We had been hoping to get to Donovan's for a long time and we finally made it for NYE dinner. Our table was prepared before we arrived (reservations really needed for today so glad we had them). The restaurant is adorned with tap handles which is neat and tastefully done. There were five in our group and we ordered a couple appetizers to start - pork belly and bruschetta. Both were very good, with comments like "that's the best bruschetta I've ever had" and "wow the Brussels sprouts on the pork belly were really good" Choice of salad was garden or Caesar, I opted for Caesar and it had the right amount of dressing. The highlight of the night was the Delmonico - it came with mushrooms and mixed vegetables and mashed on the side, but you could hardly see the mushrooms because the steak was a very generous 12 oz. cut. All in all a spectacular evening at a very nice restaurant with friends to close out 2022. We look forward to returning to Donovan's real soon. read more

Donovan's is a local gem! My parents love it here and when I was in town visiting, they were very excited to take me here. We had reservations and were seated very quickly. We were given a choice to sit inside or out on the patio. Since it was a nice night we opted for the patio. Our server came over and greeted us and he was very friendly and made great conversation. After perusing the menu, we placed drink orders and food orders. They have a really large beer and wine menu with different drinks from all over. Before dinner, we were given a bread basket with delicious maple butter. Our entrees all came with a salad as well. I would definitely recommend getting the house made garlic balsamic dressing on your garden salad. Not long after that, our entrees came out and they were delicious! I ordered the filet mignon and it was cooked perfectly, served with a side of mashed potatoes, green beans, and onion straws. Great food, great service, great prices! This is an outstanding local restaurant hidden in a small town upstate New York. From the friendly greeting to the great service to the excellent food, all exceeded my expectations. Highly recommend if you are ever in the area. The ingredients used in the Ceasers salad, calamari appetizer and steak dinner were fresh and of very high quality - 2 key requirements in my opinion needed to deliver an excellent food experience. Being from out of town I was worried that the great review might be due to the limited selection in the area, but this was one of the best dinners my wife and I have had anywhere. We both enjoyed the salads and app. The Ceasar was very creamy, and the mable bacon dressing was good. My wife's filet special was the best filet either of us have ever had. And I'm really not big on filets. I got the hanger steak entrée, and the steak was really good. There was a bit too much blue cheese in the sauce which was the only negative of the whole meal. I was kind of considering a 4 star review because of the sauce, but the blueberry cheese cake was out of this world. There were big fresh blue berry's mixed in and a gramcracker crust that balanced out the richness of the cheese. Definately will be back when we are up here again. read more

This is my 3rd visit for dine in during this pandemic. Why? Because they do it right plain and simple. The menus are on the table tops placed under the glass for a "touch less" experience. All staff are wearing masks and gloves and the food is spot on and of great quality. We were seated promptly on each occasion with plenty of space between other tables. All 3 times we had a different server each one was professional, courteous, and attentive. The Caesar salad was fresh, crisp, and had a dressing that I really enjoyed. I did not post the Prime Rib picture because I ordered it Blue which can be a turn off to some. The rib was perfect and served with a flavorful redskin mashed potatoes and crisp green beans! First of all Abby the waitress was fantastic. The only server on Sunday afternoon and she was hopping. We had a large party of 10 and they had no problem seating us. The cease salad was one of the best I've ever had. Fresh crispy lettuce and a very good creamy dressing A+. I was surprised to find Osso Buco on the menu and was not disappointed. The pork was tender and juice. I didn't even need a knife, I pulled the bones out easily and could cut it with my fork. Served on top of fluffy mashed potatoes and covered with crispy, crunchy haystack onions. I paired my meal with the Irish amber ale which was malty and smooth. I would ha e taken a growler home but they were out of them maybe next time. I've been coming up to this part of state my whole life. I remember when the building was an A&W restaurant in the 1970's. Donovan's steakhouse has to be the best restaurant I've been to in Malone. A must go read more

We are locals and love Donovan's! We could travel to other restaurants in Canada, Plattsburgh, Massena, Potsdam etc.- but this is our go to spot. The atmosphere is fantastic, staff is friendly and the food is consistently fantastic all the time. The regular menu is always a good choice - but if you are in the mood for something different the Donovan's specials are always cooked to perfection. Had house Chardonnay with my meal (forgot to ask where it was from) Light, crisp, and not overly sweet. Very good quality for house wines. Appetizers: Ordered Beer Steamed Little Neck Clams. Shipped in from Virginia. Fresh, large and cleaned to perfection with no grit. Very reasonable portion. The beer and butter broth was seasoned wonderfully and the clams were some of the best I've had in ages. So fresh!! I chose Caeser salad with my meal. Dressing was homemade and perfect amount was given. Lettuce was fresh, crisp and served on cool plate. Dinner: Ordered Crisp Pork Belly and Shrimp. Presentation was fabulous and they were true to their word. Pork belly was crisp with just the right amount of rendering. Seasoned in a light Thai glaze, the sweet and savory balance hit the bulls-eye. Shrimp was seasoned and cooked perfectly. Plump, juicy, fresh. I felt like I was in Key-West and had just received the fresh batch of the day. But I was in Malone, NY which makes this even more impressive. Dessert: Ordered Lemon Cake with Mascarpone and Blueberry filling. Moist and surprisingly light, I would hold this dessert up with any cake war on TV. The perfect ending to a perfectly balanced and delicious experience. I hope this place is open for years and years to come. read more

I feel it is imperative to follow up on this and let everyone know that the owner contacted our party and was very apologetic and refunded our entire check. That shows incredible integrity which, knowing the owner, doesn't surprise me. This was a very unusual situation as we have eaten there before and have been more than satisfied every time.
