Felt a little letdown by all the 5 stars on Yelp...and maybe catfished. There is no salad bar. Waitstaff is friendly, but I wouldn't describe the restaurant as clean & inviting. It's a diner with diner food. We didn't try the Chinese food bc...we'll, I walked into a diner (nothing against diners...love Diners, Drive-Ins, & Dives.) This was not a drive-in. My husband ordered the chicken fried steak and it was pretty good. Steak was thick, and the coating was thin & crispy. Enjoyed the gravy, hashbrows, & eggs. My fried fish & prawns were alright. The third star is for the chowder. It was rich with flavor & clams.

My husband and I stopped around 1:00 pm to celebrate me getting my drivers license! Of course the waitress was excellent and the food was wonderful and the restaurant nice and clean! We love coming here

Okay, so I was apprehensive to order from this place again due to a previous experience. But this Chinese food hits! My only criticism is that it should come with soy sauce. Other than that, I thoroughly enjoyed this meal.

Chicken with mixed vegetables. I requested no noodles, but it comes with those too.

We met the owner who baked everything by hand in the back of the shop. We could see her prepping more pastries. She was so sweet, just a lovely person. You can't help but want to support her business. And then the pastries themselves were just so good, I would gain so much weight if I lived up there year around because I would eat there everyday! My dad and I shared the Ham and smoked Gouda calzone and oh my goodness was it good! Flakey crust, perfect fillings. It was delectable. I had the chocolate and banana turnover and absolutely loved it. Again, great pastry crust? And the proportions of banana to chocolate were perfect! I also loved my apricot and cheese danish. The flavors really complemented each other, and again - perfect crust! My dad tried the berry and cheese danish and the chocolate croissant and he loved them both! I don't think you could go wrong with any of the pastries here. We took our order to go and ate them the next morning and they were still delicious. It's an inviting shop, with limited seating inside along with plenty of seating outside, so it would be a great place to have a bite to eat as well!

At that point, hunger was making major life decisions for us, and this place definitely hit the spot. We ordered the Cobb salad, a cheeseburger, and a milkshake. Everything tasted good. Nothing dramatically life-changing or worthy of a dramatic food documentary narration, but solid, satisfying comfort food when you really need it. The milkshake was actually very good, and honestly part of the charm was watching the staff figure out the wonderfully ancient milkshake machine. It felt a little like witnessing a friendly negotiation between modern humans and a relic from a 1957 diner. Somehow, though, the machine delivered. It also seemed like there may have been new owners or at least people still settling into things. Communication was occasionally a little challenging, but everyone was trying, and the whole interaction ended up feeling more charming and humorous than frustrating. Overall, this is a simple roadside café that serves comforting food, good milkshakes, and a little small-town personality along the way. Sometimes, after hours on mountain roads, that is exactly what you need.

There was an older gentleman with glasses that wouldn't even seat my party of 6 because he was "waiting for bigger parties to arrive." There were maybe 2 other families seated and the rest of the place was empty with no reservations. He was just overall very short-tempered, rude, and shouldn't be hosting at all. When my family went here earlier this week without me, the same guy berated a kid in front of them for asking to take their glasses (he asked politely and still got yelled at in front of my family). My dad tried to stand up for the kid but the guy claimed that "he needs to learn his lesson." The guy also denied my little brother a chocolate milkshake because they were understaffed (again, there were only 3 parties seated out of the entire restaurant). They used to get lines out the door but now the place is so empty (for good reason). Please don't eat here and instead, support other restaurants that actually deserve service :(

She always made sure our coffee was filled and consistently checked on us. I had the chicken pesto sandwich and fries. It looked amazing! Fries were tasty, crispy and hot. The inly item I saw was huevos rancheros. Lastly, it's labeled here as the Mountain View cafe but on the building it has a large sign that says the Log Cabin... so don't let that confuse you! I really like the interior and the wood like, cozy small town feel! I grew up in a town like Portola and it definitely took me back. I might come back to try another dish as I do like supporting small businesses!

They hold events & allowed the birthday girl to put up some things to celebrate her birthday. We were allowed to order any drink such as specialty coffees, iced teas, sparkling, sodas, etc. And they also set out some water, iced tea, and a mango guava punch which were unlimited. each guest got to have two fusion tacos and a side of potato salad. Their fusion tacos were served on Naan and had really good ingredients. The two tacos that we were served one was Greek and one was Barbecue. They were very well balanced, and you can tell that there was a lot of care put into them. What I loved most about the tacos is the filling was different than what you would normally see for a taco. So for example, the barbecue had an apple slaw with pulled pork and the Greek taco had this mixture of zucchini and chickpeas with chicken. The potato salad had sun-dried tomatoes in it, and it was definitely different than I've ever had for a potato salad and it was delicious. For dessert, we were serve some cookies and a brownie. They were also very good. When I got a chance to sit down with my friend and talk to her about the food. She mentioned that they do pop up dinner sometimes, that the breakfast & lunch sandwiches are really good and that they make a lot of item "house made" for their drinks and their food . We also enjoy their butterscotch coffee and the Almond Joy and I'm told they make the butterscotch themselves. The staff/owners were great and were really trying to be so accommodating to our group. So if you're looking for a delicious breakfast or a relaxing lunch or looking for a place to have an event, I would check them out. They definitely inspired me to visit again.

On my second visit it was actually less busy and the same older lady was behind the counter taking orders and covering the register. I was trying to decide on my next meal and was asking a lot of questions. She responded dismissively by saying, she "didn't have time for my questions." When I mentioned that she had answered all my questions the week prior, nothing changed so I pointed out that it was much busier the week prior compared to me being there for the second time, she maintained her viewpoint. I understand she was filling in while her daughter was on maternity leave at that time but that's still not an excuse to treat customers poorly, especially around dietary needs. Because of that interaction, I won't be returning. No second chance from me. If you have dietary restrictions, I'd think twice.
