This place was a few doors down from my motel, so I decided to stop in. Overall, very hit and miss. The menu is mostly Chinese, with a few. Thai and Vietnamese dishes. I almost went for the. Banh mi, and in retrospect, I probably should have. Instead, I went for the combo menu, with. Broccoli chicken.... Let's break it down.... The Pros:... The hot tea... I'm not sure what kind of tea it was, but for a cold evening, it was hot, and it was very good. The egg drop soup... it was hot, and it had a very good flavor. I love a good egg drop soup, and this was a good one. The main dish... The broccoli chicken was very good. The chicken was tender, and the veggies were crisp. It was sauced well, and it was not over sauced. Now, the cons..... The egg roll. Just your generic Chinese food eggroll, it tasted OK, but it was very greasy. It left my fingers glistening.... The chow mein. It was warm at best, and it was also very oily. It left a film of oil on my lips. The noodles were kind of gummy. The pork fried rice... It was just OK. The texture of the rice was OK, but there wasn't much flavor to it. I added a bit of hoisin to it, and it made it a bit better. Basically, I was batting .500 on this meal. The price was OK, but not really for what I got. I might come back to try. The Banh mi, or maybe try something off the menu that is not part of the combo meal. Absolute junk, ordered the shrimp summer rolls and recieved one piece of shrimp in each it was 99.9% lettuce. And the pork egg rolls were also nothing but veggies. I could not taste or find one piece of pork. Also ordered the beef and broccoli and recieved broccoli with a hint of beef. And the pork fried dumplings... you guessed it. All veggies. And the 1/4 cup of soup was a slap in the face. Maybe because I am traveling through in my RV they thought they can pawn off crap on me as they may not see me again. Or everyone is recieving the same crap. As a 5 star chef for over 30+ years i would personally fire everyone including the owner. Also keep in mind. I put this same review on door dash where I ordered this "hot mess" from and all my reviews have disappeared. I assume because door dash is desperate to keep people's business. And its probably harder to do in small towns. So they just delete my reviews in order to keep customers buying from them. Don't waste your money on these glorified salads. Also do not trust door dash reviews as they clearly edit them. . To the owner of this establishment, if you cannot afford to stay open, pmease shut it down rather than take advantage of you customers in this way. 1st and last time customer. And hopefully folks read this and don't waste thier money on deep fried veggies and no protein whatsoever. Shameless. The only reason I gave it a 2 star vs. A 1 is it had potential. This time I thought I'd try something different since last time I was a bit disappointed... well this time I was disappointed also.. I ordered the asparagus shrimp, which also had broccoli, mushrooms, carrots, snow peas, and water chestnuts.... Why not call it shrimp with veggies.? The flavor was alright but nothing exciting. It came with white rice and soup. You would think with a dinner special it would have fried rice or chowmein... but nope. Hubby had the walnut shrimp dinner and it also came with white rice. We both had drinks, and ordered some pot stickers for starters... with the 3% additional charge for a credit card our total was over 62.00. This place has good egg drop soup, honey walnut prawns which is nostalgic for me and a hot and sour soup that isn't to bad. The best ive had was from a mentor of mine Sam Okomoto. It's a great place to dine very comfortable for dining especially good menu selection for a small town. read more

Don't bother. They don't listen when they take the order. The food is nasty. The fish and chips are a little pieces of fish, not the pieces that you would expect to have. They're dried out. The fries are frozen fries not even cooked properly. They're soggy and pale. Their fried rice has a brown ugly look to it. And what they call a salad is soggy lettuce. Wife and I went there with another couple. We had a small mishap and the waiter spilled my ice tea picking up the menues. The food was just OK. I had pork chow mean wif had chicken chow mean. The meat was over cooked and tuff. The flavor was good but not great. The one thing that really irks me is they posted I little hand written card on the wall of our booth stating that all debit & credit payments will have a 3% surcharge added. Who in this day pays cash for anything and credit customers tend to spend more IMHO. My response to any business is to either reduce my tip to no more than 10% or if possible not go there in the future .I know this hurts the waiters and nt the bussiness owners but its the only way to make a statement that I disagree with there surcharges. It was such a pleasant experience, we got pho, vermicelli and the roasted duck. everything we ordered came out fast, hot, and delicious! This location has been closed for a couple of years and has recently reopened under the same name with new management. We come to visit family from Reno and always used to look forward to eating here and was disappointed when it closed. When we saw it was open again we had to try it. The food was good. This is by far the best and most consistent restaurant in susanville. The food is always super good and the portions are pretty generous. You can tell the owners take a lot of pride in what they serve. The place is always pretty quiet so it's a good place to sit down and decompress and enjoy some peace. The lady waitress was very sweet but the food and old man were horrible. The paper wrapped chicken tasted spoiled.

We were seated and our drink order was taken. No drinks. Next server comes by, we indicate the first server was getting them but she went and got us water anyway. This server was very pleasant and we chatted for a bit. The third server appears and takes our order. He brings the wrong appetizer (pork buns) rather than BBQ pork. Our food starts coming out. At the same time as the entrees, a plate of sliced BBQ pork smothered in BBQ sauce appears. We ask of that is what we ordered and are told that there are new owners and they changed it. He does not know why. We ask for hot mustard which he brings. Beer that hubby ordered with server #1 shows up WARM. I will give them the benefit of the doubt that he pulled one recently stocked, but when leaving, none of the drinks appeared cold in their case. No sweat on the bottle at all, it was room temperature. Rice was clumped together like it was wet sitting in a rice cooker. Seriously cannot believe this place is in business. This food is like "I'm trying to make Chinese food at home and it doesn't turn out". We did not finish half of our food. They did not charge us for the BBQ pork or the beer. It is really bad, I'm not sure how there are this number of positive reviews unless they are because of the prior owners or maybe these are all locals with no other choice in Chinese food and don't know what they're getting. read more

Lunch at Happy garden was disappointing. The soup was tepid, our server heated all 5 bowls in the microwave 1 at a time, then the plates of food came and they were only warm, repeat the warming excercise.
