Went here to get dip nails with our group. Explained we have 4 people coming for 2 pedicures and 2 dips- showed up and they told us they thought we only meant 2 people so they said they could only take 2. The place was unhygienic, my nail girl used a used, wet, washcloth for under my hands and had residue from other clients on it. The floor had nail clippings and hair on the ground. They had a few people come in regarding appointments and made them wait 30 min as well. Nail work overall wasn't bad but the place just made me not want to come back. Not a great experience! Edited- within 2 days my entire dip nail on my thumb came off and others were cracked/chipped. I do not recommend this place! read more

I went to this establishment about a week and a half ago to get a dip powder manicure on my natural nails. I first thought it was odd that my nails were not being put under the UV light in between each layer of dip. After the woman finished with the dip, she told me to sit under the dryers for a regular manicure with the smaller UV (I think) light. After I left, my nails looked pretty good until I noticed small imperfections such as the color not covering my entire nail. It's now a little over a week since I got my nails done and about half of my nails have chipped and on some of my nails, it looks like a layer of the dip has come off. I have never ever had this experience with a dip powder manicure, and I will not be going back to this salon, nor would I recommend it to anyone. Additionally, when I was in the salon, another woman came into the salon stating she got her nails done the day prior and they already chipped. Considering this salon is in the North End and right by TD Garden, I would have thought the quality would be immaculate, but I have been proven wrong. If you want a good dip powder manicure, I would NOT go here. read more

I have been coming here for 4+ years now, and I am compelled to write a review. This place was really great, and I am seeing the steady decline. For starters it is not really clean. For $35 dollars a pedicure I would hope for a clean environment. There was cotton balls, hair, etc floating in my "freshly" clean pedicure tub. I almost walked out, after I realized what my feet were sitting in. Then, the waxing room. Never again. There was green wax everywhere, the sink had hair all over it, and the bed was disgusting. Plus the attitudes of the staff, would not make anyone feel relaxed and welcomed. Additionally, the pedicures lately have been really rushed and I will not be back. I love the French manicures here! They always last a while even though they arnt gel. The only reason why this salon is a 4 is because the pedicures are ridiculously expensive and the staff aren't as friendly as most places. Usually I get a big talking to about not getting gel which can sometimes be awkward. However my nails always do look great. read more

I moved to Boston about a year and a half ago and I find it incredibly hard to find a good and caring salon after going to the same one for 18 years. The location is conveniently on Hanover right across from the BPM and Haymarket station, they take walk-ins and reservations, and they have a plethora of nail polish colors. The service was good but fast, the color has lasted me about 1 month now and still looks good (pedicure) and the price was right. Where I'm from, going to get a pedicure takes about 1 hour and it comes with a complimentary massage and amazing customer service. It actually really surprises me how little quality goes into the nail salons here unless you're paying for an over priced pedicure somewhere posh- good customer service should come no matter the price! For the Boston Proper way, this place is considered great though. The MAJOR downside to this place was that the customer service is slightly lagging. At the end she added a $4 charge to my acrylic refill, that was for cutting the nails down! I'm sorry WHAT? I dont appreciate inconsistency and when salons nickel and dime you for made up services. Now i deff wont be going back. I didn't have time to get to my usual nail appointment in Medford. And luckily I stumbled upon Amy's nails on my way home. I decided to go in, wait time for a walk in on a Thursday @615pm was about 20 minutes, not bad considering I didn't have an appointment. Clean place/ limited color selection Now here's where my dissatisfaction begins; the nail tech that was assigned to do my acrylic refill botched my nails. First of all, the pink powder for my refill ended up all over my cuticles and on my actual finger, she didn't do a good job cleaning up at all, I had to go home and shape and peel the gel powder away from my nails, she was extremely aggressive when filing my nails with the machine, when I had mentioned that my nails are uneven and too thick and asked to adjust, I got attitude. For a $30 dollar acrylic refill + fixing 2 nails, I do expect a good job! If I'm unhappy with the shape, or find you to be a bit aggressive, I would appreciate recognition and good customer services, not attitude and smack talking to your coworker about me in a foreign language. Went in last Friday for the first and last time for a manicure and pedicure. First up, the pedicure: The woman barely touched my feet. Without getting into too many details, they needed some love and got nothing. The massage was more of an imaginary massage and the chair did a better job overall in that category. Fast forward two days- my nails are already chipped. Major Bummer. As for the nails: I got a french manicure shellac and they are also already all chipped. The woman who did them couldn't make a straight line with the white polish and my nails came out with very blurred lines. After she had finished I noticed that she hadn't done the white tip all the way around, but sort of just trailed off on each nail. Back to the drawing board, so to speak. At the end I just wanted to leave as I was exceptionally frustrated with the experience, and with myself for not going to my usual ladies at Nail Sensation in Charlestown. To top it all off, the total for a french shellac and pedi was $63. I was astounded. I couldn't believe how much I was paying for such mediocrity all around. I had let my nails grow out and wanted to shape them into an almond shape which I don't usually do. Mary did an excellent job of both shaping my nails and helping me pick out a color. I broke my wrist almost 4 weeks ago and came here today for a pedicure as it is very difficult for me to do a lot one handed. Upon walking in & asking if anyone was available for a pedicure- I was told to go pick a color then have seat - mind you, no one told me which seat to sit in. The technician then watched me struggle to get my coat & shoes off - NEVER ONCE OFFERING TO HELP. I then finally seated myself. Once finished, I was moved to the drying area where it doesn't seem the fan was working. I sat there for a while. I then left. Upon coming home - I realized my nails were totally smudged because they were not dry enough - having no to redo them on my own one handed. I will NEVER RETURN to this salon. I live in the North End, so Amy's Nails is very convenient for me, and I like to patronize neighborhood businesses. I have been here 10+ times since moving to Boston five months ago. I've gotten manicures (regular and shellac,) pedicures, and I've gotten my eyebrows waxed. The ladies here are friendly, but unfortunately, the quality of the service varies vastly depending on which tech is on duty. Most recently, I had two manicures in a row ($14 a pop) that chipped within a mere couple of days, and my last pedicure ($28) was rushed. It probably lasted fifteen minutes total, from beginning to end. The prices here are high, and it feels like their quality of service doesn't always match that. Worst nail salon I've ever been to in my entire life. First of all, customer service was excruciating because all the women treated me subpar. Maybe because I'm a younger client of color as opposed to the affluent white women they're used to serving... They gave me attitude about everything: not wanting to make an appointment, wanting my nails long, asking them to file more for the shape I wanted, an extra coat of polish, etc. After 24 hours, one of my nails completely came off and when I came back to fix it, a completely different woman gave me the WORST attitude possible in the literal 3 minutes it took to fix my nail. Not 20 minutes after leaving the salon, another different nail came off. For paying $40 (including a 35% tip), I at least expect them to be a little nice to me. All the people in the salon I noticed having cordial conversation but the staff here were so horrible to me. This is one of the best nail salons I've found in Boston. I really don't care much about the experience while in the salon, what matters to me is how my nails look and how long they last. I've gotten two gel manicures here with two different nail techs, and they've both lasted a ridiculously long amount of time! I've tried gel manicures other salons but none last nearly as long as the ones from Amy. I was able to walk in and get an appointment both times, and the techs were very polite. I was really indecisive about what color I wanted the most recent time I was there, so I appreciated the tech's patience and assistance in helping me decide. Nice open and clean space. This is a good place to go with a friend or two because there is plenty of room for everyone. They lose one star for inconsistency- I have had one of the best manicures here and one of the worst. It really depends on who you get. They are priced similar to other North End nail salons, but higher than the usual $35 mani pedi on Newbury. Also they only accept cards for $10+ and you cannot tip on a card. Amy's is a great spot because they have lot's of technicians working so you don't have to wait really and lots of good color choices. I use gel colors and they have a huge selection. Also, if you know of a specific color you like you can ask for it and usually they find it for you. Pedicures are great, my toes always come out perfect afterwards. Not the best place for "relaxation" as it's always very busy and loud in there. But I think the aftermath is what matters, how your nails and toes come out looking. The staff here was very nice, but it was the quickest, skimpiest, most rushed pedicure I've EVER gotten in my life - I was in and out of that chair within 25 minutes. There was no massage, just a very quick rub of my calves - she didn't even do my feet. She only trimmed/filed my first 2 nails and not all of them. As I type this I can feel the nails on my smallest toes scratching against my socks. At the end of this rushed treatment (the salon was not even busy, by the way) I asked why she skipped the massage? She replied that she did do a "short massage" and that to get more than that I'd have to pay for a spa/deluxe massage. I have never gotten a pedicure somewhere and had them skip the massage. I had actually really looked forward to that part of the pedicure because my feet were hurting. On top of their already steep prices, they want to charge extra for the massage part. Unreal. I won't be back. North End Nails down the street is cheaper and they include a massage in their pedicures like all the other places I've been aside from this one. I come here every 2-3 weeks since moving to Boston in September. I try to call ahead but I have never had a problem getting right in for a gel mani or pedi. The most I have ever waited is 5-10 min on a busy day with no appointment. The staff is friendly and everyone does a great job on nails. I would recommend making sure to get three coats of polish before the top coat. My nails tend to last much longer that way. Amy's is affordable and perfect for a quality mani/pedi. read more

I am surprised by some of the negative comments on here. Some of these people sound like they would be unhappy with just about anything. I have been coming here since they opened 1-2x a month (so basically 100s of times) for mani/pedi and eyebrow waxing. I can tell you these ladies are good at what they do, nice and very accommodating. I do not go any place else and have been in many salons in Boston previous and was not impressed. I followed Amy from Ashasi nails on Hanover to her new salon. I just LOVE it! The best part of this salon is how CLEAN they are here! Most salons just pull their tools from a box stuffed in a drawer somewhere, and god knows where those tools have been used before you. At Amy Nails, all of the girls put their tools into a disinfecting machine after each use, and take them out of that machine before each use. They use brand new foot scrubbing sponges for each pedicure. They have a HUGE selection of colors (especially gel nail colors) On top of that, all of the girls there are SO friendly and they really do a great job! I always go to Amy's and personally there's no other spot in Boston I would go to. They have average prices and they always do an amazing job & the tip is included!!!! Manicure with gel last 40 mins max and the staff is always super nice with me! Sometimes I find new girls training who are not really prepared on what to do, but I never found super rude people (like I had in Newbury st.) which refused to make me what I asked. **BEWARE**!!! On first inspection this place looks fine and I received a decent pedicure with no issues that I was aware of. Roughly a week later when changing my polish I noticed that both of my big toenails and one smaller toenail looked white underneath on about half of the nail. Seems that I contracted some type of toe-fungus from them and had to cut off all portions of the nail that had white under them (which actually wasn't even attached to my skin anymore) so now I can't wear any open toed shoes for the rest of the summer!! it's surely embarrassing and gross to have to post this but i don't want it to happen to anyone else! And I can ASSURE you that's where I got it because I literally have been going to the same nail person/place (Tina @ Cambridge nails on Cambridge street) for about 12 years and never had this happen before. Even after moving to the North End I still normally commute over to see Tina but I had a wedding to go to and was strapped for time so I decided to just try Amy's that one time. Big mistake!!!
