The house garlic noodles are top tier not overly greasy and just the right amount of garlic. The ube waffles had just the right amount of crisp on the outside, but not too hard. The banh mi was so fresh tasting, the bread was perfect with the crisp vegetables and the vegan pork belly was so good it had a slight sweetness with the crisp texture and savory flavor. Absolutely incredible. Been wanting to come here for a couple of months. Finally decided to today and WHAT A TREAT!!! For drinks we ordered the iced coffee and the cinnamon cheese foam. Both fantastic. Iced coffee is very much like a great mocha. The cheese foam was our favorite. Tasted like a tiramisu! For food we got the mushroom baos, bok Choi, pork wontons, vegan pho, and Vietnamese sizzling beef. Yes, way too much food for 2 people but we like trying extra first time visiting a place. Mushroom baos were amazing, come with a great sauce, pork wontons was my favorite appetizer and came with bok Choi which was also good. Vegan pho was solid but think the other dishes shined brighter. This might be my favorite restaurant in Portland, and that says a lot! I dream of their garlic noodles and fried lion's mane mushrooms and the shrimp is pretty darned good too! I had a late lunch at the bar on a typical Portland rainy day. Serves was quick and short. My drink and food came out super fast! The place felt super clean and only had about three groups sitting at all ends of the restaurant, which was nice since I did read in a review that it's kind of loud. Makes sense since the ceilings are massive! I really think this place has such good bones to become such a good go to spot for so many people in the Kenton/ north Portland area! My food was good, I felt like the portion size was more than enough and very flavorful! Stopped by An An to try their Vietnamese coffee only to find ourselves staying for brunch so we can try their food since we were thoroughly impressed with their coffee. We had the Ube waffles with chicken katsu, and it was an absolute delight. The portion was generous, and the flavor was spot on. You could really smell the ube in the waffle, which added a unique and delicious touch. The owner, Linh, was incredibly nice and hospitable. She made a sweet chili syrup with Gochujang to pair with the chicken katsu, and it was the perfect complement. Linh also recommended their Bo Luc Lac (Vietnamese Shaky Beef), which we will definitely be back again to try. A neat place to check out for a meal. We came here for brunch and tried out a few items. Both the pandan coffee and ube coffee were decent and colorful. The garlic fries and pork belly bites were ok. The pork belly bites that we had were majority just fat. We also ordered the House Garlic Noodles with chicken katsu and the Turkey Meatball & egg dish. Good lord that ube coffee though. The coffee was 10000% a 10/10 for me and I am currently dreaming about it and want to go back l o l I had been talking to any and all friends about An An since it opened and was finally able to go in with my family. The interior was way larger than I'd anticipated and honestly, super cute and bright. We ended up getting a few things to share and over-ordered, aka the usual. We had the garlic fries, the fried oyster mushrooms, pork belly for the omnivores. For our mains, my family had the vietnamese sizzling beef, the caramelized pork & eggs, and the garlic noodles with chicken katsu. I had the garlic noodz but with vegan pork belly made with bean curds! Woohoo~ They can make the garlic noodles vegan by modifying the cheese option. I loveeee fries but these fell JUST short of being perfection, maybe needed a bit more salt or a little more crisp? The fried oyster mushrooms were delicious though a tad oily, I appreciated the pickled veggies they served with it to cut the grease. Everyone enjoyed their main dishes and my husband was definitely a fan of the pork belly bites. He had the vietnamese sizzling beef and demolished it within seconds; it's served with baguettes and I can tell you they did not skimp at all. For my own food, I loved the garlic noodles and the vegan pork belly was A+. My only qualm overall was that all the food fell into a heavier/more oil and fried category than I preferred. I stole some baguette to balance the oil in my own dish. A lot of the veggie options have the fried oyster mushroom so I do think it gets to be a lot by the end. And as I mentioned above, the ube coffee was next level amazing and I will absolutely be going back to have more coffee and goods. Service was super friendly and attentive! The pork belly were giant and cut into aesthetically pleasing pieces, but they were so dry. The shaking beef dish was delicious and I finished that quickly. Overall, there were some parts that stood out here, but some dishes weren't so great. Parking was difficult and limited to one hour. The bathroom did not have paper towels, but instead a blow dryer. Our party of five was asked to sit outside where a man had set shelter and was sleeping; when we requested to sit inside, the hostess looked annoyed but agreed. Water jars without lids and cups facing up were already on tables, which felt unsanitary .
