Don't bother getting your eyebrows done here. Worst experience I have ever had. Never got asked what I wanted. Kaye's down on the bed had the wax put on ripped off then had my arm pulled to get up. My friend and I went there yesterday for manis/pedis. She was lucky and got someone who was very nice and very good. I, unfortunately, wasn't as lucky. The person working on my mani/pedi was rude, unhelpful and sloppy. I've been to this nail salon before and my past experiences were decent, so I never have high expectations when I go. But, this was one of the worst experiences I've had there. Will I go back? I have a hard time believing there is any truth to a negative review about Amy nails. Some people just have unrealistic expectations I think but ANYWAY the thing is amy nails is the BEST - and Judy, for that matter, is my #1 girl (although everyone I have seen has been great)... I went from never getting my nails done, to get a shellac, and now I have stiletto nails with acrylic tips and gel overlay and I get endless compliments and I am pretty much as cool as Rihanna now so there! Got my eyelashes done last weekend and I am never going back to bare lashes again ---- its the best investment and when I say I #wokeuplikedis now its a ALWAYS good thing. Pretty upset about my experience here. I've tried it a few times to keep giving it a chance but this was the last time. The woman cut me 3 times! Also, kept applying the wrong color. I had to keep reminding her of the color I wanted. She didn't even fix it, just painted over the wrong color, so still didn't come out right. I also asked for the new gel alternative and she gave me gel. She seemed angry or frustrated the entire time, which made me uncomfortable. Today was a loosing battle.. This salon, while appearing to be accommodating, didn't have great service nor high quality. I looked online before going and saw the choices. It didn't occur to me that they would be out of parafin. Then they tried to upsell me to the organic pedi, which was most expensive. In fact, had I not looked online before going, you would think this was the only choice because that was the only page in the brochure they showed us. Then after settling for a lower pedi, they told me the polish I chose would be an extra $5 because it was more long lasting. It took a while to get that figured out. To begin, it's my fault for continually going back here. It was mostly out of convenience. On previous visits, I only had some minor gripes: bad attitudes, rushed paint jobs, unclean acrylic buffing tools. Tonite I got an acrylic fill, however, and it was like an hour and a half of pure torture. Not only did she buff all the way to the skin on my pinky nail, I left bleeding from two different cuticles. I'm obsessed with this place. I used to get an occasional manicure and otherwise always paint my own nails. And then Amy's came along. They opened up right around the time that I moved to the North End 2 years ago and I've been there basically every 3 weeks ever since. Judy is my girl. She is so sweet, attentive, and really cares that you're getting a good quality mani or pedi. My gel manicures usually last 1.5-2 weeks, sometimes even 3 which is awesome in my book. They have a rewards system that gives you a $15 credit after 10 visits. They stay updated with colors usually and are super familiar with their inventory. Amy's gets super busy around 5-6pm when everyone gets out of work, so don't go then if you aren't willing to wait. read more

I have been here a couple of times and the service is no good. Most of the staff is really rude and won't even look at you while you're getting your nails done never mind talk or be polite. Two out of the three times I have been, my gel manicure peeled off. Once, the day after I got the manicure and another time 3 days after the manicure. When I went in to get my nails fixed they were extremely rude and gave major attitude about fixing the nails. I usually go to secret nails which up the street from Amy's. But my appointment got messed up and seeing that Amy was close by I walked and asked for a fill. There were no clients in there so I was able to get seated rather quickly. Cathy started filling my nails and I kept saying the acrylic is to thin because I could still see where the fill line and the edges were lifting. She said once it's all filed and shaped it will be fine. I said ok thinking that she knows more about this then I do. She told me to go wash my hands and that's when I said my nails aren't filled you can clearly see where the nails have grown out and where the sides are lifted. Basically she was having me leave just the way I came in. That's when Marie or Maria stepped in and she agreed with me . Marie had to refile, refill, and shape and paint my nails again. It was not worth it and I would not recommend going here if you are getting acrylics. Don't waste your money here! read more

As soon as I walked in I was worried. The place stinks. I'm familiar with nail salon odors, but this was unbearable. Technician doing my nails didn't acknowledge me, she simply talked with her co-workers in their native language. There was a lot of pointing and laughing going on. I could be paranoid, but it seemed they were making fun of people. All of that I could live with. What put me over the edge? The place is filthy. Worst manicure I've ever had. I just happened to pass by the nail salon yesterday evening and decided to stop in. After the woman at the front desk greeted me, I suddenly remembered that I didn't have any cash. I know a lot of places don't let you tip with a card so I asked and she said I could use my card. Unfortunately, I later found that I could only use my card for the service and I felt guilty that I was unable to leave a tip. However, I now think a tip wasn't strictly deserved. The manicurist sat down and didn't greet me or look me in the face. She didn't even respond when I smiled and gave her an enthusiastic "hello". Literally the only three things she uttered were to rinse my hands at the sink in the back (after putting on thick cream), to pay, and to move to the dryer. She reluctantly pointed me in the direction of the sink and the dryer (I expected a little direction since this was obviously my first time here!) Also, there was absolutely no massage! I didn't expect a long massage due to the price but I don't think a minute (or even thirty seconds) is too much to ask! She applied the cream in a couple of seconds and didn't even rub it in. The nail dryer is the weakest salon dryer I've ever used. And last, but not least: When I got home and looked at my nails in better light, I realized that the nail polish was not applied evenly! When I'm away from home (moved out of state recently) there's nothing I miss more than Amy's Nails & Spa - by far best nail salon I've ever been to... and I've been to a lot! Judy is the best, she's seriously a perfectionist and does my acrylics better than anyone I've ever been to (I recommend making an apt if you are going w/her though)! Prices are great, and the salon is as clean as it gets -- it's the newest nail salon in the North End. I go here for eyebrow wax sometimes too, and they always do a good job. I would advise you ignore the bad reviews on here and try it for yourself - I get my nails done every 10 days.... and I've never left Amy's unhappy! :) Can't wait to be home this weekend so I can get them done again! read more

I live in the North End and have been here many times. When Amy's opened the service was the best you could find in the North End. Now I can safely say it's the worst. I made an appt for myself and a friend and when we walked in we were told we had to wait 15 minutes. When I asked why they allowed us to make an appointment if they were too busy the girl at the desk said that everyone just walked in and it got busy- (why are you taking walk ins when you have 2 appts scheduled)? The owner was very nice and apologized so we waited. Once we were sat the water in the pedi basin was cold however they did bring over warm water to offset the chilly water at our feet. The technician was very cold, barely looked at me, was borderline rude and did a horrible job. For $42 for a mani/ pedi I shouldn't have to shape my own nails before she applies polish. Many steps were either so quickly brushed over or skipped all together. My cuticles were barely pushed back, there was no cuticle oil used and there was no massage at all, just a quick slathering of lotion on my legs and hands. I will not be going back to Amy's. It's a shame because it was my favorite for about a year. read more

I wasn't entirely pleased but I assumed that since it was the day before Valentine's Day they might just be really busy. My nails started coming off THE NEXT DAY. I'm all about giving second chances so I went back in and showed them, hoping they would do their best to fix them. The first time I went, I received a great pedicure. The second time, if I didn't have an experience like the first, I would never have gone back. Very busy which is good for them, and not too many non spa decor however this pedicure was not only the quickest I have ever had (and I have had at least one hundred) but sloppy and still needed more "pedicuring". My girl ordered her lunch on the phone while she was working on my hands, after scrolling through pictures of their menu and finally coming to a decision. She also got up in the middle of my pedicure to.... i don't know what. She could not have been less interested in my presence--didn't speak to me, didn't look at me. I would say she wasn't interested in my money either, but she did manage to charge me an extra $3 for my gel removal (WHICH WAS NOT COMPLETE). I still have callouses around my nails that were not completely removed, and they made me get up and walk through all of the other customers to wash my hands rather than remove the lotion for me. $45. These service personnel are just plain rude. They are shouting over top of your head in non-English and acting like your manicure is interrupting their gossip. Some of them will be constantly looking away while they are supposed to be doing some intricate work on your nails! The quality is very average for the treatment.
