. But within 24 hours, I had 2 emails and 2 phone calls about the incoming invoice. Bottom Line: if you need roof work they are okay. If you need gutters, go elsewhere. They are not good. read more

Waited several days and then finally called the number listed on website. Spoke to office person who said she had called earlier that day but didn't leave a message (??????). Explained what I needed and she said 'Jason' would need to call me back to schedule a time to give the estimate. She also gave me his email address to send him pics of what needed to be done.
