Even when I'm not visiting someone in the hospital, I sometimes go out of my way to stop in for lunch or dinner because it's that good. The prices are very reasonable, especially considering the quality of the meals you get. If you go during lunch or dinner hours, they have a chefs menu of entrees to choose. If you go outside of these hours, they will make you a fresh grilled cheese or burger, and other items on the menu. There is also plenty of ready items to grab and go, like sandwiches and snacks. Being at a hospital can be stressful, especially when you're caring for a loved one, but the Allspice Café provides a little comfort and normalcy with every plate. I had the same cashier both times and he was so sweet, all smiles and was so welcoming! The tables were limited but it was like a well oiled machine; as soon as people were done at the table, they got up to make way for others to sit. I really like that the area was well lit with big windows to let natural light in. My husband and I were reminded of being at a hotel. I grew up eating hospital food since my mom was a nurse for 24 years so I never look down on cafeteria food. The quality isn't what you'll find at a 5 star or a Michelin star restaurant, but if you're at the hospital and hungry whether you're a guest or an employee it's worth it!
