This place is located within a run-down strip mall off of Sawmill Rd (across from Sam's Club.) From the outside, it doesn't look that impressive. I probably would have never tried it on my own, had my coworker not made such a strong recommendation for this place for one of our work luncheons. Let's just say that I am very glad that I gave Amul India a try. Despite its lackluster exterior, the interior is modern, spacious, and clean. I've only tried their lunch buffet (which at $8.99/person is a bargain). Compared to other Indian buffets in town that I've tried (Aab, New India, Tadka, Curry n' Grill, Sher E Punjab, Taj Mahal, Banana Leaf), I would say Amul India's buffet is #1 or #2 overall in terms of quality, cleanliness, and variety of food. I'm hoping to come back sometime in the near future to try them out for dinner. read more

Amul India is the best of the Indian restaurants on Sawmill Road. It relocated to a new location. This is one of the best Indian restaurants I have been to. It has a really good buffet. They have a pretty good vegetarian selection, and the items appear to be fresh. I have only been here during the buffet, so I don't know what ordering from the menu is like. It has a good amount of choices on the buffet so you can find something for everyone. The price is also pretty good there. For about $9 you can have all you can eat on the buffet. It's even bigger on Sundays. I think it already has more choices than most of the Indian buffets in Columbus. Sundays are really busy here. A guy is making samosa chaats where you can put your choices of toppings on it. Since they're made fresh they're really good so make sure you have some. A few of the best items on the buffet are the pakoras and the samosas. They have the vegetarian stuff on the one side of the buffet do it's easy to find it. I will be back to Amul India again. It's best to come for the buffet do you can see all the food before you eat it. There is so much more I have to try. read more

I have been going to this restaurant for years. I understand it has changed ownership at some point. These bones in the photo are from two different orders of goat curry. The first time, top of photo, I emailed them but I got no response. My wife ordered this again without asking me. It was filled with even more tiny shards of bone. I expect to have some pieces of larger bone in a curry such as this. However it was nearly impossible to eat. I had to strain it through a colander to ensure I did not get any sharp shards of bone. I am more ranking this one dish and their lack of a response than my history of experiences with this restaurant. It is typically very good. read more

The food smelled good but seemed really rushed. Keema Samosas were totally soggy and dry inside. We got the chicken tikkas came in within 5 mins of ordering lol. Seems like a good thing but it was a bit surprising. The tikkas had a weird aftertaste. Almost like it was a day old. Food came superfast but dinner plates came tumbling after. We had this food sitting infront with no plates to eat. I am no food critic so u don't have to believe me. I have spent many years eating out of frozen indian food and this food reminded me of the past a little bit. The worst part of the experience was the treatment and answers to our questions. We were 4 adults and 2 children. We asked how many pieces in the platter because we wanted to know how much to get and the answer we got was "a lot". Whats up with ur attitude dude! My wife asked for silverware and didn't get it until we got the appetizers. She waited and asked again. But the reply was "you already have it. Check again" . At this time I'm thinking WTF? Fortunately someone who was not waiting on our table brought her some silverware. I wanted to leave but didn't want to leave the kids hungry, lol. Ambience was good and the food portions were apt. I tried Amul India for the first time yesterday at the suggestion of a co-worker who claimed they were "better than Aab." That's fighting words in Columbus, so I had to check it out for myself. While I'm not certain I would say Amul India beats out my beloved Aab, I do think they have an excellent buffet for a great price. For only $10, I had my choice of a variety of vegetarian and non-vegetarian dishes. Some standouts were some deep fried potatoes, saag paneer, dal, chicken tikka masala, and butter chicken. They did also provide a tofu tika masala, which I would definitely have appreciated back when I was avoiding meat! Our servers were friendly and kept our glasses full throughout our time there. Along with the traditional rice pudding, they had a second dessert available. It looks like a donut hole soaked in syrup but the texture was closer to flan. Honestly I have no idea what it's called, but it tasted great and I'd definitely try it again! All in all, I would say this is an awesome Indian option if you're in the Sawmill area and I'll definitely be going back, but I'm also not going to stop going to Aab any time soon. read more

This is honestly the best lunchtime buffet I've had since moving to the Columbus area. They're very generous with the paneer (in the saag paneer) and keep the buffet fresh and full. You can tell they toast their spices because there is such a complex level of mild spices in each dish - but not so hot it numbs your mouth. Amul is now open everyday with a luncheon buffet. Hadn't been there for a few years, since the changed management. The food was quite delightful. My mother and I tried the buffet on Monday 10/2/23 and was quite happy with the vegetarian food we selected. We were met at the door and promptly seated in a booth close to the food. I was using a rollator to get around and was able to easily maneuver around, having my daughter place the options on my plate. There is also easy access to the door from the parking lot. Restaurant inside was nice and clean. We had a nice meal with two wonderful desserts as well as chai tea. If you haven't tried this place, please give a try. You will be glad you did. Even the price wasn't too bad for a nice sized lunch. read more

Amul never disappoints I land over there whenever i am dissapointed from some other Indian Restraunt. Have had: 1. Papdi chat -amazing 2. Paneer tikka and kadai- To par 3. Garlic naan is great! 4. Tried paneer 65 which was amazing too I will highly recommend it, but if you are a spicy tongue ask them to turn the spice level to high. Argh, so torn here - it's really 3.5* for me, but no chai refill knocks them down from the 4* to the 3* option. Came here with my mother and a friend from North India for a large dinner. It wasn't crowded and we were given a table by the window - decent location and we could hear each other fine. I judge Indian restaurants on their chai (rightly so or not, that's just my thing), so I ordered a chai and we also tried a sweet and a salty lassi. I have to say, the quality of all three drinks was 2*, boarding on a 1.5*. The chai tasted like it was just a bag of tea, with a few spices mixed in - they didn't take care with it and it was watery. I had to put more sugar in tableside to even finish it. And there was no refill added (not that, in this case, I really wanted one, but still). The lassi options were also fairly weak and just not that interesting - more like flavored milk than a true lassi. For food, we tried two platters, apps and food, as well as a main dish. We also ordered a lamb saag to go. The food we ordered in with a few spice levels, 3 and 5, and the food to go was ZERO spice. Sadly, the 3 was only mild-medium, which was ok for me, but my companions were very unimpressed. Further, the 5 spice level was still, to them, only medium (I got the heat, but I agree with them that, if you were wanting spice, they lacked). After a discussion with our waiter, we had him bring out a special red paste to boost the spice level. He also added in a few peppers with that to help as well. In addition to the disappointing spice level, the food itself was only ok (hence, the 3* as well). I have had much better in several places around the US, so it's not just a "but it's in Ohio" thing. Additionally, service was "ok", but not great and a few times we just sat there while we waited for our server to even come on the floor so we could flag him down. My water glass hit full empty more than once (another thing I look for in rating service). Finally, that ZERO spice lamb saag we ordered ended up having spice - making my husband sick when we brought it home to him as a treat. So I get the appeal for some people, and I might be judging a bit harsh here, but I am not a fan. read more

I typically go with saag paneer and chicken tandoori anywhere I go and these two weren't bad, but certainly would eat again! The food here is really good, be warned that it is very authentic which means that if something is supposed to be made spicy in India that it will be made spicy here without warning. The lamb vindaloo was exactly that , more spicy than flavorful. The chicken makhani was fantastic , so flavorful and tasted amazing ,I would get it again a million times. Best Indian buffet in Columbus. I thought the price was absolutely fantastic for what you got. I really like that the buffet was set up with all the vegetarian dishes on one side and the meat dishes on the other. It made it very clear even when I didn't exactly know what I was getting, LOL, I at least knew if it was veg or not. They had several dishes that I had not had before and it was so much fun to try new things. They had several desserts that I was able to try as well and the Samosa Chaat was PHENOMENAL! In my opinion, the best Indian food in Columbus. The samosa and pakora are tasty and a sizable portion is provided. I'm also a big fan of the cauliflower chili. For dinner, you can't go wrong. My personal favorite is the saag paneer. I ask for a five out of six for spice level, which they do perfectly. The chicken tikka masala is fantastic, too. I went on the weekend for the buffet. They have a long buffet of entrees, a smaller cold dish/dessert area, and then a station to get a made-to-order samosas. I think they had a decent amount of options for a buffet, as well as numerous options for vegetarians. Most of the food seemed at a bit cooler of a temperature than I would expect. The food was tasty, but wasn't anything special. It's a great place to go and try numerous dishes, if you aren't familiar with Indian cuisine. I don't, however, think that (at least the buffet) holds up to other Indian restaurants in the area. read more

I had higher expectations for this restaurant considering the Yelp reviews were so high! However, I walked away feeling a bit nauseous due to the amount of oil they use in all of their dishes. We got 2 appetizers and split the Amul special with paratha. Everything was dripping with oil. Literally I took a bite with grease coming down my face. Not my ideal way to eat Indian. The service could have been better. It started out well and then we didn't see him again until 10 minutes after we were done with our meal and wanting our check. The sauce literally tasted like an unseasoned tomato sauce, and was not even a hint spicy despite ordering a medium spice level. This is my second visit to Amul India and I am sad to say probably my last. There was a strange vibe in the restaurant last night. Our group of 4 ended up with 3 different waiters which meant the service wasn't smooth. We ordered 4 dishes which we shared. The Kadahi Ginger Chicken description - made with ginger, onions and bell peppers served in a hot wok. The lack of ginger was evident to all our group, not even a hint and bell peppers maybe a few. The chicken was served in a creamy sauce which was delicious but not what we were expecting. It was expressed to the waiter the dish was not what we ordered he consequently checked with the kitchen but didn't seem sure himself. The Chicken Tikka Saag sauce was flavorful but the chicken very tough, dry and did not taste like chicken! Lamb Do Piazza was great, tender chunks of lamb in a tomato sauce. Mixed vegetables in a curry sauce was also very good. I love Indian food but sadly this visit did not live up to expectations. Shame. read more

Food is good, but they are very slow and rude at times. They say if you don't like it, you can leave or we can cancel your order. They must have an overwhelming amount of business to tell customers to leave because they cannot get to go orders on time. They quote 5 Minutes. You're lucky to get it in 15-20 minutes. I've been looking for a solid Indian restaurant since moving to Columbus, I've found it! This place has a great ambiance and the staff is very friendly. My drink was never empty, and the food is wonderful. I had the chicken tikka masala (I have a hard time ordering anything else) and my boyfriend had the lamb vindaloo. We had regular naan and bullet naan, bullet was the clear winner for us both. Their scale is 1-6 and I ordered a 5, the waiter reminded me their scale was to 6 as I repeated I wanted a 5. He didn't seem to think I could handle it but it was just right for me. There was plenty left to take home from each of our dishes, and they gave us more rice! We will definitely be back. read more

We ordered from Amul India using DoorDash, deciding to try it when we saw a 20% off/$5 coupon there. I'm so glad that we did! We had garlic naan, butter chicken, and chicken tikka masala with raita. I was a little concerned because there isn't a "choose the heat" option or anything and some places are hotter than others. My husband likes it hot but I like it mild. We decided to just take order it without specifying heat level and both were mild (as is typical for both of the dishes we ordered). The butter chicken consists of chunks of chicken in curry and the chicken tikka masala is pulled chicken in a similar, although slightly spicier curry. Both were great! We will definitely order from Amul India again soon. read more
