I asked for extra firm pressure before and during the massage, but we never really quite got there. No problem, though, because I was super relaxed and almost fell asleep. I packed charcuterie supplies and sparkling wine. I maybe overpacked on the utensils, because they really did have everything else there. This is a super romantic spot and feels very fancy for a special event.

The GPS said we would arrive at 11:30 a.m. Unfortunately, our car, which we have never had problems with before, had just died on the highway. We were 30 minutes away, and it was an hour prior to 12 when the incident occurred, so I called them and let them know what was going on. I had hoped that they would be understanding and waive the cancellation fee, which is 50% of the total price. Thinking they would be understanding and flexible enough to even rebook me another day so we could still experience this and 100% pay them, because why would we not? That's not at all what happened. Management said that the masseuses still had to get paid somehow, and even after experiencing this emergency with our car, we still had to pay the 50% cancellation fee. We will absolutely not be returning, due to this company's lack of understanding and flexibility with its customers.

The "lap pool" was 84 degrees which is way too warm for actual lap swimming. The locker situation was also frustrating. Day pass guests can only use lockers on the pool deck, not in the locker room, which defeats the purpose if you come prepared with clothes to change into after showering -- there's nowhere secure or convenient to store your belongings inside the locker room itself. On top of that, the locker room wasn't very clean and robes weren't provided. The pool area is open to all hotel guests, including kids, so it never felt calm or spa-like. Between the crowd, temperature of the pool, and limited amenities, it didn't match the spa experience that was advertised. I frequent hotel spas, and this was one of the most disappointing given the price. It would feel more appropriate at about half the cost, especially since parking isn't validated for day pass guests.

I got lost trying to find the parking lot because there is a Hyatt across the street as well, I called and she followed on the map and told me exactly where to turn and how to get into the parking lot and the $13 valet parking was great in the building!! the only suggestion I have is to maybe use terry cloth robes instead of the heavy Sherpa lined older robes. The slipper sandals were so nice!! Wish I had a pair! Loved it!!

A prepaid gift should be fully honored when they sell it as a package on their website. Forcing a customer to pay extra for a prepaid package is a terrible business practice. The massage and facial were just okay. Not exceptional experiences.There were communication issue with the girl who performed my massage. The girl that did my massage asked if I would like them to work on my sculp that day. I was confused if she meant during the massage it facial so I asked. She said "Oh! You have a facial appointment too? Then I'll let her do that during the facial." However, the girl who performed facial did not perform massage on my sculp. I'm not very pleased with the experience and would not go back or recommend to anyone.

The multiple spa spaces (steam room, clay sauna, Finnish sauna, and more) make it perfect for a large-ish gathering to have elbow room (we had 20 people) while the layout also makes it intimate enough that we felt connected. Nothing like all your friends cheering from the hot tub while you cold plunge! While the spa is always "social" so no need to whisper, I highly recommend the luxury and fun of a private booking. Aside from respectfully keeping our voices low in the locker room near treatment rooms being used by other guests, we were able to laugh and toast to our hearts' content. On that note, the staff was so accommodating with a table for the snacks we brought, a tub with ice for our drinks, and generally all the coordination that it took to pull this off. They made it as easy as possible. And on the day-of, Denise was a particularly gracious host -- welcoming us and even patiently/considerately snapping a group photo from multiple angles (at our request, to be clear - haha). I'll be back many more times -- whether solo or with friends. So grateful for this urban retreat in a very convenient location for Seattle-area city'zens.

The night before my appointment I fell horribly sick and spent the night in the ER; at this time the appointment was the least of my concerns. Instead of showing a little bit of human compassion and leniency, Ananya waited until after I had forgotten about the appointment and charged me the full amount. In spite of my pleas, they insisted they were doing the right thing (by themselves) and did not budge at all. It is understandable that their employees should be compensated for their time but they could have at least offered concessions from the fees that Ananya itself takes. No, instead I received a shallow guise of friendliness, under which there existed zero understanding, and insistence that their policy was fair in this case because it was in the fine print (as a corporation they of course held all of the cards but somehow I thought that a business whose sole purpose was to provide comfort to the community might understand). All of this was in spite of offering to show written proof that I was unable to attend. Sidebar; they claim their system is transparent and fair, but we received ZERO reminders for this appointment. When pressed about this they conveniently stated that we ourselves opted out of reminders... but who would do that? If so, their system is intentionally opaque and misleading, all of which they will not own up to. Beware of these people, they will take your money, offer you zero concessions in the name of customer support. Their staff will give you nothing but generically textbook replies with hollow kindness but offer not to lift even a finger for your cause; I'd rather speak to an AI at that point. They are either remorselessly corporate, or unapologetically incompetent. read more

I don't recommend going to Ananda Spa for a massage, especially with a gift card. I bought my boyfriend a $70 Ananda Spa gift card for his birthday, expecting he would get one massage for free and have some money left over on the card for a second massage because the Ananda Spa website states $50 as the price for all their 30-min. massages. He went for a 30-min. massage on 9/4/08; however, after his massage, they absorbed all the money on the gift card. They explained away the extra charge as "tip." We figured out on the ride home that for a $50 purchase and $3.25 tax, that's $16.75 taken as tip! Whoever heard of a mandatory 33% gratuity? When we called later, they apologized and offered to return $10 out of the "tip"--still withholding a tip they had decided on rather than asking what he would have liked to tip them. Too frustrated and put off to go back, we surrendered the full $70 for a $50-massage. The whole idea of a tip is to express the degree of your satisfaction and gratitude for the service provided. That just goes out the window when a business assigns itself whatever tip it judges to be fair. I feel that we were taken advantage of, the prices posted on the website are misleading, and the gift intended to help my boyfriend unwind turned into a frustrating experience. Be aware that the charges may be higher than stated on the website, whether it's the mandatory "gratuity" or a staff slip-up. I gave this business two stars because although, to all accounts, the service was good, slipping in the extra charge is a shady practice when their prices are already so high. read more

I decided to get a yelp account just so I can let others no how bad my experience was here. First I got there 10 minutes early and noone greeted me or signed me in for my appointment. I had to wave down a girl who was busy chatting to get her to notice me and let her know I was there for an appointment. She seemed angry that I interrupted her conversation, but she proceeded to check me in. At that point she informed me that my technichian for my massage was running late and to take a seat. So I assumed late was like 5-10 minutes. NO! The technician got there 30 minutes late and did not even apologize for making me wait. Talk about rude service. I really wanted to relax and have a good massage so I decided to go ahead and continue with the service. I was wrong again about the relaxing part. I don't know about other people, but to me a massage means silence and relaxing. The technichian talked the entire time and complained about her boyfriend and personal problems. I tried to be nice and let her know I was here to relax, but she didn't seem to get the point. I was very unhappy with the service. Little to be said I did not leave her a tip and she seemed pretty annoyed. I let her know I was not tipping because she was very late and I was not relaxed due to her talking, and she got offended and blamed personal problems. I think if you are providing a service you should leave your personal problems at home and that this was not a good excuse. I will never return to this spa. This place is fantastic. I have fast become a regular of Julianne. First the space. I went with high expectations of the space from the website. I am pretty fussy and thought this was one of the most tasteful places I have been. Understand it is a contemporary urban environment which is part of the allure. Come in off the hustling streetscape down the newly updated former industrial space and open the door entering a beautiful and serene Zen space. The contrast instantly puts you at rest and draws you in. Very soft candlelit space welcomes you back to your room to the sounds of tasteful new age music. The friendly warm staff is right there to greet you. And like another reviewer the minute Julianne extended her hand and beamed a big smile, I knew I found someone who really wanted to serve. The first impression is her great personality. She has the gift of being instantly at ease and putting you instantly at ease on the first meeting. But the real treat is the massage. I am an "older" male with a lot of old injuries and stress points. In each massage Julianne has systematically worked her way through them, remembers what to return to and fulfills her mission of treating your aches and pains while providing relaxation. She has loosened up a chronic age old hip problem that has defeated other therapists. She will make the time fly with engaging conversation or if you let her know your preference let you drift off to the music and candlelight. No wonder this has been voted Seattle's best. The first time I went to Ananya Spa was with a gift certificate from Spa Finder for my birthday. I went to get my makeup professionally done for my birthday party, and they did an amazing job copying a picture I brought in from a magazine almost identically. I looked stunning on my birthday thanks to Ananya Spa. I had such a great first experience at Ananya Spa that I decided to go back for waxing - something I don't feel particularly comfortable getting done and had bad previous experiences with, but I figured I'd try again since they did such an amazing job with my makeup. I'm not going to tell you it didn't hurt, because having hair ripped out of your body just doesn't feel good, plain and simple. However, ever since I started receiving wax services from Gretchen, I can't imagine seeing anyone else. Every time I go in (which is about once every 5 weeks) she and I pick up right where we left off, discussing everything from tattoos to baby names to milk alternatives and more. She makes me feel so comfortable during the wax that I hardly even notice that someone is ripping my hair out of its follicle. Unfortunately (for me) she is on maternity leave right now and I haven't waxed since she left. A relationship between a girl and her waxer runs deep. I just don't want to see anyone else. By the way, Gretchen assured me that with each wax it becomes less painful, and it's true. read more

I have been a devotee to Ananya Spa (previously known as Ananda Spa) for spa and waxing services for over a year now. If I go without my facial and waxing services from the owner, Julianne, I swear I start to have withdrawls!! ......my eyebrows look unruly....My skin dull.....ugh The truth of the matter is that I have always had horrble acne most of my life but when I started seeing Julianne for facials every two weeks I now barely even get a hormonal bump! Julianne's brazilian wax can't be beat either. The girl will NOT miss a hair. The wax and Pevonia products they use at Ananya Spa are top of the line and non-irritating and the ambiance has a hip warehouse feel but the warm colors and sexy curtains make me melt the moment I walk through the doors. Not only are the service providers great at waxing, shaping brows and facials; they're massages are best of the best as well! Oh! And if you go in for your brows...DEFINITELY get a brown tint! My therapist did a great job. It was a good experience, nice place, nice people. For the experience, the price was really high. I am not familiar too much with getting deep tissue massages, but for the experience we got it was expensive. I paid $222 for a couples deep tissue massage and that would make it around $111 per person. I don't believe this massage was worth that, I would have thought maybe some complimentary aromatherapy or a little something something you know? We also got a back exfoliation which was not worth the money as well, it was just a simple and quick scrub that took away from your massage time. $50 for two back exfoliations was also expensive - we felt like it was so short and not worth it. I would have paid around $75 - $80 per massage and just skipped the back exfoliation. My therapist did a great job, it was just the pricing didn't match the experience. I had the best experience at Ananya Spa. I came in for an oxygen facial with Kat, and left with glowing, hydrated skin that felt so refreshed. Kat was incredibly knowledgeable about every product and treatment she used - she really took the time to understand my skin goals and totally delivered. I didn't feel the need to wear make up that day, my skin looked so good! The spa itself is beautiful - super cute with a clean, minimalist modern vibe. I loved the little touches, like the welcome tea and water in the cozy lounge area by the warm fireplace. It set such a relaxing tone for the whole visit. Well I've finally found a spa that I can't live without. I'm a picky customer so I've been to more than my fair share. Now I'm ready to settle down. I heard about Ananda through a friend. It's a unique space but a very tranquil environment right in Belltown on Western Ave and they have a big selection (facials, waxing, massage and of course mani/pedis). I went with the Luminous Sea and C facial with Chelsea. It was fantastic and my skin is still thanking me for it. Chelsea was wonderful, she immediately puts you at ease, she's professional and very talented, I'll be seeing her again soon. As an aesthetician I felt the service I received from Julianne exceeded my expectations. Her product knowledge and information she supplied during my treatment was impressive. I have had waxing treatments at Ananda in the past by a recently departed employee based on references and have to say I was disappointed in the bedside manner. I felt rushed and the condescending attitude was insensitive. I learned how not to treat my clients. Julianne heard my concerns and more than made up for my poor experience. I had the most wonderful experience at Ananya Spa. I came in for a hybrid massage focused on lymphatic drainage and Swedish relaxation, and it was exactly what I needed. Every detail, from the organic, zen ambiance to the super friendly, helpful, and attentive staff, made it feel like a true escape right in the heart of the city. Very luxurious robes and great ambiance, various selections of services and upgrades, pleasant lounge area, friendly reception, secure lockers, clean well-kept and warm rooms. The sugar scrub made my skin really soft, and the swedish massage was just delightful. My massage therapist Jay was very funny and great conversation, and was confident in making suggestions to improve my leg and arm pain. The other staff were also really friendly, Gerard helped me find the lounge when I got lost, and Patrick showed me around the locker room. I plan to come back soon! read more

I really enjoyed a recent facial I got here through a promotion. It wasn't extremely fancy, but it was cute enough. The facial itself was mostly pleasant. I liked the survey they give you about preferences during treatment. However, the neck massage I was given during the facial was super hard and had me sore afterwards. I am used to deep pressure but it was too much. I liked how they ask you if you would like recommendations for skin care products instead of forcing you to listen to them try sell you products. nice place. decent massage therapists. but went there today (arrived at 10:58am for an 11am service), paid for an 80 min massage and got 72 minutes. when I arrived, they put me in a waiting room and gave me tea. apparently waiting in a waiting room counts toward your massage time! careful: make sure you time them. i mentioned it to the front desk, they went to talk to the therapist. and indeed, they verified they cut me short. 8 minutes isn't nothing when you're paying $1.85 a minute. for the price, the service should be more reliable. read more

Ananda's employee's are great! I hadn't been to Ananda for a while and when I called to make an appointment, Shirin remembered exactly who I was and welcomed me back. She is great and very personable! I had my first waxing with Julianne and it was literally painless. I booked two treatments for me and a friend and prepaid in advance. I received multiple email confirmations for these treatments for the dry sauna and massage/facial leading up to the appointments with encouragement to arrive early and enjoy the amenities. My friend and I arrived early to see a sign at the checkout desk saying that the person at the desk had stepped away and to call a number to check in. Upon calling, I spoke to a nice person who said they would find someone to check us in. A person showed up a few minutes later claiming that they were not the front desk but were going to help us. They seemed annoyed that we had arrived early saying that our appointments were at a later time. I shared that we received multiple emails telling us to come 15 min early to the dry sauna first before our appt. The response was "Oh that's a back office thing." They led us into a waiting area to fill out our liability forms, gave us locker room keys, and left. We were unsure of where to go after we completed the forms, so we found the lockers thinking to get ready. Upon opening the lockers, there were no robes or slippers, so we went back out to the waiting room. When the person helping us showed up again, we told them that we didn't see any robes in the lockers and they said "Yeah the person responsible for restocking the robes didn't do it today so you can use a towel." I clarified that they meant for us to just walk out in a towel in this public space (near the hotel gym) and they said "Yes - some guests have done that." It felt like they were being dismissive and just didn't want to be bothered. They left us alone to wait in the waiting area. As we sat there, we noticed there was a little table meant for water and snacks but the snack bowls were empty, there was no water, and only hand sanitizer. At that point, we decided that the first impression the spa was making on us was a bit unacceptable and it felt like they were unprepared for any guests. Customer service was not present and we generally felt unwelcome and left to our own devices. We decided to call the spa phone line again to share feedback and cancel our services. I would not suggest booking treatments here. My friend and I booked this for a spa weekend getaway and were extremely disappointed as we both flew in from out of state for this. One "positive" is that the person we complained to was able to refund us and apologize but it was still a pretty big let down overall.
