The diner has an fun look on the outside, but a very sophisticated look on the inside. I've been there a few times in the past year, it's a good place to go to at night since it's open 24/7, however when they're busy it seems pretty disorganized. The last time I went it took about a half hour to get my check after asking multiple times for it, they also combined my check with my friend's check after we asked for separate checks. Since I didn't want to go through with the hassle of trying to separate the check I just paid for the single check. When I went to the cashier to pay the bill they were trying to separate the check even after I said I would just pay for the check as is. If you ever want to go to this diner I recommend going after midnight when it's not busy in hopes you get decent service. read more

To start the server was a sweet lady. Which in my opinion is all part of your dining experience. My husband ordered the Roasted Turkey Club which was the best he has ever had. The bread tasted homemade. I ordered Eggs Benedict. The eggs were cooked perfect. The sauce had a nice creamy texture but not overly rich. Which is to my liken. Note they serve breakfast all day. When our work group goes out for breakfast following a deployment we usually choose Amphora. What I like about Amphora is that they serve lunch/dinner/breakfast all day long so you can find something you want no matter the time. They also have a massive menu. For years I struggled to find something I really liked enough to order over and over. I've found lately that I'm enjoying very basic items, BLT, Breakfast club, or grilled cheese sandwich over menu items that you don't see everywhere. BEWARE!!! I have to add to my original review that when I received my bank statement the server who was so horrible had given himself an additional $5 tip. I called the diner last week to complain and try and get my $5 back because I'll be damned if they get any more money out of me. I was unable to speak to the manager because I was told he was "too busy" and that he would call me back - well - I'm still waiting. This place is our favorite Saturday morning breakfast ritual. They have the best coffee around (LAVAZZA), and their waffles are awesome. They recently redid their menu, and as a loyal customer, I must say it is for the better. Their breakfasts aren't dazzling, but they are tasteful and not bland, as you would normally find at most restaurants. Their food is always very satisfying. The restaurant is always full on the weekends, as well as for lunch, but never a long wait. We also enjoy coming here after a late night, and ordering a slice of one of their amazing cakes. It's typical mediocre diner food. It's got a very good selection however it is my opinion that this large selection means that they don't do individual items well. I've been going to Amphora for a while because its not far and I can order breakfast any time of the day. Most of my problem is the customer service and the inconsistency of the food. When you go to a diner you don't expect amazing food, you expect something decent to calm your hangover. Depending on who is cooking, the same dish will vary on presentation, flavor and even slight alterations in ingredients. I tried to ignore this because, for the most part, the food was decent. Lately I've seen a decline in attention to detail. I've gotten French toast that was burned on one side before and overlooked it because it was the first time I ever had an issue. Another time I ordered eggs that came out not fully cooked. Instead of ignoring it, I asked the waiter for eggs that were more cooked and was charged for 'an additional side of eggs'. I ignored the charge on the bill because it was $2 and didn't think it was worth the argument. Today was the final straw for me and I will no longer go back. I ordered a meal and when it came out it was not as described on the menu. The problem was that I had ordered this same item before and gotten something totally different. I'm not sure if they messed up the last time I ordered it or if they messed up this time, but the same meal came out as two different things. As soon as it arrived, I told the waiter that the meal was not what I thought it was and he insisted it was. He finally took it back and I ordered something else. He continued to remind me that the original meal was correct and that I was wrong when he came to check on our table - I thought that was strange (and a little rude). When the bill arrived, we had been charged for both meals. I'm just horribly dissatisfied with having to deal with customer service like that. I gave them two stars because there were times that I ate and enjoyed my meal fully. The times I didn't enjoy my meal made them not worth my time. I don't expect the food to be perfect every time but if I'm paying for a meal and I point out a flaw, I don't want to have to pay again to fix the mistake. That doesn't seem fair. Also as a side note - if the menu says "spicy hollandaise sauce" don't expect spicy hollandaise sauce, expect regular sauce with salsa thrown on top. read more

Our family loves this place. We have three young children (2, 4, and 9) and Amphora has something for everyone. We have only been there for breakfast, so I can't speak to what their lunch/dinner options are like. It is our favorite breakfast place, we go almost every Saturday. Worst ever. Party of four. We ordered baked potato, he brings us none. When we asked about it he then explained that they are only served after 4 pm. My daughter Ordered scrambled eggs and they had some Mexican spice mix in them so she couldn't eat them. The coffee was cold and bitter. Waffles were undercooked and gummy texture. I ordered eggs over medium well and they came over easy. We had to Continually flag down our waiter : Ashtad. I asked for A1 sauce to hide the over cooked steak lack of flavor and he brought me Worcestershire sauce saying that's all they had. My Sister ordered a side of mushrooms and instead they mixed them with the ordered shrimp. Such an awful experience- it's sad. He would walk away as we were still ordering or explaining he forgot to bring the English muffins or cream. read more

This place is a bit expensive for some of the food but it is very tasty. I mostly go for breakfast since their French toast and the California eggs Benedict are really good. If I could I would dock another .5 star because they do not offer (real) maple syrup. Although most places here in NOVA don't offer it so I suppose I can't be too hard on them... Well, here I go with another Amphora review. I kick myself every damn time I go back thinking it will be a good experience. It's really hit-or-miss depending on what you order. The manager always is friendly and says hi- he recognizes me since I've gone there often. The Falafel wrap is good, provided the cook does't overcook them. Today, I wanted to go to Chili's for their fabulous Buffalo Chicken Sandwich, but since Amph was closer, we went there and I got the Buffalo Chicken Wrap. It wasn't salty, the sauce wasn't a typical "buffalo" sauce, and the worst part was biting in to a glob of very strong blue cheese. Something tasted almost rotten about it. I now truly believe that the people who make this food clearly do not taste it. You never put gobs of Bleu Cheese in anything- it's TOO STRONG. A little goes a long way. The Tiropita triangles- 2 tasted good, but the third tasted and had the texture of something old. Also, when we sat down, there was a laminated sign advertising the Pie of the Month for March and my husband and I were drooling over the thought of ordering this for dessert. Come to find that the one person who makes the pie at the bakery was out sick today, so no pie. Ok, well then take the advertisement off and let people know this from the start. it really sucks to be let down after you get your expectations up about something. I see more and more 1-2 star reviews and I don't think this place will stay in business unless they perhaps shorten the menu, make it higher quality food, get a new chef and TASTE the food before posting it on a menu. I've been giving this a 3-star review, but I think that's too high. This place has great potential, but they have to make some changes in the kitchen, at the very least. Charging more for lesser quality will only upset people, they'll return less often, and bad reviews will deter others from even giving this place a chance. read more

I have been to the diner a few times over the years and don't recall being disappointed by anything. In recent memory I've had chicken salad sandwich and the falafel sandwich, which were both good. Chicken salad was a nice portion size and not too overloaded with mayo. Falafel patties were seasoned well. Pita tasted fresh. Cookies and cakes in the case near the door look amazing but I've never tried any of them. Will have to make it a point to do so next time. read more

I had a very unhappy experience. First, 2 drunk racists were yelling, the man out of the couple said he hated brown people. Everyone that worked there acted like they didn't hear the slurs and cussing until I went up to management. I think management did a great job getting him out, but then kept coming over interrupting our meal and didn't even try to make up for the bad experience. Recently visited on my lunch break. I ordered the Steak and Eggs. Service was excellent, atmosphere clean. Steak was HEAVILY peppered but still slightly delicious, eggs and sides were very nice. Eating here is a gamble, half of the time they mess up the order. The difference between med-rare and well done steak is BIG. But when it is lucky day it's not a bad dinning experience. Have been going to the Amphora Diner for several years. Have enjoyed virtually all the meals I have had there. Tonight, though, was an exception. The four of us had fine meals and decided to take dessert home with us. They were a huge disappointment. The coconut cream pie was not good enough to eat more than half a piece. Bland and lacking sweetness or "coconut taste". The carrot cake was dry and bland. Taste like it was old and given out purposely with "take home" request. Had we been there for dessert, we would have sent them back to the kitchen. Highly disappointed. read more

I have a very sad story to tell about this place. A little lengthy, but trust me, it's worth reading. Back in the day, this diner was pretty good. It's open 24 hours and you can get your typical diner foods, and choose from a variety of desserts. HOWEVER. I have been there three times this past year: The first time was with a large party late at night, and we waited two hours for our food. Most of the party left with nothing because they couldn't wait that long. They had maybe 3 people on staff that night and our waiter was on his second day on the job, and the only server in the restaurant. The second time was ok...the coffee was pretty good and the waiter was nice. The pancakes were alright but the fruit preserves were bleh... Then my LAST experience I will ever have at this awful place...the waiter was incredibly rude, never even introduced himself. The breakfast biscuit my table ordered came out with egg shells in the egg. When we sent it back, we insisted we didn't want another one prepared. Normally, restaurants will strike bad food off of the check in that case...not this dude. He persistently told us he would go have another one made for us to take home. We thanked him but insisted we did not want another one made. He told us for a final time that he WOULD have one made, then left. He charged us for this breakfast biscuit. My party of three split our check, and he came to collect our tipped checks before I was even done calculating tip...he snatched up the checks of the rest of my table, examined his tips right in front of us, then stood over my shoulder as I wrote his. To add even more insult to injury, a MANAGER came by and timidly asked us if our experience was ok. After we gave a very questionable reply, this guy just backed up slowly and awkwardly walked away without a SINGLE word. Sadly, all I've said thus far about this visit is only half the story of the awful things we experienced. Lastly, the victim of the eggshell biscuit at my table ended up getting food poisoning, just to top off our delightful experience at Amphora Herndon with a nice shiny cherry. My friend wasn't the only one either...on our way out, we were greeted at my car by a puddle of puke from another one of their unfortunate customers. I will NEVER come anywhere near this place again. Management has clearly been shifting left and right, and their wait staff is never secure. It has taken a dive so hard from what it used to be, I truly don't understand how they are still in business. read more

I went to Amphora's with a Groupon deal on a late Saturday morning. There was a 10-15 minute wait to be seated. Which isn't very long, however, I don't think it's worth the wait. When we were finally seated, our waiter was busy or distracted, and let us sit for about 10 minutes before taking our order. The restaurant was busy and the waitstaff didn't seem to be in control of the place. I felt like it was a little chaotic, my chair was sticky from syrup and the manager was rough and frazzled. The upside is the food is decent and generously portioned. We didn't spend the amount of the Groupon, but decided to just fore go the remaining amount because I didn't want to come back. I prefer Virginia Kitchen Waffle House for better food and better service. read more

In my and families' opinion, this place is not good at all. My coworker recommended Amphora Diner and raved how delicious it is, but it's not clean and food is extremely bland. The cups and table were definitely not clean, the eggs tasted awful...who messes up eggs? If it wasnt for my husband I would have gotten up and left. I used to frequent the smaller, original Amphora in Vienna when I was a teenager, lo some twenty years ago. I was one of the ones hanging out late at night, eating pie, smoking cigarettes, and drinking countless cups of coffee. This new (to me) Amphora has much nicer atmosphere, more comfortable seats, and an enormous menu. On this visit, husband and I had a tasty early morning breakfast followed by desert. His cheesecake was amazing, though it lacked a crust of any kind, which was disappointing. My chocolate cream pie was different from what I remember from my teenage years. While before it was a dense, pudding-like consistency with heap of cream on top, now it is more of a mousse base. It's a better pie now, but I'd be lying if I said the teenager in me didn't miss the old style. Service was quite good. I'd eat there again, but doubt I'd go out of my way. read more

I've been coming here for 2 years. Mostly at night around 10-12 am. I've had enough but the night servers are absolutely terrible. Their customer service is a joke. Takes 40 minutes for the server (in my experience) to check on their guests. Completely incompetent. After getting off a red eye flight we were starving! We stopped at Amphoras for some breakfast. The menu was very extensive. It kinda reminded me of the Peach Pit from Beverly HIlls 90210. I had the Salmon Omelet--it was good. The salmon was a tad salty, but nonetheless it was still good. The french toast, waffles, lox, steak and eggs, all looked good. By the looks of everyone's empty plates I'm sure it all was tasty. I also heard their Greek food was delicious--I will try it next time. The staff was super chipper and courteous. I wish I had room for the dessert! On our way out we saw the dessert cart and it looked AMAZING--we almost jumped all over it. read more
