I came to South Street nails to simply have my gel polish removed. I was in town for a short visit, and my gel manicure started to chip. Rather than pick at it and ruin my nails, I decided to have the gel polish professionally removed. I did a walk-in and was served right away. I think the staff was a little upset that I opted not to get a new manicure done, and simply just wanted to gel polish removed, as they treated me very cold and indifferent. I was absolutely stunned that it was $20 to remove gel polish as my typical nail salon will do it for $10. This is all this review can speak to, as I have never had my nails done here before. read more

Called for a next-day appointment for a gel manicure. Alicia was excellent. My gel removal was caked on and she removed it with care. Excellent and precise nail sculpting and great attention to detail. The salon is very clean and the staff is very friendly. I highly recommend. read more

Out of all the nail salons downtown Boston, I recommend this one. Cute open-ceiling, exposed brick building on South Street is clean and super cute. Unlike other nail salons downtown that are unkept and unorganized, this place has a cute Check-in desk, nicely placed mani stations, a wall of drying stations and cute pedi recliners that are set in two's (perfect for a pedi date!) I came on a Monday over lunch with a colleague and it was awesome. We did call for an appointment, which I recommend. They get busy and take walk ins but I recommend making an appointment. I noticed clean floors, sanitized tools and a clean pedi tub. I got a gel mani and regular pedi. Both very well done! I'd come back! read more

I've gotten gel here before and it has always turned out great. Came in last week and was convinced to get dip by one of the employees. I have been meaning to try it, so I thought I would have it done. In the past, they soaked my nails and removed all the cuticles (like all other nail places). This time, the tech trimmed my cuticles while my hands were dry and I noticed that she missed a bunch of spots. After I asked her to get the spots she missed, she got a bowl of water so she could properly trim them. It seemed like she was trying to skip a step. If I'm paying $45 for my nails, I would hope that they would be done properly. My friend was also getting dip, and they didn't soak her nails. The dip color picked up a bluish tint almost immediately as you can see in the photo. The color is also not uniform throughout the whole nail like it is with gel. Overall, I love this place for gel but I feel like I got scammed with dip and on service. They have a ton of colors, but I wouldn't recommend getting dip done here. read more

I saw LiLi today and she did a fantastic job with the removal of old dip polish, adding tips, and doing the dip service itself. I don't usually get my nails done in the city so the $85 price tag was a shock, but my nails do look awesome! read more

Hidden gem of a nail salon, right over the Summer St bridge. Beautiful indoor space, cozy, clean, and welcoming with exposed brick. I am always able to call the same day and get an appointment (even on a weekend!). I always get a gel manicure and spa pedicure, and am always happy with the color and shape of my nails. They don't always have matching colors for toe and fingernails (technically the #'s match but the color doesn't actually match), but that seems to be the same at any salon you go to. They're willing to show you the two colors side by side and if they don't match once on your nails, they'll find you a new color that is close and will fix it. Decent variety of brands and colors of nail polishes, but could use a few more options of "types" of manicures/pedicures you can get. Decent prices compared to everywhere else in Boston (especially Seaport)! read more

Have gone there 2 times previously for gel manicures and has been OK. Prior time went for chrome and they did and amazing job. However, this past Friday they rushed the job (even though there was no one waiting and it was far from lunch or closing time). I asked for square nails and got round, I asked for chrome and got splotchy glitter. I don't think I will be coming back here at $53 for chrome nails. They are very nice, however my manicures is far from normal, the edges have globs of gel polish and I am sure it will.not last the holidays. read more

South Street nails is the best nail salon experience I've had in Boston. I've never had a better manicure! I always leave so pleased with my nails. The dip lasts so long and doesn't start pulling up at the cuticle after two weeks like when I get my nails done at other salons. They also shape my nails so they are long and slim- other places don't do this and my nails end up looking wide at the top. I used to live nearby and don't anymore but still travel to South Street nails because they're the BEST! read more

Bad service, bad products and incredibly overpriced (55 dollars for dip mani). Spend your money elsewhere where your DIP/SNS nails will last longer than 72 hours. This is a manicure done on Friday night around 7pm. The top coat on ALL NAILS are peeling (especially pinky) and they filed my thumb nail down so much they had to add an extension - poor craftsmanship. If you want a good solid nail place go to Elegant Salon and Spa in Medford. Trust read more

Very nice nail salon. They offer gel-X and I know the price is comparable but expensive because most salons don't offer this product. Three of my nails were not as straight as I prefer, but I know I'm hyper OCD. I do enjoy my experience, they're so kind and catering. This used to be my favorite nail salon, but it seems that service has gone down and their polish selections are more limited. The technician barely pushed back my cuticles and hardly spent any time on the cleaning, shaping and polishing. It felt very rushed. Was also not helpful when I expressed what type of polish I want. My mom and I decided we wanted to get our nails done - ya know, to "treat ourselves" on a random Monday evening. South Street Nails & Spa looked like the best option around the Chinatown area so we gave it a shot! It's located in a very convenient area, especially for those who work near the Downtown/Financial District. I can guarantee this place is most likely packed after 5pm during the weekdays. My mom and I both got the gel manicures for $30 each. We could tell our nail technician was very skilled and she was very careful with our nails, such a sweetheart! I will be back again soon, and probably more often in the Springtime when I can get both a manicure and pedicure. read more

Lynn is amazingg! I've come to her about 10 times for A gel mani & once even to try the dip powder . She takes her time, cleans my cuticles very well and even though I had short nails, she always makes sure the look 5X longer ! Not to mention much healthier when I get them done here bi-weekly. She is also super friendly! Remember to get a loyalty card . $20 gift card after 10 visits . read more

I just got out of an appointment and I'm pretty disappointed. I had originally asked for oval nails but the technician cut them square and said they would look better this way and more natural. When I asked if she could round out the nail she barely filled it at all. These are fake nails but they are cut way shorter than I wanted. I had asked for them to be not too long but this was not what I had in mind. The technician also mentioned twice that she was in a hurry to get my appointment over with and go home. As for the quality - a bunch of my nails are uneven - the most extreme is my thumb shown in the picture. For the amount I paid I would have expected better. I saw other clients getting much better service so maybe it depends on who is doing your nails. Pretty poor service. read more

It's still a five stars for me kids! I've recently started getting dip nails and this place does them so fricking well! They don't chip or crack for weeks! The only reason I ever have to get them take off is because my nails grow out! My last dip nails lasted a month! They have put up plexi glass at all the pedicure and manicure stations and are very diligent with cleaning. COVID has certainly hurt their business as the last two times I've gone it hasn't been anywhere near the level it used to be at. They have a system if you use cash to pay you get a stamp card that gives you a gift card after a certain number of uses so USE CASH! They also very evidently appreciate it. If you're looking for a place that's been consistently amazing service and product look no further. The women are amazing and talented and you'll be looked after! read more

Everything was really clean and there were clear shields between the customer and the nail tech. Linh was super meticulous and did an amazing job cleaning up my messy and brittle nails. They're really short in the first place due to previous damage but she did a great job preserving the length while shaping them so that they don't break. The gel application was great as well. The whole team was also just super nice and friendly, please support them! read more

When I get a French tip gel pedicure at the place I normally go to, I pay $60 - and that's including the 20% tip. It ends up being $80 with tip here. Although my nails have always turned out good here (except this one time recently when my top coat on my dip nails peeled off after like 2 days) and the location is super convenient for me, I just can't justify the price anymore. read more

I literally can't understand for the life of me why this place is rated well. I'm new to Boston and was looking for a nail salon close by which led me here. To keep it short, it was so dirty and hot. There was someone else's nail dust all over on the counter where I put my hands. My nail tech used the restroom in the middle of my appointment and returned to me without washing his hands. I asked for a dip manicure which he obviously had no idea how to do, he applied the steps in the wrong order which left me with a grainy-textured manicure that I couldn't ignore. I asked him to fix it and he rolled his eyes and put a layer of gel on top to cover up his mistake. He then charged me for the price of dip + gel and lied to my face when I asked him if he did so. Without excessive exposure to water or picking at my nails, this was three days later. read more

I've been going to this nail bar for quite a few years, since my office is nearby. I've always been pretty disappointed in their selection of colors for gel -- and I've always asked year after year if they'd consider getting some brighter colors, even some neon colors. I love brighter, happier colors, especially when I'm getting ready for a vacation. I went in today, looking to get a shade similar to what I have on now (regular nail polish from my collection) and it happens to be a bright pink, more on the neon side. I looked and looked and couldn't find anything that made me happy enough to spend the money on. Finally, I asked one of the girls, "Do you ever get new colors?" "No, that's all we have." "Would you ever consider ordering some brighter colors? Maybe some neon colors?" "No, that's all we have." "Okay, I'll take my business elsewhere." Let's be real -- gel manicures are NOT inexpensive. If I'm spending my hard-earned money on something that only lasts a few weeks, I want it to bring me joy. Purchasing a few new colors on their end would probably earn them more money than anything else. I can't believe they'd turn down a customer request as simple as mine. I'm never going to get my nails done there again. read more

I absolutely love this place, I've gotten a gel manicure from them several times and it always lasts me at least two weeks. They do a wonderful job, and I felt safe with the plexiglass dividers, contact tracing info and thermometer reading as I entered. Definitely support these folks if you can! read more

I have been going to get my nails done here for years now because it is close to my apartment, they do a good job with my nails, and they are always nice and friendly to me. I currently get dipping powder nails, but I have had gel nails done there and regular polish as well. I see other reviews where people have been complaining about them not having color choices I think they have plenty, but I don't like wild colors anyway. I get compliments on my nails and nail color often. I see photos other people post of cuts and I have never been cut here or had a bad experience and like I said I have gone here regularly for years now. As far as the price they are not an inexpensive nail salon but I think their prices are competitive for the area. read more

I went through the effort to download the yelp app in order to write a very angry review for this nail salon. I had been growing my nails longer using the dip powder manicure method and I loved my nails. It took me months and I had finally had the nails I wanted. I came in today and this is what happened: 1) My dip nail removal method was janky and not done properly. He was soaking my nails in a bowl of nail polish remover then filing them down with the electric filter. He got to my pinky nail bed and it hurt me through my nail. Ouch! 2) he asked if I wanted my nails shortened "sure", I said, "they're too long for when I type on my keyboard". He cuts a nail and asks if it's ok and I say yes. 3) he then continues to file down whatever nail was left from that cut!! It looked like my nails never grew out, they were not evenly filed whatsoever. When I told him it was too short after, he went back and started filing MORE. Are you kidding me?? 4) I'm trying to hold back tears at this point, thinking I'm going to be paying $55 (removal and new dip nails) to get my nails butchered by this guy. I say "I don't want to do dip anymore, I just want to finish this up and leave" (staying relatively composed for what it was). He then goes into my cuticles WITHOUT soaking them. He was roughly yanking out my skin around my nails, also very painful and looked awful. Finally, I burst into tears, get up and say "I want to pay and leave.". They charged me $20 for my stubby, hurting nails. I then reluctantly tipped $3 because I felt awkward that they even charged me... WHILE I WAS CRYING AT THEIR CASH REGISTER. (This is how the guy makes a living so I have some empathy there, unlike them). I am so upset with this experience. I will never be back. You lost a loyal customer, and shame on you for charging such a loyal customer for that experience. (I've attached before and after photos of my nails here) read more

I used to love coming here until I had an awful experience on March 14th. I came in with gel dip on my nails. I wanted my nails to be filed only a little because I like to keep them long. The nail tech named TV decided to cut my nails in half. When I expressed that I didn't want them cut she insisted that they needed to be cut. When I decided to stay and continue to get my nails done, I ended up getting the old dip powder taken off my nails and just have gel which is fine. She also fixed my thumb with a fake tip which I appreciated and expected to pay extra for. Looking at their online prices I found out I was charged for a gel dip set which is $65 when I only ended up with gel on my nails which is $45 on their website. The gel nail polish that they used on my nails is peeling off on its own only 8 days later which is the 22nd. I've never been so disappointed with a place I used to enjoy coming to and even recommend to others. Not anymore. read more

I love getting my nails done here while waiting for my train! Sometimes it takes a quick phone call to make an appointment in an hour if I can walk in without it being too busy. Plus everyone who works here is extremely kind. If you mess up your nails while leaving, they will fix it with no hassle. read more

One of the more neutral colors I've chosen but they have a great variety of colors. Usually the one of the staff help me out when I can't decide on what I'm looking for. I love the Vegan Gel manicures they provide there, I used to get acrylic, which turned out just as nice. I am very faithful to this place even though I can be inconsistent about coming in every 2 weeks more like every month or so. I've been to one other place which was nice but I just always liked this one. The setting, staff and their work is greatly appreciated. read more

Amazing! I had acrylics on prior to going and they took them off so carefully! My natural nail has never looked healthier after getting acrylics off!! I just got a gel manicure on my natural nail & they've never looked better. Highly recommend! Also the salon is very clean & calm vibes. read more

I was here in Boston and experienced a mani emergency (so dramatic)! I had to get my nails done before I got back home to Atlanta, so I looked up salons near my office and found South Street Nails. It was fantastic!!! Very pleased with the manicure and pedicure -- would highly recommend it! Had a great hot stone massage with the pedicure which was a nice surprise. 5 stars! read more

Nice clean and super efficient salon. My dip looked great when I left but a few days later, all my nails are peeling and look terrible. I get dip every 2 weeks and have never had this issue before. Other reviews mention the same issue...not sure if the products they are using are bad. Would definitely go back if they solved this issue. read more

Ive held off from writing a review because I really wanted to like this salon. However, after 3 separate visits I've decided to give my honest review Each time the gel manicure is terrible. About an hour later, I received an email informing me that I had been charged a $57 no-show fee. The most frustrating part is that it was clearly an honest mistake. Who intentionally books an appointment 10 minutes before it starts and then doesn't show up? The timing alone should have made it obvious that this was an accidental booking error. As soon as I realized what happened, I called and explained the situation. I wasn't demanding a refund. I simply asked if the $57 could be applied toward another appointment that I was willing to book immediately. Considering I had been a loyal customer for more than six years and spent hundreds, if not thousands, of dollars there over that time, I thought this was a reasonable request. Instead, the answer was no. I was told they had called and texted me, at the start of the appointment, but I never received any calls or text messages. I followed up by emailing both the salon manager and corporate office, hoping someone would take a second look at the situation and use a little common sense. I have not heard back and at this point decided to just put this behind me. What disappointed me most wasn't the $57 itself. It was the complete lack of understanding, flexibility, and appreciation for a long-time customer. Businesses make exceptions for loyal customers all the time, especially when a mistake is clearly unintentional. This salon chose not to. To add, I have never not showed for an appointment on all the years I have gone to them. And unfortunately, this isn't an isolated concern. I later learned that the company has also faced public complaints and legal action regarding failure to properly pay employees for sick time and other labor-related issues. That, to me, only reinforces the same pattern: a business that appears to prioritize strict policies and profit over both customers and employees. This experience confirmed what I've felt for a while: customer service is not a priority here. Policies seem to matter more than people, and there is little interest in building long-term relationships or treating either clients or staff with fairness and flexibility. After more than six years, I will be taking my business elsewhere. There are plenty of salons that value their customers enough to show a little grace when an honest mistake happens--and also treat their employees with basic respect. Unfortunately, this is not one of them. I want to emphasize I have never not shown up for an appointment all the years I have been a customer. In my conversations with local friends, I think many seaport residents fall into the same pattern of going back to this location due to proximity and convenience. To make matters worse, after seeing the damage, they still suggested I come back in for a highlight... as if further bleaching on already stripped hair wouldn't cause serious harm. Anyone with basic color knowledge knows that would completely DESTROY the hair. I didn't have time to cancel the appointment, and I was STILL CHARGED for the service that left my hair DAMAGED. I left with broken strands, lost years of carefully maintained color, and a completely compromised hair texture. Some of the stylists here clearly lack the experience needed for proper color treatment. PLEASE do yourself a favor and stay far away. This was disappointing, frustrating, and deeply upsetting.

I went to this establishment about a week and a half ago to get a dip powder manicure on my natural…read morenails. I first thought it was odd that my nails were not being put under the UV light in between each layer of dip. After the woman finished with the dip, she told me to sit under the dryers for a regular manicure with the smaller UV (I think) light. After I left, my nails looked pretty good until I noticed small imperfections such as the color not covering my entire nail. It's now a little over a week since I got my nails done and about half of my nails have chipped and on some of my nails, it looks like a layer of the dip has come off. I have never ever had this experience with a dip powder manicure, and I will not be going back to this salon, nor would I recommend it to anyone. Additionally, when I was in the salon, another woman came into the salon stating she got her nails done the day prior and they already chipped. Considering this salon is in the North End and right by TD Garden, I would have thought the quality would be immaculate, but I have been proven wrong. If you want a good dip powder manicure, I would NOT go here.

She recently introduced me to her new "Jelly Nails", we also added cat eye and I'm OBSESSED. The finish and dimension are so gorgeous this red set might be one of my favorites she's ever done. But beyond being amazing at what she does, Tam is just the kindest, sweetest person. I genuinely look forward to my appointments and sitting in her chair and catching up.
