I had my truck towed to Joe's on 1/20/25. First concern told he would have it for a week to compete the rebuilt/replacement of all the components for my transmission. Every time I called to check on, it was the same excuse, waiting on parts, took over three weeks to get back. Second concern, after I had it for about five weeks the transmission began shuttering when shifting gears. After several weeks of back and forth, he finally took it back in. Had it another few weeks. Picked back up truck on 5/24/25, again about a month later, same issue with shifting. I called him to let him know the issues came up again. I had just moved to TX when the truck started shuttering again. He advised me that I needed to bring truck back to him. I took truck to local shop, a complete inspection of transmission was done, including pictures of the entire components of the transmission. Several issues were found and is documented. I have asked for a full refund so I can get my truck fixed correctly. I highly recommend not using this shop. read more

Joe had my truck for over three months, always excuse after excuse waiting on Parts. Finally got it done three months later drove it 6 miles and started leaking transmission fluid immediately. Let Joe know and he said to bring it back during the week. One week goes by two weeks go by, waiting on a lift to open, third week goes by waiting on a converter. Fourth week goes by no answer no response text or phone call. I had my truck for over a month and Joe at AMS was not interested in fixing it. I filed a dispute with my credit card and took it someplace else. Had my truck back in four days. Was the same cost and a two-year 24,000 mile warranty. Do not recommend AMS transmission for anything. read more

*UPDATE* Since the car was left to sit for so long right in front of a wash it got flooded. The carpet will not dry out. Water keeps appearing like some kind of sorcery. Turns out, after further inspection the condensation line from the ac/heater was ripped out and stuffed under the carpet. Something like that does not happen by accident. Long story short: Over 1 year ago my boyfriend took in a Toyota Camry TRANSMISSION to be repaired. Payments were made over the course of a few months. Few months later we took the transmission home. After proper installation my boyfriend decides to drive it to work. Drove a few miles and the transmission locked up. Contacted the shop, regardless of what the issue was, they said they'd repair at no cost. Took it back in. They said he needed a new transmission. Took one in from a junk yard. After numerous calls and excuse after excuse, THE VEHICLE IS STILL THERE. Sitting exactly where my boyfriend parked it when he brought it back. Tires are ruined. New battery that was put in is ruined and the full tank of gas that was put in will need to be flushed. Every time he calls: No one is at the shop. We are extremely busy. We have no mechanics at the moment. The owner is not in at the moment. ETC ETC. I completely understand that time is money of course but this is about honoring their word regardless of the situation and they haven't yet. read more

My transmission had been slipping and shifting poorly, so I looked up transmission shops around me. AMS was close by and had overly good reviews across multiple sites, so I gave them a call. I was able to take it in first thing the very next morning. I described what I had experienced with Joe and then he joined me for a ride around the neighborhood to hear and feel the issues. It was right around Memorial Day, but I think it only took three, maybe four days for the repair to be completed and the price was very reasonable. I took my vehicle to Joe for a trans build and he did everything to help me resolve an issue that was outside of the scope of the job that he didn't have to and even referred me to someone that can help me with additional Engine work I needed . I'm local to the Tucson area, my engine light came on (thought it was the transmission light) and happened to be nearby AMS Transmissions. They went out of their way to fit me in first thing the next morning. Seriously great people. Turns out it was an engine issue, not transmission. Worst decision ever taking my truck to them. Took my duramax in for a front seal leak and asked about replacing the torque converter while it was out. Joe up sold me to a billet converter which they ordered 3 weeks after I paid them up front (I saw their receipt for it). After finally getting the truck back, the first time I towed with it, it set a code and the trans started overheating. I towed it back to his shop and he reset the code and said he couldn't get it to come back. I told him it was only doing it when towing. Anyhow he had it 3 more weeks only to tell me he couldn't find the problem and wanted to charge to start looking for 3 things he thought it could be. I wasn't going to pay him more to start guessing what was wrong. I wound up pulling the trans myself only to find where they had left out a mounting bolt, didn't put all the wiring harnesses back in their brackets and didn't replace the internal filter that he charged for. That's the kind of work you can expect from them. I was unable to recover any of my losses contesting it with the credit card company. I wound up paying them $1800 to ruin my allison transmission. Do yourself a favor and find another shop. read more

In January 2017 I was traveling thru the area when my transfer case failed. I left my 1996 Chev K1500 with Joe to rebuild the transfer case. See also my previous review on Jan 4, 2017. I have now been using my truck for over two months and the transfer case works just like new! Joe and Shelly were very helpful and did a great job. His price was fair and did not try to take advantage of an out of town motorist. read more

I had a Lincoln Town Car break down on 1-19 Rear and went out. They got it towed to the shop and replaced it with in 48 hours on a weekend. I can't tell you how impressed I am with Joe and AMS transmissions. read more

PLEASE BEWARE AN READ THIS OF AMS TRANSMISSION!!!! I had my transmission rebuilt at ams transmission the beginning of october 2015 an was given an in writing 3 year unlimited mileage warranty on my f-350 .i went to pick up my truck after them having it for a week joe called an said it was ready. I go there to pick it up payed in full almost $2600.00 for a complete rebuild! drove less than 500 feet an truck would not shift at all turned around took it back joe an k.c cussed me out saying are you sure you put it in drive i was like really!k.c drove it shift pack selenoid was bad he said after cussing me out. Ams transmission had my truck an additional 2 weeks for that to be replaced! Have had it back 2 additional times as ever since i picked it up in october 2015 it has been very sluggish not wanting to shift or come out of 1st gear.april 1 2016 k.csaid nothing was wrong but bring it back april 4 2016 an when he drops the pan to service it he will inspect everything an make sure nothing went bad.had it back april 4 before 7 a.m joe shows up states will take care of it .its under warranty.went to pick up my truck at 2:30 that after noon my truck hadnt moved i noticed .i asked joe what was wrong with it joe said dont worry about it k.c an i we took care of it .its bullet proof he says.i then go out into the shop i asked k.c how did it look inside when he serviced it was there metal shavings or what did he find.he stated i dont know i never touched your truck.keep in mind joe just stated himself an k.c took care of it! joe an k.c are a bunch of con artist an liars. Here it is in june 2016 i am driving back to tucson az an my transmission wont shift out of 1st gear at all transmission shop states computer is talking with transmission but its not responding at all an transmission is bad .call joe an k.c joe states he will have it towed back to arizona to be fixed or rebuilt.when i ask who is towing it joe hangs up!i call right back k.c answers says joe is not there. i explain i just talked to joe an my insurance company needs to know who is towing it from san antonio tx to tucson az since the truck is financed. He then repeats what i said joe gets on the phone even tho k.c said he was not there cusses me out an tells me dont call ams transmission again! Keep in mind i have an in writing warranty unlimited mileage until october 2018. i filed july 8 2016 with the bbb an also filed july 11 2016 with the attorney generals office giving them the receipt plus letting them listen to the recorded conversation were joe cusses me out!on july 12 2016 ran into k.c at frys on 22nd an alvernon he notices me cusses at me an says i got nothing else to say you can speak to joe's an my attorney.
